This Hospital is in the middle of nowhere, as an NHS patient from Leeds it cost £120 in taxis because my surgical op was here instead of Leeds,(I live 10 mins from LGI) shorter wait for op but at what cost? Made me come for 07:30 so taxi at 06:15 then made me wait till 14:00 on the ward b4 op. No food, no pain killers odd sip of water. No warning of wait Told not to bring personal effects so didn't have a book or news paper or anything. I have rhuem Arthritis and was in pain waiting for over 8 hrs. Told all patients came in at 07:30 to make it more convenient for surgeon. Staff were friendly and professional but the way it was organised had anybody but me in mind. When I brought any of this up was treat like I was ungrateful. Surgions counter was "we have been working hard all day and are also tired and fustrated" Guess what if I was on ur wage I would be there day in and out too. Also nt my fault there 1 surgeon and 1 anesthetist in this back water barn yard of a hospital. I get the backlog is a problem but making me pay alot of money and inconvenience doesn't seem fair. They gave me a care pack when I left that contained painkillers and instructions for what to do before my surgey. Nothing about how to treat my wound/ stitches. Thank god for Google.

Had an appointment today (10-8-16) booked for 9am I arrived early and went to reception. The gentleman there was very friendly and helpful, even leaving his desk to point me in the right direction and using my name when he returned my thanks. I arrived at the pre-assessment reception and was again treated in the same friendly and efficient way. I was seen within minutes by a friendly staff nurse who chatted amiably throughout, taking care to make me feel at ease with my upcoming operation and setting my mind at rest. This was followed by yet another caring and considerate lady who arranged the date of my operation offering me free coffee while she typed my confirmation letter. As I left I was almost elated at the treatment I received. I even stopped at the cafe for breakfast and lo and behold had another friendly and thoughtful greeting from the lady at the counter. She, like the rest, was caring and helpful throughout. I wondered if it was hospital policy to be like this or just nice friendly people getting satisfaction from giving great service. What a brilliant experience - 5 stars from start to finish!

On behalf of my husband Peter O’Reilly, I would like to highly commend this hospital, it’s staff and the treatment he was given this morning. He has to have injections in both eyes every month, and has been doing so for the last 18 months at another hospital much further away and a not very pleasant drive to get there. He has now been transferred to this hospital as they have started a new clinic there. What a relief!! Apart from the much shorter journey to get there, the hospital was very clean, bright, cheerful staff and though newly opened they seem to have a more streamlined patient notes system. In spite of having to have these injections, Peter was very impressed and found the whole experience much more pleasant to cope with. All the staff were very pleasant and made sure patients were attended to as soon as was possible. They even have a beverage trolley service! And easy parking and not too expensive. Thank you Wharefdale you have made our lives so much easier on our monthly hospital trip.

I have been turned away from Otley 'walk in' clinic this evening after bringing my son with a nasty infection. I was asked if I had an appointment?? According to the NHS website an appointment is not needed - this of course, being the very definition of a 'walk in' service. The old woman on reception needs retraining as she came across rather rude and I felt embarrassed in front of the other patients waiting, she suggested 'I go to A&E if it's so serious'. What is the problem here? Why was I turned away from a hospital with a young boy needing medical treatment? It is impossible to get a G.P appointment, you are discouraged from going to A&E and you can't turn up at a walk in centre without an appointment (allegedly) which puts you straight back to square one... This is an absolute disgrace, I can't tell you how disappointed I am in the NHS lately. 124 billion pounds budget and they can't run a decent service...makes you wonder where the money goes?

  • Imogen

Took my Mum to an appointment a few weeks back. My mum really rated the consultant that she saw, said he was very understanding, interested in her health concerns and very knowledgeable as well as being a trustworthy professional. I sat in the little cafe which was VERY small. Found staff to be friendly and helpful, but there wasn't much choice in terms of ranges of food. I find it bizarre that there aren't much choices for those on a restricted diet, surely they're the prime places for incorporating more inclusiveness re meeting people's needs, but then this seems to be the case in most hospital restaurants and cafes. There was ample parking, all on ground level. You're charged per hour, but this can be done using cash or your phone.

Got there at around 9pm with my injured son only to find a sign on the pay and display box stating the minor injuries unit was closed due to "volume of patients" Went in to ask where the nearest alternate service was; woman on reception gave the impression she couldn't care less as she shrugged at me. Surprised no triage system in place. Frankly, every time I turn up at Wharfedale, I'm invariably sent down to A and E in Leeds, as Wharfedale can't deal with the problem. Would close it down and put the money into a "real" hospital that actually treats patients instead of turning them away. Save yourself the wasted journey and go to LGI instead. Happy 70th birthday NHS, what a fantastic service you provide!!!!!

After a fall on Saturday night , l broke my little finger . Contacted the minor injuries dept and they got back to me within a short time , got seen by nurse , had x ray , back in to see nurse and finger strapped up , out within an hour . Given slip of paper of details ( this email address bounced back with time sensitive message on , don’t know what that means) I was very impressed with the service to say the least and couldn’t thank them enough , they were all so good , as a NHS member of staff myself , your doing a brilliant job and keep up the great work your doing , and l couldn’t recommend Otley Hospital enough , thank you .

I work within the NHS and I must say that the treatment here was substandard. The receptionist upon arrival was miserable, lacked any interest and overall felt as though she had better places to be. The "clinician" was just as bad as the receptionist. No interest in to my husband's issue, stated she "dealt with this all the time" (very very unlikely). She also made out that he did not give his body time to respond and that he shouldn't have attended.... He telephoned 111 after googling (Google advised A&E for urgent clinical care), 111 advised he attend minor injuries immediately. Lacking care and compassion on multiple levels.

Having spent half my life in hospitals, I've pretty much done a tour of Yorkshire hospitals. Whenever possible, I try to get clinic appointments at Wharfedale, as its rare they run massively late, the staff are organised and courteous and I've never had a bad experience since first going in 1978. Wharfedale Hospital is set in very pleasant surroundings and despite its major overhaul, it still holds a massive amount of history and is one of the more 'pleasant' hospitals in Leeds and surrounding areas. Note that there is not an a&e at Wharfedale, however they do hold a daily minor injuries unit, for x-rays and non urgent traumas.

Today, my mother underwent a minor operation in Ward 1 of the day surgery. We would like to express our gratitude for the incredibly warm reception received from the staff. Every individual, from the receptionist to the nurses and surgical team, displayed an exceptional level of kindness, friendliness, care, and attentiveness. Their genuine concern and support truly eased my mom's anxiety, particularly regarding going under anaesthetic. We are immensely grateful for the outstanding kindness and care extended to her throughout the entire process. Your collective efforts were absolutely remarkable! Thank you all so much.

  • rusty eggbut

Absolutely shocking would not recommend to anyone I got knocked off my bike on Saturday evening and went up on Sunday evening as I was in pain with my leg they xrayed it and said all was fine but the nurse that I saw turned around to me and said "we have just wasted £25 on an X-ray for you when you could of just had some painkillers then you wouldn't of had to come here would you" then walked off.... is this not what I pay national insurance for ? Will not return and will be telling all my friends and family not to bother and just go to Harrogate instead!!! Not our fault the government are cutting staff is it

  • Donna Haggan

We came all the way from morley as my partner had a appointment for a small operation at the Wharf dale hospital on Tuesday this week Just to say a big thank you to the male nurse who went out of his way to show us the way in to the hospital and to let the staff on ward 1 to let them know that we had arrived. When we got on to ward 1, due to COVID I was not allowed to stay with him. The nurses and doctors were there for him to stay calm. The hospital cafe is small and clean ,( shuts at 2 pm) to the wards to the grounds is small and welcoming. Thank you once again Wharf dale hospital.

I’ve just taken my 8 yr old because he slipped in the kitchen and had smashed his face, lots of blood. I buzzed at minor injuries and had someone incredibly rude, knowing it was an 8 yr old no triage to see if it was maybe an emergency. Go in your car and call us, we are really busy. I’ve driven home because she was that rude I couldn’t face doing what she suggested. Fortunately my neighbour is a nurse and I’ve managed to get him checked over by her instead. Don’t expect care and attention if you attend here. The manor of people answering that buzzer needs great improvement

  • Tim Carr

Fantastic place! Ive needed their support a few times ove the years and they always come up trumps for me I recently injured myself and knew i needed to see a doctor so rang 111 who escalated my concerns directly to Wharfdale so that I could avoid a lengthy wait for an xray at hospital and called me to book me in when the team were able to see me This was a very and positive experience When i arrived the waiting room was rammed but I was greeted by polite and unflustered professional receptionists and treated very promptly and discharged all with an hour

  • Ann Houghton

My husband was admitted there on the 13 of July 2023 on arrival in the carpark was like a building site dnt get me wrong the views are stunning but some of the staff I talked to didn't seem bothered and didn't know my husbands allergy which in my opion thats not good plus according to them my husband was a single person there's no were to put clothes away plus fir a hospital setting some of the staff had heavy makeup on false eyelashes which is not allowed when you work with patients I definitely if I had known he was going there I would have refused

  • Josh Smith

I am incredibly disappointed with the rudeness of staff today. I turned up with a bad cut to my hand and potential nerve/tendon damage and when the buzzer was finally answered an incredibly rude receptionist told me to “go somewhere else”. Didn’t even ask what’s wrong. “Call tomorrow if it’s urgent”. I have just called the number and she keeps cutting me off when I ask for an appointment tomorrow!! In the ist only had good experiences here but now can’t even get through the door. Incredibly rude, unprofessional & passive aggressive receptionist

  • Carl Wood

Imagine been turned away after experiencing really bad chest and abdominal pains, got there at precisely 10:36, the young Asian women receptionist who seemed to more bothered with the conversation that she was having with the security guard neither of them even seemed to be concerned about why I was actually there for or even tried to help me other than to ring 111 joke right, I explained that I’ve already done that hence the reason I was at the hospital on the advice of 111…. I then had to travel 42 minutes to another hospital

  • Francis ZAMANI

I was recently admitted to Ward 1 at Wharfedale for a day-case procedure. From the moment I arrived I was treated with respect and consideration by every member of staff with whom I came in contact. Nurses, assistants, theatre staff and medical staff were polite, and explained in detail everything that would happen during my time in theatre. It was a really pleasant experience and I have reported this to friends and family. Thank you Ward 1 for all you did for me. Frances Mary Zamani, Leeds 6.

  • jane coates

Arrived at 7pm ( shuts at 11pm ) was told by a lady through a buzzer outside minors , we are not taking in anymore walk ins today as we are run off our feet , never asked what the problem was ! 4 cars in the whole car park 4 !! Like a ghost town. Told go to ring 111 or go to an a&e Spoke to 111 they said that they couldn’t believe we were not seen by them. Very poor and not helpful at all quite clearly not a walk in centre as it reads on the nhs website .

  • D W (WalterPPK)

On recommendation I visited this hospital for the minor injuries department after fracturing a finger. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The receptionist was really nice, very welcoming. The waiting time was very short, less than half hour, even with 3 others waiting prior to me. There's plenty of parking and the charges are reasonable. The care I received was excellent. I'd highly recommend visiting this hospital above the rest in and around Leeds.

  • L Bedford

I had an outpatients appointment at Wharfedale hospital on Friday 4 February. This was rearranged at the last minute from LGI and I am glad it was because from the moment I walked in I was put at ease and treated with excellent service from all the staff not just the doctor carrying out the procedure, although he was brilliant. Cannot praise them enough, they were all so caring and the hot chocolate and biscuits before I left was most welcome.

  • martine lachaud

I popped in yesterday for an X-ray. By mistake I crossed the outpatient hall and I was surprised and deeply upset to see a full waiting room as well as a queue composed by persons unwearing masks! As a French lady with friends in Spain, Germany, Italy , Portugal, Greece.... .... where masks are still wearing in medical places I thought it’s scandalous. Are you surprised that Uk has the worst deaths rate of all these countries?

  • emma richardson

Absolutely disgusted at my treatment today. Small but deep stab type cut done with a manky farm knife. Explained this to the doctor said that I dont want to waste time but I am worried for risk of infection. He said.come down. Got there with no means of paying for parking so was quite upset and didn't know what to do for the best. Doctor was rude and patronising to be. Wasting time in covid times .

  • charles flegg

My first time at this hospital and can only speak on the Endoscopy Unit, here I was met by very friendly and professional staff who made me feel at ease and relaxed at all times. Seems strange to say considering the procedure I was there for, but I enjoyed my time in the unit. If this is the normal everyday standard I will have no hesitation in going back.

  • Paul Wright

The staff at this hospital demonstrated a selfish lack of care and empathy towards an 11 old boy who presented at the minor injuries clinic with a badly cut finger. Despite it being 30 minutes before closing we were told they did not have time to see him. Appalling Jobsworths who thought only of their own selfish needs and preferences!

  • George Barnsley

A fantastic service from professional and helpful staff. We were in Otley on holiday when my wife took suddenly ill. We were treated incredibly well and immediately seen. Friendly, courteous ladies in reception. Treated by nurse Fiona in such a professional manner who made my wife feel at ease right away. Thank you all so much

  • Mandy MandyH

Easy and reasonably priced parking. Friendly and helpful staff in the Endoscopy department. My father-in-law was seen ahead of his appointment and it took exactly as long as the staff said it would, enabling me to have a coffee in Otley and come back to pick him up 90 minutes later. Thank you all very much.

  • Sean Whelan

Wharfedale Hospital resembles a Workhouse rather than a NHS hospital. Hardly any nurses, have yet to see a doctor in 3 weeks of visiting a relative. The treatment of patients borders on assault. Regularly hear patients screaming at the rough treatment they receive from staff. A disgraceful hospital.

  • Matthew Massey

BIG shout out to ward 1. Iv never experienced such nice pleasant people who do their upmost to help and make u feel better pre and post OP. It was a pleasure coming into ur ward and if I ever need an operation again I will have my fingers crossed I get sent here. So much respect thank you do much ❤

  • Alison Moore

Really impressed by the service this morning at the Minor Injuries Unit (son with a fractured hand). Staff were so friendly and helpful, especially nurse Emma. My son was assessed, x-rayed and had a cast put on within two hours, which was far less than I was expecting. Thank you so much.

  • krystle

I had keyhole surgery here and what a wonderful team. The health cares and nurses went above and beyond to make sure I was OK. The consultant and anaesthetist came and sat with me and my family and talked things over. The hospital isn't a chaotic environment it's calming and lovely.

  • joe shortland

I had a operation minor carried out yesterday at the Wharfedale Hospital in Otley. I just want to say a huge "Thank You" to all staff who took care of me, and were all friendly, caring and very professional! Many thanks again to our loyal and the great people working in our NHS!

  • Keith Davidson

Great hospital, plenty of parking and staff were very friendly. Turned up 15 mins early for my X-ray and was seen within a minute of arriving. Staff were very pleasant and professional. Never been before but highly recommend this hospital if you have the option to attend.

  • Denise Dayman

What a joke! After being referred by 111 I wait for hours for them to phone me with an appointment. No call back. I ring them to chase up only to be sweetly told ‘sorry we forgot about you and now it’s too late to book you in’ - thank you so much for this, what a service!

  • Sean Whitehead

I spent 3 hours waiting to see someone at minor injury today. It was well worth the wait .the professional I met was fantastic . It was well worth the wait ,she had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen .she was brilliant well done to all the staff at the hospital

  • Elizabeth Holmes

Sunday 2pm attended Minor Injuries Unit told there was a four hour wait. RETURNED at 8pm to a locked door, then to be asked have I got an appointment? We are taking no more patients this was 8pm not 11pm. What a waste of time. How do you get seen at a walk in centre

  • Charlotte Emery

Just home after taking my very nervous daughter for her appointment. What an amazing staff you have in the Chevin ward! Mike on reception and Angela went above and beyond in their care and Dr Russell was absolutely fantastic. I cannot thank you enough. #lovetheNHS

  • Vicky Chort

My son had his blood taken and he's the one who insisted we write a review because he was so nervous but the staff made him feel immediately at ease. Very friendly, kind and professional, especially Karen who took his blood. We couldn't have asked for more!

  • Sue P

Excellent, professional and caring team in the Endocopy Unit when I had to have a colonoscopy, which I'd been dreading. They couldn't have done more to reassure me and look after me so well, before, during and after the procedure. Thank you all so much.

  • Debbie Chew

Just make sure you ring up the hospital first because a nurse rings you back to book you in. We just turned up & we waited in the carpark for a hour but that was our fault because we didn't know to ring. Lovely clean hospital & staff are lovely.

  • Misbah Wahid

The receptionist at the minor injuries was incredibly rude. Having to deal with a broken foot alongside rude and unhelpful staff was no fun at all. The coffee machine was broken and no real facilities at the hospital for out of hours patients.

  • Alexan B.

The Outpatient Department in general was very welcoming. The team that took care of my surgery was excellent. The Surgeon, Consultant and Nurse were brilliant and kind. Very professional. I was very impressed. Thanks to them all. Blessings

  • AL SON

Fist time at this hospital and really impressed by all the staff and eye surgeons. Very clean and tidy and look forward to my next eye surgery.Does not feel like a hospital but a private clinic. Well done to all the staff there

  • Rosie Babette

One has been to this hospital a couple of times for scans and it has been a great service. Plenty of car parking & nice location. My last scan was done in under 20 mins. Straight in, scan done at once then straight out. Sweet.

  • natasha

Receptionist told me to get my leg out so she could look when I refused she told me it “could be anything” and my 14 years as a nurse meant my Lyme disease self diagnosis was wrong . Sent away after 111 told me to go !?

  • grace baker

I attended minor injuries on Sunday morning and needed a tetanus injection. However, I was told that I could not have one as they had 'run out' and would not receive more supplies until the following Thursday/Friday!

  • Alan Coleman

Was seen this morning around 8.30 am by a nurse for a problem with pain down the side...just like to say how brilliant the staff were in every way in particular the nurse, she was exceptional...many thanks...

Lovely little hospital and nice to see a specialist nurse or doctor without having to go to Leeds. The wait in clinic is usually very quick and if there's a delay for any reason they are quick to update you

  • Bec Gilray

Lovely hospital, clean and tidy and about as pleasurable a visit as you can have fun hospital. Blood services are easy and convenient. To have to ring to book for minor injuries but can save a long wait.

  • Peter Raw

I Went For A Scan In The Radiology Department This Morning, I Could Not Have Expected A Better Welcoming. I Was A Bit Nervous But Everybody There Were Very Happy And Made Me At Ease. Thankyou.

Excellent care from James Meadows and the full team on the Endoscopy unit. I was made extremely comfortable in a slightly embarrassing situation. Very professional, friendly team. Thank you x
