Excellent art exhibitions and openings. The range and quality of the art is compelling and they showcase paintings and drawings of a fairly wide variety of media and genres, including digital graphics, as well as sculptures and occasional installations. An inclusive and diverse atmosphere, this society has evolved over time and kept pace with technology. The team here have done a great job fundraising and Richard has taken up leadership with an excellent predecessor in Eileen. The heritage-listed gallery has in recent years undergone intensive restoration and upgrade with thanks to private, as well as public, funding. Staying true to the historical significance of the building whilst modernising it to greatly improve the amenities, it now includes a lift for greater access, mobility and inclusion of more diverse visitors. Dame Nellie Melba taught students singing here and oft stood on the balcony to perform to crowds who gathered on the footpath below. It is a pleasure to be part of this community and enjoy the works of both local and international artists, of which we can't help but be immensely proud of. The real sweetener at this gallery is no entry fee but becoming a member has its rewards not the least of which is being part of this community. Or you can donate to support the importance of art as a healing activity.
The VAS run classes staffed by dedicated and experienced artists. They have many exhibitions throughout the year showcasing local artists of high calibre. One can hire the Cato gallery for a reasonable price. A lift is currently being installed for disabled and elderly patrons. Close to the city it could be an interesting addition to a brief visit of Melbourne, though regular visits can prove fruitful.
A great place to enjoy and purchase art from local artist. They organise a lot of exhibitions so there's always something new to look at. You can also sign up to art classes and come to free painting demos and other events. I think the rooms are for rent for corporate events too. It's just a few minutes walk from Parliament station. Great building, great history, great art.
Many beautiful pieces of artwork. I couldn't complete it on my first trip without being late for an appointment that day. So maybe if like me you take time to understand each piece of art, keep a good 3 hours available. I couldn't quite understand the some of the stone work. Maybe a printed description would be useful.
Great exhibitions and art workshops and classes. Art galleries recently renovated. I joined in last year as a member and enjoyed the inspiration and art classes with experienced artists. Need marketing to attract younger generation artists and to support better sales of high quality art works.
VAS presents to the public and artists brilliant opportunities to explore the history and current immense talent of those artists who have been and are recognised today as the best in their field.

This grand lady is a delight whenever you visit. The architecture is fantastic and the art is always high quality. There is a lift for the disabled to get to the top floor, but there are still stairs at the entrance. You should subscribe to them to find out when each show is on.
A part of our Art history, this little gem is tucked away on Albert St behind The Eye & Ear hospital. A beautiful old building recently refurbished that showcases students' & practising artists' work. Lots of classes available in different mediums too.
I have been here to study oil painting for three semesters and I would say this place is fantastic!I feel so lucky to have Greg as my first painting teacher to guide me the way of art. Painting is my best meditation now and I enjoy every moment here.
A gala event, graced by many active artists. An event not to be missed as it showcased the artist of the year over the last 50 years.

An iconic historic place for art lovers. This was a hub for the Heidelberg painters like Frederick McCubbin, Arthur Streaton etc - definitely worth a visit.
A beautiful historic building housing a community of living Melbourne artists mainly portraits landscapes and interior vistas. Beautiful exhibitions
Beautiful historic building containing a few small galleries with modern art. The pieces on display when we visited were great.

Excellent 2021 Shot In The Heart Of Melbourne (SITHOM) exhibition. Missed it greatly in 2020 due to Covid-19.
Every time I visit here I love seeing the works by local artists. Stunning building and display areas.
Came in today on a whim, quite lovely artworks to view, the people in there were super friendly.
Rather small, rather expensive paintings, but a little window into yesteryear. Quaint.
Beautiful building, wonderful art, an oasis on the fringe of the CBD.
Freshly renovated, nice and light and with great vibe for artists.
