I’ve never written a negative review for a business before but then I’ve never received service this bad. Whilst shopping in the Bristol store and choosing a can of bubble tea from a fridge with a broken handle the door slammed closed on my 9 year old son’s hand, splitting the end of his finger and leaving him bleeding. The manager begrudgingly gave me a plaster but didn’t even ask if he was alright despite him screaming in pain. When I asked him why he had a dangerous fridge housing all the children’s drinks I was told ‘You can’t complain about that because other fridges have sliding doors’. No other fridges have slammed closed on my son’s fingers. Your complete contempt and indifference to a child being injured by a piece of equipment on your premises is astounding. I have shopped here for years but as I told you, you have lost a customer. I appreciate you don’t care as you shouted ‘Yeah, thanks, bye’ in a childish voice as I left. What an embarrassment for the owners of the business. Wah Yan Hong states on its website ‘We strive for continuous improvement in customer service’. I suggest they address the appalling attitude of their staff immediately or remove this claim.

Wah Yan Hong is the ideal supermarket for shopping Asian stuff. It’s walking distance from city centre and the location is quite nice. The place is usually not crowded with people so you can shop to your heat’s contend. Having 15% off for any purchase £10 or above is definitely a lifesaver for students. The staff members there are really friendly and they can speak fluent Cantonese, putonghua and English. They are more than willing to offer you any help regarding Asian food or culture. For instance, I asked them how can I make tofu and they provided me with a homemade recipe. You can find a wide range of products here, and you will definitely not go home empty-handed. (Even if you don’t have anything in mind to buy initially) I think this is so far the cheapest store to buy Asian goods. The shop itself is very spacious and tidy so you can find the desired items easily. I have been there twice and I’ll go there again. Trust me, this is the only shop you want to go for Asian goods, the others are way too overpriced.

Great little asian shop... They have everything that i need and stock many specialist items, they sell so many ramen quick noodles that are great for a snack, went in today and they have even the hot spicy noodles that everyone on youtube are doing as a challenge... As a chilli head i do most certainly approve haha they stock loads of frozen seafood and meat and lots of Indian spices, as well as Thai spices and Chinese spices... They have a good range of cold drinks options and fresh vegetables, such as bok choi, choi sum, oyster and enoki mushrooms, fresh beansprouts and mooli for pickling... They have a extensive range of canned goods and sauces and oils and have a range of steamers and other culinary tools as well as bowls and plates staff are friendly and polite and its not too over priced for something situated in central Bristol my first stop if and when i fancy any Asian ingredients... Which is well... Coming from some one who has been to Asia! ✌

I love this place. It's great for staples for Oriental cooking, with a wide range of sauces, snacks, drinks, meat and fish and even a freezer with frozen dim sum and more. They also sell selected fruit and veg at great prices (a huge bag of beansprouts for around 35p!), and I love going in there just to browse the wide variety of different products that I've never heard of. They'll also happily explain things to you if you ask, and help you to find what you're looking for. Things like rice are available in catering sized packs, and you'll also find a range of cooking and tableware including woks, bamboo steamers and chopsticks. A little gem of a place, tucked away out of site down a little back road.

Well stocked and friendly! This is the first Asian speciality supermarket I've ever visited and I can't wait to come back regularly. They have everything you could want from ramen noodles, a wide variety of Asian drinks I particularly recommend the coffee ones, cooking ingredients snacks, fresh/frozen the list goes on! I highly recommend the coconut chocolate mochi from the freezer section it's the best we've ever tasted. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful my younger sisters had a brillant time wandering around the aisles picking snacks and a Japanese tea set which was a highlight of their holiday, can't recommend this supermarket enough if you are in the area you need to visit.

An excellent store offering a wide variety of food, drinks, kitchenwares and various miscellaneous goods, located in a slightly quieter part of town. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the products were of high quality and reasonable price. Most of the range is centered around Chinese and Korean products, with some Thai, Japanese and other imports also present. Definitely worth a visit for anybody interested in South-East Asian cooking and eating. Also, the K-Pop and J-Pop was a nice touch for a bit of atmosphere!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Fresh produce are always high quality (e.g. fresh vegetables, tofu, noodles, and so on). Long shelf-life items are always honest (nothing beyond used by date, etc.), unless otherwise stated (e.g. a week out of date and therefore on special discount). Long opening hours. Reasonable prices. Good range of products- seems to be mainly Chinese, Indonesian and Korean. Would be handy to see more Japanese products.

A friendly, family-run business that has been here for many years. Always a good selection of food and drink available, as well as cooking tools and kitchen appliances that are hard to find in other shops. As the vast majority of products are imported, it isn’t cheap, but this is to be expected. Well worth a visit if you’re looking for interesting snacks or something different to create in the kitchen!

Possibly the largest Oriental supermarket in Bristol. The prices were very reasonable, and the staff have been very helpful, even giving cooking advice. The boss has also been nice. The staff speak at least both Cantonese and English, as far as I know. If you are a student, don’t forget your ID if you’re buying over £10 worth of goods - wouldn’t want to miss out on the 10% discount.

The shop size is decent. The goods are responsibly spaced, felt comfortable walking around in there. The staffs are very friendly and polite. However, goods are overpriced compare to the other Chinese supermarkets in Birmingham & Manchester. Maybe that's the price to pay for such convenient location at Bristol town centre.

  • Aulia Dewantari

A pretty big asian supermarket in town. I love that you could get sushi rice here, which I prefer, rather than long grained basmati rice. Numerous selection of all kinds of sauces and spices. Sells meats as well, such as the thinly sliced meat for shabu2. Also sells asian cooking appliances, steamers etc.

  • Alex Mayger

Great selection of groceries from all across Asia. We always go in on a whim looking for a specific item and they have always had exactly what we are looking for! We always end up picking up something we weren't looking for as well due to the amount of unique items. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

  • jessie leung

Good range of Asian groceries, kitchen tools, from freezer to fridge items all in stock. They offer 10% student discount for over £10 purchase so it’s very good. There is also a customer toilet and a restaurant next to it. Convenient location and you can park outside there’s a few on street spaces

  • Belly Of The Byson

Went there with my girlfriend on a off one and my food was lovely however, her rice dish was quite a disappointment, was rather soggy and a bit of a let down tbh. I'm willing to give you guys another chance because the customer service was amazing. Maybe we can turn the 4 to a 5! …

  • Habiba ElKholy

Love this place. It's huge and has a big selection of affordable noodles. I can find everything I need and usually for a cheaper price than most local Asian supermarkets in the area. And they also do 10% student discount when you spend more than £10 …

  • Alex Compton

Took my first trip here yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of stock they have at a reasonable price! Also, wonderful customer service from the young gentleman who served me yesterday and I will definitely be back to buy more goodies :)

  • michael lennon

I can only atest to how great this place is to people largely unfamiliar with Chinese/Far Eastern culture. In that respect, its one of my favorite stores in town, packed full of curiosities at reasonable prices. Plus the staff are friendly and helpful.

  • David Lee

I don't know what's going on. Maybe it's my background but I have seen a LOT of Chinese/Asian grocery stores/supermarkets open up in the last few years. I'm not saying that this is bad but they do vary in customer ambiance. This place seems ok.

  • Peter Cheung

Big oriential shop located in centre. Selling different kind of products from veg to frozen food and cookware. They offer student discount as well. The only sad bit is that the entry has a few step not suitable for people who use wheelchair.

  • Shaney Orrowe

Excellent source of Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese ingredients. Conveniently located (if a touch hidden). Good range of teas, sauces, snacks, noodles and rice. Also has some fresh and frozen produce, plus baked goods and chilled drinks.

  • I W

If you're shopping online, please double check your order weight, especially if you're ordering rice! Anything over 10kg is overweight and incurs a hefty overweight charge. They charged 5 pounds to cancel an order. Ridiculous!

  • David Brown

reasonable range of Chinese and Korean foods, it's a bit tucked away but well worth finding, staff were helpful. All the packets etc I looked at also had English on them which helps in finding new things to try.

  • James Lilwall

A good centrally located east Asian super market, bigger than some of the others on park street and in the centre but not as big as the store out by IKEA. It’s also quite expensive in comparison to others.

  • Nick Johansson

Massive quantity of asian food products. Good assortment of ramen. Wah Yan Hong even offers a durian! Sometimes you can find amazing discount on snacks and drinks. Friendly service and clean environment.

  • Shaun

Good range of choice across all Asian food, ranging from fresh to frozen. The central location is also good although this means prices are a little more expensive than some other places.

  • Mark Na

It has a merit with 10% discount for university students. But you have to present the U-card to get it. And it has diverse ingredients and items from mainly China, some Korea and Japan.

  • Willow Squibb

Amazing place! The people who run it were lovely and very helpful. Everything was in a nice space and not all over the place. Definitely would recommend going if u love Asian culture.

  • Haley Davis

Amazing selection in the heart of the city. I got all the ingredients for my favourite Thai dish Pad Kee Mao for £12 and I reckon I can make it twenty times!! Friendly service too.

  • Kat Harrold

The staff here have always been really friendly and I usually find what I'm after and more! Great spot for picking up ingredients from across South East Asia and vegetarian goods

  • Chimi Chu

Lots of asian food, herbs, drinks, etc! Great service! But they are not wheelchair accessible. So it's hard to go there alone while bringing your son in a pram.

  • Edward Metcalf

Small but central Chinese supermarket. Reasonable selection. Handy if you are going to eat at wongs though which is practically next door x

  • George Swift

You name it, they have it! Excellent shop with friendly staff. Good times! 2023 update: still a brilliant store, highly recommended!

  • Tameem Jamal

Michael is a legend! Best customer service ever. Very friendly to students and most of the Oriental ingredients are available here.
