Wonderful. Like the Muppets theatre with less leg room and similar levels of eccentricity. Volunteer-run, cheap and cheerful, with great films (think Watershed 3 weeks after they have shown there), music and all sorts of other vim and Vaudeville. Has come a long way from when we used to turn up but the projectionist hadn't and we'd shrug and walk home. Now you nearly always have to book if you want a ticket - most films sell out. Does its own cola, the booze is cheap and the tea even cheaper. One of those places that is so special but small you almost don't want to tell too many people. But it deserves this review and if a few read this and decide to go, perhaps it goes a little way to ensuring the Cube carries on forever. Don't expect Dolby surround sound and giant seats, but thankfully don't expect obscene prices or 20 mins of commercial ads (expect zero). Bristol would be poorer without it.

Donated to help buy the building, and have been to many events here including a cabaret recently - such a shame that the audience (mostly the volunteers, it seemed) had so little respect for the live performers and were constantly going in and out of the main room during acts and having loud conversations. Really distracting for those of us who paid to see the acts and for the performers themselves. Certain volunteers need to treat this place less like a private social club and show more maturity during the events - it's supposed to be inclusive and welcoming at the Cube, not cliquey and disrespectful.

Excellent small cinema for independent films. Amazing value and a really friendly vibe. Cheap excellent quality beer selection. Very tight on the legroom when seated but who cares when you get such a cool cinema experience. Often shows good films when they've finished their runs at the big screens, and does good short-film festivals and you can even hire to show your own films if you sell enough tickets. Run by a dedicated volunteer army. Membership only £1.

Total indie Bristol gem - an institution really I suppose - now I've left Bristol I really miss it. Saw Dudley Sutton (Tinker from Lovejoy) do 'an evening with' here a few years back - will never forget it - totally joyous. Obviously had some pretty straight forward film / gig nights here too, but crucially, some truly magic times as well - it's a great place - cherish it Bristol.

Customers racist and disablisit pushing in que not expected from Uni grads or parents attending. Venue needs a queing system and staff that investigate issues fully. Hipster paradise, with the last of the middle class and poor attending. Otherwise great films and potential. I hope the crowd improves on my next visit and the staffing organising.

A Bristol institution and an essential part of the city's culture. This volunteer-run cooperative hosts wonderful, unique gigs with consistently great sound and a special atmosphere. Regular film showings of both mainstream and arthouse releases including a baby cinema all at affordable prices. A good selection of beers and drinks to boost.

  • Andrej Zacharenkov

A great place with a somewhat old fashioned vibe to it. It feels homely and relaxed, to be able to have a cup of tea or coffee, or an alcoholic beverage while watching a movie. Very great prices and friendly staff. Great selections of movies. Make sure to book your ticket in advance cause they usually sell out the day before the screening!

  • Roman Sexface

All the staff here look like Aragon off of Lord of the Rings and speak like oldey time language which makes them hard to understand. A staff member called Neil made me look into his cupped hands where I saw a tiny version of myself looking into a tiny version of Neil's cupped hands.

  • Peter Clasby

Independent cinema, comfy seats and great atmosphere. Brilliant value think £5 a ticket form many films. Also talks, gigs, DJs and more. Run by dedicated volunteers and part of the Tobacco Factory group. Bar and tea coffe + snacks available. Quiet leafy outdoor courtyard too.

  • Richard Casey

Fantastic little independent cinema in the centre of Bristol. Great varied programme of events, cheap bar (stock includes a few nice non-alcoholic beers), and lovely volunteer staff. Sound and video quality seemed good. Legroom is limited, but seats are comfy.

  • Henry Winchester

A venue which is emblematic of Bristol's spirit: fiercely independent, very eclectic, and totally brilliant. Walk through the doors and you can expect to find everything from cutting-edge comedy to left field films to radically alternative music.

  • Sulphur Ette

Great little place with a proper theater and stage, and a bar. Can be hard to find because it is set back from Dove Street South, with a private carpark in front of it. You need to be a member but membership is something nominal like a £1.

  • Robin Rimbaud-Scanner

Wonderful space in Bristol. Almost like a secret location but once inside a super friendly crowd, with a dynamic programme of performances. Lovely staff working there, run by volunteers so you know there's a good atmosphere there!

  • Jamie Cox

One of the creative hubs of Bristol. Community run with something on nearly every day. Great selection of hot and cold drinks as well as beers, ciders, etc. Highly recommend to see at least one live music act perform here.

  • Edward Counsell

Always loved this place. Remember it as the Arts House Cinema, when you queued alongside a Chinese restaurant. Not really changed since then-- my opinions or the cinema. Chinese restaurant went up in flames years ago.

  • Gavin Spittlehouse

Lovely community-owned volunteer-run cinema showing mostly art-house films, bargain price and great bar, you can take drinks in. Also a variety of other events and available for private events. Slightly hard to find!

  • Robin CM

100% volunteer-run arts gem. This is a proper arts venue, run on money from ticket and bar sales, not obscene arts funding handouts. A bit rough and ready, a bit creaky, definitely quirky, but I bloody love it!

  • Rob Josling

Really great retro style venue. Quite small and intimate but has some really great things going on, you can't fail to be won of by this venues charm. A diamond in the rough of lesser big commercial theatres.

  • Elena Amoroso

Places like this keep the real spirit of Bristol alive. Went along for Bluescreen, the open-screen for filmmakers and creatives alike. Wide range of films and a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

  • Clare Nightingale

Lovely venue. Great programme of events and films. It is nightmare trying to park nearby though if you are from out of town like us, so allow lots of time to find somewhere.

  • Tom Parker

A Bristol institution. Volunteer-run cinema with a very cheap bar and and an eclectic programme of art films, comedy and cult classics. A great alternative night out.

  • Paweł Szumlas

Grate experience you can get drink and watch your chosen movie. Good atmosphere. Around 30-40 ppl inside. Why not 5 star? Not enough leg room for someone above 180cm

  • Darren S

Great price of admission, with a great selection of non mainstream films. All in a small old style cinema auditorium. Not high capacity seating or leg room.

  • Thomas Chadwick

Bristols best independent cinema, super friendly and even has comfortable chairs since the still old fold down original seating has been renovated.
