This was the culinary highlight of our trip to Nashville! We had just left the Queen + Adam Lambert concert, and traffic was not going to move anytime soon, so we were looking for a bite to eat. The kitchen for Layer Cake was closed, but the bartender recommended Bakersfield, and they were open until midnight that night. Best. Decision. Ever. Their selection of tequila, and their whiskey for that matter, is nothing shy of amazing. I have an autoimmune disease, so when I do drink, I try to make sure it is a higher grade silver tequila to reduce the amount of sugars and exposure to any additives. When I explained to the bartender, he made a recommendation right away, and the straight shot with salt and lime did not disappoint! We were also pretty hungry, so we ordered chips and queso, and we each ordered a few tacos. I had the brisket, the huitlacoche, and the carnitas on mine, and let me tell you they were the best gosh-darned tacos I have had since.... They are the best tacos I have ever had! My partner and my aunt both really enjoyed their dining and drinks, as well. The two gentlemen running the bar (where we sat) were on their game! Their memory, ability to multitask, pay attention to the needs of a packed bar, their speed, and their personalities were all on point. Simply a stellar experience.

We were there late night, and it's definitely a bar. It was not kid-friendly at the time we went.

Fantastic food! The tacos are traditional small tacos and absolutely perfectly made. We also had their guacamole and chips and chicken taquitos and shared the three brought to the table, they were great as well. I have to say the presentation of the meal was stunning as well. My wife had a pineapple margarita which she said was absolutely so smooth it is dangerous. I had their old fashioned and the drinks were superbly crafted with care and integrity. The old fashioned had a beautiful smokiness with a hint of cinnamon that just rolled across my tongue, fabulous! All around a great time! Go enjoy it for yourself you'll see! Oh and they bring the check half way thru cause some people are hurrying to other places but there is no rush to it at all I actually appreciated it since I didn't have to impatiently flag down a server for my check.

We came here based on the reviews. At the time we were downtown, we were stuck because it was later at night, and the Preds were letting all their fans out. Being downtown and in the main area for tourists, we were very skeptical but decided to give it a try. First, the bartender was attentive and excellent; that was not the issue. On the other hand, this was the food that the review was based on. We ordered a trio for an appetizer, and honestly, this was one of the most disappointing trio's I have ever had. We ordered various tacos, and I would have much rather gone to Taco Bell. The tacos had some of the worst flavorings in a taco. The taste was similar to eating from a gym shoe. You can tell by my postings I put a decent amount of photos up, but the food was so bad I was distracted from taking photos because of how bad the food was. Why does this place get fantastic reviews? It has to be the location. Anyone to rate this high on food quality must be eating something other than the tacos or the trio. I agree with the five-star reviews if people want to rate it strictly on the service. In other words, save your money and find somewhere else to eat. If you decide not to, don't say I did not warn you if you order tacos, which taste like an old stale, moldy gym shoe.

This is the place to go for the best queso in Nashville hands down a must try. The location is pretty nice great bar to sit at. They also have some big benches which makes this an excellent choice for a large group. Service is not bad, fast and brisk. I do enjoy their street tacos as well especially the Pollo Rollo and the Hongos. The milianesa torta is massive with delicious fried meat and pickled red onions cutting through the flavor of the thick soft bread. Might be a good sandwich to split especially if you taking half of it togo would be inconvenient because it's huge. If you want some Mexican like food near Broadway this is probably your best bet and absolutely do not skip the Queso especially the one with Chorizo.

My friend and I visited Bakersfield Mexican restaurant in Nashville recently and we were glad we did! A local friend from Franklin told us we have to check it out. I have been to Bakersfield OTR in Cincinnati, which was very good, so I had a good feeling that we were in for a treat. We were in for lunch and the place was busy but we were greeted by a friendly hostess and sat promptly. I really liked the interior decor inside this place and what a nice looking bar! We were sat at our high top table and our waitress came out to give us fresh chips and drinks. The guac was amazing! I ordered three of their little tostadas, the short rib, pollo asado, and hongos. Each was simply delicious, great flavour, fresh, and lime to squeeze over them (which I did for the fish tostada). Overall, we both had a great experience. The food was spot on to our expectations, service was great, and the atmosphere was very nice and vibrant. We will return when we come back to Nashville!

We were in the mood for Mexican food and this place is close to Broadway and the reviews looked promising. Everything is a la carte and you can expect to pay between $4-$10/each for tacos and sides. The service was great and they sat us right away. They had a long list of Taquila but the first two taquilas we ordered were out of stock which seemed odd. We had the esquites (cold), chips & salsa, baked short ribs queso, tacos, and taquitos. The short rib was a little sweet and different but we really enjoyed it. The chips and salsa was a good deal for $5. They refill the chips and give you two bowls of salsa (one is smoky and the other is a salsa verde). The taquitos were really flaky and were probably the best thing we ordered. I liked there variety of tacos but didn't care much for the Huitlacochie but the papas & chorizo was really good. It was a little pricey for what you get and the lack of some taquila in stock is why I give it 4/5 stars.

The host was a little rude about a reservation that didn't start for 2 more hours, several seats, and I do mean several sets in the house... don't hound me about a reservation until that time! The server was very nice and truly enjoyed having him, except he added things to my tab that belonged to the guy I was with, and that guy never told him to fix it ... good was just ok. I was so hungry that I ordered several things, but nothing stood out as "I'd order it again." Definitely not impressed with the food or the taste... I'll definitely try other places before returning here

We saw this place when we were on a sprocket rocket ride and really wanted to try it. We ate at the bar and ordered a few things. They were good but I’m not sure if I could do a full dinner here. The saw was okay but not x the greatest. The tacos were delicious but pretty small. The tacos at this place was killer—seriously, those chicken tacos were next-level good. But the service was a total letdown. We were chilling, enjoying our meal, and thinking about ordering more, when the waitress drops the check on our table. We didn't even ask for it. It's like she was trying to give us the boot or something. We shrugged it off, ordered more food and drinks, and guess what? She did it again. It felt super rushed and honestly rude. Long story short, the food might be amazing, but if you're looking for a laid-back vibe and good service, this might not be the place. I don't think I'll be going back, and I can't really recommend it to anyone else either.

Other than a little bit of a wait for a table, my experience was top notch. The pineapple margarita that was suggested to be was absolutely unbelievable. The tacos.... Oh the tacos.... I had a conversation after dinner with a friend debating on where are these tacos lie on our best of all time list. I came to the conclusion that it was definitely in my top five, and my friend landed on his top 10. Absolutely unreal. The short rib was my favorite.

Absolutely amazing! I think these are the best street tacos you can find in Nashville. They are small but so delicious! They have other things on the menu, but honestly once you’ve had a taco you won’t want anything else. The variety of tacos is plenty. Guacamole and salsas are quite good. The bar has a smallish number of taps but the beer selection is good. And of course the tequila selection is great, with plenty of shots available that won’t cost a fortune. Service is almost always speedy and excellent, even when it’s packed. Be prepared to make reservations or suffer a long wait though, as this place seems to always be full.

I’ve always heard great things about the food at Bakersfield but as a California girl who is also half Mexican and being let down with the Mexican food in TN, I was a little reluctant to try it. I’m so glad I did!!! Everything we ordered was delicious and our server Ashley was the best!!! She really understood and helped when I needed to tweak my daughter’s meal due to her autism (food sensory issues). Everything I was told about Bakersfield was true and I’m a huge fan. Keep it up!

Where to start...how about their starters! Their guacamole is by far the best guacamole and salsa verde I have ever had! Fresh seasoning throughout this appetizer is mouth watering!! I believe this dish would make any avocado hater an instant green lover! The Baja Shrimp tacos are out of this world incredible! Ever seen Soul? Remember 22’s reaction to pizza? Yeah, that happened to me! Just one bite of this taco would make you question if you ever came to earth with a spark, and if not this is sure to give you one. If you’re visiting Nashville, you haven’t tasted culture til you stopped here! Enjoy!

So the place is gorgeous. The atmosphere was great the service is good very helpful. Very attentive. I ordered three tacos - the cochinita pibil,pastor, and huitlacoche. The huitlacoche was good. The pastor was more of a sweet bbq pork...also a LOT of pineapples???...the pibil was better. Sauces were good. A green red and a habanero accompanied the mini. Tacos. (Street. Tacos) good amount. Of meat on them. Also ordered the esquite. It's cold not hot esquíte. It was ok. I. Ordered a pomegranate Paloma....good. for $36 plus tip ..it was meh.

Cute little place off of lower Broadway. The atmosphere is loud and open, half bar type and half restaurant type. Took a moment to get service, but our waitress was super friendly and helpful. We sat by one of the garage door windows which was fun until the rain came and we had to close the window ourselves. The staff were not quick to move as all the tables were getting wet and that really was their only ventilation if you will. Quite pricy for a taco, but the chips were not half bad.

A new favorite spot to stop in Nashville. Not pretentious, cool country vibe, great reasonably priced Mexican eats. Not really a taco joint as much as it's a tequila, bourbon, cocktail bar with some great, reasonably priced food options. Attentive service and really nice cocktails at less than "normal" Nashville prices. Being a bit off Broadway keeps the Woooo Girls to a minimum and the chill vibes at a maximum. Great tacos (street taco sized, so get 2-3 for a meal), with a good variety of types of proteins for everyone. We ended up coming back here a couple of times with different groups, and everyone enjoyed it. I ended up getting different tacos to try each time and they were all delicious! Great service here. Easily the best I’ve had in the broadway area. Big shout out to bartender Austin. He was constantly scanning the room to make sure everyone was taken care of. I travel solo and sometimes that means a lesser level of service but Austin was super dedicated to his job and made the evening for me . I came in here specifically for a mezcal margarita while visiting Nashville and enjoyed it so much I stopped in several times during my stay. The bartender Donnie was excellent. The tacos were super legit. The carnitas and al pastor we’re our favorites, but there’s also some great veggie options too. Not the most kid friendly environment due to the proximity of Broadway st, but they do have a kids menu. Mezcal margarita was on point and the chips/guacamole/salsas were also executed to perfection. Keep in mind, the seating is setup as large picnic tables which accommodate big groups, and make the indoor volume pretty loud.

Dropped in for a quick.bite and drink. Sat at the bar so our group wouldn't have to wait. We all got tacos and some drinks. Both of which were great! Bartenders were very nice and had a fun sense of humor. Tacos are small street tacos and are really good. I had the Pastor taco and my friend had the fish taco.

Food was excellent and the guacamole was very good (strong onion taste of you are into that style). We were there late on a summer Tuesday night and it was not to busy of but probably 75% full. Our waitress was nice, friendly and knew the menu well. Over all the service was a little slow (getting seated, getting drinks, getting bill), so I wouldn't hear here if your in a hurry, but the food is definitely worth it.

This place is absolutely fantastic. You are in downtown Nashville so everything is a couple bucks more. But not here. Bakersfield is very reasonably priced, the food was great, service was great. Overall this place is excellent I highly recommend.

This offbeat taco place was quiet, calm, great service, and great food. Guacamole was excellent. I'd recommend skipping most of the apps (not because they weren't good but the tacos were really good!). Shrimp tacos were by far the star of the taco show! This place was open a little later than the other local restaurants, I believe till 11pm. Perfect place for a great, fresh, taco.

This place was recommended to me and it is legit! I had 3 Bistec (steak) tacos and the queso. I enjoyed a craft beer from the tap to start and finished my meal with a 2oz pour of Stagg Jr! It is just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Broadway and soooo much better quality food than what you would find on the strip! I will keep this as one of my regular spots now!

Went last night after a concert. Got seated immediately and Ashley was our server. She was a doll! So sweet and positive. Got the order correct and everything came out fast. She even split one item on the check 4 ways which was very convenient. I would recommend the short rib tacos and chorizo queso. Also the willie salad.

Awesome dinner! Will definitely be back. The sauces they use have a blast of flavor. Margaritas were tasty. Our waitress was friendly and very conscious of my spouse’s avocado allergy. Salsa wasn’t just your typical cheap Mexican restaurant style but more Smokey and flavorful. Recommend reservations in advance. No immediate parking but Uber dropped us right at the door.

In just a few words this place is absolutely amazing, very reasonable prices and delicious food right in the very heart of Nashville. Will definitely come back when I'm back to town. Thank you guys, keep it up. Happy holidays.

The size of the tacos was tiny. Our friends had between them 2 tacos a beer and ice tea - 28 dollars Ours was 6 tacos beer and a lemonade 80 dollars. So you could imagine we we still hungry but felt the cost was too high. If te meal included side's or something maybe it wouldn't of seemed to bad. But really 100 plus dollars and for just tacos and drinks.

From the start of our visit, Drew brought the most welcoming smile and presence. It’s refreshing to see someone who really enjoys their job and the way they take care of their guests. Thank you Drew!! Food was also superior

Do you see these tacos? They are just as delicious as they are photogenic. The drinks were stellar. I had the spicy pineapple margarita - whew...first couple sips open your sinuses but after that it's smooth sailing. I love the atmosphere of this spot. Community tables. Very chill. Love the decor and the service was great! Will definitely come back.

Amazing service here from both how fast the food is served and the waiters themselves. AMAZING price for huge pitchers of margaritas, I would go back alone for the lemon mint pitcher. Tacos are awesome too. So fun to pick and choose flavours you want. Short rib is a must - it cannot be missed

My friends— please, I implore you, DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE. Second visit to Nashville and we made sure to come back here. Service is great but the food is AMAZING. The Tequitos are to die for! Johnny was an awesome bartender and kept our drinks filled. My guy got the Pork Carnitas, ate them and ordered two more. We absolutely love the food here.

We got a half Willie salad plus one Taco and it was the perfect amount of food for us. As a party we also shared the chips trio and corn side. Both were outstanding. Our server was attentive and kind. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and music selection. A nice variety in a city of bbq

Tacos, Tacos, Tacos and craft cocktails. This is such a great spot in Nashville, especially after a game, show, concert, or bar hopping. They are open late and have quick service. The syrups for margaritas are all freshly squeezed juices and made in house. You can also find vegetarian and gluten-free options on the menu.

Super fun spot for fresh tacos & really good chips & guac. Sit at the bar as a couple, or fill up picnic tables or stand around tall tables with large groups. Loud music, lots of laughter, fun bartenders. No dessert? Oooh, missed opportunity. Offer a dessert shot & let us complete our meal with a sweet, please!

Really good mexican food in Nashville. We can here for early lunch and our bartender, Marshall, was just awesome. He really made the meal fun for us and provided great recommendations. It's always better sitting at the bar when the bartender is able to bring an element to the experience. Definitely recommend!

The food was DELICIOUS, so much so that I had TWO orders of the carnitas taquitos. Call me a fatty but it was sooooo worth it! Def worth coming here. The margarita was good too!

Really great meal and service here recently before a show at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Definitely elevated Mexican cuisine that was reasonably priced, especially with this restaurant being in downtown Nashville where things tend to be expensive.

10/10 every time!! I think I’ve been here 20+ times since moving to Nashville- it’s that good. Carnitas tacos, Baja shrimp tacos and loaded queso is a MUST! Service can be very fast, so if you’re looking for more of a slow date night just them to put tacos in later - they’re always fantastic.

Everything was excellent! We ordered both Queso apps, torta, tostadas and all the taco flavors. Apps were tasty but the tacos deserve all bragging rights. Al Pastor, shrimp and bistek were my favs but the rest were all delicious too. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.

The best food and service I had my whole Nashville trip. Good prices, great drinks. Food was just phenomenal.

Fabulous, fabulous restaurant, exceptional food and drinks, surprisingly low prices, what's not to like? Try the huilacochee taco with hot salsa and chips with cilantro salsa, which are made from scratch every day. I'm very glad I stopped by this restaurant for a dinner!

So, these are excellent tacos! I would've ordered more, though, because they were a little small. Think like 4 inch diameter. The service was quick. My bar was a bit flat, so I would've ordered a battle. The music was too loud for my taste. The dips looked great. More

Service was friendly and efficient. Tacos were tasty and priced right as they were small. If you're a drinker, they have a large selection of whiskey and tequila. Extremely loud and they were not busy. It just wasn't our preference but most will like it.

Amazing food & amazing service! This is a great spot for a late night bite. The queso is not to be missed - it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. I love that you can try so many varieties of authentic tacos too. I recommend this place to everyone!

Great food, great drinks, and great service. It's all exploding with flavor. The cheese dip got rave reviews, but I found it a bit clumpy and chewy. I'm not a big fan of the corn tortillas, but everything is really tasty.
