Took my girl there today after my other dog bit her last night. I was really nervous and feared being judged because I didn’t bring her in immediately when it happened late last night, but also because it was my other dog that did it. And in all honestly, the wounds were worse than my husband and I believed it to be initially. She herself is also a very nervous dog at the vet and today she was especially scared and nervous. I was really happy with the care she received and the compassion the entire staff had. I love the open concept that they have and the fact that I was able to be by her side when they were debriding, cleaning, and stitching her wound. I didn’t feel judged and felt like they loved her even though she wasn’t too thrilled to be there. And even if they didn’t love her, at the very least they genuinely just wanted to care for her in the best way possible. Everyone seemed happy to be there and like they enjoyed their job which means a lot in this type of work. They were upfront about the costs and gave me options, and gave me genuine opinions on what they felt was needed versus what may not be entirely necessary. Although it was expensive, it’s well worth the money knowing that there is a 24 hour center that I can trust with my dogs. I’m hoping we won’t need emergency services again anytime soon, but I would come back without a doubt. Also, we spent about 3 hours there which I think is great for an emergency clinic that had quite a few other guests

If you love your pet as family, I cannot recommend VEG. Their disclaimer, you can be read in other posts and questions, is they will not give advice. One of my two cats was put to sleep there 6 months ago. This past week we went to VEG with our second, very sick cat. I noted in this second experience that most of the dialog seems scripted. I received conflicting information from two or more vets there in that I was be told one thing and 15 minutes later would be told the opposite. They conveyed that our cat was too sick and we needed to consider quality of life issues which means put her to sleep. Once we made our decision, they pushed in the opposite direction and back into the terror. Hours later my son and I could not stand another minute of the incessant agony we felt and all the giggling and laughing in the background. One of the vets spoke at me loudly each time like I was deaf or daft. I asked questions but got evasive responses, then loudly asked if I have anymore questions. The same vet cold not keep the sex and age of our 15 year old female straight. None of this seems right. Our cat is carrying on almost normally at home now but it is obvious the end is near. They told us she could pass at any time. She received no real treatment or relief, besides a glucose injection. She gets all the treats she wants now and we will be with her when she passes. I've lost faith in veterinary medicine. Seems like a racket to me.

VEG in South Tampa is worth the drive from Valrico. They were so incredibly kind, caring, gentle, and efficient in an emergency situation with our 15.5 year old, 70lb dog that ingested many things she should’t have. They took the time to explain everything they were doing and gave us options about her care. They gave us different estimates as well as pros and cons for keeping her overnight as well as taking her home. We chose to keep our dog there because we could see they were going to make her comfortable and give her better care there than we could give her at home. Although I had to pay up front for the higher estimate, Dr. Sparks called first thing in the morning just as she said she would, to let us know how well our dog was doing and that she could go home as soon as we could get out there to pick her up. They refunded us quite a bit of what I had already paid because she was ready sooner than they had estimated. That was almost as big of a relief as our dog being almost back to herself. Our visit at VEG could not have gone any better. They were wonderful! They are also far cheaper than other ER vets I have been to and we would love it if they would open a location in Eastern Hillsborough County.

My nine month puppy was recently hospitalized at VEG South Tampa for 2 days, and while I am not one to typically leave reviews in the first place, if I could give this exceptional team more that 5 stars I would. Throughout the entirety of his hospitalization they allowed me to stay right by his side, sleep with him, walk him, and comfort him. This team not only provided an exceptional level of care to my dog, but they went above and beyond to ensure we were both comfortable and happy at all times. They explained each and every aspect of his care to me and were transparent and honest in every aspect, from his health to the cost. Most of all, watching them work with a variety of animals over the course of 48 hours I can confidently say that they provide the same love and care to your animals that you would, wether you are there by their side or not; and for that I will continue to choose VEG South Tampa for my animals emergency care time and time again, and would highly encourage the same to anyone in need.

Our Rosie needed emergency surgery for bladder stones. It was a scary situation that of course popped up a few days before Christmas. It completely sucked forking up so much money. You’re gonna pay…man are you gonna pay. Can you put a price on that unconditional love, those greetings at the door no matter what, those goofy zoomies? We would have been devastated losing her. It was a matter of life or death in our case. They saved her no doubt. She got extra special extended care over Christmas and they maintained communication via text, phone calls, and we even got adorable Christmas greetings. They even decorated her kennel. We were allowed to visit anytime and took her on short walks. Rosie is home and continuing her road to recovery. I hope we don’t ever have to go back but if we need emergency care, we know where to go. Thank you Dr. Davison, Dr. Smart, Dr. Downey, Dr. Daubert, Dr. Moses and staff! You all probably saw Rosie at some point and we appreciate you taking such amazing care of her.

My 6 month old puppy has been having some GI tract problems on and off over the last month or so. They turned bloody and scary this morning and I remembered VEG after driving by their facility a million times in the past. I called them and they sent over intake info almost immediately and took us straight back to care for my puppy when we got there. Everyone was so kind, understanding, and personable!! I really love that you get to stay with your pet while the staff formulates a plan and that they do everything in front of you. I wish most vets had this practice. They also walked through every single charge with me in detail before doing anything to my dog instead of just giving me a huge number to pay at discharge. I’d recommend this place to anyone in need of emergency vet care! The vet taking care of my puppy was Dr. Thomas, the nurse was Manny, and the receptionist was Bonnie. They were all amazing and so was everyone else who helped!

Last night I had an urgent situation with my cat (I’ll spare you the details-he’s ok now) and drove a half hour here because of the great reviews. When I walked in, they took me to the back, and examined my cat, came up with a plan, and worked with me on just doing the necessary tests, and explaining the WHY. This office lets you stay in the room where all the animals are staying and being treated because they have a strong preference to not separate the owner from their pet and being very transparent. They were amazing! Everyone was so kind. I especially want to thank Bonnie at the front desk. She talked at length about how this is the best company she has worked for and how much they care. She gave me recommendations for things and chatted with me while I anxiously waited. She was one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever encountered at a vet office and you can just feel the kindness radiate from her. I highly recommend this location.

Honestly the only peace of mind I have when something pops up with Enzo is the fact that between Gandy Animal Hospital and Veterinary Emergency group they are always there to take care of him. Every single time we have had to come to the clinic they have given us such a better feeling than when we got there. I know they care for the animals they take in and see. I have never had to wait very long for Enzo to be seen especially with how little and fragile his body is, sometimes time matters and they take care of him right away! Yesterday he got a little nick and they hopped right on it! He had to wear a cone for a bit but by the time we got home he was such a strong boy he wasn’t licking or in any sign of pain so we took it off and it’s healing nicely already! Thanks guys! You’ve made lifers out of us (all of us!) don’t want to say see you next time but if we do, we’re happy it’s you! Mindy, Dennis and Enzo

I brought my pup into VEG after she ate an entire bag of chocolate covered espresso beans. So scary. VEG was absolutely the right place to bring her! Everyone who helped with Rosie’s care for the 41 hours we were there was so so so incredible. Even with staying overnight, they made sure we were so so comfortable and continuously checked in on us. Everyone truly went above and beyond to make us as happy and stress-free as we could be under the circumstances. Rosie got incredible care and you could tell the doctors and techs really were invested in Rosie’s recovery. Shoutout to the following insanely amazing people: Dr. Baden, Dr. Davison, Dr. Merritt Chris M., Patrick, Lexie, Chris R., Crystal Carol & Kat & the rest of the VEG staff that helped with Rose! Everyone was so so so hospitable (no put intended) and kind to lil Rosie and to me. Thank you guys so much! Extra shoutout to Dr. Gabos as well!!!!

My puppy Sampson decided to eat something he wasn’t supposed to and ended up having emergency surgery Monday evening. We ended up at Vet Emergency Group in South Tampa and I could not be more thankful and pleased with the experience there! Everyone there is so welcoming and kind and they made a really stressful situation a little less stressful. You could tell Dr. Baden and all of the staff there really enjoy their job and care about the animals! They allowed me to sit and hang out with him prior to his surgery for as long as I wanted and then i got to snuggle with him for several hours while they were weaning him off all the meds so we could go home. (They even offer bean bag chairs to make you more comfortable) He’s now home and resting comfortably. If you’re ever in need of an emergency vet in the Tampa area I would highly recommend Vet Emergency Group in South Tampa!!

I'm delighted to share my fantastic experience at this veterinarian office! Dr. Baden and her outstanding Veterinary Technician, Rachel, went above and beyond to provide exceptional care for my beloved bunny, Winston. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication were evident throughout the entire process. Dr. Baden's thorough examination and thoughtful treatment plan put my mind at ease, while Rachel's attentive and gentle approach made my bunny feel comfortable and safe. I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding care they provided not only did they end up helping us avoid surgery but they saved my bunnies life! Something I will be forever grateful for. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone seeking top-notch veterinary care for their furry friends!

South Tampa VEG is amazing. If you call to get advice on an issue with your pet, you will be transferred directly to one of the on-duty vets to get a professional opinion. You can stay with your pet the whole time you are there if you wish. They treat your pet where they feel comfortable. If bowser wants to be on the floor, the vets and staff-get on the floor. My girl had to stay about 18 hours and was being taken care of by 3 doctors during that time. Each doctor updated me timely on the status of my girl and what to expect next. It is a bit of a drive for me to get my girl there, but I cannot imagine taking her or any of my pets anywhere else in an emergency situation. Well done Dr Smart. Your team is top notch.

Everyone here made Paisley feel safe and loved. She was having complications from her Pyometra surgery and needed to stay overnight. They make sure you are seen immediately with a sense of urgency and care. They allowed us our own comfy room with tons of blankets to keep her warm. Constantly checking on her vitals to make sure she was getting better and stabilizing. Picked her up today and she is doing so much better, can’t thank everyone there enough. Receptionist went out of her way to explain payment options and helped make every step easier. Techs and Doctors were all incredible! Truly trust them with my little best friend and so happy with my entire experience at VEG S. Tampa

We want to start by saying thank you to the amazing staff that took care of our boy last night. You guys were absolutely amazing! Our Bully is home and back to his normal healthy self. His brother Gizmo was so happy to see him since they were born they have never been separated for even a couple of hours so once we got home he snuggled with mommy and his brother in bed and now he’s back to his crazy self. This hospitals staff was the best I’ve seen they were kind understanding and very patient. I pray we have no more emergencies but if we do they are our first stop thank you guys! We love our boy and you guys truly made us feel at ease. Thank you, Sarah, Jay, Bully, and Gizmo

I had taken two of my pets on separate occasions a few months ago and both times we were seen immediately. The first was my cat who had a bladder blockage which was an emergency. They helped provide the best care and allowed me to continue care at home since I am a nurse. Felix had a rough 2 weeks but back to his normal self! And Freya our chiweenie had a possible back injury/ IVDD flare up. Again, we were seen quickly and she was given pain meds which significantly improved her pain level. After 2 weeks crate rest at home she was back to her old self. I love knowing they are close by, open 24 hours, and are always friendly and respectful. Thank you again!

Needed emergency care for our small papillon dog in the wee hours of Sunday morning after he was attacked by 3 raccoons right outside our front door when he was outside to pee. It was very frightening for him and me! VEG staff were excellent in providing care and treatment above & beyond my expectations! I am truly grateful of the expert care and concern provided for our dog (and me!). I also witnessed their professional care and concern to another couple who were there for their sick dog. I was impressed. Prayerfully we never need VEG services again but if we do we will definitely use them. BTW - our dog is recovering & doing great!!

I took my cat Chance here when he needed emergency care, and the staff at VEG immediately made me feel comfortable leaving my baby with them. From the call answered by the receptionist, to speaking with a doctor on the phone, they had already made me feel welcome and secure before we even got there. Dr. Moses, the night staff, as well as Dr. Gabos and they day staff were incredible, I cannot say enough good things about them! They made a scary situation feel somewhat bearable. I feel so much better knowing that I have a place I can trust if Chance ever needs emergent care in the future!

Don’t come if you can’t afford a second opinion. I took my 8 yr old small dog in because she has a small seizure the night before, she started walking around and acting happy 15-17 seconds after it started. Couldn’t do anything for her, didn’t offer medication nothing, suggested allergies and hinted at my dog being dramatic. Not a month later my baby died while I was sleeping due most likely a second preventable episode. Do with that what you will. She had no other medical problems in the past as well. Not a second goes by when I didn’t wish I took her somewhere else

I came in very afraid because I tried to medicate my cat at home and she started foaming in her mouth. I was scared. The staff was very sweet, and helped calm me down. You could tell they truly cared. My cat who has an anxiety problem already, was behaving very well in their care. The receptionist was amazing and got me back quick. The doctor was so sweet and loving with my cat. I would highly recommend this hospital for anyone with an emergency for their pet. Not only do they care for your pet, they care about its parent too. My baby gives them 5 stars too.

  • Destinie Batacchi

I was recommended here today to have my cat checked out asap! She was suffering from upper respiratory distress. She was diagnosed with cancer/ heart disease and from there my heart was shattered. There was nothing I could do to save my beautiful kitty! This vet was so caring and did everything to make us feel comfortable to even making sure we were financially okay. I had to put my baby kitty to rest today. Thank you to the staff for everything you did today to taking care of me and my 2 little girls with broken hearts!

My husband brought our dog in yesterday and he had to be admitted for a some time. He received SUCH good care here! They told us we could call as much as we needed while he was admitted to for updates or visit whenever we wanted. The techs were so sweet and gentle with our elderly chihuahua and it put our anxious minds at ease knowing he was loved while receiving such great care. Thank you so much to the Vets, the techs and the receptionist that helped us through all of this. Definitely recommend!

I can't say enough good things about VEG & the staff there. I have never felt more comfortable & calm in an emotional & chaotic situation. It's so clear that every vet tech there is in the right career field. They treat your animal like their own. Ember got just as much love there as she does at home. I felt comfortable to ask any question that crossed my mind & always got a clear, helpful answer. Truly a safe place for your animal & you. If I could give them more stars I would!!

  • Lexi Resnick

Definitely the best ER vet for animals!! This staff is absolutely incredible, so caring and sweet. My pup suddenly stopped peeing and I brought her in to VEG. We got there, and were welcomed right away and taken back to be seen within a minute of being there. I was able to sit with Lola the whole time, making her I was by her side. They took such good care of her and were able to find what was going on super fast! I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else.

I can’t express the gratitude I have for Dr. Merritt and Dr. Thomas as their independent evaluation actually found the cause our fur babies acute illness. They promptly received her symptoms so that a plan of care could be established as she was in need for a procedure. If it wasn’t for this place we may have had a completely different outcome. Any future emergency needs for any of my fur babies will be here.

Game Changer ! This Emergency care center goes beyond the call of duty. Dr Gonzalez & Dr Sparks, staff members Rhiannon,Amanda, Kay & Janet were all so accommodating, knowledgeable and caring during our time of need with our cairn terrier Lola. All Vets and staff are always accessible, this made such a difference. TRUE caring professionals. A MUST visit place when our pets are in need of loving medical help.

Absolutely amazing care during such a terrifying time. They took such good care of my baby as soon as we walked through the door and were there for both of us every step of the way. The entire team was so helpful and kind and I couldn’t have asked for anything more during one of the worst days of my life. If your pet has an emergency please take them here and you will not be disappointed!

We had such a great experience with our dog’s emergency! I called them when I was on the way with our Dog that tried to eat a cane toad and they were waiting for us at the door.
