Komfo Anokye Sword site is located at Bantama in the Ashanti region of Ghana in West Africa. It is inside modern day Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). In the year 1695 the Kings of Ashanti states gathered together to choose a common leader to rule the mighty and formidable Ashanti empire. Every king came with their black stool that represent their rulership and authority. After consensus has been built and understanding prevailed, they then decided to call upon the gods and ancestors to choose the leader to rule the empire. Komfo Anokye the then Chief Priest of the empire prayed and call upon the gods to choose their leader. In the process a golden stool believed to be from the gods and the other world appeared in the sky above them. It was said the King on whose feet the golden stool will land is the chosen king of the great Ashanti empire. Nana Komfo Anokye further called the golden stool to the ground to land on the chosen king. The golden stool landed at the feet of Otumfour Osei Tutu (I). Nana Otumfour Osei Tutu (I) is the king chosen by the god to rule the Ashanti empire. Now it is time to make commitment and vow to the new king chosen by God, so all the other states black stool were collected and was buried in the ground as their vows were made and the sword was dropped to seal buried black stool in the ground since then no one has been able to withdraw it. Since 1695 no one has been able to dig the sword Komfo Anokye dropped into the ground.

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site is located at the premises Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. According to history, the chief priest Okomfo Anokye who conjured the Ashanti Golden stool from the skies had a covenant with the chiefs and pushed the sword into the soil, he predicted that the site would be a place of healing. That was the main reason for building the Hospital at that particular place. It is believed that the moment the sword is uprooted, that will be the end of the Ashanti Kingdom. When you get there after paying the entrance fees, the tour guide welcomes you and offers you stools which you will sit on to listen to the full history of the Sword, the Symbols of the Ashanti Kingdom and so much more. The Ashanti Kingdom is enriched with so many cultural symbols and their meanings. #DelaAkafia

The Okomfo Anokye sword site is located in a small, clean, modestly decorated building within the grounds of the Okomfo Anokye Hospital. Unfortunately, the history of Okomfo Anokye and the huge bustling hospital cause the site to be somewhat anticlimactic. I was enthralled because I was already excited to learn more about this amazing man and mystical story. However, I can imagine the average tourist might find it subpar. Improvements can be made by; making sure the video is working, hanging all art on wall or display case, more animated and enthusiastic guides, perhaps subtle music in background and tourist items for purchase. If you are already in the area I would recommend you stopping by for the history of Okomfo Anokye and to see the second largest hospital in Ghana, but don't make a special trip just for this one site unless it has special significance for you.

  • Baba Yakubu

It is an historical site. People from all walks of life visit this sword. It is rumoured that Okomfo Anokye, the greatest traditional priest to ever live in the Ashanti region, 'plantsd' this sword here. And ever since, nobody has been able to remove this sword from here. It has therefore been here for ages and a pride to the Ashantis. The teaching hospital is built around this sword, thus it's name OKOMFO ANOKYE TEACHING HOSPITAL. It was exposed to rain and sun for a long time but one could see no change to this sword. A nice structure has been built around it recently giving it a facelift. The place now is under 24 hour surveillance and is a tourist center. It is right at the center of the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Very congested hospital with tight security at the various entrances. The accident and emergency unit is more advanced than the common government hospitals that I know with a Special Ward unit that gives preferential private treatment for patients of high caliber and social class. They have a folderless system which makes it easier for easy accessibility of information by every department without interference. This also helps with easier and smoother transfer of patient data and history from department to department. One thing I don't like about them is how difficult it is to get a bed for a patient and to get a doctor to attend to patients at the special ward.

I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Konfo Anokye sword site, and it was an unforgettable experience. The historical significance of this place is awe-inspiring. The sight of the sword embedded in the ground, as a testament to the legend of Konfo Anokye, left me in awe. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, providing a captivating narrative that transported us back in time. It's a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone eager to connect with Ghana's rich cultural heritage

The ‘unmovable’ Sword of the OKomfo Anokye remains in the grounds of the OKomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he pushed it into the ground, almost 300yrs ago. It is believed the OKomfo pronounced that no one would be able to remove the sword, and so it has remained in spite of attempts. The sword marks the spot where the Golden stool initially descended from the sky and legend has it that the state would collaps should it ever be pulled out of the ground.

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site is historic site that is worth visiting. It is located inside Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) at Bantama, Kumasi. The tour guide was friendly. He answered every question. He has a good knowledge of the history of the Asante Kingdom. The planted sword is a symbol of Unity and Authority in the Asante Kingdom. I recommend this historical site to anyone who visits Kumasi.

  • Edward Osei Kofi

It is the place where Okomfo Anokye (thenFetish Priest who together with King Osei - Tutu created the Asante Kingdom) planted a sword on the ground to signify the unity of the Ashanti people. Till date, none or anything has been able to pull the sword out from the ground. The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is located on the premises. It is a must see when you visit Kumasi or the Ashanti Region.

A historic place to visit to learn know the history behind the 11 black stools, the sword, the golden stool and the history of Asante kingdom. It was a great lesson to know the root of our dynamic culture and asanteman as awhole. I enjoyed the lesson this morning and am blessed to be there. I must repeat this with a group to learn the history behind the sword and the history of Okomfo Anokye.

History has it that the fetish priest Okomfo Anokye planted the sword in the ground during one durbar to unify the Asante kingdom. He is reported to have said no one can ever uproot the sword and that several attempts to uproot it have failed. A visit to this tourist site will give you a rich knowledge of the history of the Asantes.

  • Isaac Dickson

Historical site of the Asante located in the heart of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The sword is believed to be have planted in the ground over 90 years ago by the Fetish Priest (Komfoɔ) Anokye and no amount of force or effort was able to draw it from the ground. The site is opened as a tourist site on weekdays and Saturdays

  • Nana Sarpong

The legendary sword site. Right at the heart of Komfo Anokye teaching hospital. An easy place to site. Reception not so enthusing but not bad either. There are various pictorial displays of Ashanti culture and songs. Would be a good place to visit either as a group or individuals to enrich your Ghanaian cultural knowledge.

  • Cassandra Amponsah

The tour guide was knowledgeable and kind. The facts he shared were intriguing and the pictures too. However this is place needs renovation and is not worth your money. It’s a very short tour like 10 mins or less.

A historic site, portraying the true rich cultural heritage of Ashanti Kingdom, Ghana and Africa at large. You would be marvelled and amazed upon hearing how the sword got stuck on the ground for so many years till date. Located just around the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

  • Hubert Owusu

This is a truly historic place. It has the famed Okomfo Anokye sword stuck in the ground. It should be magical, but this site has been badly preserved. It is unceremonious, and leaves you with a deep regret for wasting your time, and money. Highly not commendable.

  • Sandra Adjei-Twum

I loved the history, culture and experience. The curator was very insightful and captivating. I would love to return and bring my family members to share such a wonderful moment.

The history and spiritism in this very simple site is very rich. It's not so much the scenery of the sword but the spirit within the place. It's located on the premises of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, whose construction was itself prophesied by Okomfo Anokye.

  • Oheneba Kuffour

This Sword site is the story behind the name "Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital." The hospital got it's name from the famous Fetish Priest and friend of the first King of Asante. The sword signifies the strength of the Asante Kingdom which can never be uprooted.

A bit tricky to find. We went to the Palace and learnt about this so it was only right that we visited the sword site afterwards. The tour guide was a little difficult to understand as he spoke softly and was wearing a mask.
