I’ve been weighing up whether I should leave a review, but hair is so important that I really think people should know what they’re potentially in for. I had neurosurgery before first going to Adnan 18 months ago and he was SO lovely as I sobbed in his chair while he very respectfully worked around my scars. I asked for a “vibrant, dark purple”. I’d been box-dying my hair for years so I was fully expecting him to tell me the purple wouldn’t be so noticeable. Instead, he said he would bleach my hair and apply the colour to make it more vibrant. I asked if it would destroy my hair, he just said “trust me”. Huge mistake! After bleaching, he mixed the wrong colour and blamed me for not listening to him about what he wanted to do. What? He just didn’t have the colour I wanted and it was basically the same colour I went in with, just a bit lighter. It wasn’t even close to the colour I wanted and to make matters 10x worse, my hair was destroyed! There were also ridiculous bands of colour because I’d dyed my hair with box dye for so long that… I later found out that’s what happens when you bleach someone’s whole head without any care or doing a patch-test. After pointing out the banding at the time, he just said he couldn’t see it. I can’t even describe how bad it was - it just broke off every time I touched it and brushing it left me close to tears because the breakage just got worse. I dyed over it with a darker semi-perm dye to get the colour even-ish, which worked for a while until of course it faded out. So thinking I would just cut my losses and that I was partly to blame for the bleach by not standing my ground about the bleach, and also for the kindness he showed me that first time, I went back and asked him to cut my hair into a bob and start again (no dye!) as the haircut the first time was ok. I also pointed out all of the banding colour in my hair - at first he said he couldn’t see it, then blamed me for putting semi-permanent dye over what he’d done originally. When I say this was the worst haircut I’ve ever had, I mean it was laughable! I had fried, curly hair and a blunt cut so my hair looked like a pyramid over my head! I asked for a bob, sure. But just TELL PEOPLE what they’re getting themselves in for and they will compromise! You MUST be able to predict outcomes after all the years you’ve been doing hair. Adnan, I write this review because 18 months later I’m still trying to undo the damage you caused by frying my hair and the money it’s cost me to maintain it with regular cuts and products. I wanted to grow my hair out, but working with a new hairdresser, I have to maintain it short until the damage is cut out - there’s no way around it. Please, please listen to your customers and maybe take some top-up classes because you have caused me so much distress. The 2 stars is for the kindness you showed me the first time I came in. I so appreciated that, thank you again. Sadly it’s not enough to not warn others because as I said, hair can be so important to people and your blasé attitude and gaslighting frankly sucks.

Based on the reviews and pictures I was optimistic to try this salon after moving to the area however left genuinely embarrassed to even walk to my car with my new haircut. I joked with the owner, Adnan, how nervous I get to have my hair cut given it is curly and I’ve had my share of bad cuts (which I didn’t think could possibly get any worse, only to be proven wrong). I asked for long layers to suit when my hair is both blow dried and left to dry natural, only to be left with some layers almost as short as to my ears and others 10cm below my shoulders. I am well aware that styling curly hair is no easy feat though Adnan didn’t condition my hair after washing or place any product in to style it before diffusing. I made a comment that it can be very frizzy at times (whilst looking in the mirror at him attempting to style it) to which he responded ‘it’s not that bad but would look nicer if you blow dried it’. The first photo was taken in the car immediately after leaving the salon and the second is showing the terrible layering post me getting home and styling it properly. I just can’t understand how a hairdresser could leave their client leaving the salon looking like the first photo. I was really hoping for a great new salon but have been left almost in tears begging my old hairdresser to fix my hair the same afternoon after I visited this salon. I’ve had to cut off an additional 15cm and pay an extra $100 to fix the appalling cut from Adnan. I’ve never, ever left a review before but would hate for anyone else to experience this. I’m so upset.

I've been a client of Adnan and the team since Urban Hair and Beauty first opened (in fact, years before) and I have never been disapponted or had a bad experience. We all know that when you find a great hairdresser, you stick to them, and that's exactly what I've done and will continue to do no matter how far away I live in Melbourne. Adnan always listens to me, gives me the best and honest advice about my hair and genuinly cares about ne leaving 100% happy - and I always have. I've seen Urban Hair & Beauty's new employees, and the way Adnan takes them under his wing, teaching them everything he knows and supporting them through new clients. I'm extremely fussy with my hair and always need to talk about the colour/cut/style and not feel rushed. Adnan always makes the time to listen and I'm always confident with his advice and trust him completely. Not only is the experience great but the team brings my hair back to life in every appointment with the best products, treatments and colours. I always walk away with the best shampoo, conditioner and home treatments. I always get compliments on my hair and I tell people its all because of my amazing hair dresser and his team at Urban Hair & Beauty. I'l never go anywhere else.

I attended this salon due to such high ratings and it was a mistake. Adnan cut my hair and it looked very poor as per pictures. I asked for an asymmetrical bob and ended up with blunt hacked at layers that I didn’t want and the back with a random triangle hacked out along with uneven chopping on all parts of my hair. The back is so short it’s considered a pixie cut rather than a bob!! At the end of the cut, I was visibly not happy and Adnan was saying this style had to be styled as a messy look with product, even though I do not style or use product EVER! I wash and air dry and was left with an absolute disaster. I had to get the haircut fixed by the good staff at KAS hair. I had to pay double for one haircut after this experience and even though I emailed the salon giving them a chance to speak with me and make things right, my email was ignored. Very distressing experience as you can’t hide such bad and short hair. Would not recommend

I wanted to fix my already dyed hair that was naturally very dark brown with splotches of blonde that I wanted fixed. Adnan decided to bleach my whole head and dye it sliver. Not at all what I showed him in my reference photo. He told me to come back and use other expensive products but I’ve never hated my hair more and it was not cheap. My hair is now dry and straw like. And I look stupid as a platinum blonde when my hair is normally very dark. I only wanted highlights. I’m so sad.

I actually visited this salon on the say-so of the great reviews. I am SO glad I did! I went in with longish hair; showed Adnan a pic of how I wanted my hair, and he certainly nailed it. I am beyond happy. The whole experience was really enjoyable. I will definitely be returning when my hair is due to be cut again. I’ve only been to 2 hairdressers my whole life so trusting a new hairdresser was no easy task. I tried this place out due to its high ratings and must say it is well deserved. I loved the haircut Adnan gave me and it was exactly what I wanted. He’s so efficient, it took only about 20 minutes including the hair wash. Very affordable as well. The entire staff is so friendly and nice. I’ll be a regular from now on.

This salon was recommended by a family member and friend however I was still nervous as my hair colour can vary with different products and I had only ever been to the one hairdresser which I could no longer attend. Adnan was amazing and obviously very experienced. Consulted me during the entire process and I walked away extremely happy and will return regularly from now on. Highly recommended.

I had the most amazing haircut here! I’m really funny with trusting people to cut my hair, so I was very nervous about getting 3 quarters of my hair cut off with somebody new. Always a relaxing morning getting my hair styled at Urban Hair. My teenagers and I have been going there for years - pre-2015 Zoe and now Adnan always gives us plenty of attention and they remember how I like my coffee!
