Webb Bridge, an iconic structure in Melbourne, embodies artistic design fused with functionality. Its sinuous form, resembling a skipping rope or a serpent, captivates with its uniqueness. The bridge, adorned with shimmering blue lighting at night, creates a stunning visual against the cityscape. Architecturally, it's a marvel, employing steel and glass in a strikingly organic manner. Functionally, it serves as a pedestrian and cycle bridge, seamlessly connecting Docklands to South Wharf. Its curvature and thoughtful design provide a serene pathway over the Yarra River, offering picturesque views of the surrounding areas. The integration of public art, notably the "Sky Veil" by Robert Owen, enhances the bridge's allure, engaging visitors with its beauty and symbolism. Webb Bridge stands not just as a thoroughfare but as an emblem of Melbourne's commitment to blending art, architecture, and functionality, enriching the urban landscape and offering an enchanting experience to all who cross its path.
Been almost 3 years living in Melbourne, this is the first time I went to this place, Webb Bridge. Located in Docklands, for architecturally I think it’s quite beautiful. We thought we can pass through by car, but actually, it's only for pedestrians and cyclist. Webb Bridge resembles a fishing net, perhaps a throwback to the heritage of the Dockland that the bridge connects. In fact, the artist imagined the bridge as a Koori eel trap. Koori is an indigenous tribe native to this part of Australia. Have you been to this bridge? #webbbridge #melbourne #docklands #localguide
4.5 star rating!? Are you all kidding? It's cramped, 50% of the time the surface is knackered or under repair, if there's even a mist of rain it becomes a slippery mess, and the squiggle at the end reduces visibility and causes pedestrian vs cyclist collision near-misses constantly. Sure, it's pretty, but first and foremost a bridge is supposed to be functional... I'll begrudgingly give it two stars because once you learn to be ultra cautious while using the bridge it is a fairly convenient connection.
A magnificent architectural bridge which provides picturesque method of access to & from Southgate to Docklands. With great wheel chair, bike and of corse pedestrian access. The views of Docklands and Southwharf are very nice and walking across this bridge gives an air of excitement. When you arrive at the south side you are within a couple of minutes able to reach DFO and south Wharf promenade, a very nice public area to visit.
This bridge is well-designed and it seems more intriguing at night. It connects the docklands, the head building of ANZ to part of the South Wharf DFO. It is extremely convenient and you can walk past the bridge to walk along the bank trails or the Yarra river alongside the DFO and the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Also, this place has got some history to it’s design and infrastructure. Check out to know and it’s a defo to visit.
The Webb Bridge is one of Melbourne's most beautiful pedestrian bridges. This bridge on the Yarra River was modeled after an Aboriginal fish trap. This is a great spot to catch the sunset or sunrise. The scenery is pretty much beautiful no matter the time of day. The bridge is a short walk from Crown Casino. Alternatively, you can catch tram 70/75 and get off at Docklands Park/Harbour Esp to walk to the bridge.
This bridge has an unusual web design and was interesting to use to cross the Yarra River, however, it does not rate as a must-see in Melbourne. It affords pleasant views of the river and surrounds. We pondered whether the bridge was incomplete, or the buliders tired of creating the web pattern! I have subsequently read about its "progressive disintegration" as part of the design!? If in the area, take a look.
Perfect place to watch the sunset with an elegant view of the port and bolt bridge. Moreover, the way the bridge is built is really something worth to watch, as the name suggests its a real webb bridge. It's little busy during evenings with cyclists and people. The nearest metro station is southern cross station which is only a 5 minutes walk, you can also take a free tram from the city to visit webb bridge.
Further towards the mouth of the Yarra is the Webb Bridge, a work of public art that adds a bit of spark to the South Wharf district. It resembles a fishing net, perhaps a throwback to the heritage of the docklands that the bridge connects. In fact, the artist imagined the bridge as a Koori eel trap. Koori is an indigenous tribe native to this part of Australia.
Really interesting and attractive footbridge. It's not straight across like a regular bridge but rather has a big S shaped curve at one end. A bit like walking through a tunnel as it is reminiscent of a woven fish trap. Used by pedestrians and bikes so keep your eyes open. It is kind of famous, featuring in advertising and promotional material regularly.
The last connection between the north and south side of the river Yarra. Looks realy beautiful and night and you have a great view of the yacht harbour, car bridge and CBD. It's pretty safe walking around here at night. I was there at 1am on my own and I felt safe. Sometimes there are some Asian fisherman, but they're busy with their own game.
NICE WAY TO CROSS THE RIVER IN SOUTHBANK Webb Bridge has separate pedestrian and bicycle lanes so you can stroll across without fear of being mown down by a cyclist :) Great views to the city, riverside and a Docklands. East walk with very little slope so should be OK for most walkers. There is also a wider lane for wheelchair access.
Not sure how people are impressed with this at all. Mixing a bike lane with pedestrian lane then splitting and later coming back together... It's not big enough and forces peds to walk on the very edge when cyclists come through at high speeds. Making it straight would've been so much better that the disturbing "art" that it is now.
Its a beautiful awesome bridge, you are visiting Melbourne and you are from India then its is the must visit place for you. Many bollywood songs shot here... i can remember Saif and Kareena dancing here. For all its a place for photography with awesome view. Lovely view ... love to see People do kayaking on colourful kayaks.
Great bridge. One of my top 5 pedestrian bridges locally (only top 40 internationally.) popular with wedding photographers so watch out unless you get your kicks photobombing anxious couples like I do - then wait your turn! Connects both south and north sides of the river, and is popular with commuting cyclists.
First walk across the Webb Bridge ✨ stunning views like out of a cinema! ❤️ Yarra River truly is an extraordinary work of nature but what’s more remarkable is the creative innovation of Aussies to blend an architecture’s usefulness with allure and style worth checking out if nearby
It’s a pedestrian bridge. It’s got a nice design, the best time to visit to actually get to fully appreciate it is at night. It is clean and it is lit very well. Best to be with someone at night though, it’s not a bad area at all but it is devoid of people on most nights throughout the year.
Great for photos, this is not the perfect bridge by any means. It crushes every one together at one end and doesn't help the other end with a pedestrian crossing no one pays attention to. But it is great for video, especially 360 and vr images. We love to use this bridge for some cool ideas.
Beautiful bridge with great patterns for you who want to take picture. When I went there, there was a wedding photoshoot, such a lovely couple. Come here during the day for beautiful view of the buildings and boats or during the night to get the view of the amazing lighting.
Little disappointed for bridge it self however the surrounding and views are really beautiful. Getting a parking sport is difficult in DFO bt thats the best parking you have near by. Hopefully they will extend the web over the full bridge that will make it more attractive.
A very pretty bridge, easy to get to from anywhere in the city. This bridge offers some beautiful views of the city at night and during the day the Yarra River is filled with boats passing below. Best times for photos would be 6-9 am and then in the evening 8-12pm
Beautiful place that I will defintely recommanded people go especially if you wanna have a lovely night with your partner I went there when it was about 11 p.m.☺ So is kinda late and not many people are there as well really amazing and fabulous …
Webb bridge connects one end of the South Wharf and the Docklands. It is well accommodated with stairs and seperate trail for cyclists and wheelchair accessible. Also the view of the Yaara river with all the yachts parked in the evening is a beautiful sight.
The view of Webb Bridge is amazing. The view is enhanced after dark as the effect of lighting comes alive. The best way to see this and many other bridges is to book a river cruise from flinders street and enjoy the scenic views from the ferry deck.
Very interesting bridge, worth visiting if you're close by. Looks amazing in the evening. Has great views of the river and surrounding area. Nice and local to inner city is a plus. No cost of entry, this is a free attraction. Highly recommended
Great spot to catch the sunset or at sunrise when it's super peaceful, I have always admired the bridge for its architecture. Also a great place to go for a walk, a bike ride or even a kayak! Looks beautiful at pretty much any time of the day.
Beautiful bridge... A great way to cross the yarra River with beautiful views of the port with cruise and cool tall buildings and another road bridge far away.... It is beautifully designed depicting the fishing net of the aboriginals...
A beautifully designed bridge. At night time it looks amazing. I got some of my best sunset shots from this bridge. Street parking is available on the Docklands side. This bridge directly connects Docklands to South Wharf / Southbank.
While there’s no shortage of bridges over the Yarra at the southern end of the Melbourne CBD, the Webb Bridge is perhaps the most architecturally interesting. Taking an organic shape and folding back on itself in lieu of the standard
This bridge is really cool, go there at night for an amazing view of a bridge off in the distance, the bridge has pretty lights. You can also see a killer sunset from here, their are often a lot of photographers on this bridge.
It’s a bridge to get you across the river. Would t classify it as a tourist attraction. It can also be a bit dangerous on the south end with bikes often coming close to hitting pedestrians due to a poor set up at the start.
Super cool pedestrian and cyclist friendly bridge that connects Southbank with Docklands. You can get some amazing views up and down the Yarra River, along with some opportunities to see some stunning sunsets
I always come down here to catch spidey hanging out. If you come at sunset you just might be lucky enough to see him. Or her? This bridge was built in 2003 by Robert spidey. He told me about about the
A definite visit for any touristers. 1 - for the architecture 2 - photographic opportunity with the Docks behind. Can spend a decent 30 minutes at the bridge and go for a coffee at near by Cafe.
Night view is very nice from southside of yara. Pedestrian path and cycle paths are separated on this bridge. No other motorable vehicles allowed on this bridge. We saw a bat on the palm tree.
Nice from far away, for both day and night time. But bicycle lane isn't well-designed, the ground material is always damaged despite numerous repairs, metal structures are partially rusting.
I am still surprised when people don’t know about the Webb bridge! Designed by Robert Owen in 2003, its shape recalls Aboriginal fishing traps. The bridge gives its best during night time!
Cool looking bridge, watch out for bikes as it's a shared space. Say hello to the two bears at one end too. A great place to find some afternoon winter sun in, at times, chilly Melbourne
How can one review the bridge? spatially a pedestrian one? Well, okay, it makes not bad subject to photograph but only at night or really early in the morning and that's about it....
Webb Bridge connecting the old to the new , great views of the Yarra River and a great place to explore In Docklands with so many bars and restaurants . Definitely worthy of a visit
Please take note you cannot view the new year fireworks from this bridge. Apart from that this is a beautifully designed bridge that adds to the beauty of Docklands landscape.
Very nice sculpture, it's a good walk with good views. I'd recommend going in the evening or at night. Good with friends or family. Or maybe a romantic walk for the couple??
It's a solid and intricate bridge design that serves a good purpose of moving foot traffic through southern Melbourne which is something I greatly advocate for since it is
It's a beautiful bridge made in the shape of a traditional woven aboriginal fishing net. The lights at night are very sweet. View from the bridge downriver is lovely.
Love the Webb Bridge some amazing pic opportunities as well during sundown. They tried to improve the pavement years ago though and just made it worse. Such a shame.
A visually appealing bridge designed to resemble an Aboriginal fishing trap. It is a pedestrian & cycling only bridge crossing the Yarra to the DFO from Docklands.
Just randomly found it via Google maps, not well known maybe? Great photography spot, it had rained the day I visited, looked stunning under the reflections.
Beautiful when lit. It would be even more amazing if the entire bridge was webbed and not just only one section. Close proximity to South Wharf DFO.
One of my favourite bridges to take a photo of. Beautiful early in the morning or at night. Watch out for the cyclists during work commuting hours!
It is a very beautiful bridge. The design is really nice, moreover, its place where salam namaste movie's song " my dil goes hmm" was shot …
A unique bridge in Docklands and very popular in this area. Bridge gives amazing view of the docklands and good place for photography.
I first saw online photos of the bridge and they look extraordinary, but when get there, it looked very ordinary, a bit dissapointed
Beautiful Bridge. Great view of Melbourne skyline. A happening place lots of tourists and plenty of food places around these bridge
It's a very innovative way to cross the bridge and reach the other side of the neighborhood. Great place to click pictures …
A bridge with style - stunning views of the Yarra River and nearby Docklands. Easily accessible by pedestrians and cyclists too!
Excellent very photogenic bridge for crossing from Northbank to Southbank in docklands. Pedestrian and cyclist shared pathway.
passing this beautiful bridge on my way to DFO south wharf nice view and convenience to for walker or ppl with bike
Quite a place, loads of cafes and restaurants nearby, one can enjoy with family or alone just admiring around ....
You can take some decent photos of Docklands on the bridge, the bridge itself it's also a good photo opportunity.
A very popular place for photographers and tourists. It's a very unique bridge and looks great in photos
Great spot to take an amazing sunset photo - and makes getting across the Yarra a more pleasant stroll.
On a still night with no wind the Web bridge is a excellent place to photography for reflections..
One of the places in Melbourne to take good pictures , Bollywood movie Salam namaste was shot :)
Super pretty place to get some nice photography taken and watch the sunset or sunrise
I mean it’s a bridge and one with a view, gets you from one side to the other.
A bridge in Docklands. Wait until 9pm to see the lights turned on
Ease of access & a great view!
