This is what i actually learned when i was having wonderful holidays in U.C.T. A Psychometric tests which were described as follows, Psychometric tests are not like a regular tests as the answers cannot be learned off by heart. They are essentially timed aptitude tests. So what the employers want to know is what your natural ability is at a certain subject. While many employers assume the test cannot be practiced in advance of an interview, the truth is, it can. Given the strict tight time limitations for taking psychometric tests, if you did not practice beforehand, you will likely gain a very average score. What it boils down to is that even people who are very good at verbal reasoning or numeracy will do badly unless they have practiced their timing. Through practicing psychometric tests online, you can also gain an understanding of what the real test may look like and how it will operate – giving you a little boost of confidence when taking the real test! So what do you do in order to prepare for a psychometric test? • Take practice tests online which are timed. Keep practicing until you get a score you are happy with. • Buy books with practice psychometric tests and advice on how to take them. These are usually written by people who create the tests themselves, so they know what they are talking about. • Practice your skim and scan reading skills. This is especially important for verbal reasoning tests. You have to read and answer questions based on large pieces of text extremely quickly.
Both my wife and I are alumni from UCT. The quality of education and service varies greatly from department to department but my wife has had continuous uphill struggles with the politics department in particular. They have been ridiculously unaccommodating of my wife's ongoing illness, when other departments were incredibly helpful. Despite all the appropriate medical information, the department has for the past few years made it incredibly difficult for my wife to attain her degree. They have treated her with so little humanity and respect for my wife's ongoing personal health issues, this is in the face of the fact that she works a full-time job and has been finishing her degree at the same time. The department has been very exclusionary in terms of disabilities and cultural differences. For example, in politics tutorials the tutor and some of the students engage in course work related conversations in isiXhosa which is not the official learning language of the university. When she complained about this, she was told 'this is Africa'. My wife is a South African person of colour, and are you telling me that she is expected to understand isiXhosa in order to fully access the course? We have both been appalled by the conduct of this department and its general lack of consistency.
From a visitor's perspective, the University of Cape Town is a massive campus which gave me Aalto University vibes. The campus consists of various buildings. Some buildings are more interesting than others as they have an almost castle style architecture. The plants swallowing some buildings is an interesting touch. I don’t think students require a gym since the lengthy walk from building to building is quite a workout. Set-up is unique ranging from lights resembling upside down candles to a tunnel engulfed in graffiti. Campus encourages recycling and possesses several dustbins. Prestine environment (probably cause of all the dustbins). Furthermore, there are kiosks and a cafeteria. I recommend tagging a water bottle along as campus walk can become thirsty. The University of Cape Town knows how to make students comfortable and has set a high bar for what a tertiary instituition should be. They even conveniently have an on site store. Finally, the sprinkles on the ice-cream: there is a lovely view of Table Mountain.
This place will give you all the kind of fun you are looking for, but at the same time you are expected to pass. If you find yourself here, don't be arrogant and assume that just because you got good marks at high school, university is going to be a breeze. Its not, it is hours of hard work and dedication. You need to start studying from day one. Set your self goals. Believe in yourself. Follow excellence and success will follow you. If you love sport like me, then you are still at a right place. I joined a chess team and it's been great you get a chance to meet one of the greatest chess players around the country. Have fun and enjoy in UCT. Surround yourself with few idiots, by idiots I mean people who always think out of the box. This place is one of the greatest ever. I can spend all day talking about UCT.
The University of Cape Town (UCT) is a publicresearch university located in Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. UCT was founded in 1829 as the South African College making it the oldest higher education institute in South Africa, it is jointly the oldest university in South Africa and the oldest extant university in Sub-Saharan Africaalongside Stellenbosch University which received full university status on the same day in 1918. UCT is the highest-ranked African university in the QS World University Rankings, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities, and its Law and Commerce Faculties are consistently placed among the hundred best internationally. The language of instruction is English.
Rated as the best University in the continent of Africa, this is a place to be if you want to study. *World class facilities. *Friendly and approachable lecturers. *More than hundreds of societies to and students movement to be part of. Whether you're into religion, politics, nature, art, etc. There's all. *They offer best student support and wellness services. *Well it's one of the most if not the most diverse institution. This is literally a place where all cultures, traditions, races, philosophies...converge. All you need to do is to not forget the primary goal of why you're here. Then you'll definitely enjoy the greatness of UCT. The only flaw is I've seen MOST beautiful campuses in the country, but UCT is not one of them... It's still beautiful though.
This place used to be the jewel in our educational system, but now it's held hostage by hipsters and millennials, and this new breed of entitleds that have never worked for anything and their rich parents paying for their education, yet they are demanding free education at this education, or reduced rates for the very least and they are anti colonialism, yet they choose to go to an institution that was created by THE Cecil John Rhodes, a British businessman, mining magnate and politician in South Africa, who served as Prime Minister of the Cape Colony from 1890 to 1896...It's like going to the Middle East and being anti Arabia....!!! The leadership is too weak to take action.
Service from Student Housing is awful!!! Student residences are falling apart! Poor insulation; water issues such as cold running water and that same water collects dirt as it moves through rusted pipes. Fire alarm malfunctioning! Wi-fi breaking up and down! Don't get me started on the res food that students paid thousands of rands for. Res food with portion sizing being too little, res food causing food poisoning; res food that's poorly prepared. If I was a lawyer I'd sue this over-rated all talk "prestigious" university for every penny I wasted at student housing.
Finished my BSc(Eng) in Electrical Engineering at UCT in 2021 and now work in industry. Put simply, UCT is a world class institution offering some of the best facilities, lecturers and labs in the country for engineering studies. Quite a vibrant, international campus with students from all over the world. It is a research focused university and currently is ranked first in Africa by many different international ranking systems. Not to mention the stunning campus that you should visit if you are thinking of studying in Cape Town.
I was a grad student, in the Faculty of Science, between 2011 and 2017. I had one of the most rewarding and fulfilling academic experiences during my long stay here. I am glad I chose to move to The UCT for my postgraduate studies. A few things that stood out for me: (1) Racially and culturally diverse student and staff population (2) World-class educational environment and infrastructure (3) Beautiful campus. PS: Rent a Jammie Bike and cycle to/from campus, if you wish to have a more positive experience---I know I did :)
This place is filled with some amazing buildings. Surrounded by nature at the foot of table mountain. Had so much fun just strolling around the university. There is so much to see, just amazing art and some awesome views. Definitely worth the walk that i took. You could even take a walk from here up to Rhodes memorial and then hike up the mountain. There is enough parking and lots of spot to hang out with friends. I went there to go and shoot some epic videos. Had a good time.
My alma mater! ♥♥♥♥♥ Little did I expect during my bachelor's that I'd like the place so much that I'd do the master's too here. UCT is the oldest university in SA. And undoubtedly the finest. It is the highest in rankings and always figures in QS World University Rankings as well as TIMES HE Rankings. Scenic, located on Rhodes estate besides Devil's Peak. A full-fledged campus with all amenities for students.
For the best University in the country, they sure have the worst website too. The admin / help desk is really bad, and the site UX - application links don't work. I can't find how to apply anywhere, none of the links work, the help desk repeats my questions as answers, and all I want to do is apply. What on earth is happening on this site? I can't even find a simple application form?
Hated and loved by its students in equal measure. Everyone loves being a student at UCT until they get university work. Ultimately there's a reason it is always in the top 2 universities on the continent on every university ranking list. Hard to get into, hard to afford but a quality education and recognisable name on your CV for the rest of your career.
A world class in institution of higher learning, one of South Africa's best. Diverse cultures, traditions and nations all meet in the same space. It has gone through a polotical strain but it does not negate the fact that it offers a great service with regards to education, leadership and creating a platform for great advances in society as a whole.
Great university with a beautiful history and beautiful old buildings. Loads of old heritage. Do take sometime to learn about the history of this university and then go for a scroll around it. The upper parts of forestry behind the university is really beautiful in one can get lost in the beauty of the mountain slopes.
Iconic University in Africa. The University of Cape Town is the oldest University in the Western Cape. It is a research institution. UCT is currently ranked number 1 in Africa. UCT was found in 1828. World renowned heart surgeon Christian Bernard studied at UCT. The University have various campuses in Cape Town.
It's a grandeur.. Had an awesome experience standing at the top step... The city view is just fantastic just outside Sarah Baartman Hall...enjoyed roaming around the University with my son who is doing his Engineering in Mechatronics and Mechanical.. Feel proud and happy for having my son studying at UCT …
Amazing university that's as diverse as it gets. The lectures are indeed intuitive and they insist on getting you to learn how the answer is derived rather than just the answer. The staff and faculty are amazing as well. I am an international student here and I can honestly say, best university I've been to.
Ahh, UCT. I did my degree here for 3 years, and it was the best time of my life. UCT is a colonial construct however, and this has brought with it many issues, mainly those from the past. It is possibly the most beautiful campus on the planet, with Table Mountain standing behind, like some watchful ward.
It's on a moutain, it's got the views but also the leg workout. Does have a good transport service from various locations to the campus but can get crowded. Finding parking is a nightmare, but not impossible if you have the disk (still hard). Though I do like the old school vibe of the buildings.
It's a public university, located in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. In terms of education, I am proud to be here, it might be cliché but "it is the best university in Africa". In fact, it is currently* ranking high. *I hope this does not change, to those seeing this in the future Lol
Very affordable in contrast to the top quality of education and services offered. If UCT were to be in the UK, I'll be paying nothing less than £17,000 in comparison to the paltry $2000 for my PhD programme. Best University I have ever been to. The environment itself is unique and beautiful
An amazing institution with a vibrant collective of students. Amazing food that is affordable for students, with different societies that help maintain the student body. The free transportation system, Jammie Shuttles, may be a bit unreliable but is a quick and efficient mode of transport.
Its reputation says it all. Amazing campus and great lecturers based on my experiences. Parking is an issue as there is very few parking vs staff and students. Online registration is ok but there is a few issues with it which gets ignored every year. These issues are not being addressed.
The place is beautiful but the wind in so strong. It can be sunny and then suddenly the wind picks up and you're shivering. You'll put on layers to combat the wind but then when the wind isn't blowing, you'll PERSPIRE. Academically it's world-class but as a place to visit, give it a pass
Another excellent place of learning. State of the art learning takes place here. The student is not without all the crucial resources as well as the necessary seminars and workshops to master your ‘studenting’. Diverse culture on campus, all dedicated to the same mission, education.
Open and big place. Many convenient places to eat, such as outside of libraries. There are strict COVID restrictions therefore in the libraries there are only a limited amount of people allowed inside and have to wear a mask the whole duration if your study time in the library.
A very good university. High quality education that is well respected. The most beautiful campus of any university I have ever seem with sweeping views over Cape Town. On the down side it is a bit bureaucraticly and teaching style wise old fashioned.
I went to support my cousin at the two oceans marathon only to hear by the entrance no spectators are allowed in on a big open field so all the people that couldn't go in were gathered outside that entrance on top of one another disgraceful
UCT is an incredible school. Students are very well rounded, academically and many are involved in extracurriculars. The campus is absolutely beautiful. There are majors and classes for any subject. Sports are really good, and also fun to
If you don't have it you won't make it Discipline is the order of the day here. Some ppl are born great, others greatness is thrust upon them, and others have greatness in them, however if you put your mind to it Excellence …
I work here and it's the best place to be if you love what you doing and knowing that your input supports the academic goals of our students, besides the beautiful view and amenities for staff and students. UCT is the place to be❤️ …
As an exchange student, the system here is absolutely terrible! No useful information given beforehand about courses, very little help, and the professors care less for you, than they do for their neighbors lawn. But if you can survive
What a beautiful campus, with loads of activities and sports to participate in. Libraries are dedicated to fields of study, and computer resources are plenty. Lecturers are experts and the whole experience is just amazing.
Lovely place, clearly lots of European culture-architecture and setup. Peaceful and breathtaking. Open to the public one should feel free to tour and enjoy the birds, humans and squirrels.Photography is highly welcome.
beautiful campus, good shuttle service for students with on-board wifi. in my short stay, it lived up to its reputation with both lecturers and students dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and making global impact.
The UCT steps are a lot longer in person but the view from the top is amazing! A lot of buildings were disappointing from the inside though. They look like they've seen better days...and need upgrading.
The university is highly overrated. The residences are terrible and decaying. It is dropping in international rankings by the year. It is located in an unsafe area and little is done to protect students
It's my wish to have one of my family to study there as my late brother was studying there but couldn't finish because of accident which took his life and after my father's death .He became demotivated.
Too stressed about making it back to your car in time in order to avoid a parking fine (complex parking rules) Update: Very few visitors' parking bays and little leniency from the traffic officials.
Great University. Diverse student body with a capable faculty. Over the years they have become more conscious to issues affecting society and the student body. Some faculties need better management
Magnificent historic University. Had the privilege of walking all around the campus a month ago and was overwhelmed by the old buildings. Must be so awesome to be able to assist there full-time.
Beautiful campus with some truly amazing academics, brought down by an incompetent administration and toxic decolonisation movement. Rather seek private sector alternatives for education.
UCT is amazingly diverse and cutting edge . The university offers state of the art facilities and is the most beautiful campus in africa , if not the world . AWESOME VIBE . …
Pretty horrible administration for undergrad, but great for post-grads. Sees undergraduate students as a necessary evil to be tolerated. Other than the Administration it is pretty cool.
As a tourist it was well worth the visit, surrounded by table mountain and forest, you can have a wonderful walk. Only down side is the racial graffiti spiralled across war memorials.
Well, I went for the open day. It is such an amazing university with lots of different options for any student. BEAUTIFUL VIEW! I would get distracted if I were to go there everyday
Best University in Africa found in the most beautiful city on earth. What more can you ask for? The quality of life and the quality of education at this university are fantastic.
Don't have any details but I only heard the best about this university and I would love to learn more about this university and also join as soon as I finish grade 12 (2021) .
A very good university. High quality education that is well respected. The most beautiful campus of any university I have ever seem with sweeping views over Cape Town.
It's amazing University and I wish to apply for a scholarship to study there and I am in grade 11 in Westbank high school..I wish I got a scholarship to attend there
UCT is a pleasant place to study and make friends. As a student of ELC I have no complains to share. It's everything well organized and the teachers are excellent!
The best University in Africa. It may look ancient for the outside but the Infrastructures are 100% up to date with the Latest technologies and Research facilities
It's highly recommended place surrounded by mountain and wood land. It's conserving nature. Ecology. Plants and Animals you find them here and are very protected
It's quite inclusive. It's fun, has a nice atmosphere about it and most of all, most people I've met here have been super kind, so that's one hell of a bonus.
Although it was raining wet and soggy,I enjoyed it and it brought back memories of days gone by and running the 56km ocean and finishing on the sports fields.
It has excellent lectures that knows how to apply knowledges to student and staff, also has enough security to protect students and staff from vulnerability.
It’s a nice university except sometimes if you eat outside, some birds will attack you and even take some of your food. Other than that, it’s alright.
Caused many all nighters, taking its toll on my mental health and making me question my purpose as a whole. 5/5 authentic university experience
A historical place with unique aesthetic beauty. The architecture is something to behold as the buildings are extraordinary and well-designed.
It's a great campus in so many ways. The teaching and research here are the best on the continent. Plus, the views are great in any direction.
Its beautiful packed with lots of knowledge going there was not a mistake so that i can witness for myself the Number 1 university in Africa
Very good institution. Hoping it will help the future students to come with the same grace, and helpfulness. Especially financially. Good.
The table mountain view is out of this world . I enjoy my time here . Sara Baatman Hall and everything about the University is phenomenal
You’ll never have to worry about leg when you’re a UCT student. Great picturesque views and quality education. Watch out for the birds :D
UCT is the best university in the southern hemisphere, Well resourced and very positive space. Staff members are always willing to help.
Beautiful campus and rated best in Africa. Possibly one of the few independent and excellent universities left in South Africa...
1 star purely for the rugby facilities. Number 1 university in Africa can't even accommodate 2000 people at a varsity cup match
Wheelchair service at University of Cape Town are much safer, well experienced Drivers, Friendly and Working with Smile …
Such an awesome place to study and meet people from different walks of life with different views yet pursuing the same goal!!
Great facility and well resourced. Costs are very high making it inaccessible for an average south african midclass family.
Definitely lives up to its high standard and is only getting better with time. Beautiful campus overlooking cape town.
I would love to come here for my Postgraduate studies. I want to be part of that beautiful community. I'm from Ghana.
UCT is a well-renowned higher education Institution with world class facilities and a very high standard of education
Nature restoring itself after the Big burn. Bookshop has pretty good discount. Great feeling of peace and knowledge
I would like to thank the Humanities Department of Education for giving me an opportunity to study my PGCE in 2018.
Dropped off my youngest today starting 1st year studies and very happy to be away from home!!! …
University of Cape Town is one of the oldest universities in Cape Town, breathtaking views #Unleash …
It's a great place to study, you get challenged a lot...Best university in Africa and also has great views
Had a great time during the last AFRES conference at the UCT. It was at the Middle Campus. Very wonderful.
Excellent institution! Completed 4 years of study here with nothing but positive experineces and memories!
World class tertiary education institution catering to a wide range of degrees and post graduate studies.
This is my dream college, I'm still in grade 9,buuutt I am definitely going to rock that school …
I'm currently studying at UCT and it has a very hospitable and friendly environment. Only positive vibes
The beautiful Roman design is eye capturing. The stunning view is enticing and the city is liberating...
Still an awesome place to visit although some of the buildings could benefit from renovations and TLC.
Great place to meet new people, there are a couple of hidden spots and gems to find all around campus.
A true centre if Academic excellence, well built infrastructures and conducive learning environment.
Great vibe. It is a place in pace where diversity converges. With land scapes that a point of view.
Awesome place besides table mountain. Students will be refresh everyday because of natural beauty.
This university has a unique view and weather conditions along with a friendly environment.
One of SA top universities with great opportunities to learn and develop into our future
Excellent institute for higher learning. The place became unsafe during student strikes
Good education, and great campus life. Engineering faculty has been recently upgraded.
A world renowned University on a magnificent setting against Table Mountain Reserve.
Its a beautiful university to study at. There is a lot of cultural diversity there
I often visit the place for the view. Great tracks to go mountain biking and such.
