GTS tower, Sampigehalli take back to the history of over 220 years. The Great Trigonometrical Survey of India. Launched by the Survey of India, the GreatTrigonometrical Survey (GTS) was an exercise in comprehensive geographical documentation. Its first leg charted an east coast to west coast path starting at the seashore of Madras, passing through Bangalore and ending at the coast of Mangalore. A few artefacts installed for the epic survey still exist, albeit in various stages of dilapidation in and around Bengaluru. Sampigehalli Intermediate Triangulation Station is one of them. Britishers decided to launch the survey, the first baseline was drawn between Krishnarajapuram and Agrahara. However, post ground work, this baseline was abandoned due to a technical error and then British surveyor Col Lambton, who was instrumental in the survey work, was transferred to Madras where he subsequently started the official survey work. However, the Bangalore survey was the first field activity of Col Lambton and marked the start of a 110-year mapping exercise of the country. In 1868, the survey team conducted one more baseline survey near MehkriCircle to Hennur-Bagalur road. While the end points of this baseline of Lambton have been destroyed, the subsequent baseline measured in 1868 exists to this day in the city. But these historical points remain mostly unknown except to a privilegedfew. While the south-west endpoint at the Kempegowda Tower near Mehkri Circle has a stone plaque announcing itself, the north-east end point, a little on Hennur-Bagalur Road, is in a state of ruins. What ought to be aplace of pilgrimage for every science and engineering student is unknown to even neighbours in adjoining sites

This is the Sampigehalli Auxiliary GTS Tower built in 1800 by Col. William Lambton as part of the Great Trignometrical Survey which resulted in inch-perfect maps of the entire sub-continent. The land has been handed over to a private educational trust. The 223-year-old structure is being demolished. History is being wiped out. It's a very picturesque place on the banks of Sampigehalli Lake. A walkway to the top could be built and it would be a nice sunrise and sunset viewpoint. And history would be preserved too.

good for sunset and sunrise view point you can enjoy the view on the elevated rock its a quarry with water pond ,and also its very interior, so a little unsafe when you are alone public transportation is little difficult, so bring your own vehicle. if you are using the public transport, make sure you leave early from view point, so there is a bare chance of getting cabs/auto.
Good place for viewing sunrise and sunset. Basically it’s a rock quarry which has a single elevated rock and a Ancient Well kind of a thing on the top. Other than that there is nothing special over here. Climbing is little risky. Moreover it’s deserted and not safe. Ideal place for Photo Shoots. …
Awesome place to visit in the early morning (6am--7am) or in the evening (5:00pm - till Sunset). It has one monument - Watch Tower on top of the Rock and you can see beautiful lake one side and sunset on opposite side. Note: Plastics banned here. Hence kindly do not carry any plastics.
Amazing place, crazy sunset point... It's not that difficult to climb to the top.. . And the green grass which u see on the bottom is lake , so please be careful. Don't do anything stupid
Only remnants of what was once a GTS observatory can be seen, sadly most of it has been destroyed with time and quarrying Atleast hope this structure remains for years to come
Calm and quite place to be with yourself away from the busy life of banglore
