I'm going to try to offer an in-between review that isn't a slobbering film-buff or a rich single father who somehow expects dual heated, reclining Cinema XD seats from a literal 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This place has the absolute best selection of films in town. They're your best bet for any independent film with a small theatrical release. The seats are on a decent incline so it's unlikely you'll have the screen blocked by a tall movie-goer in front of you. The real shame is that with such an incredible selection of mature films, half the screens have some major imperfection, stain, or deformity. It's hard not to notice folds, small tears, or dark streaks streaming vertically across the screen. Your only saving grace is low-key or high-contrast scenes; bright scene in heaven or looking at the clouds? Stains. As far as ambience, the cost of concessions is ludicrous and while the employees seem nice and knowledgeable, they seem stressed out. You can see in their eyes their love of movies is what first got them interested in the Film Society, but now these local film buffs are relegated to serving $7 sodas and $5 pretzels with no cheese. (But they WILL offer mustard for your salty snack if you ask for a condiment). It's hard not to notice half the employees are volunteers. It just makes you question an ethos behind the organization. This is a beloved theater with over a thousand positive reviews; they receive plenty of income from these concessions and government grants. And to not put it back into the screen—one of the most critical tools that serves the primary function of this establishment—is odd. Edit: Review has been updated; a star has been added because I appreciate the receptive response from the owner. My review comes across a bit harsh; this is my favorite theater in Utah for mission, overall-vibes, and film-selection alone. I just want to make sure quality is up to par for first-time goers.

You can tell from the second you walk in that everyone there cares about the best film experience possible, from the staff to the ticket buyers. The atmosphere hits you instantly. In your average theatre, people talk, text, or loudly fart during the movie. With typical theatres, you have to deal with people who don't really care about the movie or whether anyone else does. Broadway Cinemas is pretty different. People just, you know, enjoy the movie. Most people even sit through the credits, just for fun. Not to mention the films they show, most of which wouldn't screen anywhere in the state otherwise, especially foreign films. They don't usually have explosions or decepticons, but good writing and acting instead. If you like theatres where people leave their phone alarms on, come in late, answer a phone call during the movie, and then loudly leave early, maybe this one's not for you. Anyone else, though, will probably be happy they came here.

For the second time, I drive all the way here and the movie I was trying to see is not playing today. Their scheduling system is very confusing, because some movies are not shown only on certain days and they are replaced by another one just on that day. I came to watch “Passages” and it turns out it plays every day except for today. Why? Who knows. Their website didn’t mention anything. I try to support independent movie theaters, but they make it really difficult. So, if you’re planning to come watch a movie, make sure to read carefully their website and even call in advance to double check they’re playing the movie you want at the time it says there. Twice in the same theater… The other time I was even showing them how their site said it was being shown at that exact time and they had no answer, they were as puzzled as me. They need to figure it out to make this business work. Personally, I’m not coming back again.

This place is funny. It's an independent movie theater, and everything about them enforces the point of "independent." For instance, they have a full cappuccino bar. Sure, they have the staples of popcorn and candy, but they also have kale chips, and organic curry popcorn from locally sourced corn. The location of this theater is great. Right in the heart of downtown, next to Copper Onion and Copper Commons, so if you want to have dinner before watching your documentary on Himalayan ice sculpting, or just a libation, you can easily accomplish that. Inside is spacious and clean. For some reason, I was expecting cramped and musty...blame it on my judgmental nature. I was actually there to watch Tickled, a documentary on professional tickling. No, I'm not joking. This is what I was there to see. I enjoyed it, but I didn't eat kale chips...so I suppose my experience could have been even better.

I've only been here a few times and all visits were a part of Sundance Film Festival so I haven't had the traditional theater going experience here. That said, this place at times made me long for that traditional franchise theater experience as opposed to the more intimate atmosphere here at Broadway. Not to say it was necessarily bad because it was a very nice experience overall but it definitely had its quirks. Such as, it was all very packed meaning you were constantly hearing people coughing or laughing at various times which can detract from the experience. Not to mention how the chairs aren't terribly exquisite and by my findings means that you will invariably be kicked or somehow nudged from the back while in the theater. Ultimately, these gripes are what keep the venue from being the most fantastic experience but overall, it's a pretty solid experience nonetheless.

Have never ever had an issue with this theater or the staff. I've been going for years and adored the feel of the environment and friendly employees. However, today I felt very mistreated by the employee at the ticket booth outside. Me and a couple of friends were buying tickets, one of them had to run back to his car to fetch our parking ticket for validation. When he came back it was just in time for him to purchase his ticket and she made him go all the way to the back of the line because he wasn't in line with us. I let her know our situation and the people behind even agreed to let him purchase the ticket since we had been waiting for our turn and she did not budge or let ME get his ticket anymore. Felt humiliated and embarassed. I'm not one to complain, but this has been bothering me all day. In general, I do love this theater and its uniqueness.

This cinema is great when it comes to showing new independent films. It is definitely the ‘go-to’ place in the Salt Lake area when it comes to these types of movies. The reason I am giving three stars is this: Throughout the last film I saw, an usher never came in to check on things such as people talking, using their phone or being generally disruptive, all of which were occurring in my screening. Additionally, when the credits started to roll an employee came in to clean the theater. I am the type of film-goer that likes to stay until the very end, as are others. Having someone clean around me while I was staying to the end made me feel as though I was putting someone out and in the way. As an independent cinema I would expect more. This was a midday screening on Wednesday. I hope this is not how they regularly operate.

I love the variety of films shown here..the indie, foreign, and art house films tend to be so much better. Original storylines, interesting and meaningful films are often found here. The lobby is pleasant, seats are nice these days, and the unique treats at the snack bar elevate the experience though I don't recommend the chai latte (odd tasting instant powder). Unfortunately, the prices can be high, the little hall to the restrooms is stained and "smells like death" (my son's words), and though the bathrooms at noon had many toilet seats up indicating recent service, there were empty soap dispensers, three empty towel dispensers, and some sort of mess slopped as over the wall. Perhaps a bit of mismanagement going on. On the whole I recommend going, see a good movie, and support local business.

Such a great place! Friendly staff, huge selection of exotic and treats and bottled soda pop! Things to know before you go: 1. There is no fountain soda, if that’s something you like for a movie. 2. Park in the parking garage next door, they validate! 3. They really put movies back to back, so they don’t do lots of cleaning between movies, and since it’s run but many volunteers, it can be a little messy when coming in. They also ask that you try and clean up before you leave. Which if you are a decent human, you should be doing anyway. 4. The seats are not stadium, just traditional movie seats. Comfy, with cup holders. The theaters are also small, which we liked, very intimate. Also, no pre assigned seats. So thankful for this great art house! The only place you can see so many great films!

My friend and I came to see Miss Americana at this theater and we were early so we asked the help and they said they were not forming a line yet so we came back later an hour before the movie started and then they decided to form the line, there were 4 people in front of us at that time. Then the people that were in the front of the line decided that they were going to have other people join them. 6 other people to be exact. The help did nothing. Then when we went in there was already a line inside so we asked them how they got in line before the people outside and they said they were just told to line up. The concession people were really nice but I won’t be coming here again!

Defiantly more of a home cozy feel for a theater. The chairs aren’t as large or comfy as Cinemark’s but they aren’t as squished as mageplex. Seats where velvet in a warm theater, so it did get pretty warm. All of the seats did recline a bit. Some of the seats were also dedicated .The candy options have more unique candy and their bottled drinks were some I’ve never seen before, Italian sodas were an option. They were out several Coke options at the fountain. The atmosphere was like nothing I have ever seen at a theater. Their movie selection caters to independent films and Sundance. Saturday night at 9 and it wasn’t busy, more of an older crowd so kids weren’t running a muck.

  • Janet K

The phone line is all automated. I wanted to let someone know that y’all’s popcorn went bad or something, because me and my daughter got a bad tummy ache and ate feeling a bit quezy . But, this review will have to do. The seats reminded me of how the layout of theaters “used to be.” I am sad to also add that they were uncomfortable, however. This was the nearest screening for “Marcel the Shell.” Im glad we were able to view this independent film. I do appreciate the parking-voucher validation, however. The workers were polite which is a plus. Overall, besides the popcorn upsetting our tummies, and not being able to reach anyone by phone- it was a good experience.

I'm having a tough time with this review. I loved the movie, Notorious RBG. It was so good and informative, and I love the Broadway for bringing movies like these to our town. They give voice to the disenfranchised and Salt Lake needs the Broadway. However, the Theatre's air conditioning either was broken, or very insufficient for cooling the building because I sat there sweating just watching the movie. I had sweat rolling down my face and neck. My friend complained and the person said she'd see what she could do, but it never got any better. The theater should have given us a rain check. I will go back, but I will call first to see if the air is working.

  • Kerry Moore

Love attending independent and studio films at this theater. This is the place to go for documentaries, special engagements, and films that you won't often see in the plexes and big name theaters. I believe the Salt Lake Film Institute is strongly connected to the venue. The concession stand offers a large variety of snacks and theater goodies. Some of the theaters could use chair repair or replacement. And the ticket agent out front isn't at all interactive with the buying public and almost seems disinterested serving theater goers. Parking is validated for the public parking garage to the east. There are also good eating options next door.

  • Cody Eldridge

AMAZING! We watched my favorite movie of all time (ALIEN) on the big screen for the first time in my life. It was absolutely incredible! Definitely coming back to see more cool stuff! UPDATE: since my original update have since seen The Thing and The Room here. Absolutely love this movie theater, it's condiments, and above all else, the mission! Seeing these old and often quirky movies are an amazing way for my wife and I to get out and enjoy our city. Thanks SLFS! We will be back! UPDATE 2: still the best! We've added Troll 2 and Starship Troopers to our list! Summer showdown rocks!!!!!

  • Carole Fraze

I loved the atmosphere and the snack bar had plenty to choose from. The staff here are chill and very nice. My daughter and I went and the other patrons in the theater were respectful it was like going to watch a movie with a whole bunch of friends. We all laughed, gasped and cheered. I felt like I was transported back to when I was a child going to the the theaters in L.A. again when people had manners and were cordial and cared about the whole experience. No feet on the back of your chair, no cell phones going off, no one talking really loud through out the whole movie.

  • Jared Hickman

I do love this theater and it's movie selections you just can't see anywhere else. My average rating is only because it needs to join the 21st century in ticket- purchasing technology. We stood in a line that stretched to the street just to purchase tickets to a a 7 o'clock show. Then we stood in another long line just to get into the theater. It was chilly outside. You have the option to purchase tickets online, but then you have to print them out at home. Who prints things out at home anymore? They need a app where you can scan your tickets that you purchased online.

  • Jordan Bradley

The larger and more professional of the two independent cinema houses in town, the Broadway is fantastic! Absolutely dedicated staff, huge and semi-healthy snack selection, and most importantly, all the movies worth seeing. It has comfortable seats, decent bathrooms, a nice clean lobby with local art and independent movie information, and a huge, 6 level parking garage right next door that validates parking with a ticket. It's AV system is state-of-the-art, of course, but you won't find any 3D or vibrating seats at this place! That is not what the Broadway is about.

  • James Howard

The food selection here is quite nice. But the seats in the actual theaters could use some redo. Also it is not stadium seating. So if you happen to get a tall person in front of you you may be in trouble. It's like going to the theater in the 1970s. However the seats do have cup holders and are comfortable. Now as far as the selection of films. You're going to find some of the best films available here. That's a bigger theater chains don't carry. So you think of it as an art house theater. Then it's not bad. Hope to see you at the movies.

  • David Kirkman

We have always loved this venue! We haven’t been back for a year because of the lack of closed captioning device availability. Does anyone know if this has changed? At that Time, they only offered on screen captions on one day a week but it wasn’t a very convenient day or time for us. Most theaters in the world have the “at your seat” captioning device which is very helpful for those with clarity types of hearing loss. I’m surprised they don’t have those because a lot of the movie goers I’ve seen at the theater tend to be older…

  • Kathleen Gardner

The theatre itself isn't much to look at or praise, except for the fact that it always has a variety of movies you really can't see anywhere else in Utah. And when you realize it is run by a nonprofit, it becomes a palace in comparison to some art film venues. It's tastefully and often amusingly appointed with clever touches that make it much more interesting than any megaplex theatre could hope to be. It is slowly coming out of the pandemic, supported by loyal patrons who love it. You need to be a part of its reawakening!

  • Teresja Nelson

I love this local theater! It's where I go to watch many quality independent and international films I can't see anywhere else. I appreciate that it's not a chain theater and will show movies that bigger theaters don't. Plus, the concessions are better than those offered at most theaters, including things like Ritter Sport and other quality chocolate, flavored popcorn, tea and coffee, and other snacks. There's usually a small art installation or exhibit on display in the lobby. I appreciate their support of local artists.

  • Mary Luna

In spite of being an old building, an elevator is available for disability access. This is a must for me. It's a wonderful theater. They have lots of independent films which is why we drive from Ogden to go. They have a full coffee/tea menu as well as vegetarian and vegan snacks. And of course all of the usuals like popcorn, and traditional candies and snacks. They have so much to choose from! I love that there are all types and ages of people attending there. It feels like you're in a community just by being present.

  • Patrick Gibbs

I love this place. The seating is not ideal (not easy to see if you are short, i sometimes bring a cushion a make shift booster seat) but there's just a feeling of passion for cinema that makes me feel emotional when I'm there. My history with the place goes way back to the '90's and seeing "Schindler's List" there, so I will always associate it with high art. But the Salt Lake Film Society has brought a wonderful new life to it. Every time I go there I find myself thinking "I need to make more time for this place".

  • J Saunders-Spencer

Want a true cinema experience? This is the place. It is nothing like the mainstream theaters. No recliners, but the seats are comfortable. I enjoyed the quiet. It was a sophisticated movie experience. With the validation, there's free parking in the garage. The concessions are unlike the mainstream theaters. Independent Films rarely make it to the other theaters. Now I know where I can go to see the films that are not likely to be in my neighborhood. The staff were very nice. First visit, but not the last.

  • Stephanie Richards

Jewel of the cinema industry here in SLC. Movies are very broad, from many different countries and also artsy American movies that unfortunately you can’t find in other mainstream megaplex theaters(I love Main Street movies, too!). The staff are nice and friendly. I believe they are all volunteers. Seats are comfortable and very clean. Shout out to the everyone at Broadway center cinema for the very unique and u forgettable movie experiences!

  • Linda Thompson

The Broadway Centre Theatre is my favorite! The staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy and chill. The concession are the best and the popcorn is popped in coconut oil which is a big plus. To be a member of the Salt Lake City Film Society has been the best experience. I look forward to the films coming out every week and the special events that they do so well. If your not a member, become one as it will truly enrich you life.

  • Kendra Hurst

We had a great time here, we came to watch The Night of the Comet as part of their Summer Showdown series. They had a display of a comet lit up in red and little baggies of fake red people dust, which was a lot of fun. They did trivia before the movie, and the projectionist asking the questions was pretty funny. I'd highly recommend this for anyone that wants to support a fantastic local institution and have a great time doing it.

  • Lisa Veenstra

Small intimate theatre that shows independent movies. The atmosphere makes you feel that your stepping back in time. Lines do get long. Highly recommend buying tickets on their website. Arrive early if you want to get a snack. There are no assigned seats. And there are not many seats in the theater. If you're planning on a huge screen with stadium seating, go somewhere else. This is an independent theater that has class and charm.

  • Mitch Orton

This is the best theater in the state! It's one of the only theaters in the state that plays independent movies. My wife took me here for the first time this year, and I was very impressed. The concession stand has a lot of variety. They have a lot of things you won't find at another theater. Feel free to park in the parking garage next door (to the east), but remember to get the parking ticket validated by the ticket taker.

  • George Pence

Superb venue for independent and foreign films of high quality. Utah in general, and Salt Lake being no exception, is starved for art oriented cinema. The Broadway fills a local gap in what would otherwise be a desert of fine cinema. Do yourself a favor and trust to their powers of selection and choose a movie at random you might not otherwise see, you will not be disappointed as your spectrum of appreciation broadens.

  • Traveling Foodie

What an awesome theatre! They have validation parking right next door so you don’t have to worry about parking. They do events and have a trivia before the showing. The movies are great and the movie theatre food is pretty unique. Where else can you have edamame, tea, coffee, giant cookies and more! I’m very impressed and happy with this movie theatre. I’m glad I discovered it and I will be back.

  • Jennifer Bachmann

Great place to see a movie. The snack bar is the best I've seen in a theater. I tried the tamales and mini doughnuts but they have the typical option like popcorn and hot dogs as well. A movie, 2 food items and a bottled drink for just under $20 is good to me. I left out a star since the seating is not primo. There are a broken chairs and they're pretty worn but good enough for a couple hours.

  • Michael Erin Strong

Excellent little theater with comfy seats, excellent snacks (much more variety and higher quality than anywhere else), and a charming staff of film buffs. Lots of downtown dwellers seem to come here alone, so it's a comfortable environment for solo viewers. There also seem to be a lot of AV arts people having educated discussions about film. I'm not one of those, but it's still fun to listen.

  • Elizabeth Leach

Volunteers can be curmudgeonly but they show great movies that may be hard to find in more mainstream theaters and typically the staff is fantastic. They serve pizza that needs 5 minutes to be prepared so, prepare for that goodness. They have really interesting movie snacks like edamame and tamales. German chocolate is also a good movie snack they provide. And don't forget the espresso!

  • Willow McPhie

It may have old creaky seats. But the atmosphere, the sound, and the unique selection of films make up for it. I saw an anime film called Your Name. I previously had to walk out on this film when viewing it elsewhere due to poor theatre design. I'm glad I came to Broadway Centre to give the movie another go. It's a beautiful film and it was definitely the right venue for it. Thank you!

  • Timothy Gerber

This theater is owned by the Salt Lake City Film Society. While this theater does not typically screen big name titles, it is certainly the best place to see indie films. This is a dated theater so don’t expect leather reclining chairs. The concession stand has some great “off-beat” gourmet-ish selection like bottled micro brew root beer and double dipped chocolate covered peanuts.

  • Sid Unrau

this place always has fabulous selections and many of the film's there are not shown in any other theater. It emphasizes indie films and it is just a great atmosphere and a great crowd of people and great staff that work there. The food is a little pricey but I don't mind supporting the arts. Also they have some spectacular selections that you can't find anywhere else.

  • Justin B

This is the place to go to support indie movies in Salt Lake City. It is not the biggest or flashiest movie theater, but there is nothing I love better than cutting out early from work and watching something new here. There is a very different and pleasant vibe from the other movies theaters in town. Salt Lake City would be less with this and the Tower Theater around.

  • Reginald Brookins

It's a quaint theater. 5 to 6 screens of only films. No movies no super heros. Awesome refreshments and real glass bottles of Coke. Pizza is great and most importantly, comfy seats. My favorite theater! So much to mention. The staff is cool. Tight place to see a good film. Just saw Queen and Slim. Safe space for Black people fam. Let me know what you thought of Q&S.

  • Ty Markham

I love watching the great independent films at the Broadway. The place feels homey and warm, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never found the bathrooms to be anything but clean and well-stocked. The parking structure is right next to the theatre with plenty of spaces available. And it's free with your validated parking ticket.

  • Aine Creedon

This place is great, we saw the French Dispatch here and the theater was comfortable and close to empty. Pop corn was delicious, and these guys are just trying to keep everyone safe during a pandemic. The guy at the garage next door was a bit of a jerk, wouldn't let us get out and validate our parking so we were charged $15. Remember to validate! We'll be back.

  • Janna Paul

I enjoyed how it looked and felt. It gave the feeling of total acceptance... no hate, just love. I loved how at the end of the movie everyone clapped. The last time that ever happened to me was at the old Riverdale Cinema in South Ogden. The crowd of people and the workers gave genuine interest in giving you a wonderful experience. What an amazing Movie Night!

  • Jaden Tripp

Broadway is a great local theater. Snacks are going to be a little more expensive but they have a tasteful selection of movies with a no frills seating setup. You come here for the films; not chairs, or popcorn. Cool candy and soda selection if you're into that. Clean bathrooms. Nice and knowledgeable staff. Connected to the Tower theater on 9th and 9th.

  • Teresa Statz

This theater is very nice, slightly cheaper than most chain theaters and shows all Independent films. It has regular seating not comfort seating. They validate parking in the parking garage next door so that's free. My only complaint is that I'm short and their seat backs are fairly high so I have to be sure I sit up straight to see the whole screen.

  • Martha Clausen

This is easily my favorite theater in Salt Lake. The selection of films is different from what is everywhere else and for anyone who wants to see festival award winners on a big screen this is the place. They have free screenings with Q&A sessions and series of films that won awards in other countries. This is my favorite place to spend free time.

  • Knut Liberty

The fine line between mom and pop shop and mega corporation is deftly carved by this amazing theater. On the night I was there you could choose between artistically acclaimed national released, a local film festival (Filmulate, Dark Christmas Film Fest), and an art house flick. Every town that has a theater like this is blessed. Lucky. Endowed.

  • Julian Kozerski

I love this place! The atmosphere they have created there, and the community involvement. They have some really good screenings for movies that you may not have ever heard of but are deffinitly worth seeing on the big screen. I will encourage everyone to check them out. It is ran by the Salt Lake Film Society which is a great organization.

  • WMyles Reilly

I love this place! Since all other maga movie theaters have replaced character driven, and complex stories with end of the world, dystopian, one man/woman against all, big bang, noisy, and u complicated story ideas, 'The Broadway' shows movies that bring us closer to our humanity. Great stories, creativity at its finest. I love this place.

  • Janna Armatage

Upscale theater. Respectful crowd. Great concessions, including pizza and hot dogs. This theater is for the budding theater enthusiast or the seasoned independent film aficionado. Nice dinner options in walking distance or try outdoor ice skating in the colder months... Buy your theater tickets online to avoid a wait in line outside.

  • James Seely

Such a great place. This is an independent theatre, so don’t come expecting a megaplex or Cinemark. They do play standard films, but they also play artsy fartsy indie films that are awesome! The only theatre that I’ll get concessions at, cause they have the best ones and because it’s supports em. Support Salt Lake City film society!

  • Ibrahim Quraishi

God i hope this place survives the pandemic. This is the apex of utah cinema. They show all the smaller movies that won't play in megaplexes. Great concessions and a Cafe to boot! They always had a film related art exhibit on display in the lobby. It really felt like I was apart of some bigger cultural sphere coming here.

  • M

Worst seats in town. Years ago when they replaced the old style non-reclining seats (which were better than these), some management person thought buying another theaters reject seats was a great way to save money. Great idea. What it really saved was ticket sales. We avoid BW when possible because it's so uncomfortable.

  • dave simpson

My favorite movie venue of all time. Parking is free, matinees are cheap, popcorn is fresh , and most of all films are diverse, poignant , topical, and some are the film of the year best in many categories. No teenage drivel, no animated nonsense, and many wildly creative themes.... Love this place--- don't tell anyone.

  • Jessie Jude Gilmore

It’s terribly disappointing and illogical that you are requiring your patrons to be vaccinated. Vaccinated people can be carrying the virus just as unvaccinated can be carrying the virus. If you’re going to implement something to “protect the community” let it be a negative test within 48hrs, not proof of vaccination.

  • Stacy Semborski

One of my favorite venues in SLC! The various events held there are something I attend every year, especially the Czech That Film. It has the same pricing as the mega theaters, but have the best off major films. I feel very lucky to have a venue like this in SLC that allows the community to see indie films locally.

  • Cole Cox

Best movie theatre in Salt Lake City. I've been coming here for over a year and it's the best place, because it doesn't show these big box office sequels or superhero movies. They are "Utah's home of Independent, Foreign and Documentary film." Such a friendly staff and such a unique environment. I love this place.

  • Cade Anderson

My favorite theater around Salt Lake! This is the only place that shows a solid variety of independent or lesser-known films. Every employee I have seen here is always above and beyond friendly. Note that there's free parking in the garage next door; just ask for validation when you buy your ticket inside.

  • Gavin Lewis

The only place around to see small budget, independent, and limited release stuff and they do an awesome job. The theater is super nice and clean and they have some great snack offerings, although I haven't tried any myself. Again, really great selection of films and a place a feel good spending my money.

  • Maria Lindsay

I love that this place will have movies other places won't, but this theater needs some work. It's old. The seats are rickety. Paint needs to be replaced. Fabrics, like drapes, need to be removed. And, unlike many of the other theaters, they have no discount day, which makes me less likely to choose them.

  • K Lewis-Kooring

Awesome local theater showing art house movies and film festival selections as well as standard fare. Great people and friendly staff. Better than your average concessions as well. Tickets support local art theaters and film programs. Wonderful and consistenly good film experiences for 20+ years.

  • Aurelio Rodriguez

My wife and I love the Broadway! It's great to have a theater in the downtown area that plays movies not found in every theater. Coming here has introduced me to a world of cinema that I didn't know existed. I love their unique concessions stand offerings. The staff is always friendly as well.

  • Kelly Hannah

Okay, these cinemas are the best ever! Great location and building scale... large enough but not too large. Presenting quality movies that deserve to be seen! There is a great common area for visiting, eating, and drinking. I really enjoy watching a good film with a house made latte in hand!

Love having a local venue to see international, limited release, and independent films. The theater isn't the top of the line Megaplex, but seats are comfortable, snack selection is great and they even have coffee, tea, and veggie dogs. Parking is validated for two hours. Come support them!

As a European independent cinema aficionado, the Broadway is one of my regular places to visit each month. Staff is super friendly, easy to book tickets on your phone, and the snacks (if needed) are quality. Would love the existence of a membership to attend several films each month!

  • Saxby Chambliss

Quaint and lovely movie theater with Delicious popcorn!! Some People have complain about their seats being uncomfortable, but I think to them I say they are lazy and should probably find themselves a stronger spine that can support their bodies because they are weak. Get a grip!

  • Amanda King

Went to see a movie about individuals with disabilities. Many were in attendance, including myself, and there was not much accessible sedating in the theatre. There was single person lift to get up the stairs to get to the theaters. Accessibility could have been way better.

  • CJ Bowie

If you are used to stadium seating this theater will disappoint, but it's very clean and the only place in town showing movies nominated for major Oscar awards. Small venue. But you can get your parking ticket stamped for free parking. We had a very nice time.

A really lovely venue - great showings available all the time (new stuff and old), great concessions you won't get at a normal cinema, cool merchandise, friendly staff, and the best type of movie-goers in the audience with you. A great oasis for cinephiles.

The theater is great. Buying tickets online is a joke. They charge your card and don’t text you the tickets. When you check under your account, it shows that you have bought them but there is no way to resend them. Not worth the hassle. Will not try again.

  • Jennifer Bell

I really enjoy coming to the Broadway. Tickets and concessions can easily be purchased online. There’s always a wide variety of treats and sodas. Pro tip: stop at the bar at the Copper Onion next door to have a drink and an appetizer before the show.

  • Jared Campbell

Not the newest, greatest, or most comfortable, however it is a great place for the "Indy Vibe". Parking downtown SLC can be a hassle, however with the tiered parking close by and a validation from the theatre, it makes it a much more pleasant visit.

  • Bruce Ewald

Visited this theater for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the friendly staff. The theater isn't modern like your newer megaplex but it is worth checking out. They play films that are not available at other theaters.

  • Dylan McDonnell

My wife and I love going here to see movies. Its got great screens and sounds, a large selection of options for consessions, and friendly staff. I wish they would serve beer or wine here, but it's Utah so i cant really fault them for that one.

  • Jamie Lott

Love this theater. I'm a member and I love to support the great work they do bringing quality films to Salt Lake. They have great snacks like edamame and burritos along with movie popcorn and espresso. You will never see a bad movie here.

  • Brayden Lopez

It's a nice place, great selection of independent films. The snacks and drinks section is filled with juices and healthy options; I love that. The one downside is the theater room gets quite hot. And the seats are not super comfortable.

  • Lana Dahle

We go to waffles and wassail every year. It's our new family tradition now! The staff is so pleasant. I love the alternative snacking options for movies. My dairy free husband appreciates the various popcorn toppings. Comfortable seats

  • Michelle Manwaring

Love this theater so much. The snack selection is crazy great! The employees are incredibly friendly and down to earth. The bathroom was super clean (something I’m very picky about). Overall, an excellent place to watch smaller films.

  • Rachel Johnson

I love this theater! They carry the independent movies when the big chains won't. They have incredible outreach programs for the community and a super great staff. It's definitely worth your time and money to support this place!

  • Mickey Deutsch

6- or 8-screen older movie theater that shows more artistic films, such as foreign films and Sundance winners. I am really glad this place exists. Otherwise the only films available on earth would be stupid Marvel movies.

  • Ryan warner

They really are a go to theater for movie buffs. You don't come here to see Avatar, you come here to appreciate independent films and support producers and directors that have a true passion for what they are doing.

  • tara hoppie

I absolutely love SLFS. I'd rather see a movie at the Broadway Theater than any theater in Utah. The films they show are always top notch (I've never seen a crappy movie there), and the staff is so friendly.

  • Jordan

This place has awesome movies that you can't find at another theater in Salt Lake! They are fantastic at promoting the arts and are a non profit. They also have a sweet concession stand with lots of drinks!

  • Cyrus Neese

My favorite theater in town. I love coming here whenever I can. As others mention, you can't see these movies anywhere else, it's clean, has friendly staff, comfortable chairs and good concessions.

  • Constance Norona

Great film selection. Good food and drink options. Easy check-in, especially when you buy the tickets online. Screens and sound quality were excellent. Parking in the area is free on Saturday!

  • David Barber

Very nice experience going here. Parking was free in the garage next door when we went. The theatres are nice, comfortable chairs, good sound system. Attendants were very helpful and friendly.

  • Milagros Vasquez

The best place to watch Indi Films. I love this movies that open the door to films that are difficult to find in commercial cinemas. I love their festivals and the employees are really kind.

  • sounderfall541

This theater is always the best option for independent film, and they also have a great selection of drinks and snacks. I wish I lived closer to this theater because I’d go here exclusively!

  • Ryan Lackey

Nice little theater. Wouldn't go here for a real cinematic experience or a blockbuster, but it's small, pleasant and had a nice concession stand with lots of choices and excellent popcorn.

  • David Svikhart

Great movie theatre in downtown Salt Lake City featuring independent films. Wonderful small theaters with comfy seats and great sound systems. Contemporary snack bar with varied offerings.

  • Pigeon Persona

Wonderful local movie theater, great place for a date option. Great concession options and the employees are always very helpful. Easily the best place to see a movie in Salt Lake City.

  • Attaya Joseph

I love the Broadway theater. It has all the unusual films that the mainstream theaters would not dare show. The conversation stand is amazing. So many options to choose from

  • Paul Walton

Great community theater to watch independent movies that you can't see anywhere else. Wonderful staff, good prices, good snacks. We had licorice, popcorn, soda and edamame!

  • Sala Tumanuvao

I've seen some of my favorite movies here. Not only do they have a great selection of films but their snacks are delightful as well. Much better than your standard theater.

  • Frank May

We catch an Indy flick about once a quarter here. They always have good options that you won't find at AMC. Great atmosphere, good bites selections and comfortable chairs.

  • Maria Eleanor Rodriguez

Great theater. But the back rows are not elevated, it was harder for shorter people like me to see the front. But I guess because the screen is huge, you can still see it.

  • Peter Cannon

I go to the Broadway often because they have the main movies, but also offer movies that don't make it to the big box office. It celebrates and offers what cinema can be.

  • Sergei and Shani Oveson

You can literally watch any movie they are showing at any given time, because they are all good! Also, Best concessions of any theatre in the Salt Valley, hands down!

  • Jeffrey Rieger

Love an independent theater! The only reason I docked a start is because of the seats- they're awful. Bearable, but not great. Great snacks. Super friendly people.

  • Gabriel Gadelbert

We have always loved the Broadway. So glad to have it back open again. We are good/happy they require vaccination proof. Great place for indie movies!
