We had a wedding at the Hackney town hall. I cant explain how horrendous the service was by the manager Hannah. The groom and the bride were told months before, there would a room available for us sisters to get changed. Once arriving at the venue we was told there is no rooms available for us to go and change into our attire. At this point the groom was on the phone speaking to the manager who was being very dismissive towards him. Hannah was extremely rude, abrupt, dismissive and aggressive. Manager said the only room available was the cloakroom. We had to except this offer, as enough time was wasted. Instead of taking us to the cloakroom. We was forced to use the ladies toilets. We had to leave all our clothes on the floor. Including the bride"s outfit which was unacceptable. To find later by a kind security guard that the cloakroom was available. We tried to explain to her that we was the bride's sisters. She responded by saying it doesn't matter we are still a supplier and made us come from the back. The security guard opened the back door to let in my brother inlaw and my one year old nephew. Bearing it was raining heavy. The manager said no they will need to go around. I begged her saying its raining and my nephew was getting wet. She didnt even care and shut the door. At this point I got upset and I was crying so I told her I'm taking 5mins out. She abruptly is good go. As I was going she gave me the nastiest look and my younger sister told her to please stop. At this point she got aggressive and came towards her face, the security had to get involved and had to interven and escort the manager away from my sister who was left shocked by the manager's aggressive behaviour. Throughout event the manager was extremely unprofessional and had no people skills. She would give nasty looks towards us, which made us feel uncomfortable. We was not given a pass card to get around the building by the manager. The guard who saw us trying to get through the doors kindly approached us saying did we not get one. Our whole experience on this wedding was not good. You left the sisters and the bride to be in tears.

We had our wedding ceremony in the Atria room here in summer and it was the most gorgeous venue! We had so many compliments from guests. Small word of warning that logistics to use the room on the day are quite tricky - very ‘in and out!’ - which was slightly challenging to plan for in the run up, eg with the flowers supplier. That said, on the day itself the team were unbelievably helpful and let everyone in the room early which really helped. The registrar and her team were so warm and friendly, putting any nerves at rest. I hope to visit for another celebration soon!

Visited for Orwell's 1984 experience. Was very entertaining, actors were highly professional and we did feel like we were in the Orwell's world. A very nice surprise was live music before the start of the show in the bar area. It was just keyboard and singer but didn't need anth else. The singer had the voice of an angel and the choice of songs was very good too. The only downside for me personally was lack of depiction of violence, torture, iterception and the involvement of the audience, just to give the full impression of the 'big brother watching you'.

A beautiful building, the 3 black staff I saw two men securing the back ground floor door, and one lady at the front door, I got up the steps to. She obliged by opening a front window, I asked if there was an authoritarian I could speak to and she basically told me to bog off to the back sheds where I was told also to go elsewhere, previous to my town hall call. It seems to be a private affair, being royalty, I suggest you take good care if visiting this hall.

Grade II Listed, completed in 1937 and fronted by a tidy formal garden. The symmetric Art Deco facade suggesting a reluctance to digress too far from the traditional and subliminally authoritative. The stone balcony supported by prominent corbels the only challenge here to expectations. Interior retains original light fixtures, doors, panelling and furnishings. Prominent but not domineering and quite easy on the eye.

People were unnecessarily stand off ish and a little rude. It was a register of a marriage, not a death or divorce... You think the front of house could at least have opened the locked door when we rang the bell, or tried to fake a smile at least. Guess this is to be expected though. Only go there expecting this and you won't be disappointed. Lol

But Hackney town hall, and most of Hackney, closed: it's lockdown, and sadly in the worst wintertime conditions, there's nowhere to shelter from the cold, snow etc..I still believe people should have places to congregate in these conditions.. hand out masks and rubber gloves at the door, fine, but...we should be able to shelter somewhere

I have not been in the area for a while however it has really improved. The Town Hall is situated next to the Hackney Empire on Mare street.I was at the Town Hall for a conference, the building is beautiful, there 2 exceptional staff who helped me carry my exhibitions to the correct side of the hall.Highly impressed with the building.

I went there to attend a peaceful protest for Child Q. I was very sad to learn what happened to Child Q. This place is known with marriages first time I came to London, this is my first place that I lived in London. I was even attacked in those yearshope things are changed.Crime level was very high in those years. …

What a fantastic venue for the wedding that I attended yesterday. The. glass roofed auditorium is a brilliant space and the two ladies officiating were highly professional (of course!) while being very very welcoming to all involved: the steps outside are also a perfect location for photos. Highly recommended.

A beautiful destination to get married. We used one of the atria which was stunning. All of the staff we attentive, friendly and organised which helped to make the ceremony smooth and care-free. Would highly recommend their services for your big day!

Absolutely useless ! I called for an advice they didn’t understand what I was asking so put me on hold and transferred me to another unrelated department. The person on the phone was not even trying to help. Very bad service !

I've photographed a few weddings here and have always had a great experience with the helpful staff. The building is lovely and the steps are perfect for a confetti moment and group photos after. Grace Pham Photography

Fantastic venue for a swing or any other kind of dance event. The only downside was being unable to get an Uber to take me home afterwards and having to wait 20 minutes for an n55 night bus.

  • Jewels Stennett

Lovely to see the two statues of black people to commemorate the Windrush generation outside Hackney town hall and the Atria glass roofed conference space is innovative and interesting.

  • John Lojek

A great place to get married! Bonus: two very large, all-year-round palm trees adorn the square directly in front of the town hall, perfect for feeling tropical on cold winter days.

  • m london

The Christmas tree outside the town hall radiates Christmas again Hackney council, in normal years has a "lighting up the tree" get together. And also celebrates Hanukkah and Eid.

  • Dawn Williams

Iocation picks everything up. I was near the town hall not in it. I've been married twice there, its not a place I wish to visit a third time. Haha.

  • Luiz Filipe

Got married there and highly recommend. The location is great and the registras really put an effort to make the day special. Thanks for everything
