September 9, 2023 West Edmonton Coin & Stamp (WECS). Gross Incompetence and Disrespectful. I thought I had purchased a gold coin on the WECS website with my credit card. It went through just fine. WECS contacted me and said a credit card is not allowed for this coin. My order was canceled by WECS. WECS said to purchase this coin, I must resubmit the order and do an e-transfer payment. OK, I searched for e-transfer at Charles Schwab Bank. Nothing, no information. Called WECS and they said…oops…sorry, e-transfer is a Canadian thing. From the U.S., I must do a wire transfer. OK, I contacted WECS for the information to use when I submit a wire to them. WECS gave me the SWIFT code for a bank in NYC, NY. Not The Bank of Montreal…major oops…wow. I had to contact WECS to get the correct Bank of Montreal SWIFT code. I also had to tell WECS to provide me with the account holder name. I am placing my wire and my bank says I need the Distribution Code. Guess what? WECS had not provided that needed information as well. Wow, I had to phone WECS and get that code to finish the wire. Wire payment was completed because of my persistence and in-spite of the incompetence and lack of needed and wrong information from WECS. Very frustrating. Next, I notified WECS via email the wire was complete and to change the payment status and please ship the coin to me. Crickets...nothing…no reply…no email…no phone call…their website still says “awaiting payment.” September 8, my bank notifies me the wire has been returned. Zero communication…again… from WECS. None. I had to call WECS to learn what happen and was told the people that knew were either off for the day or on vacation. I still have no idea what happen. And the refund was $68 USD short or too low. Certainly, the worst and most disrespectful customer experience of my life. My suggestion is you do not buy from WECS. If you are looking for a Royal Canadian Mint online dealer, try The Coin Shoppe, Colonial Acres, Canadian Coin & Currency, TSC or Canada Post. Or…you can purchase directly from the Royal Canadian Mint. Plus, there are more online dealers.
My first trip to Edmonton, so I decided to stop in at West Edmonton Coin and Stamp. Walking in, everyone was delighted to help me with anything I was looking for. I was just browsing the coin section, so I declined. Having worked in a shop for years, I am always curious to see what other dealers have in stock. When something caught my eye, I asked to see it and made an offer. Well, my advice would be to avoid this place if you were looking for friendly service from the point of negotiation onward. I was scoffed at and treated as if I had just insulted his mother (I offered 60% of asking price, or about what the piece was worth). Thereafter, both the guys behind the counter were reluctant to show me anything. I would have happily spent many hundreds of dollars had they been polite, courteous, etc. But they treated me like dirt not worth their time. My advice to them: Treat all your customers like you would like to be treated -- with respect. For those interested, 90% of their inventory is old RCM material. I will say that the lady in the stamp department was terrific. She was happy to show me the nice Canadian stamps she had in her inventory and we chatted for a bit. Wouldn't go back on principle, but also based on their coin stock. REGARDING THE STORE'S REPLY: For having been in business for 30 years, it's remarkable that these dealers had such a thin skin about an offer of 60% for a particular item. It's part of the game and something that many other reviewers have noted. Generally, a counteroffer will be made, and admittedly, you did counter. But I think what's being missed here is the importance of attitude. I would never have spoken to a client in such a dismissive tone. Being able to hear out an offer and come back isn't personal, it's business, but you seemed personally offended. And with regard to showing off inventory, I was pretty clear about what I wanted to see -- high-end U.S. and Canadian. There wasn't much for me to see, and that's fine, the nice stuff is hard to come by and goes out quickly. I get that. But it wouldn't kill you guys to crack a smile.
This place is an absolute joke. I went they're looking for a particular type of gold coin for my husband. I happen to know a lot about gold and any idiot can look up the price of gold on the internet. The coin I was looking at sold $70 above spot on sites like Kitco. They wanted an arm and a leg more than that. After arguing for a while that nobody in their right mind would pay three times more than they could buy it online for, the guy simply told me that not everybody knows about that so they'll be just fine without my business. Literally they admitted that they prey on people who do not know the simple ins and outs of bullion and that you can get it for an average price on sites like Kitco. If Kitco is selling it for 70 above spot I can see them selling it for $100 above spot simply because people would rather have it now rather than wait. But these people prey on their customers and as I looked around the store further everything in there pointed to that same thing. This is a shameful store and it's too bad that people like this do so well. Must just be in the right spot. Honestly I don't know how they have stayed in business this long. Do yourself a favor, if you're going to buy something expensive like this look online and check prices of almost any other store before even going to the store. You can take my word for it that everything in there is overpriced and an absolute waste of money. If you want jewelry go to a jewelry store. The things that they sell our investments and should be sold for a price that is fair for the time
This review speaks only of Star wars Merchandise found here so please direct to other reviews for their related product experiences. The line up is one of the best I've seen in a long time, good variety and the price is competitive if not similar to what can be found online after shipping. Overall I give it a solid 9/10 for product. Now customer service is mixed, you can see the people here are passionate and they know their stuff. There was also a lovely person on cash that was excited for me and keenly recommend some other products they carry. This being said some of them get really cocky. I had a gentleman who was obviously passionate about collecting star wars like I am but when I informed him I did not have the funds for a specific figure It was acted like the almost $400 of product I was already buying wasn't enough and that I should spend the costly amount to buy something I could not afford with them saying: "You'll be back for it." This experience first made me not want to go back for that specific figure and secondly was extremely rude to someone who wanted to buy alot of other items. Which is a shame considering that if the gentleman from the cash had been the one helping me I may have been tempted to possibly come back for the figure at a later date when the money presented itself. It's with heavy heart I only give 4/5 to this establishment. I'll definitely be keen to return every year or so I find myself in Edmonton but if I was a local I'd be off put to return here to spend my paycheck every 2 weeks.
I called this place the day before heading all the way there (long drive) to make sure they provide service I needed. I called actually 3 times only because I had a couple other questions. I was given contradicting information on each time I called as 3 different staff answered. So it was hard to really know for sure if anyone who works there knew anything? Two people out of the three did say yes we will look at the specific stuff we had so come on down! So we did. Ultimately we regretted the trip! One guy in the store was semi helpful, but we could only get proper appraisal of our items if we went to the owner, so we waited a while, only to be told rudely, "no we don't do appraisals for that sort of thing" I said "I was told you do by 2 different staff here on the phone yesterday!" This owner was a touch rude and acted like he was being bothered by us being in his store asking for such service, that was told to us was offered! There is a serious lack of communication in this place as staff don't seem to know which end is up, and lack customer service. On a side note they had some nice stuff but overall was far too congested with people and the store is way too full of products to even get anywhere. And with covid I was very surprised how many people were in there at one time! Will not be a repeat customer!
I'm reading the comments some users left and I'm just surprised 2 things went altogether... - Overpriced items - Rudeness of staff Well, let me explain you something, as well as for the next fellow buyers. In this kind of collection, we know what we want and what we are talking about. If a customer asks stupid or useless questions, for sure the staff will not spend time with you, or if you ask to see many coins and banknotes and not buying any single one, there are chances the staff will ignore you and treating another customer waiting in line. I used to live in Edmonton for 5 years and this place was my "supplier" for albums, stock books and many different Canadian currencies I bought to extense my collection. This staff was always nice and friendly with me and even if I'm living now in Vancouver area, I would go back to this store upon my next visit in Edmonton. No need to use the term "rude" when someone isn't satisfying your needs, just be patient and intelligent, the staff will treat you fairly! As for the price, it's like every collection or every vintage item, it has value with the times and for sure, a very good condition note or a mint coin will not be sold cheap. But there are tiny chances you'll find them cheaper somewhere else too... just so you know.
I went to check out the selection of Pokémon cards, looking for the sought after set ‘Hidden Fates’, and was delighted to see this store had the particular tins I wanted in stock. I was a past customer and had made purchases here before. When I inquired about the cost, I was told a price ($60) for a tin that retails at a regular price of ($30). I thought I heard wrong so I had to ask again. The reason for my shock is because I recently picked the same tins up at another store for the lower regular retail price. I was then aggressively told that it’s because it is a very popular set and that I ‘wouldn't find it anywhere else in the city’.It’s very unfortunate that this business has decided to gouge it’s customers and take advantage of the hype in order to make a massive profit. I am especially concerned for any younger buyers or parents who may not know any better. I implore any parent, young person, or regular customer to hold out and wait for these to get released over the holidays in regular retail box stores, charging a fair price. No one deserves to be gouged like this. Furthermore, I will never again step foot in this business. WECS has lost my business entirely and I will be telling friends and family to steer clear.
Absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had at a retail store. The older gentleman that work there was extremely rude and disrespectful. He acted as if he could care less to help me with anything I was trying to purchase or ask about. He told me (I had previously called and spoken to someone else already an hour ahead of time to confirm) that he didn’t stock the item I was looking for (basic sports card case).. which I actually did end up finding exactly what I was looking for in the store after he had rudely walked away from me. When speaking to him, I would attempt to ask a general question, and was told “I don’t know” over and over “I don’t know”. I was only asking ask basic questions about card holders (his job I think??) and I was constantly turned down with little to no respect for me or my business. If I could give a 0 star I definitely would without a second thought. I have never once been treated like, or spoken to in that manner before. From my experience today in this store, I will NEVER recommend this type of business behaviour nor the store itself. I will not be returning to this store- because of the older gentleman. This is not a way to conduct proper business on any level.
Purchased a coin with description of it having “all”original contents, paid $87 for it ( the discounted ones were $69 which stated it had no beauty box.) Received parcel in mail and the beauty box was missing which was the $69 dollar coin not the $87 coin. Called store and was treated in an extremely rude manner. Was told to ship back at my expense, even though it was their mistake. Was told by "Jack" that the beauty box has no value anyway....IT DOES TO ME!!! This is a warning to all potential buyers....avoid this place. My purchase was small but don't be fooled into thinking these guys wont do it on much larger orders. The customer truly does not matter with this outfit. I hope its worth the lost business not making this right...It would have simply cost you my shipping expense and a refund. AVOID AVOID AVOID Hey Jack....let me remind you what your own page says" “We'll pay the return shipping costs if the exchange is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.) This outfit misleads customers and wouldn't even honor their stated return policy. Good thing MasterCard has consumer protection against unethical business practises like this.
Like the selection. Hate the prices. Haven't had great experiences with the staff. Went in to buy an item that I had viewed a week previously. Price had been raised from $60 to $100. I pointed out that i was a student and that Wal Mart had the same thing available for $49, but said id be willing to pay the original (marked up) price to buy them and not have to order online and wait for shipping. Instead of just rejecting the offer he did everything short of swear a blood oath that I was wrong (he said C&S and Wal Mart have the same distributor, so "he would know") and tried to push the card set on me for 100 dollars claiming that they were "among the last in the city". Well lo and behold I ordered two sets of cards from Wal Mart for the price he was pushing for the one set in the store... Went in later to pick up some sleeves and buddy recognized me and tried to sell me the same set again for 100 bucks. Then acted like I'd discovered fire when I told him I'd just ordered through Wal Mart and saved a bunch of $. I've since switched to Collector's Edge next door - never had a bad experience and they dont nickel and dime you to death on everything.
I have been in this store many times and I find the selection AMAZING! The prices are the prices (some things seem high and some prices are so low it's shocking)…..they have bills to pay like anyone in WEM (rent is high) The staff are great (especially the owner), and yes, there is a variety of personalities in that store, but doesn't that make life a little more interesting? We are all different. I have always said to my kids "never go by the first impression, wait until the third….because you never know what that person has gone through OR goes through in their life". If you go in and feel like someone is watching you so you don't steal, then just brush it of and don't take it personal….. especially if you're not going to steal - LOL Theft is why prices go up and staff keeps a closer eye. Trust me, I've had my stuff stolen, and it hurts, really hurts. So enjoy your experience in West Edmonton Coin and Stamp like my family does - every time we visit! Visiting a store like this IS an experience! Especially with all the currency and collectibles! Life is short - enjoy!
EDIT- went back after a long while as they commented on my review mentioning improving.....and I was curious if they made any improvements. Nope. Very over priced when it comes to any of the figures they sell. I feel for people who aren't knowledgeable on the secondary market values for collectable figures like Star Wars or Neca. Staff badger quite a bit and follow you around. As always I try to be nice and engage in conversation. As a point to improve on during your next staff meeting, get your staff to research the product you sell including the values and specific lines. A shop like this will attract collectors, people who have been in the buying and selling game for years. Many very knowledgeable people who most likely know what they talking about, quite possibly more than your staff when it comes to specific items. It would probably be of benefit not to be so condescending when dealing with potential customers as you will tend to run out of them or at a minimum, word will get around the collecting community which I suspect it has.
had a subscribtion order that i ask to be delieved after every 10 issue, live in drumheller area. Waited a year with no phone calls or any commution. called and they where suppost to call me back no call back. Went in person to collect my comics morning person was great he owned up to the mistake and told me fact and was very pleasent was reconcided not cancelling my subscibtion. side not he look for my comic found them and call me that there well be waiting for me before i left edmonton. went back around 440pm and got a diffenent person all he could do is tell me i should not quit the subscription and then tryed to tell me it was my fualt and that they deliver to place and took no responsiblity. Im not in a habit of being told by a bisnuesses that it my fualt for bit doing my part when it there job to do it im not getting paid to do there job i pay them to do a job. so n the end i canceled the subsciption and moved on. Need to work on customer service
I decided to read reviews before going In to make a purchase for some coins, I went threw them and read mostly all good a couple bad but as a business owner I understand you can’t always please everyone also I understand that having a business with huge overhead and employees there has to be a mark up to keep the doors open. I called right at 10 am when they open and got an answer right away I asked about making a purchase and what the price was, the gentleman was very nice and answered all my questions and didn’t mind taking an extra minute or two to discuss. I told him I would be In shortly and what I wanted and when I arrived he had it ready for at the cash it was simple fast and to the point which I like. He also gave me $10 discount off price I was quoted over the phone which shows that he wants to build a relationship and I appreciate that a lot. I will definitely be back for my weekly purchase and plan to support this business.
Any collector or family please steer away from this business, specifically for pokemon product. This store between Calgary and Edmonton hands down is not only the MOST overpriced product but terrible attitude and customer service from the owner. There was zero product knowledge, didnt know what set "Generation packs" were from but knew the "20th anniversary set" Etb he had for $1250... never seen higher then $900 which is steep. I was looking up at the various boxes unorganized and grouped high up on the shelves. Without context or discussion the owner flaunted that he had Evolutions packs for $60!!!! Never ever have i seen those packs for more than $25-30, it's market value is more around $20 per pack. Everything tagged in store with a sticker was overpriced drastically. I expect some short excuse to justify his prices responsed to this review but i wont be returning to the store again based on this and numerous other reviews.
So to completely update my review seeing as how the owners took the time to answer it. (I appreciate that) The power cubes in Walmart contain lob and you usually get 2 packs and some rare cards for 20 bucks which yes isn’t an always guarantee but you can see the packs your buying inside the cube. So just pick lob. Just because something is selling for 80 on eBay doesn’t mean it isn’t selling for 6$ here... Yugioh source Edmonton is a local card shop near whyte and his standard is 5 bucks a pack of lob non first edition. Do the research based on the city your in and not your online market you’d realize really quick Edmonton is a Yugioh hub and we can and will get it for better prices. And before you mention your maximum gold son... Walmart is overpriced we can all agree so to be 2 dollars less than them isn’t impressive. When places like 401games or time vault are 10$ cheaper than Walmart
Store has a lot of neat items, however they are pretty over priced. I went in to buy $10,000 in silver when the surge backed off and prices fell. For some reason they up'd their prices when silver dropped. I don't mind paying a little more to help local business but when they are $2-3 a oz more than anywhere else I simply won't pay that. They were selling silver leaf coins for $46.50, when the day before I was in their and they were $45.40 or something like that. I just left went on line and got them for $44.18 from a Calgary bullion dealer. I also do not know what is up with them not really caring to show you items in the case. These are some new times and a lot of people have money to invest and spend. They really should have a meeting and figure out a way to boost morale. Their employees seem to be miserable which changes how customers like myself spend and where they spend.
Could not be more disappointed with this store/company. We reside in Red Deer and on Sunday December 18th we made a modest online order (order number 12299) of $105.00 for Christmas presents. - We paid extra (expresspost) to ensure a prompt delivery. On Tuesday December 20th the package came right on time and that please us, however to our dismay and surprise not all the coins we ordered were in there (but we were charge for them). I called the store instantly upon finding this, the fellow I chatted with said the missing coin is going in the mail as we speak. Fast forward to 4:20pm on December 23rd and no coins (that we paid for) have shown up. - I just called again (at 4:23pm) and I was told to call on Sunday December 25th this time, as this new fellow said the lady that handles online orders should be in. Everyone makes mistakes...but we judge how they rectify them.
Absolutely rude and awful service to the point where they were questioning my partner about her interest in games as if they were accusing her of lying about her hobbies. If the service wasn't rude the staff came off as creepy and unsettling to be around and would not even let me look around without trying to explain an item like I was some kind of idiot that doesn't know anything about cards or figures. You cannot get a second to yourself in this place without someone looming around you. The staff also throw off a very elitist attitude whenever you express interest in something, almost like they're fighting you to show that they're the biggest fans of whatever you enjoy. Next time I'm going to collectors edge at least they treat you with kindness and respect. Whoever owns this place seriously doesn't know how to hire decent staff. Stay away from this store.
Comic shoppers beware! Went to shop for comics, picked out a couple from the bins I’ve been trying to find. Went to pay and he Took 1of my books and said “ I don’t want to sell that one, I think I’ll get that graded” !!!! Like seriously!! Who does that? So if they see a book that they want to get more money for or it’s a key issue they’ll take it from you and leave you standing there thinking Did this just happen? Like WTH was that?! You have horrible Morals and Terrible business Ethics. Your prices are astronomical compared to other comic stores and your other merchandise I won’t even go there on how inflated your prices are! I will never shop there again and I hope you take some classes on ethical and moral behaviour. So very disappointed in this experience. Total waste of my time!! People take your business elsewhere.
I was in Edmonton for business, I collect Pokemon cards and saw this shop decided to take a look. The staff all knew what they were talking about and were genuinely nice. The only thing I disliked was most prouducts were 10-20$ overpriced and for the booster boxes the price shown would resemble the price after tax plus 30$ if it’s showing the price before tax those are crazy overpriced. Just last week I bought a Scarlet and Violet booster box for 200$ after tax their price was 230$. And this didn’t really bother me much but if you sell singles please add a display case or them listed on your website. Now I’ve just gone for a second visit and this time my experience was nowhere near as good. The staff couldn’t be less engaged with answering the 2 questions I asked and generally seemed very depressed.
I love this store. It carries so much cool stuff. It has all the coins and bill collectables you could ever need or want. It has sports memorabilia, comics and figurines as well. It might have stamps too, but I have to draw the line somewhere! The staff is great, very friendly and informative. I wish I could spend hours in there but my wife is dragging me out after 60 seconds. My recommendation is drop her off at Hot Topic or Urban Outfitters first so you can truly enjoy all this store has to offer and give it the hours it deserves. If you manage to evade the ball and chain long enough or have trouble concentrating, the cannabis store is right next door. You can get two birds stoned at once. If she catches you, just tell her it's all water under the fridge. What a great mall!
The price of gold is significantly down today so I paid these guys a vist to purchase some maple grams. I am getting a maple gram for less than $90 so was expecting to purchase them at a cheaper rate here. To my shock the guy on the counter stated it was 145 a piece. Are you kidding me! This is probably the best attempt at price gouging. This guy should receive an award for his attempt to pull a fast one on me. I understand that they are in a mall and got bills to pay. But 145 is ludicrous. You have lost a customer in me and believe me I make at least $ 5,000 worth purchases per month. And before you come back with a fast line I can sell you a maple gram at 90 bucks if you are interested probably even cheaper if you buy bulk from me. Interested?
I was looking for the 2020 Graduation coin from mint.ca and the majority of the places in Canada were sold out. I found it at West Edmonton Coin& Stamp and ordered it online. I called the store and they told me my order was received and they would ship the product. I like their website: easy to navigate, to find the products and to place an order as a guest. When I was looking for this coin, i came across many websites , but this was by far the nicest/cleanest. The coin arrived fast, in one week , and it is very beautiful. Moreover, I was pleasantly surprised to find inside the package a 2 dollar bill from 1986. My daughter, who will receive the coin as a graduation gift, will love this old bill. She is a collector. Thank you from Toronto!
I have shopped coins and accessories there for several times. Some of their staffs are really very nice. But today I was treated very badly and the funny thing is that the guy is their owner. Extremely bad post sales service when I wanted to exchange a capsule I bought for my coin, I have never been treated like that in any other stores. Wanted to support local but disappointed, and very confused why he treated a customer who brought him businesses in such a bad manner. A capsule only costs two bucks, I can buy a new one anywhere else, but I will never make any more businesses with this store in the future because of the owner’s attitude, not mentioned many of their products are way overpriced compared to other online shops.
I have shopped at a lot of Cards and Collectors shop, but this one really sticks out to me. The staff are really great people and treat me very well. A lot of people are put off from their prices being a bit higher in some areas, but I'll gladly give them a few more bucks because they treat me like a valued customer. A lot of store don't even try. They greet me, know their stuff and are even willing to special order niche products for me. They even let me know of some new stuff coming out in case I was interested in picking it up on their own initiative. This store is a something very special for a consumer like myself, and I'll continue supporting this wonderful store and the people who work there.
Called today. Was inquiring about some cards. The employee who I talked to was too busy with other customers. He gave vague information that wasn't helpful and he came across rude like he had no interest in talking to me. I asked for any pre-2005 cards and I know they have some because I've visited this store before and he said there is none. It's just hard to see what the selection is when you go to the store because it's all behind the counter so you have to ask for assistance. Since most terrible salespeople want to talk your ear off, most customers don't want to be swarmed and that's what happens here. I guess I'll call on a different day when someone who actually knows their inventory responds.
These guys deserve a 10 stars- period. I have had a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend them. Ordered a coin on their website which they had offered for an awesome price. Got an acknowledgement email right away that they have received my order followed by a tracking number. When placing an order I asked for an extra item which I wasn’t expecting to get but guess what, they not only included my extra item but also threw in an additional complimentary item. The coin was very well packaged and promptly mailed out. Received within a day. They have gone above and beyond and have exceeded my expectations. Will definitely do more business with them. Thank you West Edmonton Coins and Stamps
Rude staff, over priced. Went in looked at some some cards asked for a price check. Because the card was priced for mint to near mint . Card was clearly played had a ton of surface scratches and the whole back side edges were wore down to white. Got sent all over the place just to have a staff member ask the owner to "deal with me". Owner proceeds to walk up not even hear me out and say "lowest ill go is 50 instead of 55. If you don't want to you can buy online. I can sell this easy" rudest owner I've ever met I was even saying sorry to a different employee who was agreeing with me that the card is past near mint. I wasn't trying to be rude I just didn't want to get ripped off
Extremely disappointing. Went in to inquire about Pride of 2 Nations that was priced at $239. Talked to who I believe is the owner/manager and he was extremely condescending. He indicated that at that price I should by it right now. Within 3 minutes I went to buy and they switched the price tag and went back to him he says “I told you that you should of bought it”. Extremely condescending, he smiles and says that he will give me a deal at $260. What makes this more disappointing is that over the years my son and I have been going there usually dealing with Frosty and have spent thousands on coins and even got a signed jersey from there but we will not be going
I wouldn't consider myself a coin collector, however I am a fan of the Royal Canadian Mint and I am always watching to see what they release. Every so often something comes out and I will make a purchase. Usually my shopping is online, so I was pleased to come across this store. It was fantastic to see the plethora of coins! I was very happy with the level of customer service (older gentleman named Frosty I believe). He was knowledgeable, engaged in friendly and helpful conversation. I appreciated no pushy sales! Many businesses could benefit from having a mature staff.I also felt that the prices were reasonable. I will definitely recommend this place.
If you want to find rudeness, go there! On Labour day long weekend, I decided to shop some coins for my collection. 1stly, their coins are unreasonably more expensive than other dealers. But I still bought several coins for $50.25. Like other coin dealers, they prefer cash instead of credit card. I just happened to have $50 paper money in my wallet without any coins. I asked them how about $50. The guy in the shop shouted out without even looking at me: "50 dollar 25 cents!" I was very angry with with his attitude. I asked kindly about 25c off, but he returned me with his rudeness. I left the store without buying anything. DO NOT go to that store.
Just wanted to say how fantastic Eman is on the Funko Pop department! Constant professional and cares about his customers. He has helped me everytime I go in to look for Pops and the selection at Coin & Stamp is undeniably the best in Edmonton! (I weekly check SO many places) He has even found me some hard to find Funkos and kept a list of any others that come in and calls me. I believe he does the ordering too and the selection will surprise you! There is a big array of $12 Pops too and there are some great finds. Thanks Eman for helping me out, reasonable pricing and managing such a great department, your customers really appreciate it!
I went in today to get the owners opinion on 3 gold coins I was left in.my inheritance. Let's start with the female employee..just quit okay if you don't like your job go somewhere else cause your ugly attitude matches your ugly heart who do you think you are treating people like they are beneath you?And that geriatric behind the counter sitting there like he's something special. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEMD THIS STORE...DO NOT SHOP HERE... #BOYCOTTCOINANDSTAMP I will make sure this hurts your store where it counts in the WALLET. I am going to be petty and make it my mission to close you down.
This is a great shop if you're into collecting coins, especially the Canadian ones. They also have a collection of bills, though the coin collection is much bigger. I think their staff should be much better informed about what is available and what is not. I wanted to get a banknote album, and the guy told me that they only have coin albums, but while I was browsing the shelves, I saw what I wanted. Had I not looked, I would have probably walked out without getting what I wanted. The place is definitely worth a visit if you're into collecting banknotes and coins.
This store has almost everything. I got a coin from there that was recently sold by Royal Canadian Mint. The mint was sold out. This coin was in stock at the store. They sell new coins from Royal Canadian Mint for the same price the mint does. You can spend hours in here looking at stuff that's not available anywhere else. The staff is great. They will explain everything about your purchase, even if you forgot what they said in two days, they will explain over the phone again. This is rare customer service these days. I recommend this place for any collector.
Ive been to this store twice, the first time I went with my mum an one of the staff members was being very creepy towards her and followed us around and was overall very uncomfortable. The second time I went alone and the service was also bad but in the opposite sense, when I went to get my stuff rung up the staff didn't say a word to me, no even a 'have a good day' or anything. But nonetheless the comic book prices are pretty good, I don't know about any other products because comics is the only thing I go in for.
Very overpriced. You should buy your less rare packs at london drugs or other retail stores instead of wasting 15 dollars on a 6 dollar pack. Very sad to see how this business takes advantage of all those who are just looking for fun, If you are looking for rare packs for reasonable prices and way more pokémon selection go to Capital City Cards! they aren’t open as much but the price difference is uncanny, 50 dollars for a xy evolutions pack is just sad. go to capital city cards and get them for $15. unbelievable
Wide selection of items available here, not just coins! They have trading cards, funkos, games, all sorts of items. We were there to pick up some coin books for my wife to store some of her coins in, and the older gentleman working the counter was quite funny. He joked about how crazy the prices of things were and the new bag tax, very friendly staff :). I will say that the only downside is how crowded the space feels, there's not a clear path around the store as lots of displays seem to be just placed randomly.
This was my first experience ordering coins online from West Edmonton Coin & Stamp and I truly enjoyed it very much. I live in Toronto and could not find a local coin shop who could provide me with the pricing and service that I received from this store. It was very fast service indeed and I received my coins in top condition much sooner than I had expected. I will certainly be doing much more business with this company in the future, keep up the great work and excellent service, I will be back soon !
Lots of selection but it felt very cramped as a result. I'm not a huge person but I felt really insecure, like one wrong turn (of my body) could, without intention, damage the merchandise. I wasn't really certain where to look for specific items either, so organization could stand to be improved. I'd still likely go back here, as said, there's no lack of selection. Just with enough time (and the staff to do so) I feel there are improvements that could be made to improve the shopping experience here.
I've been coming here for years. The Pokemon selection has always been on point and it is just fun to browse the store because it is a bit of a museum at times. Admittedly, the staff are quirky and I think this is why previous comments are saying their employees are "rude." This is a positive element in my opinion and while they might be "rude" as some might say, they actually know what they are talking about. Whenever I go to West Ed, I make sure to drop by this store. I'm never disappointed.
Beware of Frosty whom is the guy that is supposed to be the expert on trading cards. Had a general question about the value of an O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie card that is authenticated and rated and he told me with a straight face that they're not worth much. Typical dealer that will lowball you by distorting the facts, try to purchase your card for next to nothing and then resell it at a 1000% markup. This is definitely NOT the place to expect an honest deal on a valuable rookie card.
The owner has branched out into all kinds of things. Coins and stamps have grown into so much more such as sports memorabilia. I picked up a game worn Stampeders helmet in fact. Very cool. The owner is very knowledgable with his merchandise, especially coins, so if you have questions and want to purchase any that is a popular place to go in Edmonton. The staff were plentiful and helpful. If you're over in the far west end of the mall (under the theater) go check them out on the main floor.
I came here to browse common yugioh cards and the sales associate at the counter let me browse for 30 seconds before telling me I was not allowed to look anymore since it was busy. I was very confused why i was treated this way. Did he think I might steal something? Perhaps it wasn't worth their time to assist me? For some reason he had someone take the book to the back and he went on to helping other customers. Treating customers this way is very confusing. I left immediately.
Last three times I went in here one employee who also plays the same game I do says the online site is wrong and tells me the prices are double, box of packs 100 on site 210 in store from this employee only. I asked them through Facebook why they do this I can't post a screen shot because I don't know how, but their reply was just a thumbs up.... Either they don't care if their employees creep out the customers and charge double then the site or the manager is telling them to
I have been going to this store since I was a little kid. First it was Pokemon, now sports memorabilia this is and will be a favorite I go and check out every time I am in West Edmonton Mall. The staff there is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and always make the experience fun. There is never a time I cannot find something cool in there. Thanks for the help throughout the years West Edmonton Coin and Stamp. I will refer people your way anytime possible.
Absolutely fantastic store and cannot wait for my next visit! All staff were incredibly friendly, very helpful and engaged with every customer, including children, to make all feel welcomed. My family received top notch customer service delivered with total professionalism by the best Canadian (in our humble opinion) in #AdamLucy. You Sir, definitely made our experience in Edmonton a very memorable one. Will certainly visit again 5!!!
They have got to be the most overpriced Pokemon product retailer out here, its actually crazy, if you're looking to buy Pokemon cards, do not ever come here. Its actually kind of crazy. Im probably just gonna get a review like "Thank you for leaving your review, we are taking this into consideration!" or something, but y'all know how high the prices are. Literally go to any other retailer in the mall or an actual local card shop to buy cards.
Wildly overpriced. I noticed specific collectibles that were marked $80-$100 that are worth no more than $30. Their single Pokemon cards are also up to double the price of what the cards are actually worth. The staff are also very, for lack of a better term, weird. Like, incredibly weird. Friendly and knowledgeable, but very weird. There's nothing specific I can say to explain it further, you just have to experience it for yourself.
Only two stars because even though they have a very wide selection of collectables, their cards are very overpriced. Employee was pretty rude after I mentioned a place that has the same set of cards for less than half the price. The employees here are like vultures even when you have one of them helping you another one or two will ask if you need help. My suggestion is if you can find an item somewhere else get it there.
Great selection of almost anything you'd need if you are into comics, collectibles, etc. I went to 5 stores looking for card sleeves to fit Japanese standard cards (small sleeves) and they were the only location I could find that sold them. They had a good selection of colours and styles as well. Please stop by this shop before shopping online because chances are they'll have what you are looking for at a decent price
I really enjoyed the selection of anime figures and anime collectables. It seems however that over the years stock has been diminishing and what used to be a wide selection has been reduced to a couple of options.. I'd like to see more options in the future that would be awesome! Updated review as response was satisfactory. Totally realized I was blaming them for what was not in there control. Keep up the good work.
As others have said, its expensive to shop here. Speaking strictly to their MTG products, from what I recall, every single MTG booster bundle was $20 - $30 more expensive then most other local places I shop. I'm sorry but I refuse to pay $70 for something I have and still can get for $50. They have a ton of products and it's essentially a one-stop-shop for all of my nerdy needs. That, at least, deserves 2 stars.
Great place to go and buy products from.... They always treat you right!! Well informed staff... Friendly atmosphere... They always have the store well stocked with the most up to date and varied products that a collectibles store should have... Maybe the best collectibles store in Edmonton from my opinion of things!! Jack is a very efficient business man who knows how to run a profitable enterprise!!!
I always try to support local businesses but most of the coins they have on display are way too expensive (ie: 25$ for a single silver 50cent piece when they are only worth 10-15$.) Sometimes I cannot buy certain things such as junk silver when the owner is not present at the store. Other than that They do have a great selection on coin supplies and other accessories and the staff are nice.
Hockey hobby cards are just way too expensive here. I remember coming here to pick up spa and the guy told me it was $200 and everywhere else at the time was selling it for 150$ this isn't the 1st time this has happen... Series 1 when it came out was going for 125$ and they had it priced out ready for 180$. Do your research before you buy your stuff. Last thing you need is to be over paying
Overall, a Great Store with friendly and helpful Staff. The only drawback to the store and not in a real negative way is it is a little confined, like they're really trying to maximize what they can get into the retail space which makes the aisles (well, more like space between display cases and shelves) narrow and cramped and this in turn can make it frustrating when the store is busy
I went in to talk to someone about my collection of coins I brought awhile ago, they told me they weren't interested and that they didn't need any of my common coins and I should just spend them instead. I went to another coin store and when they seem my collection they offered me $1350 for one of my misprints. Will not be back, they offer nothing and ask for 2-3X market price.
I was looking all over the stores for souvenirs and all I found was dump stuff until I was referred to this store. I found everything I was looking for and more and with great prices. The staff was very helpful and ready to drop everything to help you and in a very welcoming and a kindly way. So for every Edmonton tourist this is the best place for family gifts and souvenirs
I very much enjoy visiting this store whenever we visit WestEd. Unfortunately it is only once a year at best. It is full of things I have never seen in one place before. Any staff I have dealt with have been very good and accommodating. I have purchased a few coins online from them when their inventory and price catch my eye. They have arrived in good order and on time.
Just in to ask questions about my coins, I was quickly dismissed and felt like I was bothering these people. They were definitely helping people who were buying in their store. My friend was asking about his hockey cards he was given the cold shoulder and was given no specifics. Do not go to this place for help or to sell or buy they will give quality customer service.
I enjoy the store and love to look. Other than the overpriced ebay sales prices for pokemon, the only complaint I have is I always feel like the staff in the store follow me. It would be great if the staff backed off a bit and didn't ask us every minute if we need help. I like browsing peacefully and I always get asked over 3 times if I need help. Like once is enough.
Had a great visit at this store during a day trip to Edmonton. Lots of NFL stuff, including Ravens swag which is usually super hard to find! Amazing coins as well. But the best part was the sales guy Jordan Forsythe who was so cute and funny and gave me a free calendar which I put up at my desk at work! I’ll go back there again for Ravens gear thanks to Jordan!
I took my son there to buy him a coin for his birthday. They have beautiful coin collection and other unique things to buy from there. Staff are knowledgeable and they treat you so very kind. They staff will take the time and explain about the coins or any other questions you may have. Hard not to leave this place without the temptation of buying something.
I know its in west ed, but i feel like the prices are SUPER inflated. i feel like with the foot traffic the store gets it should have better prices. The coin person is super not friendly but the rest of the staff is super attentive and very friendly. I try to support local so from time to time I come here. But for coins there are better options in edmonton.
Amazing selection of collectibles, probably one of if not the best in the city to the point that you are guaranteed to find something you have never seen before! The downside however, is the pricing. Being in the Mall means much higher prices on items that you can find elsewhere at a better rate but for the hard to find collectable this is the place to go!
Very mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, their staff are top-notch in terms of both knowledge and customer service. On the other hand, their prices are significantly inflated compared to other places, often as much as 30% more than other hobby shops. At least this has been my experience with them over the years with Yu-Gi-Oh! an Pokemon.
I like that they have a ton of pokemon products, great selection. The only thing I have a problem with is their price, like a booster box I bought for 230$ only to find online that it's 169$. I've read most of their reviews, and I don't know what market they use, but it sure isn't one in this universe. Wouldn't recommend buying pokemon cards here.
Was in there yesterday. I am into numismatics and although everything was way over spot price(like almost 3 times for an oz of silver ) i was still interested in buying something as im from out of town. In there for 30 minutes and not asked once if i needed help. They were all too busy on phones . Will never be back and will never recomend
OMG some cool stuff in this store. Found a bunch of Warhammer JoyToy models I could not find at home. Wild selection of collectible money and coins. Lots of sports collectibles as well but not really my thing. Comics, D &D stuff ... too much to list. If you're in the West Edmonton mall, it's worth stopping by for a look. Super nice staff as well.
I ordered a coin, as the shipping was free. The coin arrived in pristine condition. Included, by way of thank you, were century year-old nickels, a penny, and a 50 cent piece. If you are looking for a coin or stamp, it would be my suggestion that you check out West Edmonton Coin & Stamp. My experience has been as good as an experience can be.
This place is the GOAT! Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I went in and bought a a pokemon booster pack and it ended up pulling a mega charizard ex full art, and they gave me a top loader free of charge. Honestly, even though I live an hour outside the city, I may just return every week due to how friendly and honest the staff are.
I visited this store in July 2018. Was served by a guy named Adam Lucy. The products in store are mind-blowing. They have a collection of items that will make you want to spend your whole paycheck just to buy everything you see. And the service is incredible! Adam will help you like you've never been helped. Definitely worth the visit!
Good prices on coins and cards, but man do they overprice there Lego sets. And it gets annoying when employees follow you and interupt your convos with friends. Edit. Changing review from a 2 to a 4 star, an older man kindly educated me about a coin I had and i took friends here to look for hockey cards and they love this place.
Nice store has all the necessary stuff, every time I go in I find something I want. Staff are all nice enough, usual comic shop and collector type of people. I have done pre order list with them before and that was always on point. The only thing I would possibly want is more high end classic comics for the big $ collectors.
Went for the first time Friday and found a coin I had been desperate to find. Completely sold out in Ontario wherever I went. Found it in seconds, they have a ton of supply. Went immediately back the next day and purchased another piece that was also s/o at the mint. Excellent place. Love thoer professionalism and knowledge.
Came in just cause it looked cool from the outside. There’s a lot of collectibles in there from funko pops, to sports card and memorabilia, to stamps and coin collectibles. We ended up buying a card sleeve for our basketball and Pokémon cards. The owner was helpful in finding the right fit for us. Very friendly and helpful.
Very pleased this store is in our city. Excellent/consistent stock over the years I've been shopping here. Shop with confidence. Online shopping will not give you the piece of mind you're getting "genuine product". No question, pleased to support local. Jack assisted us, he's excellent, we will be back in the future.
The people that work at the card section are terrific! Breigh is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, she’s always happy and very very nice, and frosty is another awesome person, he’s so nice he decided by his choice to give me a book all about baseball stats... for free! Very nice shop 5/5 would recommend
Great selection but WEM prices. Staff is reasonably friendly and knowledgeable but more often than not, aren't helpful. Very poorly organised with tight squeezes, product on the floors, and a poor layout making browsing pretty inconvenient. Don't expect to bring a stroller, wheelchair or motorized scooter inside.
Another over-priced hobby store in Edmonton! A huge selection of action figures new and old, at prices you’d have to be an idiot to pay! Save your money and just buy online! Even with shiping costs, you’ll save money! Staff is also really eccentric. If you want to be left to shop in peace, DON’T GET THEM TALKING!
What an incredibly overpriced sporadic creep fest... the employees linger around female patrons and invade their space to an uncomfortable extent, they ignore the male customers and try to rip you off for over $20-$30 per item. Buy the same stuff on Amazon for half the price and none of the sexual harassment!!!
This place is terrible. Silver premium is 12 dollars over spot. What in the hell?? Please go somewhere else to buy or sell your silver rounds. Anyone can get silver for 3/4 literally anywhere else. This is ridiculous just because you are in a mall?? And so rude not friendly. Fells like a very dishonest place.
Probably my favourite store at West Edmonton Mall and also one I enjoy going to each time I'm in the City. If you are a coin collector or are into stamps or other things then this is the store to be. Has alot of interesting items in the store and it's quite a nice clean store with very nice employees.
I cannot stress enough how much this place should be avoided for comics. It has gone substantially downhill. They lost my entire subscription file and even after talking to multiple people about it, it was never updated. Do yourself a favour and get comics elsewhere. This place is a disaster.
Great Pokemon card product selection. Though overpriced, I seem to be lucky with the pulls I get. I purchased a Tyranitar V tin and a Dive Ball tin, and managed to get great pulls. The Dive Ball was a one hit wonder and pulled a rainbow Noivern GX. Guess there's a reason to be overpriced.
We are in the store at least twice a year but definitely at Christmas time for the Christmas coin sets for our nieces and nephews. The gentleman behind the counter is always helpful great to deal with and as a smile on his face. Definitely recommend this as a must stop for any collector.
I recently purchased a coin from this store and received it expeditiously. It was also very well packaged. When I called to inquire about the online transfer I had sent, the customer service agent I dealt with was very polite and helpful. I highly recommend this store.
Jam Packed. Stuff every where. Isles very narrow, filled with so much stuff. Almost random. Hockey stuff here and there. Coins here and there. Comics here and there. No ryhme or reason how the store was laid out. Lots of stuff to look at.. Nothing to worth to go back.
Absolutely amazing store the workers are extremely helpful. I find when I sold my comic collection they were offering the best price. Very respectful towards others, do not hesitate to sell your collections here. No collection is to small or to big . 6 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
was here the past weekend and the staff is extremely kind and helpful and I'd like to thank one of the employee's Adam for helping me with a figure I've been searching for awhile, would come back again in the future thanks Coin and Stamp for being an awesome store!.
Retail stores will survive cause people enjoy the interaction with other people and enjoy the opportunity to learn about the products. This one will not and the owner will blame everything but himself and his staff . Went to buy a coin and was treated horrible .
Always acknowledged when I come into the store. Personable staff. Someone is always around incase you have a question. Would give 5 stars but I feel prices can sometimes be a bit high on the collectible memorabilia - hit or miss depending on what you're after.
Avoid this place for Pokémon TCG products, almost every product there is marked up ridiculously high. After asking a staff member why the prices where so high he blatantly lied to me saying that was the market price and you could not find it anywhere cheaper.
The staff are great and knowledgeable. The manager however, is the complete opposite. Rude and abrasive is the only positive way to describe his interactions with customers. I will be taking my business elsewhere as dealing with him is abusive at best.
Lots to choose from, wide variety of coins and bank notes. However, "High" retail prices. Silver bullion more than $20 over spot price, per ounce!! The store owners must not want to sell anything, or think that the retail public are sofa King stupid.
Great and dedicated service! I purchased two collection coins from them. Beside the fact that the coins are superb, they arrived well packed and in good shape. The shop went the extra miles by adding a few cool extra-items with the parcel.
The gentlemen that were at d cards (yu gi oh, pokemon etc) were very nice and helpful. They treated my son well and did not treat him any differently than any adult that walked in who were willing to buy the big ticket items. …
The person at the coin collection counter is hands down the nicest, most patient person in the entire mall! He was so great to help me and my son with our amateur coin collection, it made our day completely, thank you very much.
