White House Tour Memories I recently had the opportunity to take a tour of the White House, and it was an experience that I will never forget. The tour was well-organized, informative, and incredibly engaging from start to finish. As I approached the iconic building, I was struck by its grandeur and history. The White House is a true symbol of American democracy and seeing it in person was a surreal experience. The tour began with a brief history of the building, which was fascinating to learn about. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions about the White House's history and architecture. As we made our way through the various rooms, I was struck by the beauty of the interior design. Each room was decorated in a unique style, and it was clear that a great deal of thought had gone into the design of each space. It was also interesting to learn about the various functions of each room and how they are used by the President and his staff. One of the highlights of the tour was seeing the famous Oval Office. It was incredible to be standing in the same room where so many historic decisions have been made. Our guide shared stories about some of the most notable moments in the Oval Office's history, which made the experience even more memorable. Overall, I would highly recommend taking a tour of the White House. It's a unique opportunity to see a piece of American history up close and to learn about the inner workings of our government. The tour was well worth the time and effort it took to get tickets, and I would definitely do it again if given the chance.

Today was one of the most profoundly Inspiring days of my life! It was almost overwhelming. I was in the place where everything that is our Country has been done. The Power was Incredible. I am proud of the service I gave to my country. And today I was given the honor to walk the halls and be in the rooms that have witnessed the most important decisions made in our country. And even the world. It was humbling and exhilarating, scary and wonderful, and i was Proud! It's hard to describe what it was like. Everything was perfect, and in good working order. The people working were the absolute professionals and incredibly nice. I was able to be inside the building that has seen Elvis, Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Teddy Roosevelt, Mohammed Ali, the Queen of England, the Heads of State to almost every Nation since it was built. It has been burnt to the ground and re built but the walls have always been there. The walls have heard death and children playing. Goats have lived and dogs have played. every war except one has been played out in it. Peace has been kept and won, all for a simple idea. "For the People by the People." I saw the desk that was used to sign the Civil rights act and help organize NASA. National parks were made on it and Nixon resigned. Winston Churchill was there and the room that witnessed the death of Osama bin laden and Benghazi. Terrible and Amazing things happened in it and it made me feel...everything! I was in the White House! IT WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME

On Sunday, November 26, 2023, I went to pay my respects to one of our Former great First Lady's Eleanor Rosalyn Carter, who passed, wife of Former President Jimmy Carter, and to place my signature in the Memoir Book. There was a 11x14 beautiful photo of her that stood on an easel, I wrote: "A Rose Will Always Be A Rose" May You Rest In Peace (R.I.P) I have been in DC all my life and had never taken the time to visit or even aware that there was another extension for the public to view White House history. I had discovered it, long before now. It was amazing. I loved the arrangements of all the pictorials and videos of what I call the Life of the White House which displayed wonderful captions of the President's and their families. With a view or little taste of some taking care of local and world affairs. Leisure visits and fun with people, when life didn't have to be taking so seriously, but they could smile. In my witnessing of the President's; it's always good to see them out of the political world for a minute....like a black and white photo, where in contrast you actually see more detail as opposed to color which hides, there in lies real people.

The White House was dressed up beautifully for Christmas. Our trip was easy fun and stunning. We requested our tickets three months prior through our representative. We showed up 1 hour early to the White House Visitor Center, where we discovered that the entrance is across the street. The White House Visitor Center was a great place to start, with a 12 minute informative video, models and Miniatures of the White House, and artifacts with information about the life in the White House. We also picked up several gifts for family members at the gift shop at the White House Visitor Center. 30 minutes prior to our appointed visit time we made our way to the security entrance across the street from Pershing Park. There are three separate screening areas, but all were easy and non-intrusive. The White House itself was fully decked out for Christmas. It looked and smelled like the holidays. The tour is self-guided, but there are Secret Service agents everywhere who are very friendly and willing to provide information about the room in which they're posted. We highly recommend this tour for anyone.

They have one really obnoxious and condensending security guard (who knows what her title is) that hides behind the conveyor belt during screening. We were there in June, as We walked into a darker small room from a bright hot day after a long walk from our hotel. I was still disoriented from the change in lighting. There were no greetings, no instructions, just obnoxious yelling to rush our family through. We had kids and things with us, without anyone behind us but she kept on yelling to rush us through. Two other security guards were nicer but were afraid of the loud mouth older one so they just silently unhelpful. To be honest there's nothing here to worth the hassle of dealing with this lady and ruin your vacation. I'd skip it. Will never return.

This is the place to start your public tour of the White House. It's administered by the National Park Service and Secret Service. You need to get tickets well in advance via a member of Congress - either your US Senator or US Representative. Once you get in line, they have security screenings like at the airport. The staff is friendly and accommodating to tourists. Once inside, you can walk around at your pace through designated areas of the White House (east wing). They have a small gift shop inside the White House as well; it's at the start and you won't come back in that direction so shop when you see it. It's overall an amazing experience and a must do when visiting Washington DC!

The White House, located in Washington D.C., is an iconic symbol of American democracy and a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The architectural beauty and historical significance of this presidential residence are awe-inspiring. The guided tours offer a glimpse into the rich history and political heritage of the United States. The meticulously maintained gardens and grounds surrounding the White House provide a serene atmosphere for visitors. While access to the interior may be limited, the exterior view is still impressive and makes for great photo opportunities. The White House stands as a testament to the country's leadership and is a symbol of the democratic values it upholds.

The White House Visitor Center is a good place to visit before the official White House tour. There is a lot of historical artifacts, interactive displays and exhibits about the White House, former Presidents and their families and also about the current First Family. It takes about an hour to an hour and half to go through everything in detail. The restrooms are outdated but clean and the security check is quick. There is a wonderful gift shop where we got a lot of trinkets and presidential ornaments. We also got our junior ranger badges and stamps for our passports. Keep in mind that bags are not allowed inside so do your shopping after your White House tour. The center is open between 7:30am and 4pm and there is no entry fee.

The historical aspects of the visit were great. But honestly, the place needs to be upgraded. Don't get me wrong. There is quality in vintage items, but the WHOLE house?? I can't imagine entertaining foreign dignitaries there. Again, I understand that it's a historical site, but I was unimpressed. I hope the residential suite is a bit more upgraded for its residents and employees. I mean...if you want to go just to SAY you went...have at it. Three stars because I got to go somewhere only a few people have gone. But...yeah, I stand by my review. For what we went through to get IN the place, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

The majority of the interactive exhibits were out of order/broken. The one about the president's food had disgusting old packing tape holding pieces together. The gift shop said they hadn't bothered ordering more National Park patches when they ran out. No docent around to answer questions. When we asked the one park ranger sitting at their desk we didn't have tickets what could we do about seeing the White House, he dismissed us letting us know we should have asked our Representative weeks ago. No suggestion about here's a great viewing spot or most folks get a great pic here. Horribly underwhelming experience.

One of the best experiences I've ever had, I've always seen the White House in movies and now personally I was very enchanted. The place is great and well organized. You need to schedule the visit, they have private and public tours (the private tour you need to know someone from inside the White House to help you take the private tour) but the public tour is also good. Need US ID or passports for tourists. If you come to DC for sure the white house is one of the best attractions to visit. if you want to know more about Washington DC follow me on instagram. @claudiophotographyeua.

A small and pleasant, though crowded museum. Perhaps other attractions in the area are more elaborate, though given the importance and history of the location, it is worth going to when visiting the capitol. If you want to tour the building itself, tickets have to be obtained ahead of time from your representative, so plan in advance. The entrance to the tour is not at the visitor center itself, but the staff here can direct you. Also, if you go on the tour, you cannot bring any bag or purse. Again, the staff at the entrance can direct you to a local hotel where you can check your bags.

Expect to spend a couple of hours here. We walked in without a reservation time and we were still able to get tickets for the next tour, for which the wait was only 15 minutes! The orientation movie was an amazing and very interesting history lesson and all packed into 13 minutes! Just one FYI...when they say NO food or drinks can be brought into the visitor center, they are not kidding! But don't throw out your water bottle! Just pour the water out and keep your empty bottle, because after the tour, you're allowed to fill it back up! Also, if you're not coming with a bus load of people, there are more than one set of visitor entrance doors. Plus the one from across the street...

One of the best moments in my life time. Felt something achieved whenever i see these photo which were taken around the white house. It’s a dream for everyone to visit the white house once in their lifetime. I am proud that i made it. This place is protected by government forces much more than what you think. It seems to be walkable and just feel the experience but it is secured in its own way. Building structure of WH and the other places are excellent. Definitely you will face the difficulty while looking around for the car parking area. I visited during summer vacation and oh man, this place is full of crowd. Overall a wonderful experience.

  • Stephanie Mott

We had inside tour visit. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes self guided tour. Taken pictures of Red room, China room, Green Room, Blue Room etc. Please note, you can not take anything inside of the White House such as bags, purses, strollers, tinee-tiny bags, camera, recording devices. Do have your ID'S or Passports. If you forget and bring items that are not allowed, go directly across the street to the Marriott Hotel, they have small lockers at a small fee per hour. You can only see the entire White House from the outside.

We did not take the White House tour but we did explore the visitor center. Be prepared for a wait to get into the building as you pass through security level screening. The movie was good but it focused mostly on contemporary presidential and family life in the White House through the words of former Presidents and family members. I would have likeed to see more on the earlier history of the White House. There were many exhibits that tells the story of the White House. Also, the Rangers were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions.

We apparently were quite fortunate to be able to get into the White House on this trip as we'd put a request in for the tour less than a month before our vacation and I'd heard you'd need to request a tour several months in advance. Security is tight, as one could imagine, so be sure to follow all the prescribed rules very carefully. The security stationed around the home are quite friendly and informative, giving the history of each room in which they're stationed to all who ask. Our timing was great, as we got to see the presidential motorcade leaving right as we showed up.

The White House Visitor Center offers a fascinating glimpse into the heart of American democracy. Through interactive exhibits and historical artifacts, it provides insight into the presidency, the First Families, and the iconic White House itself. While not the actual residence, the center's immersive displays and informative guides offer a unique educational experience. From learning about the history of the building to gaining an understanding of the presidential role, it's a must-visit for those curious about the nation's leadership and its impact on the world stage.

  • Shaun K.

Very educational about the history of the White House. There are plenty of artifacts from the White House to look at. It could use a bit of updating, as some stuff clearly had not been updated since President Obama. Overall, I would block out an hour and a half, maybe two, to get through it. It is actually across the street from the White House and has pretty strict, airport like security. There is a decent sized gift shop as well but it seemed a bit expensive. They do sell WH Christmas ornaments, which were pretty ornate and a nifty little souvenir.

  • Michael

The White House Visitor's Center is a joke. Rude and nasty security that is far more stringent than anything we experienced at the actual White House (where the security personnel were friendly and polite). This is not the White House, but you'd think it was because of the TSA-type security gauntlet you'll have to pass through. Empty out your pockets, remove your belt, have security personnel yelling at you the whole time. Absolutely not worth the time.

Truly came in here just to use the restrooms, but had a great time here! The gift shop is really nice with a great variety of items with many different price points. There is a lot of historical information throughout the visitor center. Great place to stop! Going through all the security before entering didn't make a lot of sense to me just for a visitors center, but staff were kind and explanatory. Bathrooms were in nice shape, properly clean and well maintained. Great place to stop before (or after) heading to the White House.

I wanted to rate this higher … but it was very disappointing. The park across from the White House was dismal and embarrassing - totally unkept and a place for homeless to camp out. Honestly, this place felt dangerous. It was a dump. Because of the history, I wanted this place to be awesome - but it just wasn’t. I’m glad I went, but it’s not worth staying. Note: We did not tour inside the White House.

Security is very rude, started yelling at us as soon as we walked in to put our phones away. Having to partially undress and get dressed in a public gift shop area is extremely unreasonable. We came to spend money at the gift shop but left without buying because the staff was so rude. I understand and appreciate security but there is such a thing as being a respectful person. Especially when there was no one behind us in line.

Did not know it was run by the National Park system. We had the kid get national park White House badges. I take off the pin and add a magnet to turn it into a souvenir. We did all of our educational tours on the week day. Don't recommend going on the weekend. We were there on a Thursday at 9:30a and went right in. We walked by on the weekend and there was a line out the door at 9:30a

The displays were stunning. The store inside offered high quality souvenirs and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. It would be a five start visit if it was for the extremely rude security guards that failed to greet guests and talked with an aggressive and unprofessional manner. Additionally, the one guard was chilling with airpods in....not a professional appearance when working.

Very cool place and I wish it was advertised better. Once you find it it is a great museum, full of information about the beginnings of the White house. Also it tells of the evolution the building went throw over time. Cool artifacts that show the people who interacted with America, old house hold items that were used to entertain guests and old furniture the past presidents sat on. Pretty quick museum over all in comparison to all the other museums at the National Mall.

  • Kia N

We went to the Visitor Center for a field trip. We learned about various trees, how to take measurements, and other cost effective benefits of the trees. The kids had a great time. Ms. Langley and her team were very informative and patient as the students explored and discovered the various trees. Inside we got to explore the Visitor Center. We watched a short movie about inside the White House. We also got a chance to check out the interactive activities.

  • Virginia Carter

Everyone was friendly except one security guard at the visitor center who needs her bad attitude adjusted. Even when she was greeted with a smile and friendly hello, she did not even acknowledge nor crack a smile and was short tempered. Other than her, everyone else was so friendly and were full of information. We enjoyed the tour.

Interesting and varied displays. Not as much content as I thought there would be. Due to our group's early entrance time, we visited the White House before walking down the the visitors center. Even the hallways in the White House have been a part of history and the entire place is a museum. It would have been nice if the we could have reversed the order. We would have had more background information before stepping into the White House.

While we didn't really plan to visit the White House Visitors Center, it was an enjoyable experience. We we're actually just looking for a rest room and we were told by the White House Park staff to go to the White House Visitor Center. This place is free to visit and has many interesting item to see that once belonged inside the White House or were once gifts to previous US Presidents from other nations. I would recommend coming here.

  • Liz Mitchell

The White House wasn’t open for tours the week of our visit so this was the next closest thing. It’s small but has lots of information about the history of the White House. Plus it’s air conditioned and has a small gift store. It’s actually located across the street from the White House. And not part of the tour.

Waste of time. You'll spend more time going through security than the actual tour. You get to see the State Dining Room, Red Room, Green Room, Blue Room, and that's about it. If you want to say that you've been in the White House, go for it. But if you want to actually see anything substantive, skip this one.

As far as I know, there is not an actual visitors center. Be advised, you must get passes months in advance and pass a background check to go on the tour.

Really well done visitor center! We got junior ranger badges, and visit the gift shop. Which had a large array of books; as well as other trinkets! The exhibits are cool and show different obscurity’s of presidents and events. I really enjoyed the history of the White House and presidents! There is a security check to get it, but food and drink are allowed in. The bathrooms lacked quality, but could be fixed with some TLC!

The visit to the white house is a self guided tour, it's very small, it's like walking through a museum. There is nothing personal about the White House. There's a small store inside with simple gifts you can purchase, throw blankets, ornaments, cards etc. If you know your going to visit DC it's worth it to say you've done it!

Interesting enough but can't write a review for the White House... Limited entrance, of course, buy tickets well in advance. No beverages or bags of any kind allowed in. You go through three check points so pack light and the gift shop is at the beginning so you have to carry everything with you. Of course the rooms and art are beautiful. I have never seen silk walls. The secret service is super knowledgeable.

  • Buzz Hundley

Great tour. It's humbling to think about all the history that has occurred in that building. Don't be afraid to try to get in earlier than your assigned time. A Park Ranger gave us that advice. We had an assigned time of 12:30 on a Thursday and got in at 10. That really helped us with the rest of our day.

Well done National Park Service center that gives an excellent orientation to many aspects of the White House. Give yourself at least 45 minutes to enjoy it before your tour of the White House. Excellent gift shop. Get your tickets for a tour of the White House through your local Senator or state representative. We were so lucky to score tickets that have to be booked several months in advance.

If you not able to get into the White House tour there is the Whitehouse visitors centre which is a fantastic insight into the workings of the Whitehouse. There is lots to see and there is even a gift shop. The room itself is worth looking at too. The staff here are fantastic and friendly. they are also very knowledgeable about the history of the Whitehouse

Once in a lifetime experience. If you are lucky enough to get tickets, you must go tour the Whitehouse. We stopped at the welcome center first before the tour. They let a handful of people in at a time so there can be a long line. Was very, very cool to see. Had many hands on things to see and easy to keep kids entertained. There is also a giftshop inside.

  • Danny Brown

I really enjoyed the tour but the only thing that disappointed me was that the tour was not long enough. It is more or less a self-guided tour but there are a Secret Service agent in each room to answer any questions you may have. Wished we could see more but we knew that was not possible because of security concerns. We would recommend this tour.

  • Matt G

Outsourced security staff were rude to everyone. Pretty funny really. If you hate your job, you should probably find another one. Looks like US Park Service hired them. You guys may want to visit in plain clothes to see how rediculous they act to people. Really bad reflection on the entire experience. Gift shop was cool. Lots of neat ornaments.

We toured the White House on 3/25/23, and it was a highlight of our trip to DC!! Getting the tickets was a bit of a hassle, but worth it in the end. The Secret Service agents were helpful and friendly throughout the tour, answering all our questions. The Visitor Center was interesting too, but the actual White House tour is the show-stopper!

We had a nice time at this museum. There is a Junior Ranger Badge for the President's Park, and they also give you the White House badge. Great place to fill in some time in between other sights; security was super efficient, and the museum itself has a fairly small footprint.

We just loved the whole area around the White House. The building is gorgeous and we were lucky that we had a sunnu day with blue skies during our visit. We were not able to get inside and join a tour, but we really enjoyed our views from both the north and south sides.

Nice visitor center with much information about the White House (presentation boards, information boards, cinema show and so on). A gift shop is also on site where you can buy a lot of souvenirs and other things. At the entrance you have to pass a security check.

The White House always looks bigger on postcards or on television than it is in reality. Around the White House there are many government buildings. The presence of the Secret Service cannot be overlooked in the whole neighborhood.

Small museum. If you want to visit really white house, you have to reserve your ticket 3 month ago, that's what the people from the visitor center told me .

You can get all kinds of knick knacks and gifts from here. You can't buy them online. So, it's something special that really shows support for the White House! They have an amazing Lego White House model on display for Christmas. It's ADORABLE!

Security was a bunch of a-holes. But once inside, the place had a bunch of cool memorabilia. Store was alright also but expensive. Bathrooms were very clean.

It’s alright, nothing special when you visit, I guess unless you live there it’s like visiting someone’s home and they are not there!

This is a lovely visitor centre with very interesting information to read and view. Definitely worth the stop in if in the area. Also, like nearly all places we went to in Washington, the staff were excellent.

The hostile and surly security guards make TSA agents look like contenders for Miss Congeniality. The experience left a bad taste in our mouths that ruined the rest of our visit.

So many things were broken. The restrooms were filthy and there was even a pair of underwear on the sink. A couple from another country were laughing about what a joke we are.
