"Great venue for athletics"
We had a good day here with great wheelchair accessibility, facilities and views. Sadly we found exiting the stadium an horrendous task as we were directed to the wrong park and ride bus queue, queued for almost an hour only to be told that this want the queue for the buses to the Blue Badge park and ride car park and nobody knew where the blue badge holders park and ride buses were. One supervisor steward was totally unprepared to use his Walkie talkie to help us. We went back to where we came from, luckily we were able to use a short cut and let through by a kind policeman and when an exceptionally kind steward saw us he asked if he could help, he told us to stay put, and went and found out where our buses where parked. He then proceeded to escort us to the stop and made sure we were on the bus before he left us. We will be eternally grateful for all of his help kindness caring and amazing attitude he showed when helping us and I can't thank him enough for saving our day at the Commenwealth Games.
I came here to see the Commonwealth Games. Lucky for me I had a relative down the road so I parked for free and walked 10 mins to the stadium. It was the first time I came here. There were plenty of helpers helping people cross the roads, guide you to the entrance, volunteers cheering the crowds with the banter while we made our way to go through security. There was so much security too, alot of armed police so you felt safe. There were so many food stalls but the queues were just too long. We only brought ice cream before entering the stadium. While watching the athletics, we did pop out for some hot drinks as it was cold. The stadium looks really impressive and modern. Shame England women's relay were disqualified but the evening was so entertaining, I am glad we came here to see this. Birmingham should be proud for hosting such a great sporting event.
I was lucky enough to attend the Diamond League Athletics meeting which was the official reopening of the stadium in May, and both the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony at the end of July and one of the CG athletics sessions the following week. I have to say the shuttle buses from the city centre worked extremely well on all these occasions, the stadium looked magnificent, with great views of the action from all of the seats I was allocated, and it was fantastic to be part of such wonderful events taking place in Birmingham. Oh, and well done the organisers on working with the the committee of Walsall Road Allotments, right next door to the stadium, to ensure that the plotholders could access the allotments and tend to the crops and resident cats, while the Games were on, brilliant, heartwarming stuff!
Living just a 10 minute walk away from Alexander Stadium and being that we've been to multiple athletic meets here before, I must say that having the 2022 Commonwealth Games here was a good idea. Today's croud was excellent, the weather is good, the atmosphere is excellent and the volunteers work their socks off and are absolutely brilliant, thank you. The bad points, I can't believe that all the food stalls were closed after the morning session had even finished. The only stall that was left open was the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games merchandise stall, that's ridiculous. I suppose the one good thing about those expensive food stalls closing early is that the three local pubs (The Church Tavern, The Tennis Courts and The Towers) all get new hungry customers to serve.
Great venue for athletics. Fab visibility. Plenty of places to buy food and refreshments. Toilet facilities and ambulance / first aid all there. Staff were so friendly and helpful. It's well laid out so it was easy to find my seat. The sound system is great. Really clear and great quality. It fills the stadium perfectly. My only gripe was that the large screens were actually too small..! It's a brand new stadium, maybe they should have spent a bit more on them. Would be a perfect upgrade. Alexander Stadium is on my doorstep so will be going there again.
Visited several times during the course of the Commonwealth Games. Each time I was in the temporary South stand. Seating was comfortable and while the stand was uncovered the excellent weather meant this was not an issue. Wide variety of food and beverage vendors available. Pricing was on the high side but not totally surprising. Volunteers were friendly and welcoming. Airport style security was in place at the time but it was quick and efficient
Volunteers were very helpful, atmosphere was out of this world, great set up, very smooth getting away to the shuttle buses. Down side, spent £80 for tickets, which when booked supposedly had a view of the finish, not direct but none the less we could see the finish. But on arrival found we were right around the first bend, and with no view at all. We spoke to people with cheaper tickets who had a great view, a bit of a downer on a great day
I visited this stadium back in 2018 and it was great. But now it is amazing! I went for the diamond league 2022 and it was so well organised, with staff everywhere ready to provide a helping hand. The facilities are excellent and the stadium offers a unique viewing experience that allows you to walk around and view different events throughout the day. The price of events held here are fantastic and it's always a great day out.
First visit and what a night to remember! Amazing to see track and field events and watch some top quality commonwealth games such as the 10,000 metres win by Eilish Mc Colgan for Scotland and the 100 metres women's sprint win by Elaine Thompson-Herah for Jamaica . Toilet facilities were stretched at times with a full capacity crowd of 30.000! Huge array of fast food outlets. Volunteers worked hard to keep the crowds moving .
Absolutely amazing venue, great buzz from huge crowd thanks to the additional seating for Commonwealth Games 2022. All the events ran on time and well organised. Ve ye had additional toilets due to Games, and additional food outlets. Food and drink was expensive and not worth the money. Overall though had a fabulous time at the event. Hope it gets to host more events of this type in future - it deserves to!
Amazing place. The only upset was that fact new seating had been installed on the ground level, blocking the views of all in the lower seatings of South Block!! The new seating appeared over night of Wednesday 27th July! At £140 a seat, (one of the higher priced seats), you would expect to have a clear view of the ceremony, not have to watch the screens. Shame really, the weather was perfect.
Visited for the spectacular Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Privileged to have been on the Technical Officials team at the Games. The creative team behind the ceremonies turned the stadium into a theatre and concert venue displaying the many facets of Birmingham's history and cultural diversity plus superb performances from International artists with local links and roots.
We had a fantastic experience at the commonwealth games this week. What stood out to us the most was how well the Alexander Stadium was organised. The sign postage was spot on. Plenty of enthusiast and friendly staff members/volunteers. The Park and Ride systems were brilliant. It was by far one of my greatest large event experiences. Of course the beautiful sky added to the ambiance...
A great day at a Sport Birmingham Schools Festival. Set up of the stadium is brilliant but it's my personal opinion that it is a shame that the site is not being used to it's maximum capacity. Lots of empty office spaces, no opportunity for school or business tours without paying. A huge shame for something with so much potential. The stadium nonetheless and grounds are fantastic
This stadium is brilliant! The commonwealth Games was a joy and pleasure to be able to spectate in and was indeed a spectacular spectacle! Traffic was handled brilliantly, the organization of staff was stellar, facilities, seats, blocks and ammendments were very easy to find and clearly labeled. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the commonwealth games!
Attended for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. Entering and exiting the stadium, including provided transport to and from the city centre, was well organised and efficient. There was a large quantity of food stalls which, despite being expensive, were of reasonable quality. Stands were temporary but had solid seats and provided good views.
Attended the opening of the commonwealth games. The stadium has been massively renovated. There is plenty of food and drink inside with food areas by the stands. From Noodles to Pulled Pork. There are toilets in the stands so avoid the porta loos outside. Stands have two sets so pass the first one to reduce queues. Overall a great night.
Just wow!!! Fantastic venue for the Commonwealth Games athletics. Extremely well organised queues both to get in and for shuttle buses back to the city centre. The new stand is wonderful, even the toilets are good! Special mention to the DJ doing the ‘queue disco’ - great atmosphere even when queuing for a bus in 25 degree heat!
Went to five athletics sessions here at the commonwealth games. Stadium is great, I had different seats each time and always a good view. Stewards were helpful and friendly. Food stalls were lacklustre and queues too much. The arrangements to get to and from the stadium were irksome and slow. But all in all well done Birmingham
Went to the Stadium for the dress rehearsal of the commonwealth games opening ceremony and couldn't believe the scale of it. Really massive venue with lots of seats. Easy to get to with public transport as there are lots of bus stops outside and it is walkable from One stop Perry Barr which I believe has a rail station.
Excellent completely redeveloped stadium, unrecognisable from the old Alex. Now a smart and modern venue to watch athletics, with a nice wide concourse through the stands and easy access to facilities. Still a bit of work in progress for the Commonwealth Games. Park and ride from Banks Stadium worked well too.
Fabulous stadium for athletics, but dismal catering facilities - just one bar open with one coffee machine for the U15 and U17 athletics championships where there were a lot of spectators. I queued 45 minutes for 1 drink. They didn't even serve lucozade or similar, which is ridiculous for a sports stadium!
Visited during the commonwealth games. Very happy with the organisation from when we arrived to when we left. Plenty of staff and signage available to make the experience as easy as possible. Good facilities in and around the stadium and a couple of gold medals for England topped off a brilliant day.
Great experience. Everything exceptionally well organised and laid out. Commonwealth Organisers have done a good job here. Plenty of open areas, great food selection, plenty of volunteer helpers and highly efficient shuttle bus service to and from. Oh and the competitions were pretty good too!!
Came for commonwealth games opening ceremony . What a show! Great performance at a great venue. Looks like facilities upgraded. Found navigating around site straight forward, and the views from where we seated allowed us a good view of the show on stage and inside the centre of the stadium.
The newly restored stadium for the Commonwealth Games is wonderful. Accessibility is excellent and good views from the accessible seats. Facilities are good too. Although we were there during the games so I don't know what it will be like after. Good transport links and parking.
Athletics wow!.... £70 million spent on what??!!!... Lots of temporary stands with scaffolding, not that wheelchair friendly and not covered??.... Gutted to see a great opportunity for the north of England wasted.... Head of British Athletics London by any chance??!!
A noisy stadium well above legal decibels. Commentators need to stop shouting down the microphone, as some people work from home, or people who work on allotments near and over a mile away go for peace and quiet, do not want to hear shouting! Think mental health.
Absolutely fantastic time at the commonwealth games, we don't live too far so we got the bus to Perry Park, it's a fair trek through to the stadium but it looks fabulous and we had a great time, stands are amazing, we and had a good view. Had the best day …
We came for the games, great day out at a great venue, food and drink prices fair given the event, travel to and from has been very well organised and events staff were great, anyone else coming for an event during the games should have a problem at all.
Very nice stadium also kept very clean and tidy official's very good most of events on time well done. Little disappointed with no or Little food available as was said by other's who had travelled a long way but enjoyed the day
Came for the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Stadium has just been refurbished for the games and is in amazing condition. The atmosphere at this venue was amazing. I will love to go back to another events once the games is over.
I was lucky enough to go to the first rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games and it was amazing. But one of the legacies of the Games is the renovation of the stadium which will benefit our local area.
I have never been to a more organised event than the commonwealth games. The volunteers were so friendly & helpful. Alexander stadium itself, could have done with more toilets...very long walk from seat to toilet!!
Impressive stadium. The ground are huge around it and there's a beautiful lake beside it worth a visit. Toy can also get to the canal behind it with about 5 locks within a hundred years which is impressive.
The Alexandra stadium during the CWG games was brilliant and the atmosphere was incredible , what a success story with the right investment anything is possible to compete with any stadium in the country.
What a beautiful improvement to the Alexander stadium. I was privileged to have attended the Commonwealth games. Can't wait to utilise the stadium events and activities in the near future..
Fantastic stadium. Opening ceremony for CWG Birmingham 2022 was out of this world. Well done Alexander Stadium, well done Birmingham 2022, well done volunteers and the whole of Birmingham.
Wow, how different it is here compared to the last time I came. Fantastic set up, I just hope it's well used. Athletics, football, Rugby, concerts etc are all suitable for here.
Visited the common wealth games. Good signages inside, plenty of washroom and food facilities. Surrounded by greenery as well. Located in the heart of the city almost.
New stand is very smart and temporary stands for the Commonwealth games makes it into a fabulous stadium. Loads of atmosphere and such easy access from M6 junction 7.
An excellent visit to the Commonwealth Games. The facilities were good for those with accessibility requirements and very well supported by the games volunteers.
We visited for the Commonwealth games and the stadium and organisation was very impressive. Great view from the stands with good transport links to the stadium.
Went for a morning session of Athletics for the Commonwealth Games. Great atmosphere, brilliant organisation, and a wonderful morning of sport in the sunshine
Amazing Stadium for the Commonwealth Games Athletics 2022, brilliant atmosphere, super friendly staff, many many food stands and plenty of toilets. 5*!
The stadium has been refurbished ready for the commonwealth game and is stunning. Really well organised, clean and tidy. We’ll definitely visit again
Enjoyed the athletics not the queues or organisation, missed a trick, had to go back into Birmingham between sessions as nothing around the stadium
What an upgrade for the 2022 Commonwealth Games! Thanks so much to all the staff, Athletes and spectators for making this such a memorable day!
Excellent Stadium in Birmingham, home to British Athletics. Hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games. A regular venue on the Diamond League circuit.
Absolutely fantastic venue to host the Commonwealth Games, easy to get to, great facilities and felt very safe. The organisation was spot on.
First time since its upgrade A well run Diamond League event. Park and ride was good. Stadium looks much better than the old one.
Amazing venue!! Great for all the family. Just attended the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games!! Well done Birmingham.
Pretty good experience attending 22 Commonwealth Games athletics. Minus a star for the sandy/dusty pathways outside.
Very nice place to chill with family, friends and very good park, wild life is doing well and half of the moon on show
It was an awesome experience attending the Commonwealth Games for the first time. Birmingham was a good host.
One of the best stadium in birmingham. Lot of sports facilities available. Lovely to walk around the stadium.
Outstanding layout, organisation and games staff, thank you for making it a day I'll always remember.. …
Visited for Commonwealth Games. Good view. Great atmosphere. Stadium well signposted and marshalled.
I was a volunteer during the Commonwealth Games. It is such an amazing place, a lovely environment.
