TOO EXPENSIVE -- Take your business elsewhere Upsell, upsell, upsell! Come here if you want extra services you didn't ask for to be added to your bill. My wife took our two dogs here for what would have been a $100/ea checkup anywhere else, coupled with a follow-up care appointment for one of them. Instead, she walked out with a bill for nearly $1,000! $390 for "necessary blood work for senior dogs" we never asked for, $37 for nail clipping even though we groom at home, etc.... this place is just like a real (human) hospital in that they'll charge you $30 PER PILL administered during the visit. A complete and total racket. Unfortunately, my sweet wife is a bit of a pushover and has a hard time saying no when a medical figure hands her documents to sign. If you come here, I'm sure their "salesperson" will tug on your heartstrings too.She was also pressured into signing an authorization for a further $2,500 of dental care, but fortunately the first charge maxed out our credit card so that one charge declined. The same thing happened a year ago, where they wanted to charge us over $3,000 to remove our poor puppy's eyes (!!!), then when that didn't go through, they "conveniently" prescribed $50 eyedrops that have completely alleviated his suffering.(Eyedrops that cost under $10 at our previous vet; I called to check.) Of note: this establishment is tagged as "LGBTQ friendly", but like too many so-called allies, they don't seem to care enough to iron the horrendous creases out of their pride flag. It looks so bad, and I hope they show better care for their LGBTQ customers than that flag in the window... but given our other experiences here, and with other places that put up flags just for show, I sincerely doubt it.

We made an appointment at this veterinary hospital yesterday as the vet we see for our other cat wasn't available and we needed someone to assess our kitten urgently! The receptionist who answered our call was exceptional and after hearing what was going on with our kitten, she immediately talked with one of the vets, Dr. Witzel, who agreed to help us get a same day appointment on an already very busy day. When we arrived to the hospital we were greeted by one of the vet techs who told us we shouldn't have been given an appointment and that we would have to call back tomorrow morning, however the manager of the hospital overheard this conversation and stepped in saying that Dr. Witzel had told us to come in even though we were a new patient. Our kitten ended up with a devastating and life-threatening diagnosis and the whole time we were discussing our options, Dr. Witzel and both of the vet techs who helped get all of the care necessary done on our kitten, were so kind and patient. They did not rush us to make a decision or leave the exam room before we were ready, despite our visit putting them behind for other patients they needed to see that day. I'm so thankful for everyone who helped us and for the care that they provided to our kitten yesterday and will continue to provide in the future as we navigate her illness. I could not recommend this veterinary hospital enough.

Where do I start. My dog had a spider bite on her nose, they wanted to do a biopsy $650, which I paid. I had to leave county, and had an associate call to get results. They weren’t forthcoming about having the results which was super frustrating. They wanted dog on prednisone which they gave my associate. They gave him a hard time about an $18 prescription and left me messages about it. Mind you over the last two decades I have probably spent welll over 5k which I always paid at time of service. Today I went in to pay for the prescription and they wouldn’t let me pay because a note In their system from the clinical manager was requiring that I now have a card on file. The whole thing was embarrassing and such bad form, and advisor came out and said this is a policy now, which it isnt, I was just now considered a “non payer” they have you pay premium rates, probably the most expensive clinic in the state, and their customer service is not only lacking, but rude. The response to this review shows that they don’t understand my distaste for their business isn’t over the “pay at time of service Policy” it’s how unorganized, and rude the front office/managers are.

As always the girls had a good visit , maybe the girls were naughty, but the staff was great. It is not fair that I put a poor review on after so many years of outstanding service and care from Dr. Bybee, Dr.Walton and the staff members like Shane , Stacey, Shelby and Elaine who have gone out of their way to be kind and part of my family. I have read all the reviews over the past weekend, I have had some of the same issues, But those are one or two people and not the whole clinic, I have been here over ten years and the outstand care out ways the few bad things, that may have been just a lack of communication or misunderstanding . The clinic is not over priced let’s face it if we have fur babies they are expensive little creators. We don't blink an eye to spend $5.00 on coffee everyday that if we saved all month would pay for our fur babies care. I am just going to say in closing this review, The staff here is caring , understanding not only for the fur kids but the humans as well. It was a privilege to know the staff here and there is no better group of people to trust your little fur babies to.

Very nice facility, great staff, reasonable price and same day appointment. I brought my cat to University Vet Hospital because she was having problems breathing. Not really an emergency but needed to be addressed soon. I called my regular vet and pretty much every vet in the Salt Lake valley only to find everything booked for a couple weeks out. I tried the emergency clinics only to find 4 to 6 hr waiting times. One ER told me about University Vet Hospital so I called them. I called first thing in the morning and was given a appt for 11am same day! The staff was awesome from beginning to end. The receptionist, the tech and the doctor seemed to genuinely care and made the whole experience very comfortable for me and my cat. Unfortunately my cat ended up having a tumor behind her eye so the news was bad but the experience was great. They did charge a urgent care fee of 90 dollars which is 50 dollars less than the ERs I called and really not much more than a regular visit to my vet. Thank you University Vet Hospital for getting me in quick and for being so comforting.

This is the best place to take your fur babies, this place has amazing, friendly people who work there! I will never take my animals anywhere else, the kind hearted and compassion you feel makes you know your fur baby will be in great hands! Our bambi got a foxtail in her foot, and she needed surgery. We tried to take care of it at home, but in the end our girl needed help to feel better.. when I called and made the appointment, they didn’t think bad of me for trying to take care of it at home, and actually said we did a good job keeping it clean when we took her in. They keep you updated, and call about any news or decisions before they make them with your approval! Our girl had a foxtail in her paw that was causing some problems, but with the help of everyone at the university veterinary hospital and diagnostic center our girl is back home and already back to herself! We can’t thank them enough for their help, they saved our Bambi! Never again will I have to wonder where to take our fur babies if they need help again! Thank you again for everything! ❤️❤️

Been going here for 5+ years, but recently switched away. Even traveled over 45 mins to bring my dog here after moving. They're a great vet, which is why I stuck with them. A little expensive, but mostly worth it. Over the years though, my major gripe is now that they overbook themselves. I think they have too many current clients. They are consistently booked close to 2 months out. This is fine when scheduling regular checkups or vaccines, but if anything unscheduled comes up it can be really annoying to get in to see them. There are plenty of pet concerns that are time sensitive, but not an emergency. When you have no other option for your clients but to do a day long stay or an urgent care appointment just for something unexpected, it makes your pet care costs balloon. I've transitioned to another vet and I hope somebody at University reads this. You either need a new client waiting list OR you need to reduce the number of current clients. You have one less since I've left, but the problem will persist if you just replace me right away.

I absolutely love University Vet! The biggest testament to their genuine love of animals is how much my 7 month old pup enjoys her visits. She has only known the covid protocols of curbside drop off and pickup, and I was so nervous about not being able to go in with her to make it a positive experience. Turns out my worries were for nothing. When the tech comes out to get her, she is super excited and happy to trot off with them to the clinic. I don’t even get a backwards glance from her. Dr. Zelnik has been amazing in listening to and addressing my first time puppy owner concerns, and I love the warmth she has when talking about Autumn. Autumn had her spay recently, and they were so good with that too. I was nervous about the spay, and the tech Elaine was so reassuring and sent me pictures of her doing good and recovering until I could take Autumn home. This vet clinic genuinely loves and cares for Autumn like she’s family, is extremely knowledgeable and current in their field, and has been a pleasure to go to, I highly recommend!

I recently became a first-time cat mom. After bringing my Isla home from BestFriends, she developed a rash behind her left ear that concerned me. I called several vet clinics before contacting this one in search for availability sooner than June in case the rash was a symptom of something dangerous to Isla's health. Though I'd seen online that this clinic's availability was no sooner, I gave calling them a shot. There must have been a cancellation because luckily, I was able to get my kitty in that same day to see Dr. Rachel Walton! I didn't know what to expect from a vet appointment, but I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Walton's and the other staff's demeanor. I came with A LOT of questions to ensure I'm doing what I need to do to take the best care of my Isla and Dr. Walton was patient in answering each one of them, providing me with outside resources to investigate for further information. Overall, 10/10 experience and I'll definitely be bringing my kitty back here, as needed!

I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. Our dog LOVES coming to the vet and gets excited once we pull into the parking lot. Dr. Shawn Bybee has been caring for our dog since she was a puppy and he and his team truly go above and beyond to support every aspect of her well-being. Their clinical care is outstanding--from guiding us through the process of managing her hip dysplasia to a chipped tooth to her spay. One Saturday afternoon, I took our water-loving dog to Barley's to swim, but I didn't have her most recent vaccines with me. The lovely staff at UVHDC answered the phone and emailed the records to us immediately, and prevented our dog's heart from being broken. Everything they do comes from a place of exceptional client service and love for animals. The clinic itself is beautiful, well-stocked with dog treats and chocolate chip cookies for non-animal patrons. I will never go anywhere else!

My dog is very afraid of the vet and one of my first vets at University Vet suggested that we do her exam while I was in the room. It changed the whole experience for her, for me, and for the vet techs who had to try to wrangle a very strong and scared dog. I love the vets and when I have had issues the office manager has been open and willing to accept my feedback. My only real complaint is that sometimes the receptionists/vet techs can be a little short and I have had a hard time getting them to listen when I express concerns, however, the vets are wonderful. Every vet that I have been in contact with has been helpful and understanding, suggested things that might help calm my poor scared pup and because of it, the once very stressful visits to the vet have progressively gotten better.

  • Kate LaDue

I brought my dog in and his visit took 2 and 1/2 hours. The vet explained everything to me and told me if my dog did not get better to give him a call and we could work on next steps. After a week and a half my dog was still sick and I gave the vet a call. I am frustrated and disappointed because I have waited over 3 days to hear back from the vet. I understand that people get busy, however, I've followed up several times and my dog is so sick and I haven't had any call back. The staff suggested that I book an in person visit with him just so I am on his calendar and can chat with him in person. This is even more frustrating because I've already spent tons of money ($400) and I don't want to pay for a visit just because the vet can't get around to calling his patients back.

  • Carolee Hosfeld

This was our first time at the Vet with our new puppy, and Dr Garcia was great. She took the time to answer all our questions and provided information and tools we needed to keep our puppy healthy until our next visit. She was great with our little dog and we were comfortable that she really knows her stuff. It was a totally positive experience! ** Fast forward about 5 months and we're still pleased with the care that our growing pup receives at UVH! We had him in yesterday for a procedure and everyone there was great. He's doing well and they called me this morning to follow up and make sure he's doing ok. I feel like he was in very good hands in their care. I'm glad we gave them a shot and they will be caring for our little guy as he grows up!

  • Emma M

I am so impressed with University Vet hospital. They took care of my German Shepard who was having some dental pain and got him in for his dental appointment within a week by putting us on a call back list as they are very busy and were booked so far out. They even took care of some matting we were not aware of on his feet and clipped his nails while he was under anesthesia as he doesn't like his feet messed with. They kept us updated each step of the way and I am so impressed with Dr.Walton she explained things so well about what was going on with his treatment, blood work, and biopsy, and recommendations to improve his dental health. I will always recommend Dr. Walton and the university vet hospital thank you for taking care of my sweet boy!

  • Georgia VanDerwater

We have never had an experience with a vet like this one. The amount of care and availability they have shown to our two beloved cats has been so important to us. We moved here and both of our cats had severe unrelated health issues at the same time— it’s so stressful and scary, but the entire staff— techs, doctors, office staff— are inCREDibly knowledgeable, kind, professional and caring. We’ve seen both Dr. Stavely and Dr. Peruffo, we’ve had ultrasounds, x-rays, thoracentesis, multiple prescriptions… the staff does everything in their power to keep things affordable and and easy and they’re so gentle and sweet with the cats. We couldn’t be happier, truly. They really do go above and beyond. Thank you, university vet!!

  • Chandler Eads

Given the nature of a recent dog rescue, we have visited University Vet Hospital 3 times over the past 8 months, once for an initial check up, and two other times for illness. I appreciate the ability of the clinic to fit you in and the care they take with your animal. Transparency about pricing is appreciated and I like that they run preliminary tests to rule out symptoms before more expensive measures are taken. Dr. Garcia always assesses Banks in a manner that makes him most comfortable, by getting on the floor and taking her time. I always feel heard and their medical advice has always ended with positive results for our little guy. Couldn’t recommend enough.

  • M L

Both of my dogs are seen by Dr Witzel, she is fantastic and really listens to any concerns I have while I’m there. She is also so sweet with both of my dogs. I really appreciate the fact that they have “urgent care” appointments daily for when those little things come up. I have had a few instances of unpleasant interactions with the front desk, but I understand how busy these places are right now. I also am unimpressed with how much they mark up prescription prices there. One medication my dog was on for 3 months was more than double the price at University Vet than I got it for on Chewy. I would definitely look elsewhere if your pet needs something filled.

  • Ale Aguilar

University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center has been treating my pets for well over 10+ years. They have always been fantastic and I wish that everyone were so lucky as to have them be the vets for their pets. My dog has had two major knee surgeries with no complications and both of my cats have had wonderful checkups and dental work done here. If there is a business where they treat your pets like family it's University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center! Also, the cookies and drinks are a nice touch to help people feel more comfortable as they wait. Thank you to these guys for always being professional and outstanding in their services.

  • Tamara

Update: Recent care of one of our dogs with ongoing liver / gallbladder issues. Always feel we receive great advice and a thorough exam re: medical issues and options. Also helpful is we don't get a feeling of judgment if we choose quality of life for our dog/s over choices that may reduce that for them. All the vets and technicians are professional. Never had anything but a positive experience. Thank you. We have used University Vet for over six years. They have been very helpful in monitoring our Doodle's kidney issues to keep him healthy. We always receive attentive care from all staff whether it be front desk, vet techs or doctors. Highly recommend.

  • Steve Baker

I took my awesome cat in for a checkup and dental cleaning, it’s easy to schedule and ask questions. They ended up having to remove two of her teeth; I appreciate Dr. Bybee and the staff kept me up to date and made sure I was set to take care of her when she got home. They taught me what to look for in terms of pain and how to manage it, how to resume eating, and made sure my cat has follow-up care. I have the best cat and I’m glad she is in excellent hands! I wouldn’t trust anyone but the best to care for my cat - the peace of mind is worth any cost. I feel like the estimate for the procedure was really close, it was nice to know what to expect.

  • Ed Prasthofer

If you don’t bring pets in for annual “well visit” they will not see you. Well visits are a cash cow, not done in other countries such as Canada, and studies have shown that dogs live less long having these visits than not, perhaps with more procedures being performed. I am sure there will be an aggressive rebuttal, since the financial stakes are high, but I have been present at these visits, and they really can’t detect anything one wouldn’t be able to have an inkling of oneself. I suggest people willing to fork over money unnecessarily out of loyalty to their pet or guilt research the value of annual well visits by unbiased researchers.

  • Joshua Wren

Refused to give me my pets prescriptions that were already counted out and ready because they were doing inventory…. even after they texted me to come pick them up before 7pm. I got there shortly after 5pm…. But no, inventory is more important than pets health. I’ve Been coming here for a while now, they used to be great, but now they are actual awful. If you love and care about your pet, I wouldn’t go here, or even recommend an enemy to go here. It’s gotten that bad. Communication is terrible.I would highly recommend going to BARK CITY in park city. The long drive and higher prices are worth it if you truly care about your pet.

  • Katie-Rose Skelly

I have taken 3 dogs here. They are incredibly kind, truly care about their patients, and strive to give the best possible care. We lost a puppy last year and they could not have been more compassionate or provided better information and help given the circumstances. I doubt we would ever have known what was wrong with him or gotten our last few treasured weeks without their diligence. My 8 year old rescue is so much less afraid of the vet than she was the first time I brought her in, she happily comes in for love and treats. My puppy tries to run inside every time we walk by so he can greet his favorite people.

Don’t go anywhere else! Don’t go to MedVet! Dr Thatcher at University clinic is the best! Junior is very comfortable with him and so do I. I am confident both my cats Junior and Stella are getting the best of care with Dr Thatcher. I know that it takes a while to get an appt with him but it’s totally worth it! I trust him with the care of my cats and super happy to have found him. Junior means the world to me so anyone who is kind to him gets my deepest gratitude! Junior is 13 years old so he is a senior cat with several problems but after seeing his Vet he is always cool and relaxed. Thank you so much!

  • Caroline Kiley

Dr Walton was amazing today - we had a dog wellness checkup + some issues with a rash and possible bladder infection and / or UTI. I SO appreciate being given options and taking steps to sort out issues. Truth is I'm willing to pay big bucks to keep my sweet dog healthy, however when I'm presented with the most expensive and extensive option out of the gate (as I was last week at another clinic) I immediately pull back and lose trust. Dr Walton's approach is perfect , and resulted in feeling so good about the clinic I'll likely have teeth cleaned and possible surgery at U Vet Hospital . Thank you !

  • Patryk G

I take my dog here regularly and each time I'm greeted with professional staff, that's kind and courteous and happy to see my pup. Pricing is average for the location and Im always given a price breakdown before and work is preformed. After care instructions (and sometimes medicines) are always given and any questions I've ever had are either answered on the spot - or if I forget and call in - the doc answers over the phone. No mishaps, double billing, over booking or other poor management processes. I can't recommend this place enough for your furry friends.

  • Jayde Shepherd

I am a first time puppy owner and my sister highly recommended this place to us and I’m so glad she did! This office is very professional and took time to get to know my pup, as well as hear me out / answer all my crazy questions and concerns! Everyone made us feel so comfortable and my pup loved it, he didn’t want to leave when we were walking out the door! Thank you all for your amazing service and time! Also for anyone wanting to make an appointment make sure to schedule far in advance as this place is in high demand and appointments book out fast!

  • Erin Saunders

Our cat was in pain, and our longtime regular vet was booked out for weeks. Mercifully, University was able to get us a same-day urgent care appointment. Everyone we interacted with was knowledgeable and professional; front office staff were observant and approachable, and the doctors and techs had great bedside manner. The team has also been proactive about checking in to see how recovery is going, and when we asked for additional pain management, they turned the Rx around in a matter of hours. Our boy is on the mend, and we are so grateful.

  • Gary Fudyma

I was able to get an urgent care appointment for our dog, Stella, the same day I called. Dr. Staveley was thorough with her exam and her exam along with her head full of knowledge made an accurate diagnosis. Plus she was kind and patiently answered all my questions. The front office check in process is smooth and efficient as is the check out process where you can pay and make follow up appts while in the exam room with the tech. This is a professional, efficient and excellent veterinary practice. I highly recommend this practice.

  • Clémence Roger

My anxious dog met with Dr Walton for her yearly checkup. Dr Walton and her assistant were calming and patient with my puppy who was being very vocal. They gave her plenty of healthy treats in order acclimatize her. The staff ensured they answered any questions I may have. I was a little put back by the suggestions for extra procedures such as yearly blood works, spaying, nail trimming… though I was warned by the person who referred me. I’ll be going back since this is my local independent vet for yearly checkups.

  • Sarah Howerton

I've always loved the staff here! They are above and beyond amazing!!! I recently went in for a tech visit for a nail trim. It was a little bit more than I was expecting (almost 40$). I didn't take a star off for it because I understand that my $37 for a nail trim will likely off set the cost of an emergency surgery for someone else. Even if it's a few dollars/cents for me, I'm happy to pay it forward so others can have slightly more affordable care for their own beloved family members.

  • Steven Rhondeau MD

As a physician, I feel very fortunate to have found this clinic. Everyone is always so kind, professional, and caring about our pets. I also know the care they receive is excellent, which gives me great peace of mind. We have never had a negative or bad experience here in all the years they have been caring for our pets, which says a lot about their philosophy and commitment to their work. We highly recommend them — you can rest assured your pets will receive the highest level of care.

  • Melinda M

I took my two 4 month old puppies into the office for their establishment visit, 2nd vaccines and microchips. I received excellent suggestions on food, though we had chosen wisely. They got all the shots that we agreed they needed. The new microchips now do temperature checks so no more thermometers up their backsides. I call that a win. I already take my two cats and had taken our previous dog before he needed to move across the rainbow bridge. They handled that amazingly.

  • Bennett Gleave

We’ve taken our 5 lb teacup poodle to Dr Thatcher for two procedures. We were nervous about putting such a small dog under, but Dr Thatcher did a fantastic job. Not only did the surgeries go well, he was confident, professional, and helped provide us with all available options. We’ve have positive experiences with all the staff, which can’t be said about other vets I’ve been to. From the desk staff, to technicians, to doctors, they hire the best! Highly recommend.

  • Deedra Jones

Each of their staff is so kind and genuinely good with animals. I’ve taken my cat to vets that have handled the animals really roughly, but each member of this staff was gentle and calm so my cat was overall less stressed. They were able to get us seen very quickly and addressed our dental concerns in a timely manner with my cats pain level and needs being put first. We established care recently and will continue to use them for his regular vet visits after this.

  • S Valentine

The team at University Veterinary Hospital always provide very kind and attentive care to my dog. They are very thorough in discussing your pet’s care and different options. I feel like they really listen to a pet owner and are not dismissive. My pup receives top quality care and treatment from Dr. Thatcher and the team at the clinic. The only negative is they don’t want to work with mail order per prescription services that are more convenient for pet owners.

  • Krystina Lopez

They are incredible to work with and genuinely so nice. I was nervous about my dog’s surgery when I dropped her off and they appeased me and told me that they’d make sure I got updates throughout the day and they made good on their promise! They are so patient in answering all your questions and it really is worth the price. They also always call to follow up on my dog whenever we have to go to the emergency clinic or after a procedure which is so thoughtful!

  • Michael Allen

This is the kindest, most thorough, and most caring vet practice I have been to. Since we started going here we have moved down the valley and still take our dogs here because the level of care is so consistently excellent. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the techs, to the vets are on the same page. Communication is excellent and you can tell that they treat pets with respect and the same care they would have for their own. Excellent all around.

  • Gentrie Thaxton

The customer service here is nonexistent. I am constantly on long holds, which points to understaffing, yet when I come in there are always plenty of receptionists. They are cold, short, and rude. They told me my cat could wait to be seen for their urgent care next week, but when I called a ER they said he needs to be seen ASAP. Luckily my cat is ok but what if I had not called the ER?? This place used to be so great but now I will be going elsewhere.

  • Sherry Moyes

This is one of several outstanding experiences we have had with the excellent and very caring staff at University Vet Hospital. They fit us in for an emergent urgent care visit this time around and took exceptionally good care of our dog, Luna. From start to finish, they exceed expectations. Highly recommend their “chill protocol” for those who have nervous/reactive animals. You can trust these good folks with your precious family members.

  • Catherine Cameron

Love this place! Took my cat in to establish care since she has a chronic condition and we're new to the area. Everyone I spoke with was wonderful - front desk, techs, and the doctor. My concerns were listened to, the staff was already familiar with my cat's history, and I feel good about the plan going forward. Loved how much care was shown my cat - she wasn't at all stressed. The fireplace and kid's area in the lobby are nice extra touches!

  • jamie Langarica

I’ve always had amazing experiences at University Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Bybee has been giving the best treatment to my Pittie Mila since day 1 as well as Dr. Thatcher to my other Pittie Rocko! The Vets actually take time to call you and explain in detail all the lab results, procedures, treatment, when your dog is going under anesthesia and as soon as they are awake, etc. The staff and techs are incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming!

  • Katie Thompson

This was our first visit to University Veterinary Hospital The staff was friendly and prompt, they greeted us quickly, and got us right back into an exam room. Dr Adrienne Pincetl was friendly did an amazing job at listening to our concerns. She had several suggestions to help our anxious kitty. She thoroughly discussed options for supplements, prescription medications, and environmental changes to make in our home. ~Olive

  • Halli Jacobson

University Veterinary Hospital is by far the best vet I've brought my animals too. The staff is so friendly, helpful, educational and truly cares about your animals like they would their own. One of our dogs has had a lot of medical issues, and is also terrified of the vet, they've treated him so well and cared for him so well, the vet is no longer a scary place for him. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital!

  • Stephanie Brutt

I don’t have enough kind words to say about this vet. My 1 year old dog needed surgery, and this vet went above and beyond every step of the way. From the pre-op, to the day of the surgery, they constantly checked in and ensured my pup was taken care of and in the best hands. I’m so grateful to have found a vet who I can trust with my dog’s wellbeing. Every single person I encountered loved on my dog. Thank you.

  • Christina Williams

Dr. Garcia and Shane S, our tech, were absolutely wonderful. Dr. Garcia was open minded and talked through all treatment options with me and reasoning for each, as well as reasoning for ruling out other diagnoses to give my pup the best care. Shane was so kind and attentive to my dog and made our visit so smooth and easy despite vaccines and tests. Would highly recommend this location to a family or friend.

  • Molly Araktingi

Our vet transferred over to University Veterinary Hospital recently, and we have been pleasantly surprised at how great they have been!! We take all 3 of our dogs here now, and the staff is so friendly, professional and knowledgeable. You can tell they genuinely care about your pet/animals. Dr. Thatcher is the most amazing vet, the best, and we will continue to take our dogs to him!! Highly recommend!!

The vets have given great medical for my cat and have been dedicated to making sure he is healthy and well taken care of. They got him in quickly when I had an urgent care need and he is 100% better. The cost, however, is quite pricey for a visit and care. Not sure if anything can be done about that or if their typical clientele feels that way. Otherwise, 5 stars for their care and attention!

  • Mars Jacobsen

The folks here take excellent care of my cats. Animals are like family to me, and it's such a relief to know that my loved ones are in good hands. Dr. Garcia and the rest of the staff are patient, understanding, and very responsive to questions and concerns. Going to the vet can be a scary experience for both animals and humans alike, but this place makes it as comfortable as possible.

Look, this is a “nice” veterinary office. It’s in a “nice” part of town in a “nice” building and that’s about it. Extremely pushy staff who often come across as judging. Poor management that has led to multiple cancelled appointments by their staff due to errors on their end, followed by pushy, aggressive calls during working hours to reschedule. After this second time we’re moving on.

  • Rachel Henning

Absolutely loved our experience here and Dr. Brown! They answered all our 1st time puppy parent questions and their puppy package was awesome to bundle all his care the 1st year. With so many choices in the city, we are very happy we chose University Veterinary Hospital! They are on high demand so definitely recommend calling to schedule your 1st appointment before you get your pet.

  • NIK

My cat had some bladder stones and a blockage, taking him to University Vet was the best decision we made!! The team is all amazing, let me know what was happening every step of the way, and Dr.Bybee was able to recommend us to a specific vet to get the procedure that Hammy needed all done!! It was quick efficient, and an overall amazing experience!! Thank you again all so much!!

  • Caroline Maahs

I came in for a life-saving emergency surgery and they did an amazing job. My pup was taken care of quickly and is fully recovered now, and they did a great job taking care of me too. Answering all my questions, talking to me as soon as they had any updates, and sending me home with thorough discharge instructions. Couldn’t have hoped for anything better during a very scary time.

  • Jillyn Neslen

We followed Dr. Thatcher from a his previous practice. He is so knowledgeable and thorough we had to make sure we stayed with him. This is also such a nice facility with a very kind staff and calming atmosphere which is nice for a nervous pup. My dog seemed much more comfortable when walking in, and honestly not stressed when we left. All around great experience.

  • immy worth

I was able to get an urgent care appointment quickly and fairly easily(just involved a 7am phone call to see if they had space), the staff were great and when I had a follow up dental appointment they put me on a cancellation list so my pet was able to be seen asap which may have saved his teeth! Always very respectful and kind staff, and the Doctors are great.

I rarely take the time to write reviews unless it is so deserving. I've been taking pets to vets for a few decades and these people are the best. I'm very grateful for the service they provide. Just remember, that there is a shortage of vets these days s be patient with whomever you are able to see and wherever that may be. Veterinarians are the best of us.

  • Tallie Jameson

Very unhappy with our visit with Dr. Witzel. She pretty much told me I was a bad pet owner for my dog having anxiety. My dog has had anxiety since I got him and I have tried everything. I came to the clinic with my dog to ask for some anxiety medicine as I have found this works best for my dogs anxiety. I have NEVER been so upset leaving a vet appointment.

  • Breedoe

I love taking my pets here. They have always been so helpful and kind. My elderly cat was sick and I called them for some information and unfortunately, she died in my arms while I was still on the phone with them. The person on the phone was so kind and handled it so gracefully. When I brought her in they helped me with cremation and a memorial piece.

  • Kim Southam

Dr Brown was extremely helpful & kind to my dog, Luigi. She was very forthright & upfront on the issue he faced. Moreover, I felt in great hands & appreciate both Dr Thatcher & Dr Brown. You won't be disappointed with these thoughtful & knowledgeable Veterinarians!! And all the staff & assistants were helpful also. Give your best friend, the best!

  • Constance Daly

Dr. Shawn Bybee consulted with me on 2-20-23 regarding questions I had about my French Bulldog’s recovery from surgery of Stenotic Nares Repair and neuter on 2-08-23. He patiently answered all of my questions perceiving I was probably having more problems with the situation than Cubby! They care, not only for the pet, but the owners mental health.

  • Erin Gibson

We have one dog who has fear based reactivity and they have done a really good job working with her and soothing her. This has decreased my anxiety about taking her to the vet. The employees clearly deeply care about animals and not just the ones that are easy to like. I am deeply appreciative to have them caring for our dogs.

  • Kim Davison

This was by far the BEST vet experience we have ever had! We recently relocated to SLC and were nervous about finding a new vet. Everyone at University Veterinary Hospital was amazing and very welcoming. Dr. Garcia made our pup feel at ease and made everything super easy. We could not be more happy with our experience!

  • ALEXANDRA BUSICO

I can't say enough good things about this clinic! The front desk staff were so kind and friendly, the tech was incredibly nice and thorough with her questions. Sunny saw Dr. Ryan Thatcher, he was warm, easygoing, very informative, paid great attention to her and addressed all of my concerns. I would highly recommend!

  • Angelica Lamas

I love taking my dog to this place! They are very professional and caring, my dog used to be nervous and he didn’t like vets at all but every time I take him there he leaves happy and relaxed, it shows that they take good care and they love what they do! I’m really grateful that I found this place! 100% recommended!!

  • Alex Scuterud

The staff were so kind and helpful. I especially appreciated how upfront they were regarding any costs associated with everything they recommend. We walked out feeling like we got the care our little guy needed without feeling like we were being taken advantage of. Thanks so much for seeing us on such short notice.

  • Emma Bruss

Amazing! I’m just in town for a short time and unfortunately my dog got sick after being the Causey Reservoir. They were so friendly and able to get us in to be seen last minute! The doctor was thorough and personable. She even called me the next day to update me on lab results. I would highly recommend this vet!

  • Stephanie S

Love this place but I've been on hold for over 10-15 minutes the last 4 times I have called... months apart. It seems like the long wait times for calls are ongoing, which suggests the need for more reception staff. It's enough of a hassle to get through with someone that I am almost switching vets over it.

  • Sage Barton

The staff was very calm, patient, and friendly with my anxious dog. I would highly recommend this place if you have a reactive/anxious dog. The vet tech gave my dog a blanket and water while we waited to help her settle and the vet was so gentle and kind to my dog while examining her. Excellent service!

  • Rachelle Green

We love taking our pets here! We have seen Dr. Walton since our cats were babies. She always takes her time to explain everything. One cat is outgoing and friendly and the other is terrified, and she takes the time to make both feel comfortable in their own ways. The staff is also friendly and helpful.

  • Sarah Geary

The staff at University Vet Hospital are all incredibly kind and patient. I took my puppy in after my friend referred me and they answered all my questions, gave excellent recommendations, and made me feel assured they would help me take care of my pup in the best way possible. Cannot recommend enough.

  • Jennifer Mejia

They always take such good care of my dog! She’s a little shy and usually needs a little extra time to get accustomed to her surroundings. They love on her and gain her trust every time! They take my concerns into consideration and give me all possible options. I tell everyone to take their pet here!

  • Heidi Franke

Spoke with medical director to improve communication with staff and human. They do not have their own ultrasound. That contract out and if ordered as emergent it costs approx $200 on top of the ultrasound. If you can wait a week I was told there is no emergency fee. Best vet techs around.

  • Savannah Manwill

University Vet has been our primary veterinarian for my two cats for the last five years. Dr. Garcia is thorough, kind, and always takes the time to answer my questions on the phone or in person. I have also had excellent interactions with the front desk staff as well as the vet techs!

  • Eric Bowser

Great care! Took my pupper in for urgent care since I didn't have an appt and it didn't break the bank. Still expensive since he needed xrays, but very reasonable. I was seen withing 10 minutes, so I lucked out. Got my doggo checked out and on our way with the medication he needed.

  • April Stocks

I took my cat in to them yesterday on an urgent care visit. Her eyes had been red and she had been squinting a lot for a few days. They were so gentle and sweet with my baby. We weren’t there waiting forever and we hopefully got it all figured out. The staff was so kind.

  • Mike Fitzgerald

You can always tell the true character of a person (or a place in this case) when you need them most… First time- I understand. The second time and you treat me like you’ve never seen us. Take our money when convenient.. brush me off when not. Broken trust- take it FWIW.

  • Ashli Kingfisher

Great care... beyond just regular care, they also have a few urgent care appointments for last-minute calls. We have been bringing our oets here for three years, and I have seen them continuously reach for higher and higher standards of care. Best Vets I have ever used.

  • Hanna Holzer

Our dog had a preventive dental cleaning administered by the staff. The staff were very friendly and kept me informed of how our dog was doing throughout the day. They took incredible care of our dog, and we were extremely satisfied with the clinic. Highly recommend!

  • Julie Taylor

Couldn’t ask for a better experience. Went in for a new patient appointment. The front staff we very polite and helpful and the vet was fantastic too. Didn’t try and talk me into any unnecessary tests and really cared about my pet. Would recommend to anyone!

  • Summer Stein

Absolutely amazing staff. They made me feel comfortable with leaving my cat there when she needed it and made sure she was comfortable. The staff was caring and took the time to hear what was wrong with my cat. I definitely found my forever vet with them.

  • Alyssa Villa

I’ve been coming to this vet over the past year and so far, it’s been great! They’ve been helpful in solutions and have been able to answer all my questions and are understanding about my dogs dog reactivity. Always a clean space and minimal wait time.

  • Linda Fenton Dance Studio

This veterinary takes excellent care of my 3 small over-active dogs. We get their checkups done once a year. The Drs are through and kind. They take plenty of time, answer all your questions and the place is spotless. Plus there is plenty of parking.

  • Larry Mann

The only reason I'm not giving this review 5 stars is that I had to wait so long when it appeared to be the slowest business day I've ever seen there. The place was practically empty, yet I had to wait 45 minutes. Did anyone apologize? Of course not.

  • Kyton Sweat

We bring our 2 dogs here and it’s always great! Sometimes it’s a bit busy and the waits are killer, especially when the front desk forgets to put your name in for a quick vaccine visit, but other than that happening a few times, it’s a great vet!

  • T Andrew

University Vet was able to triage my 12 year old chorky the same day I called about her rectal bleeding. Dr. Bybee set my mind at ease and gave us a plan of action moving forward. The place has a good vibe and the desk staff are kind.

  • Erika

Excellent! All the staff was so nice, friendly and helpful. Savannah our room tech and Dr. Garcia were so kind and patient with our dog. Even with a lab draw they provided a truly fear free experience. I appreciate them so much!

  • Christine Paletta

Our dog Harry recently had surgery at University Veterinary Hospital & Diagnostic Center. We are so pleased with the care and treatment he received. Everyone was helpful and very patient with us and our little “ monster dog”.

  • Katie Tucker

The staff is always helpful when calling in to make appointments and with any questions. They always treat our dog with care and love. The vets always provide additional information to help us give the best care for our pet.

  • Erica Reifenberg

My cats have seen several vets and vet techs here. All have been professional, kind, and helpful with any questions I have had. Front desk staff is also good. Prices are equal to last veterinary clinic I used in same area.

  • Amber Ghost78595

Caring staff, Dr Potts wae so kind and helpful with my cat. She answered all my questions and gave me helpful advice. The tech was also kind helpful. I so glad I found this office …

  • Justin Olson

I love University Veterinary Hospital! They always take such good care of my fur babies. I love that they have the urgent care option as well so I do t have to take my fur baby to the vet emergency room.

  • Ashley Roese

Love bringing my pups here. Every question answered with patience, friendly staff, and you can tell everyone genuinely cares about your pets. Very glad we chose UVH when we moved to the area years ago!

  • April Feather

We just had our first appointment with Dr. Walton and she was amazing! Very sweet with my dog and listened to all my concerns and questions. I'm so happy to have found such a great veterinary clinic!

  • Peter Margulies

Dr Walton was great with our very senior dog Ollie. She took time and assessed him very thoroughly. The entire staff did a great job and I appreciate Dr Walton taking extra time with Ollie. Thank you

  • Denise McCall

  • Alissa Harris

Cannot say enough good things. When my dog got injured they fit her in last minute and we're even willing to do a procedure if needed. They called me with every single update and are so so nice!

  • Thomas Petersen

University Veterinary is the only place for our pets! Friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and a kid-friendly (and may I add cookie-stocked) waiting area make for an A+ experience every time.

  • Meg Randle

Noah and dr Potts asked a lot good assessment questions and answered even more. I feel more aware of what and how best to care for my dog. Prince is well cared for at Unv Pet Clinic

  • Gregory Thelen

Staff was very friendly, I have a very nervous dog and they went out of their way to make her feel safe and welcomed. They had her tail wagging even after getting multiple shots.
