Went back a week later and they had fixed the issue with the lights and fixed the masking. Projection and sound were great. Easily one of best multiplexes in San Diego. Hopefully they don’t change it too much. Untouched from previous operator except the signs and the poster wall. For some reason management has decided to leave the auditorium lights on during the movie and they bleed light directly onto the screen making any night or dark scene unwatchable. I confirmed with management that the lights were intentionally left on. I also walked into all 14 auditoriums, every single one was showing a movie with the lights on. Hopefully it was just opening weekend issues. I got a refund and complained to amc Customer support.
My family and I were excited to return to the AMC UTC last Saturday after a long time away, and we were looking forward to "Oppenheimer." However, when we asked for a closed-captioning device for my aunt (who is hearing impaired), the young woman at the checkout couldn't find one that worked...and then claimed, "We've been having trouble with them." She sought out other employees, including her supervisor, for assistance, but apparently the devices either genuinely weren't working, or no one knew how to activate them. All employees were polite, but the theater's in inability to provide help for handicapped customers diminishes both the AMC chain and the UTC theaters in particular. You need to do better.
I don’t even think disappointed sums up my experience at this theater. Formerly Arclight Cinemas, it was my favorite theater. Theater was clean, inviting and always had me coming back Then AMC bought it, and as a A-list member, I thought why not? I was blown away in the worst way possible. Bathrooms were filthy and not taken care of, and the theater was even worse. Lots of hair and dust on the seats, grime inside the cup holder. I honestly just wanted a refund because it felt gross sitting on those seats. Staff were very welcoming, kind and refund - we did not notify the staff about the conditions of the theater because I didn’t want them to feel ashamed, because it seemed more of a management issue.
Generally speaking a pretty good theatre. I feel bad for the custodians since it's really easy to leave a lot of popcorn on the ground around your seat. Theatre food is, unsurprisingly, overpriced. I got a large tub of popcorn, which was a dollar more than the regular size (a little paper bag) for what seems like a ton more popcorn. It was for $10 though, and comes with a Sprite ad on the outside which makes it look like Sprite flavored popcorn or something. Theatre popcorn is very good because it's very buttery and salty, so who knows how much cholesterol and saturated fat I ingested that day. I left my mask here by accident but I'm too lazy to get it back. It was a cheap cloth mask so whatever
Honestly, the only reason I’m leaving a review for a movie theater is because this one caught me off guard. I know theaters have their nice rooms and their old rooms but I was not expecting this old. My fiancée and I went to see the newly released Barbie movie and we’ve been to many AMC theaters and generally speaking all the rooms are nice. However this screening room was older and generally crusty feeling. Cloth seats with seating numbers/aisles that were extremely difficult to make out. If you want to see a movie there’s not much you can do but I was expecting more for a $20 ticket is all.
Chairs are not the cleanest, but they are nowhere near nasty. I didn't see liquid spots on my seat or the adjacent ones, but some of them still have small food bits here and there. Most of the theater rooms are pretty small. Finding the entrance might be a bit tricky, so this may help: if you face the Bottega Italiana restaurant, make a left towards a short and wide alleyway. Walk through that alleyway, and you'll see a huge set of stairs on your right, leading up. The entrance is at the top of the stairs.
Quite disappointed. I was expecting upgrades as Arclight was one of the worst theaters in the area. There have been no upgrades, the seats are super old school, no recliners (which are pretty much standard these days). They also don't serve coffee, which is very surprising (especially for matinees). One plus is they did let me buy coffee downstairs and bring it in. I will stick with AMC la Jolla 12 just minutes away, hoping that they renovate this one and get it up to modern standards.
The theater is okay, it could use some auto soda dispensers to speed refills but its not a huge issue. The parking situation is atrocious. The gates cause a bottleneck to get in and out of the parking lots which makes being on time harder. And no one seems to know how to validate parking. We only got an extra hour so for a long movie we still had to pay $2. Which isn't a lot, but it just felt like a lame cash grab by the mall... and it makes the experience way worse...
It's OK, but was so much better when Arclight owned it. The main sign with all the movie times does not work, and it's the first thing you see when walking in. Also, the movie name signs on each theater don't work, so either you have to read the fine print on your ticket to know what theater your movie is in. It feels very self-service and impersonal, and not worth the price compared to other theaters that are bending over backwards to get your business.
It has the potential to be a good movie theatre! No recling seats which is a bummer and the theatre is sticky and just out right messy. Thank goodness the bathrooms were in pretty decent order. I just think they need to push their staff on the cleanliness standards a lot. Popcorn was delicious and their butter bar is cool as long as you don't have a Karen toe tapping you to hurry it up. Other than that I had a great time.
We attended a movie in theater 6 yesterday. The seats were uncomfortable and utterly filthy. Besides not having been vacuumed for an apparently long time, candy was smashed right into the fabric of the seats. The floor was also filthy. The entire place seemed like a ghost town. Barely any staff. The sound volume was good as was the temperature, attributing to the 1 star.
One thing I can say is that the fabric seats where dirty. This place had a validation machine for ur ticket but it did nothing once I checked out. I still had to pay which I'm confused why even have that. Went to see the new Little mermaid in theater room 11. Make sure to bring something for the seats to clean it. Cast crew where super nice tho.
Disappointed. This was opening week and they didn’t remodel still looks like Arclight Cinema, and they didn’t have much for concessions. Only popcorn, hotdogs and candy. I feel like they were unprepared and just wanted to open. Seats are the same not the recliner ones. One positive thing is that they do valid parking. Not sure if I will come again.
This is my favorite movie theater even back when it was arclight. It's very chill and a good vibe. There's usually very few other ppl in the movie theater because it's still a hidden gem. Five minutes prior to a movie we were watching it was completely empty so we took a picture of the theater. If you don't like crowds or groups, to here!
Overall not impressed, was so excited to have a movie theater close to home but it's like they slapped "AMC" on the front of the abandoned ArcLight and called it a day! Really need to renovate the theaters with the new recliner seating. Lobby, bathroom, and concessions were okay. Sound seemed kinda quiet in our theater which was odd.
We went on a Wed for matinee and basically had the entire theater to ourselves! The concession staff was very nice and the cleanup crew was helpful when he saw is struggling at the parking validation machine. It looked like they were training the summertime staff. (I haven't been to the movies in a theater for maybe 3+ years?)
Newer theater for amc but old theater in the mall. Rumors are they will upgrade to amc quality by the end of summer 2022. Make sure you park in the parking garage next to the gym it is the closest entrance and also bring your parking ticket and get validation mall let's you park 2 hours amc gives you an extra hour …
Not great at all. The employee wouldn’t let us in without a government issued ID even though we had several different forms of identification showing we were of age (college students). The employee wouldn’t have any sort of leniency with us at all. Not great at all. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. Go anywhere else.
The theater is clearly being mismanaged. We arrived and there were 5 people working that were sitting on chairs, on their phones. Then we went into the theater itself, it was so incredibly filthy we didn’t feel comfortable sitting down. The carpets are so gross. This place needs a completely overhaul.
Easy to get to, utc theater has paid parking even with scanning parking pass, movie theater was a slow night plenty of open seats but they didn't allow to lean back or recline which definetly brings down the value of tickets price but it was good theater audio and digital display could've been better.
This theater is average at best. Not the cleanest either. Will not go here again due to parking. You have to pay to park and pay to watch a movie. You can scan your parking ticket to get credit but i don't think it works. I scanned my parking ticket but still ended up paying the full price going out.
Atrocious is an understatement. The theater was filthy. It was too late to turn around and leave. I wish I'd read the reviews first. It was a late showing of THOR. I couldn't really enjoy the movie because I felt uncomfortable 99% of the time. The staff is seemingly nice!!!
I was excited when I heard the movie theater would open back up at UTC and being AMC and being in La Jolla I was expecting more. It looks kind of dingy, and the seats are not comfortable. You're better off going to AMC 12 a few miles away, same price and nicer all around.
I bought two tickets to the discounted kids movie. It got canceled last minute due to some issue with the screen. The staff offered to let us watch a different movie, but as there we no other kid movie playing I just requested a refund. They refused to refund the fees.
Simple, clean, and reasonably priced. They don't have reclining seats, but if a new movie comes out and you want to watch it opening week without sitting in front of the seat and overpaying, this is it, y'all. Also, they do parking validation for 3 hours.
I experienced the worst preview in this theatre... Sounds were on but the video wasn't but the worst part is that it took 3 complaints in the span of 15 minutes to get it working. I hope nobody experiences this in the future, such a disappointment.
Took my kids here for a matinee. The house lights came on in the middle of the SIXTH preview and stayed on through the entire movie. All this money and time and they can’t even provide a dark room. Two stars cause they did offer vouchers.
My least favorite AMC theater that I've been to. They dont have the self serve beverages and so we had to wait in a long line just to get a refill. They also don't officer Express pick up for Stub memebers like most other AMC theaters.
This was the first time that we went to the AMC UTC location. Full stadium seating in all the theater however unlike other locations the seats do not recline or we're not heated. Beautiful new decor. The MacGuffin bar is great
Staff was nice. Theater was clean and nice. Men's room had 3 of 4 urinals and 1 of 2 stalls out of order. Validation for parking didn't cover the full length of the movie, so had to pay. There are other theaters in the area.
I thought they re did this theatre… they most definitely have not. Old dirty seats, basics popcorn and candy. Out of a lot of things. The bathrooms were nice I guess…I won’t be back. The AMC down the street is much nicer.
For such an upscale mall, this has to be one of the worst movie theaters I've ever been to. Dated, dirty, terrible layout. This theatre sucks, there's better ones close by. Staff are nice though, this theatre just sucks.
The almost 30 minutes of AMC ads and previews shown after the published starting time were painful to sit through. I miss Arclight, who had a policy of limiting the number of previews to a much more reasonable level.
This theater needs serious renovation. Hard to believe they were allowed to open under the new management in such a rundown condition. As previously stated, the seats were uncomfortable, dirty and non-reclining.
Worst ever experience. Seats look like they are full of dust/dandruff... Remains of chewing gum, no recliners. This is a theatre right in the middle of a luxury Westfield UTC mall. Just one word... Pathetic!
I’m 19 years old and a college student and gave them every single piece of ID that I have and they STILL wouldn’t let me see an R rated movie (Don’t Worry Darling). Not coming here again- they were so rude
We loved the old Arclight theater, and the new AMC theater at UTC is essentially unchanged from ARclight. No problem with lighting, and the popcorn was great. So happy to have a movie theater back at UTC.
Standard AMC experience, really need to work on cleaning the studios better, it's a basic thing to do, and other AMC theatres can get it cleaner on a higher standards not sure why they cannot do the same.
Went to go watch J. WICK 4. IT WAS ok. Being that it's UTC I can't believe these seats don't recline or haven't been replaced. Poways seats are much nicer, same company. I hope they replace them soon
Met CEO Adam Aron at this newly converted/acuirred AMC Theater.....AMC shows movies in IMAX, Dolby, 3D and with great food and snacks! Try AMC Perfectly Popcorn available at Walmart! AMC TO THE MOON!
This theater needs more renovation and character. The concession stand is so plain (no coke freestyle or bar to top your popcorn with butter, etc) La Jolla AMC will always be the best AMC to go to
Limited hot snacks (they do have hot dogs) and after you sit through 1/2 hour of previews you'll need to pay for parking after your validation. Sunday Matinee pricing was very pricey too. So meh.
The picture and sound quality are good, nice atmosphere, truly tasty popcorn. Parking is a hassle and I prefer the reclining seats at other locations, but this is a decent theater overall.
The staff is nice but man, the place is dirty. The seats look dirty and the cup holders were full of sticky gunk and some of the armrests looked greasy. The chairs don't recline either.
A fancy mall. We had dinner at Javier’s which was nice, the prices are on the higher side but the food was worth it, great service too. The amc movie theater was nice too. …
Worst cinema experience ever. Paid huge amount of money to get the experience of dirty “abandoned” movie theater. Don’t go here if you don’t want to regret the money you spent.
Old and dirty movie theater not worth the price. For better quality, you can go to other local theaters where tickets are half the price and concessions a fraction of the cost.
Horrible theatre. Will never recommend anyone to go to this theatre. Filthy, dusty seats, with incompetent workers who don’t give a damn about resolving underlying issues.
Ava went above and beyond to help me get a ticket for the Taylor Swift showing on Oct.13th. She provided me with Amazing Service! Thank you again Ava! Sincerely, Rivk Diaz
Average movie theater. You are better off going to the dine in AMC. This one doesn’t have any reclaiming chairs or free refills for ICEE or regular drinks. Disappointed.
Limited options and no upgrades were made from Arclight. Also if you get popcorn they give you butter in to-go cups and the butter tasted so bad I threw my popcorn out.
Worse concessions experience. Untrained employees. Arrived 10 minutes before the movie; entered theater 10 minutes late (I was first in line at the concession stand).
The theater itself is fine but the location creates some unnecessary challenges. I also got the impression they're a bit understaffed and overworked.
I purchased an A list and tickets...being from out of state u would think it would be easy to find. Nope. Noone even could give the right directions
The theater is fine, a little old fashioned, no recliners. The validation, btw, was not accepted by the machine on the way out of the parking lot.
Was out of 805, didn’t have the gourmet popcorn, didn’t have the candy. Theater we went to was not cleaned from prior movie seats were gross.
Very Clean when I went. The movie and sound were perfect. Thank Goodness for 25 minutes of previews. You can never be late! Lol.
Nice clean theater. Staffing was short, but they were great and helpful. The parking structure offers plenty of parking.
Happy UTC has a theater grab your tickets in advance for good seats. Can’t sit anywhere like before …
The bathrooms are disgusting. Urine overflowing from the urinals! More than half the plumbing not even working.
Hoping it gradually gets renovated to feel like an AMC. This theater tends to show movies others don't.
The theatre is all right. The problem is that it takes forever for the movie to start. Too many adds
Theater is fine. Chairs are dated but ok. Bathrooms not clean and out of toilet paper.
Same AMC as any other, but very dirty. Looks and smells like they do not clean at all.
You can get your parking fully validated for the length of the movie, just ask inside
AMC took over the old arclight cinema. Nice but they don't have full recliner seats
Stadium seating, reasonably comfortable seats. Plenty of movies to choose from.
Clean, efficient- & don't forget to bring your parking ticket to validate!!!!!!
This is so ugly they her. I do not comeback. The theater in Poway is the best.
Nice place but their bartenders could use a little more coaching.
They really to calibrate their speakers, sound quality was poor.
It's conveniently located in the mall doesn't get any better!!!
Seats are not convertible and not leather like in AMC La Jolla
Needs reclining seats. Friendly staff made a good experience.
Nice little theater on Westfield UTC, i liked the experience.
Filthiest theatre I’ve ever stepped foot into. Truly shocking
Great popcorn. Comfortable seats. Swanky surroundings. A+
Is pricey , AMC Otay ranch is more nice and luxury
Very customer friendly staff. Clean establishment.
Clean with ample room in the seats. Nice theater.
Great place to watch movies..and it's in the mall
Seats needed cleaning by us before we sat down.
Not the least expensive AMC theater but nice.
Very nice. Too expensive for my blood. Wow.
Parking is too hard for a movie complex.
Seats are really dirty. Worst amc ever.
Ticket to paradise was a great movie
Nice clean theatre. Lots of seats
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Nice theater and helpful staff.
Bathrooms are horrific. Avoid!
Had a great time at the movies
no recliners rest is okay
The seats are so nasty.
Average movie theater.
Average movie complex
Chairs don't recline
Clean nice theater!
