Title: Unjust Treatment and Patient Advocacy Suppression at Moran Eye Center - Cautionary Experience Review: Was a 25 year patient at the Moran, then Booted when I complained about rude staff and poor treatment. Retrograde staff & managers who put patients at risk. My experience at the Moran Eye Center in Utah was incredibly disappointing and deeply concerning. Despite expressing valid concerns about the use of a particular medication and exploring alternative treatment options, I was met with a hostile attitude from the staff of Dr. Shakoor where they sent me rude emails via their charting system. Dr. Shakoor never personally reached out to address my high level of concern. In an effort to receive better care, I attempted to transfer my treatment to another eye doctor within the center, Dr. Vitale. However after I scheduled with Vitale I received a rude & hostile phone call from a scheduling technican for where I was told Dr. Vitale would solely offer the same treatment as Dr. Shakoor, even though alternate treatments were available for my condition. This was not Vitale speaking to me, but some measely technician. Not a proper communication. Rude. Hostile. And they also added as a jab "the appointment type you scheduled was improper and thus it needs to be cancelled in any case." Another interesting point: Only after Leaving the Moran Eye Center did I discover a savings program for a separate medication that could be implanted in my eye. This lack of awareness on the part of Moran staff is highly concerning, as it suggests a lack of thoroughness and attention to detail in their patient care. Thousands and thousands of dollars in drug company money being missed out on. And again the only reason I found out about the drug savings program by the drug manufacturer was by Leaving the Moran. However shortly after leaving Moran for another practice, I received a "My Chart" invitation to return to the Moran Eye Center and self-schedule an appointment. I saw this as an "olive branch." I didn't use the invitation to schedule for over 2.5 months. However, when I used the invitation "just to see" and to maybe check out another doctor there. But then after using the invite & scheduling myself, a few days later I received an angry phone call from a Moran manager who informed me of my banishment from the entire center. Subsequently, I received a written letter confirming this ban. It is important to emphasize that at no point did I ever threaten anyone; I simply expressed my dissatisfaction with the rude staff and subpar treatment I had experienced. My unjust banning from the Moran Eye Center raises serious concerns about patient rights and advocacy within a State-Run facility. By suppressing my attempts to voice concerns and transferring my care, the center has demonstrated a lack of respect for patient empowerment and engagement. It is disheartening to witness a disregard for patient well-being and a failure to address systemic issues that put patients at risk. In light of my experience, I caution others who are considering the Moran Eye Center for their eye care needs. The Moran Eye Center, puts patients health at risk. The manner in which I was treated and banned highlights the center's disregard for patient concerns and its failure to foster a supportive environment for patient advocacy. Every patient deserves respectful and attentive care, and it is regrettable to observe these principles compromised at the Moran Eye Center. As a public, state-run facility affiliated with the University of Utah, this level of dysfunction is deeply concerning. The Moran Eye Center's practices not only undermine patient rights but also jeopardize the well-being of those seeking care.

I cannot imagine better care than I received during my most recent hospitalization. Carolyne greeted us as soon as we walked in, got me into a wheelchair and personally delivered me to the ER. There was a lengthy wait in the emergency department, but they kept me and my wife informed at all times as to what was happening. They also made the best use of that time by getting blood work and X-rays underway. Everyone was so kind, I cannot remember all of the names and feel bad leaving anyone out. There was a doctor in the ED who realized my wife was trying to close her eyes and sleep on a folding wooden chair in the corner of the transitory room; he personally brought her a larger chair to stretch out a bit and also provided a pillow and blanket for her to use - yes, the DOCTOR went out of his way to do this in the middle of the night! I entered the ER around 7:30 p.m. and at 2:30 the next day was taken to the cardiac catheterization lab for a procedure. My wife left to try and check in about 20 minutes early at the nearby Marriott (The Guest House was full) and wasn’t accommodated by them, so she returned to the 4th floor cardiac ward and Anthony told her my status and said he would keep her posted in the waiting area. The cath lab was very busy and the waiting rooms were full, so she ended up sitting in a chair by the pop machine near the elevators, but a man of his word Anthony tracked her down and brought her to my room right after the procedure. A very nice young man named David came in to talk with me post-op and I felt bad sending him away, but I was exhausted as was my wife who at that point had been pretty much awake for 36 hours except for a brief catnap pin the ED. Dr. Welt, Dr. Tuday, Dr. Brewster and Dr. Metcalfe were fantastic. Dr. Metcalfe was very personable and exhibited a caring and compassionate bedside manner while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. Dillon and Elliott were always nearby and attended to anything I needed. Melinda stopped in on the morning of my release just to introduce herself and let me know she would ultimately be handling my discharge. A medication was added and the pharmacy personnel hand-delivered the prescription and provided information and counseling in my hospital room. Melinda covered every aspect of my discharge and made certain that my wife and I were both aware of necessary monitoring over the next several days if the entry site as well as regular weight and blood pressure monitoring once at home to avoid complications. I was discharged just after 6 p.m. and stayed the night nearby ‘just in case’ before returning to my home nearly 5 hours away. Again, I cannot imagine better care and I am baffled by the negative reviews. The next morning before heading home (Saturday) my wife went to the U of U Urgent Care at Sugar House. Again, top notch and very kind and caring staff in the urgent care as well as the pharmacy. She ended up with a bladder irritation, likely brought on from dehydration and her stress over my ordeal. Again, I cannot wrap my mind around the disparaging reviews. The urgent care was larger and more competent than the local hospital where I live. For people who live in or near Salt Lake City I wonder if they know how truly blessed they are to have world-class, cutting edge medical care available in their own back yard. I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else!

This review is for surgery scheduling and urology dept. Zero confidence in this establishment. Eye opener should have been when doctors tried doing a procedure on my son that could not physically be done. If his medical chart had been read before hand, they would have known this. Why ask for copies of medical records if you’re not going to read them. Surgical scheduling dept is deceitful. His surgery was scheduled back in August. Three weeks before surgery they request to move his date because his surgeon only had his surgery scheduled for that date. He explained no, this was not possible because of work schedules, school schedules and flight plans already made. They understood and said they were looking at the day before his scheduled surgery. Fine good. That still worked for our already moved schedules. After a week and a half of telling him that they were working on it, they lied through their teeth and said he was never scheduled for the date he was scheduled for and ironically he was scheduled for the date they wanted to move him too. Now we are out money for our flight ticket and have to go through all of this again with a different hospital. I guarantee we will be doing better research of the establishment before hand and choosing more competent docs who do read requested medical records before hand so they know what they can and can not do. 12/19/22. My son has to continually call this facility to see what time his surgery is scheduled for on 12/20? He calls every couple days for a week and a half. Is told he is on schedule and will be told day before surgery. Drives from Rexburg to Salt Lake today and calls the hospital himself. Guess what time his surgery is for? NEVER! He is not on the schedule!?!? What the heck University of Utah!? Why repeatedly tell him he is on the schedule and will be called to suddenly not be on the schedule at all. Very poor establishment when it comes to patient rights and care. And the 800 number they replied below is a joke. My husband called them two weeks ago and was told they would look into all this and call back. Crickets. We hear nothing. He called back today after all this and yep. They have record that he called… he should have had a call back… he never was called back. That’s the respect they have for their patients and families of prospective patients.

I was flown from Montana to this hospital for an emergency surgery on my pelvis. As I arrived, there were 20 or so doctors in a room awaiting my arrival; which I was very impressed with. Within minutes they had all performed their duties and I was on my way to the surgical unit where I met a very friendly anesthesiologist, I forget his name unfortunately but he was great. I was then quickly carted into the surgical unit and was asked to breathe through a tube. Next thing I knew I was waking up from surgery in the ICU and the battle was on to get the Tracheotomy out of me, one of the worst experiences of my life (which was not the hospital's fault just part of the process). Half an hour later it was removed and I was able to breathe, talk, and calm down. I was then introduced to my nurse Phil, who instantly stepped in and started running the program. It was a fairly quick visit to the ICU, which I attest to Phil's professionalism and attention to detail. I would trust that man with my unborn baby. After leaving the ICU and moved to the regular hospital rooms, I was impressed with the functionality, cleanliness, equipment, view (I was lucky to be on the 6th floor with a view of the city/Stadium), amount of staff available, etc. Now, this is where there could've been a little more professionalism and communication between all the departments and teams because I ran into a lot of issues that could've easily been avoided if there was more communication/documentation of what was going on. This place almost felt like a sorority house with a little medical visits thrown in. Shout-out to the nurse Kylee for making my stay extremely comfortable compared to the other nurses/CNAs/doctors/transport personnel I dealt with while staying there. I wanted to give this hospital a 3.6 score for overall rating, but had to choose between 3 or 4 so the reason I went with 4 was because of Phil, Kylee, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeon who all made my stay/treatment top notch. Thank you guys so much for your services.

We couldn't be happier with the care my husband received at the University of Utah. We arrived at the ER at 7 pm Easter Sunday 2023 with my husband having tightness in the chest "my chest is on fire" symptom. We were back in a room in minutes. The staff was caring and attentive. The doctor ran tests, 2 EKGs, more tests as he was monitored. She didn't find anything for some time (we were there for nearly five hours, but with her diligence and retesting, she came back and said one of the blood results indicated that he had a heart attack so they admitted him to the 5th floor for cardiac. He was carefully monitored through the night. They helped me to be comfortable as I stayed with him. Everyone was personable, caring, attentive and responsive.. The doctor came in the morning and explained that he would be going back to the cath lab 2nd or 3rd in line. The team members all came to the room as the doctor explained the process and what would be happening. Within a couple of hours they rolled him off and I waited in the waiting room. It was under an hour that he was in. They ran through his right arm artery sending dye through to find out what was going on and found a complete blockage of his right coronary artery. They were able to put in two stents and open it up, the procedure went smoothly. Recovery went great as well with the team members checking up on him frequently. He was already feeling better than he had in some time (shortness of breath gone, chest tightness gone). The food was great compared to past experiences in hospitals (he even had salmon for dinner one night). The room was lovely with a great view across the entire valley. The room, bathroom and everywhere throughout was clean and everyone friendly, eager to assist and responsive. We could not imagine a better experience under the circumstances. We are in so much gratitude for his care and are so happy the University of Utah is here to serve our community. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Michelle & Greg K, Salt Lake City

My wife and I were unsure of where to go for the birth of our first newborn. We are very glad we chose the University of Utah hospital. We felt like we had an all star team in the labor and delivery, and although they were busy, they communicated with us and addressed our concerns without putting any pressure on us throughout the birthing process. My wife was very nervous for the first delivery, but her nerves were managed well by the U of U team. Particularly we would like to shout out to Kayla (with the purple bangs :)) who was our nurse throughout our delivery and did an absolutely amazing job of helping us feel secure, taken care of, and aware of what was going on. Through the actual labor process Kayla and the whole team, Doctor Nacy and many others I do not remember their names sorry, were absolutely incredible! They were incredibly motivating for my wife, and did not let her give up through the process, and made her feel like a rock star (which she is) which I super appreciated. Kudos to the labor and delivery team. Also, loved the valet parking service, that was legit. Also, we need to give a shout out to Newborn and Maternity unit. They did an amazing job of spending time with us and making us feel a little bit of relaxation and helping to calm our newborn parent nerves. Definitely felt like they helped get this deer in the headlights in the woods and prancing home with our baby. Big shout out to the whole team, the midwife who came and spent time and the pediatricians and entire staff. Another big shout out to Philip who was with us for two different days and did an outstanding job educating my wife and myself on literally everything we needed to know before going home. You could tell everyone was very knowledgeable and experienced and they spent good time sharing that with us. Two thumbs up on the experience, would not hesitate to come back to the U with another baby :). Big thank you to everyone who helped us!

I am giving this hospital 2 stars only because I had a positive experience with my doctor and midwife who were both incredible. Since that appointment however my experience has been nothing short of horrific. It's even hard to write this review as I'm currently hooked up to an IV and suffering very bad hyperemisis but the staff here has made me feel very unsafe and unwelcome. After my doctor prescribed an anti nausea medication to me my pharmacist could not find the prescription. I called the office and they said they sent my prescription to home health. So I called them and they said they weren't a pharmacy. So back on the phone with the U and they basically refused to send my prescription to the pharmacy saying home health would have to deal with it. Finally my nurse from home health had to sort it out for me as I was dehydrated and in and out of the hospital trying to deal with this. When they finally sent my prescription in it was for 1 week with no refills. I could go on forever, it has been weeks and weeks of calling this hospital. When they finally booked my follow up appointment they booked my ultrasound 2.5 hours away from my OB appointment expecting me to wait there in the hospital for that long. When i called explaining I could not physically stand or sit that long without being sick and weak and becoming dehydrated they really couldn't cared less. In fact the scheduling person threatened me saying she would be scared if she was me to cancel my appointment. I'm not even sure what she meant by that. Of course I canceled it. I can't physically even make it that early and then wait for that long. There have been so many more instances. Too many to write here. It's been such a stressful experience with already being so sick.

Not reviewing the hospital itself but the transit and pedestrian accessibility around the hospital right now. Their choice of layout and organization constitutes a serious accident waiting to happen. I was walking back to my home from attending an event elsewhere, and had to pass through the medical complex area because my usual pathway had been closed down, and there was a diversion [medical school construction]. Basically, there is no real pedestrian pathway in some areas of the hospital complex construction zone, and I needed to walk down the busy road for a bit to link up to another pedestrian route on a slippery incline. The pedestrian routes they do have are often really steep and slippery with loose gravel or sand/dust on them, and they are never demarcated with signs. Your only other option is to walk around muddy fields full of equipment or construction materials strewn about. These aspects make the pedestrian functions very hazardous for anyone with walking mobility issues, balance problems [me], wheelchairs, or anyone susceptible to getting confused or having cognitive difficulties [also me]. I did not get hit by a car or fall down, but I nearly got heat stroke because of how disorientating everything was and how long it took me to navigate around there, on an August day. I did not expect to be put in so much danger for going on a simple walk. It is disgraceful how ableist this setup is, especially since we are talking about a HOSPITAL. I do not care that this is a temporary setup to accommodate construction. The administration in charge overseeing this construction project needs to plan for better and SAFER circulation options for visitors, patients, and pedestrians trying to get around.

I had preterm contractions. They lasted all night and morning. I went in and they had me lay on my back for fetal monitoring. I was having a hard time breathing with all the pressure laying on my back at 32 weeks. They said they would bring pillows to reposition and never came back. The IV was put in incorrectly and i mentioned it to nurse jordan along with the positioning and how uncomfortable, she was very rude and said its where it needs to be. ya i don't think you were ever having contractions anyways just dehydrated. Then the doctor said we are discharging you since you aren't contracting anymore. I told them i am contacting still. It didnt stop and the monitors fell off awhile ago. When i brought up the the doctor the nurse about how she told me that this placee isn't suppose to be comfortable cause you aren't moving in and the lack of respect all the way down to no gown and open door. The nurses response to it is we've been busy thats why we didn't come in or check on you.. and we are letting you go cause we don't see contractions. Come back if your water breaks. I told her my water didn't with my other kids and this is how labor felt.. she said i just think youre dehydrated and replird verbatim .. so let's get you out of this aweful place and then you are always welcome to write a review. Jordan was the nurses name and the doctor was marcela carolina. I found out in the hospital at delivery I had preclampsia and the emergency room visit should have diagnosed me but were too busy to help me and my baby ss dr my due date was incorrect so I was further along and in real danger.

Besides the construction outside. The hospital is beautiful. Incredible art, mostly nature shots of Utah. Wide open, lovely gift shop, a wonderful piano, a Starbucks for all your caffeine cravings, a great cafeteria, friendly and helpful staff, and pretty decent doctors. They are honest and kind and take your best interest to heart instead of their pocketbooks. If the construction ever ends, it'll be a much more enjoyable experience getting to the hospital and navigating among the many different buildings. I'm a wheelchair user and while attempting to access the hospital recently I was directed by construction workers to a path that ended in a gravel pit which I got my chair stuck in. I was right outside the main enterance. None of the construction workers offered to help. None of the security guards nearby even acknowledged my presence. None of the people driving passed spared a second glance. Only a single good samaritan was willing to help and it was a woman who, combined with my weight still didn't outweigh my wheelchair. We had to break our backs to dig out the rocks and push my chair up an incline by ourselves when a single construction worker could have done it with ease. Hospitals should be accessible, always. It's unacceptable how dangerous this construction work is to pedestrians and especially disabled patients needing care. There should at least be one designated safe pathway and or sidewalk to the main entrance of the hospital. Not having this puts lives at risk.

I had a procedure performed last October (2022) to remove bladder calcification and stones. Dr. Summers is an excellent MD and I am confident he did great work. However, when I call the office there is always a runaround. Usually I don't get past some secretary who answers calls, and I don't know who will call me back: general office staff, untrained "Tech," Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant - or just whom - IF they call back. And such staff may or may not really understand the issues and just give pat answers or generalized responses. The doctor is insulated from his patients so much that it appears the only time you can ever talk to him is when you show up for a pre-procedure or pre-surgical examination and then at an "official" post-process appointment. When his staff returned calls, I couldn't tell if they had actually talked with Dr. Summers or if they just responded based on their own knowledge; to me that is a seriously deficient practice. If I thought I had a question requiring only a response from someone below the level of the MD personally I'd specify that when calling. I simply changed MDs, in a different medical system, for followup and future urological needs. I want a little more personal consideration and if the doctor is too busy to provide that then he's too busy to be practicing clinical medicine and he's not the doctor for me.

Although the website gives some guidance during construction, parking is an absolute nightmare. Take public transportation or a Lyft! It says the valet is open 24/7 365 days a year. It was full and closed at 4:30 pm today. I cannot stress enough how chaotic the traffic/parking is during construction. It took me 35 minutes to get out of the parking structure. Study the websites helpful hints, and have someone drop you off. On admission to the emergency room, my daughter was given emergency surgery and all went well, great doctors and nurses. The next day it seemed communication broke down. One staff member thought she was to be discharged, one thought she was waiting for surgery unrelated to her condition and another didn't know and was8 hours to see a doctor. I'm not dragging medical staff, I'm saying communication needs Improvement., At least in her case. Lastly, my daughter holds 2 advanced degrees and works very hard. But she likes tattoos. She was issued a prescription for Narcan for some pretty weak and small amount of painkillers. Her husband ripped off his Achilles tendon and was prescribed OXYCONTIN, no Narcan.. same hospital. Questionable. Great staff.Dont get me wrong I'm eternally greatful to all the Doctors, nurses and staff for saving my kid. Just because you've seen a lot of the worst, don't judge a person for their tattoos

Several times I have received calls from collection agents for bills I never received. I pay everything I owe and I pay it on time yet these mystery bills keep showing up in collection! Very annoying. Avoid if possible, the emergency room is unreasonably slow. I might choose to bleed out instead of going here. Enjoy your 8-12 hour ER visit no matter what. Check in and wait for a couple hours. Have your vitals taken then wait another couple hours. Every step has hours in between and its not necessary. Other ER's are managed better. Billing person comes in and asks you questions, wait another 2 hours. See a doctor for 5 minutes then another two hours, etc. Doctors have lied to me on different occasions. Insurance, profiteers and political pressure have too much influence. All treatment is subject to those whims and not what is best for the individual patient. Be educated and take an active role in your healthcare. They are basically a monopoly and it's very difficult to find medical care or get a second opinion from someone that is not affiliated with the University of Utah. Not all bad. The cardiology department is one of the best in the world. Some of the doctors are top notch and most of them are doing the best they can. Nurses are pretty great and treat people well. Staff are friendly and helpful.

“If the workplace is toxic, then they can’t deliver the care you deserve” An employees review: I think pay is fantastic if you are full time along with advancement opportunities. Breaks are okay not the greatest. My biggest concern is cliquey management and co workers that will harass you and get away with it. I have personally experienced harassment from a co worker who made fun of my religion of choice, has called me inappropriate names, made fun of where I grew up and would publicly humiliate me in front of patients, and cause work drama with me and another employee who use to be my friend. Also have overheard workplace racism. This is suppose to be against every policy at the U but apparently management thinks this kind of behavior is acceptable because of their favoritism and could care less about workplace bullying. Management likes to preach about these issues without actually fixing them. They do this so they don’t have to answer to someone that’s in charge of them. Any manager at this hospital that sweeps serious problems like this under the rug, should be fired. I do not recommend working here if you are looking for a job or maybe if you’re a patient seeking care. Not worth your mental health as a worker or patient.

10 days after giving birth to my daughter, I had a ruptured brain aneurysm and a stroke leaving me paralyzed from waist down. I had the absolute BEST experience in this hospital given the situation they made me feel safe and I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Grandhi, Dr. Speed all the nurses (I wish I was alert enough to remember everyone’s name who helped me) the physical therapy ladies all were absolutely incredible and I am so thankful for these individuals who I truly feel saved my life and kept me as comfortable as possible while I was going through the worst and most painful experience of my life. I spent about a month in this hospital from the icu to the physical therapy side at the end of my stay. I am beyond grateful for everyone who helped me! THANK YOU ❤️ today I can walk and even run/jog take care of my babies independently and the only reminder I have of this happening is the nerve pain in my right leg/foot. And occasional migraines. But I am alive and doing really well!

I have been to almost every emergency room in the state, and I will tell you NOT to go to this one! I wouldn’t even give it one star Please seek care elsewhere. I was here 10 years ago for a migraine, and I was SHOCKED at how rapidly it has declined! I will try not to go into the boring details. I went to the hospital because I had tested positive for Covid, my oxygen is low, and my BPM is extremely high (in the 150’s). The staff was unconcerned and inefficient. I was there six hours, saw the doctor once, and only received one bag of fluids (despite being deeply dehydrated). I also received my results on mychart hours before anyone came to see me. Once the staff changed, I received a new doctor, who would have given me more fluids, but by then I just wanted to go home. If you want to place to give you the care that you need, stay far away from the U of U hospital. Since coming home, I’ve heard nothing but horror stories. I wish I had known how terrible the staff was before going.

Had to go to the ER a couple of time because of a dog bite. The first time it was pretty much fast and easy, but the second time I stayed there from 11 AM to 7:20 PM which is crazy even though only like 4 people where ahead of me when I got there, but somehow they didn’t have any rooms available until 4 PM which is when they transferred me inside to give some vaccines and some blood process. It would be 3 stars but I’ll give it an extra one because the staff that I met was extremely helpful and made me feel good all the time, the person from the finance department as also really nice asking me for my personal data since it was my first time there and made sure to reassure me telling me that I should not worry about the payment and that they’ll give me the best price based on my situation. Hopefully, I don’t have to come back lol (meaning that I don’t want to get sick or injured like this again). But if I do, I’m sure I’ll be on the right hands.

My mother had an ED visit at the U of U South Jordan clinic due to severe abdominal pain. They ended up transporting her in an ambulance to the U Hospital because she needed an emergency surgery. When I tell you that the surgeon Sarah Lombardo was absolutely disrespectful. She literally laughed at my mom while she was in server pain. My sister and father complained and told her that it’s not professional to laugh at her patients. And that she made my mother upset. Then she literally walked out the room. Like a dam teenager throwing a fit. My mother was so upset and in severe pain and left because they took my mothers pain like a dam joke! Endless to say! We are here at St. Marks because she went unresponsive and she is having emergency surgery to take her gallbladder out. The U of U Hospital is a joke! And Dr. Lombardo should be more empathetic and respectful to her patients. You’re a doctor! That’s also part of your job!

Honestly I feel like one star is too good for this place. My 31 year old niece has a rare lung disease. She was sent to the ER by her specialist. Her husband and two young sons ages 2 and 7 months old, drove her to the ER. When she went to go check in she gave them the paperwork from her specialist and told them that she has a lung disease and couldn’t breathe, her chest hurt and she was positive for Covid. The nurse checking her In “SHERI” told her it was going to be a 7 hour wait and that Covid didn’t matter anymore. Oh and it gets better. Not only did Sheri not help my niece who was struggling to breathe. O2 levels in the 70s and 80s. She called security and had her removed from the hospital! I’m a nurse and cannot fathom this kind of mistreatment towards anyone especially someone who is struggling to breathe. Then to have security remove her! I’m appalled

My husband was brought in to emergency after falling and splitting his head open and scans showed that he had a brain bleed he was in neuro intensive care for a couple of days and the staff there were excellent especially Cameron. Now they have moved him to neuro acute care and it is horrible here. I called this morning about 10:00 to find out about his condition and the lady who answered said she would have his nurse Emily call me back but she never did so after an hour of waiting I drove up here. For lunch he was only brought a sandwich with no drink or sides and I pressed his call button and asked Emily if he could get a drink and maybe some fruit and she said yes I'll go get them and bring them back and she has not come back and I'm really disgusted with her and this unit so far. I don't want her back as his nurse.

My wife went in for the initial appointment at 6 weeks and got the flu shot. She was told i was okay to take it, even with them KNOWING her history with miscarriages. Went in for a 10 week check up on my baby. Dr. Jennifer Trauscht-Van Horn pointed out the heart beat, but there was zero audio, and a glare on the screen. She then hurry and stopped and said "you will have to take my word for it". around 13 weeks my wife was showing blood, so she went into the ER since it was later at night, just to find out my baby stopped growing around 6.5-7 weeks. Van horn LIED to us when she said she saw the heartbeat! my wife had her miscarriage, and had been carrying around a dead baby for over a month and a half! She is lucky my wife didnt die! I do NOT recommend this doctor as she doesnt care about anyone nor their health!

  • Heidi Nerden

The staff treated our daughter horribly! They would not keep up on her meds causing her pain to spike, then tell her to deal with it. she had bodily fluid splashed in her face & in her mouth. The aid denied it had ever happened. Then made up a poor excuse for it happening. After treating her like this, it was found that there was additional issues that were causing pain. Too bad the nurse would not take the time to find out. She seemed to feel just coming in and checking the box that she was there was enough. check marks are numerous! If I could give a negative # of stars I would. I know every stay is not like this. the last portion of the stay was 100% better. This is an amazing hospital. Every place, every experience are good & bad. The U is generally a great experience. Not this time however.

If I could give the Urology Dept. 10 stars I would. I was in recently for a complex surgery that few doctors in the nation do. It required numerous appointments, lots of phone calls and emails, seven weeks of prep work, communication with many other providers in my state, the surgery, a U of U hospital stay, two weeks in U of U housing, and all of the follow up. I cannot say how impressed my husband and I are with the professionalism, efficiency, compassion, respect, knowledge, and talent we experienced during this very difficult journey. In addition to Dr. Myers, his team, and others in Urology, the U of U Housing Dept. and the nurses, CNA's, and others during my hospital stay were incredible. Billing has also been wonderful! In my situation, the U of U really did save my life.

  • Bekka Rigby

have never had more problems than I do with U of U. 3 years in a row I have gone there for lab work for my yearly checkup. All of which is paid in full by my insurance. For all 3 years, the billing has been screwed up. I've had to contact them and work with my insurance company multiple times to get it billed correctly. I NEVER have this problem with any other labs using the same doctor's office and insurance. This year as I was trying to get it taken care of they submitted my bill to collections and now are telling me they won't do anything more with it. It's nearly $700 that should have been covered and they are not willing to help straighten this out at all. Oh, and they have stated they will take it out of my tax return next year if it's not paid.

This Hospital saved my life....Our family vacation in Rexburg Idaho in the sanddunes turned into a tragic event. If not for the flight for life team and the trauma center in Saltlake City I know I would not be here writing a review today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the doctors or should I say teams of doctors, nurses, and all students on my case. I came in with collapse lungs both, a broken collar bone, my L1 L2 in my back was broken, and a aortic dissection that was ripped from the inside out &all the way from top to bottom. Dr. kumpati you are a heart magician. 10 days in a medical comma I can't believe I survived this and still here 4 years later. Thank you to all who was any part of my survival.

My father came in because he has stage 4 cancer and he was having horrible symptoms. The evening staff made us feel like every request or question was an inconvenience to answer. Like they had better things to do then assist him. He was rarely checked on and to top it off they asked us how we would like to proceed. If we wanted him admitted or not. We were like tf. Where is the provider and what is her/his recommendation. It was very irritating and their bedside manner of all staff that worked with us was very rude! I work in the medical field and this is unacceptable! I know how stressful this environment can be but some of these people don’t need the rudeness to add to their situations!

I have to give them 5 stars for speed I had a surgery there and 35 minutes they took me in and put me under never been to a place that fast surgery took less time then they projected. 2 star for insurance and billing they wouldn't allow payment plans so I had to come up with 10k before they performed but that is alright. I would give a minus 5 for patient care they operated and then booted out the door no follow up after surgery it has been 7 months since my surgery and still haven't even had a follow up visit or call to discuss the surgery results I've been kicked back 3 times when I try to make a follow up appointment to test if the surgery worked and everytime I get pushed back.

  • Unknown unknown

I had my surgery done by this place 5 years ago. I was treated like an idiot after surgery because they thought I made up rare condition and I ended up staying there 2 days extra. Their ability to communicate with each other is DISMAL. One thing that I was very upset is that surgeon added port to my head WITHOUT informing me before hand and casually mentioned it in followup checkup. I guess all they cared about is doing the work, no communication is needed. You have opinion? Who cares? Something important for them to know? They ignore. I am so so glad I did not go to this place for different surgery.

  • Jazziie Redd

I had my baby here this week and the entire time I felt very well taken care of. The nurses here are the very best. I went in for an induction and Chandra took care of me and my husband all night in l&d. Making sure I was comfortable and encouraging me thru the hard moments. The maternity & nb team was awesome making sure my pain was controlled and my son was taken care of. I didn't feel ignored or judged at all. The discharge process was kind of frustrating but they got us out as soon as possible. If I ever have another baby I'm definitely coming back.

  • Michael Roy

The roads to and around the entrance are an absolute embarrassment. They are literally bumpy dirt roads at the moment. The middle school dropout in a hard hat and safety vest yelled at me because I couldn't understand his arm flailing while leaving the parking structure (there is only one way out, he made me turn around and go back into the structure...). I'd cut them some slack, but I looked up what the finished product will look like and it's pretty bad. At least when it's paved you won't have to be bounced around when you're freshly out of surgery.

  • ian neville

spent 13 hours total in the ER and never saw the same person twice. While all the staff were friendly and competent, my diagnosis should have been straightforward and all the testing was standard. There is clearly a big issue with the efficiency of their system to the detriment of the patients well being. Also while i was there a man who had been discharged had his wallet lost by the people who had taken it to store it “safely” in a locker so id give them another 1 star review for him if i could.

  • Kaitlyn Pond

The staff are very friendly and kind, I absolutely loved the diversity. But they did lack efficiency and they were understaffed. They had a hard time staying on top of meds and the nurses weren’t acquainted with the kind of injury I was dealing with during my stay and so they were not able to help me to the best of their ability. Overall the hospital is quite nice and very good. If they had more staff then it would most likely be a 5/5.

  • K Lola

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. Extremely Unprofessional Staff are very inconsiderate on the night shift. In an area where people take meds to sleep the staff and the foul mouth rent-a-cops are loud obnoxious and rude. MORE LIKE A BAR ENVIORMENT. When you request help they ignore you and make fun of you in front of you. Do not come here for treatment or compassion. Too bad so sad i was told. -F score on my secret patient services.

  • Remmy Erickson

My mom was having health issues and was rushed to this ICU. It was blood related and for some reason one of the doctors thought it would be a good idea to give her a blood thinner. She started bleeding all over. She was eventually diagnosed with Grave's Disease after she left the hospital and the following year her heart gave out. I wish we had better means of diagnosing and treating these types of illnesses.

  • Jae Choi

Two years ago, My wife went for treatment, but their medical team couldn't cure her. The medics couldn't cure the bad bacteria in my wife's stomach. The pain doesn't go away. Nonetheless, medical bills are exorbitantly expensive. Usually, if a service or product does not satisfy the consumer, it can be returned, but why did this hospital send the hospital bill when it could not treat the disease?

  • Frank V

If you are healthy enough to be actively mobile don’t park here took me 40 mins to just leave the parking garage at 4pm on a weds. Park far away and walk or Uber it. It’s a shame the traffic delays the construction is making I don’t think I have ever waited 40 mins In my car to leave a parking garage even living in the nyc area for 30 years. Hope they figure this out soon.

  • Mike Denman

I am disappointed in this Hospital tonight. My Daughter had surgery this afternoon and they rushed her out of the hospital 2 hours after she recovered. She is now sitting in the Emergency room at another Hospital getting fluids. Things that she should have gotten in the 1st place. I will be making sure that the Ambulance and Emergency room bill will be going to them

  • Elizabeth Braymen

We've been to this ER three times in the last eight years, and each time we were taken in quickly and the staff was professional and kind. Two of the visits were just last year, and with all the changes since COVID my expectations were not high, yet I felt the care given was very considerate and reassuringly thorough. We are so very grateful to the U of U Hospital!

  • Amadeo Escobedo

Whoever is managing the Impatient Pharmacy is a terrible person. My partner works for them, and they're going in for surgery in October and the hospital is trying to deny them medical leave? What do they think is gonna happen? That's a humongous lawsuit if they were to come into work after surgery, as they're not even supposed to be moving. You guys are so stupid.

  • Cindy Johnson

Do NOT go here unless you plan on dying. The U of U used to be the best care you could get. That has drastically changed! The care is deplorable. The nursing care we have received in the Surgical ICU is the worst I have ever witnessed! If you are not with the patient 24 hours a day, nurses unnecessarily sedate them to keep from being bothered. Do NOT come here!

  • Geoffrey Layton

This is the worst ER I have ever encountered. If I was bleeding to death in front of their hospital I would go some place else. Their staff seems to be completely clueless. No one we talked to seemed to pass on any medical history Each doctor and nurse had no clue about patient history. Their staff is exceptionally rude and careless.

  • Farah Faruque

I recently had to go to the hospital a few times and met 2 separate doctors for counseling. Both of them were really nice and attentive. They took time to explain me everything and answer my questions. The general areas were very clean and hand sanitizers were available every where. The staff I interacted with were very friendly.

  • Phil Bossert

Tess was an amazing doctor. My experience there was encompassing and kind. Aubrey drew me pictures at night and I’m very grateful, it lifted my spirits. Tess and Aubrey rock! As much as I don’t want to be in the hospital again, if I were, I’d want the same staff looking after me. Thank you so very much!

  • machele karpowich

There is no communication from staff to family, my husband went through an 11 hour surgery I was with him for two days after and had to return home, for work, I thought he was in good hands. They have not given me any information on him, except he is stable they won't tell me what the Dr is saying.

  • Ammara Rashid

It has always been a great experience at U of U hospital. All my 3 kids were delivered here. Staff is so cooperative and caring. Very professional. They go extra mile to make you and your visitor make feel comfortable. They are surely in the top 10 best hospitals all over the Nation for a reason.

  • Amber Gardner

I left my drink in the intake room and a staff accidentally threw it away when my mom was getting labs and one of the nurses went above and beyond and got her a new drink and she was so nice the whole time and treated us like family. I believe her name was Shelby nicest nurse I've ever met

  • Linda Lindeman

The cardiology department head doesn’t do what he says and thereby we have been in the hospital waiting on one test since Tuesday and once again it had been postponed to tomorrow again. I guess tomorrow never really comes. I am very disappointed in a world renowned hospital be this poor

  • Jessica Meeks

The nurses and staff were all so kind and helpful. I feel like the doctors that I saw were actually invested in my care instead of just trying to get me out the door. Night and day experience compared to IHC as well. If you have a choice, go to the U and avoid IHC like the plague

  • Jamie Fortune

Worst ER experience ever sat their for over four hours spitting up blood only to ask the person at the desk how much longer I'm told well maybe one to two hours. Do not go to the ER unless you have no other choice, you will get the run around and get nothing in return.

  • Mike Ray

Some nurses are nice some are just not understanding labor and delivery nurses and doctors in and out hardly rest but they rush they like you to rest but unable to trying to pump while maid mopping and tugging the pump machine with the mop.

Terrible and disgusting! I 100% would not recommend this hospital. I was sent over from huntsmans cancer Institute for surgery. Surgery 5/30/23 the first and only statement received from U of U 9/20/23 the following month on 10/16/23 I got

We had a a MRI pre authorized. The hospital billing has been very unprofessional even rude unwilling state there name after being extremely disrespectful. Now we be we are being threatened to have wages garnished even though insurance has

  • Jingwen Tang

I have no concern about the hospital, but the construction that is going on around it is crazy. We were driving in circles for 25 minutes and constantly got stuck in traffic, but couldn’t find our way going into the hospital. It is right

  • Susan Merrell

I would like to give the nurses at this hospital 5 stars because they were truly angels after a serious auto accident. In contrast my husband's bill was so riddled with false billing and fraudulent charges that when we got the insurance

  • Chansey Eames

I have never felt so frustrated in my life. My father is currently fighting for his life and was transported to the U of U hospital. From the very moment he arrived the experience has been far from impressive. The staff is the absolute

  • Cody Brower

My girlfriend went here for a concussion and j. marthis or something was the rudest most inconsiderate doctor who belittle her for being late in a snow storm and told my girlfriend she has 20 minutes with a serious concussion and when

  • Mal Obayashi

My daughter went to the ER for chest pains, light headed and irregular heart beats. They did some tests and then made her wait for hours with no response. She was basically told she's not a priority and to go home. HORRIBLE HOSPITAL!!!

  • Jordan Mcconkie

Had nothing but a bad experience with this place dr grudziac and her whole office is a joke you can't get anyone to talk to you they tell you to get on my chart but they don't even reply on it I wouldn't waste your time with them

  • Audrey Tran

Makes all employees pay for parking. As a multi million dollar company you’re really going to make the people who make you money and care for your patients PAY $1,000 a year minimum for parking? Talk about corrupt capitalism.

  • Bandar AlYami

I conducted a medical interview at this amazing hospital. It is well organized, advanced medical center that ranked in quality as 1 of the top 10 hospitals in the nation with multiple world brilliant mind doctor.

  • Ethan Hawk

do not have your baby here they are terrible, our baby was born premature and failed her car seat test 3 times and instead of sending her to the NICU they sent her home. They could have killed her. …

  • jah regal

Some of the people care not all and not the ones you need to I lost function in my leg totally preventable but whatever policies and no accountability I wish I had chosen intermountain healthcare

  • Victoria Elizondo

Terrible working conditions. More concerned about EDI than the health of their own employees. If that’s the way they treat the staff I’d hate to be a patient. I’d give 0 stars if I could

  • great london

Absolute lack of clarity and transparency when biking. They have you go through this very complicated process of calling their billing department and providing all sorts of codes.

  • Baz khan

Worst service ever. I can’t believe this is an emergency room. All the nurses and staff are laughing walking around and not caring about the patient dying from the savvier pain….

  • Jennah Barnhart

The L&D staff treated my husband and I with kindness, as if we were family. The care received, on the hardest day of our life after losing our baby, was above and beyond.

  • Andrew Perla

I always get treated very good by all the staff and doctors. The emergency department really needs some help though, more rooms and not as long of lines.

  • kelbessa chala

My workplace is at the u and this is a good place to work. My sons came here they have good staff and nice staff their floors are very clean
