Be careful taking your child to first year prep. Teachers and teacher aides treat your child like there is something wrong with them if they simply don't like them. They don't stop to consider if their teaching ability is the reason they cannot communicate effectively. Children should not be subject to scrutiny due to harmless facial expressions, body language and a lack of attention. This is something most children at this age have and it is the job/expertise of the teacher to remain compassionate and inclusive whilst teaching. Sidelining a child and labelling them as having "problems" that need to be checked out with a specialist or similar practitioner without any real concrete evidence is unprofessional. It also conflicts with the policies/code of conduct based on the legislative and regulatory bodies within the education department.
This was the school I went to prep to year six. Honestly the principal in 2010 was probably the best the school had, Shame they got rid of him. As soon as he left the whole school went to hell. The drop off zone is a nightmare, teachers don’t even teach and is the reason I failed many classes for YEARS, students are disrespectful, all they care about is sport, bullying is not handled and much more. The only good teachers I had was grade three and five. I can’t really remember there names but they have impacted my life. I don’t recommend this school. I have friends siblings that go there and even they say it’s horrible. When I was there in year 5 the school was egged which should tell you what you need to know. There are limited teachers that actually helped as I said which where year 3,6 and the indigenous support teacher
We have been directly associated to Wondall Hight’s State School for the past 3 years and couldn’t be happier. Our eldest son (grade 2) has been well supported and continually encouraged to push himself in his literacy year on year. Our youngest is in his first year of prep and with the support of his amazing teacher & teachers assist, he has grown so much in just 6 months. The school has great onsite facilities in addition to WOSHC (before & after school care) which has evolved dramatically over the past 2 years. We have found the principle, deputies, and all teaching staff approachable and engaging and the communication with families through the year has been amazing. We highly recommend Wondall Heights State School.
Fantastic school with dedicated and approachable staff. Passionate leadership team who are willing and prompt to address any issues (however minor). Large green spaces, on-site pool, before and after school care options. Son #1 is in year 2 and has made some great friendships, Son #2 starts prep next year. Highly recommend.
