I was hesitant to write a review but looking at a few of these reviews, it’s clear that mine wasn’t an isolated incident. I can’t say it for all of the staff but atleast 3 of the staff/waiters have a bit of an attitude problem and just look like they would rather be elsewhere- I too wish they had been elsewhere so that I could have gotten some decent service. I ordered the huevos rancheros and whilst the food was good, they had forgotten about the chorizo which I had also ordered. We tried to get the attention of a waiter, got the attention of this female waiter and she just didn’t seem to care. So I waited 5 minutes and nothing. So we flagged down another waiter and he also didn’t seem too interested but said he would take the money for the chorizo off our bill but then 5 mins later out comes some chorizo which he said would be free - I said I didn’t mind and would be happy to pay for it. He also made a side comment about the chorizo “that’s what it looks like” which I interpreted as “your meal probably came with chorizo but you didn’t realise”. I’m sure I would have realised by the taste alone. But also I have photographic evidence that there is no chorizo on the food only pico de gallo with the tomatoes. I have attached a photo of the chorizo plate- the one they brought out afterwards. It was my first time dining in there. I don’t think I’ll come back. I might give the mailbox one a try as the food was actually good. Then, as we were leaving - the aforementioned female waitress looked at us with dead look on her face and did not smile or say goodbye. I was left wondering why atleast 2 of the waiters are so sour faced? Is there something wrong with the management that they don’t like? Are they tired of working? Finally, came to the bakery part of the restaurant and thought buying a treat would sweeten the experience a bit. However whilst I got a tart, the person who was managing the bakery and taking orders, also looked like she didn’t want to be there. When we asked her a few questions she was short with her replies, not even smiling and looked extremely bored. Did the staff get a telling off or something? Whatever it was, I won’t be coming back despite the food being good. I left feeling confused and disappointed.
Love the vibe here. It's a great hidden little spot. Unfortunately, there were a number of issues with our food/order. I'll start by saying, the food we did get was amazing. Really good quality. The problem was getting it. I was in a party of 2. I ordered a main which had a fried egg as an add-on which I requested. This didn't come. We both ordered fries as a side. They didn't come either. When we queried it, there was a short wait and we got one portion. When we asked about the second one, we got told it hadn't been added on the order. Again it was brought over, but after 2 lots of waiting we'd almost finished eating by the time the second portion arrived. When we came to pay the bill, drinks from the table next to us was on our bill, and our drinks were missing. So overall, a little disappointing for my first trip here. It was a Saturday, and busy, so perhaps they just struggle when it's full. I'd recommend trying it out, but perhaps go when it's quieter and less mistakes are made.
Medicine Bakery is always on my radar to visit when I'm in and around Birmingham City Centre. They have 2 branches - one on New Street and one in the Mailbox. I have only visited the New Street branch but have been 3 times now and have loved each visit. The decor and atmosphere feels really chilled out and minimalistic, but still clean and modern with lots of plants and beautiful architecture to admire. The brunch options are fantastic and everything I have tried there has been top notch. They have a good variety of drink options too and the coffee is great quality. They have a little stand in the entrance selling all of their homemade pastries/breads which are freshly baked in-house which you can choose to take-away or eat in if there's space. It does get extremely busy especially on the weekends around mid-morning so we always try to visit before 10am ish, especially if we don't have a booking.
Food = okay but overpriced. Drinks = awfully overpriced. This place is more suitable for bloggers/instagrammers that care about aesthetics and their food looking good. Or if you want to go somewhere that has a slightly fancier feel to it than coffee chains. The coffee was TINY for £3.40 and not even hot. The cruffin was a bit stale and the toppings had fallen off before it was served. No prices were marked at the bakery bit so you have to keep asking what each item costs. The French toast was sickeningly sweet, it seems like a fair portion but you’re paying nearly £10 for two bits of bread, two pieces of bacon and a s*** ton of maple syrup. There was one lady doing table service who was friendly and made us feel welcome, but the lady at the bakery bit was rude and made me feel like I wasn’t worth being served, and was turning people away when there were clearly tables free.
I like the food. Problem is they list on Too Good To Go and cancel the order last minute. This happened too many times. 4/5 have been cancelled - and within an hour of the pick up time! So I've left the house already, or even shown up. The one time it WASN'T canceled I cycled down there and I got told there was nothing for me. Just given a shrug that there weren't any bags left. Look I know it's a discount scheme to sell off remaining product at the end of the day cheaply but please RUN IT BETTER! I go to lunch there and buy coffees etc at new street and the mailbox but this whole thing is just putting me off. Stop WASTING peoples TIME! Please list too good to go bags when you know how many you have NOT list a seemingly random number and then cancel after you know what you actually have. The current way probably works better for you but its really bad manners.
I had to edit my previously 5 star review. I found a hair in my hash brown. I pointed it out to the waitress when I had to ask for the bill, and she said "I'll have to speak to the manager about it". After 20 minutes of waiting, we went to the till at the exit in order to pay. I was very frustrated as I did not get an apology for the hair or the poor service. Secondly the toilet is awful and disgusting. There is about 10cm between the door and the toilet. It should not be legal to have only a single cubicle, upstairs, in a café which could hold over 50 customers. Finally, the price of the hot drinks is extortionate for a café, and there is an added cost for a milk alternative, what a joke. There is nothing particularly healthy on the menu, why is it called Medicine? I won't be coming again.
Visited a couple of times now - just for take out, so that’s all I can attest to; Savoury stuff has been excellent, especially the vegan Rueben Pastries are generally very good, but maybe promise more than they deliver; all look the part, and the range is very modish but it’s a tiny bit unrefined / a little too heavy - still it’s a minor criticism and definitely some of the best I’ve in the area Coffee is alright, but I guess not really the main focus I can see how the in-house dining experience could be a bit variable, it’s always a little manic; and I may be wrong but I’d bet the setup doesn’t help much - disjointed, with multiple service points (seems like a hangover from all the covid measures that were put in place and could do with a redesign)
Drawn to artisan bakeries, I wanted to check out this place near Victoria Square. Thus began the mixed experience: Loved: * The cavernous spaciousness is impressive bright and airy, filled much greenery throughout . * it wasn't too busy but they managed expectations about how long the wait would be. So-so: * Green Masala Eggs, which combined the flavours of England's prominent cultures. The serve was generous and the idea fantastic, but the dish was a little bland for my taste buds. Not so: * The service was so cold they can make ice right there. It felt like they didn't want me to be there. * The hot chocolate was enormous but again lacked taste. As an international visitor, this experience was underwhelming. Time to check out their competition.
Racist bakery restaurant. We ordered 3 doughnuts and waited for 5 minutes to be seated. However, our seating experience was less than ideal. The seating arrangement placed all Asian customers narrow seats near the door, which made us uncomfortable and no privacy. When I requested to switch seats, a female staff member seemed uninterested and asked us to wait an additional 10 minutes, despite available seating options. We had to leave and asked the staff to pack for taking away. This staff just dropped us 1 small box to pack all 3 doughnuts. When I asked for one more box, a look of disgust showed on the face of the staff and declined to help us pack. I have never experienced such a poor service. Really uncomfortable and shame for this restaurant!
I recently visited Medicine Bakery in Birmingham and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food and drink. The artisan bread and pastries were a real highlight, and the coffee was excellent too. The menu offered a range of options for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, with some vegetarian and vegan choices available. I opted for a sandwich and was delighted with the fresh ingredients and flavors. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the cozy atmosphere made for a pleasant dining experience. While the prices were a bit on the high side, I felt that the quality of the food and drink justified the cost. I would highly recommend Medicine Bakery to anyone looking for a great bakery in Birmingham with good food and drink
Great food at a reasonable price. Lovely decor! Went here for the bakery and again the next day for brunch. I recommend making a reservation at peak times if you are to use the restaurant. Service wasn't the best as my group was asked to move tables after ordering, we waited longer than any other table for food and our drinks arrived at almost the same time as food (after approx 40mins). I had to ask several times if our drinks were coming - even table water took 35 mins to arrive

Ordered cronut, donut, and matcha raspberry cake. All the desserts look very pretty and photogenic, and easy to order for take away as well cos as soon as you walk in, the dessert section is right by the door. Good service, interesting dessert options. Maybe I just had a high expectation of the desserts, from my point of view they tasted average(and hence a bit overrated). The cronut was very hard to bite into, and very chewy, sugary too. The donut was alright, just standard. Couldn’t taste matcha in the matcha cake and it was too sweet for me. I don’t think it is worth to travel for this place, but can give it a visit if you’re in the area, pricing is reasonable.
Visited here at lunchtime in a Sunday. I would advise you prebook as its quite a long wait to be seated. We found food service was slow, we waited 40 minutes from being seated to having our food delivered to our table. However, the food did not disappoint. It looked good and tasted even better. The pastries you choose from the walk in counter at the entrance. By the time we were ready to get these most had sold out so we missed a trick here: choose and purchase on arrival! Avoid the blueberry scone, dense, dry and pretty tasteless. I had it with cream and jam. I was so disappointed that the cream was squirty cream from a can!
Came for brunch at the Medicine Bakery, what a lovely place! I hadn’t been before and I’m so glad it lived up to the hype! It’s a beautiful space with a lovely atmosphere, very inviting. The food was delicious and surpassed my expectations, I’m very picky with pesto but it was lovely! The matcha latte and espresso were really nice and came promptly. We picked up some pastries on the way out and they were both delicious, definitely come on the weekend where they have 30+ options of Croissants, Cruffins and cronuts! I would order a portion of chips to go with the sandwich because it doesn’t come with a side salad or anything
I came here for brunch on a Saturday with my friend and we experienced an amazing customer service! They staff had mixed up one of our orders so we ended up waiting for more than an hour, when me mentioned it to the manager he told us they will remove the order from our bill. Upon leaving, we asked for the bill to pay for the remaining order, they told us that everything had been taking care of! Now that's what I call a truly unforgettable customer service so super well done to them! On top of that, the food was fresh with high quality ingredients and the bakery was delicious. Highly recommend this place!
Such a lovely place for food and drinks, I had one of their sandwiches and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a chai latte which was absolutely amazing. The food and drinks came very quickly, and me and my brother enjoyed every last bit. I was also very shocked at how cheap the prices are considering that this places seems like a luxury cafe/restaurant. We then also had some pastries which were amazing and possibly the best I’ve ever had. The staff are also very lovely and attentive. Will definitely be the only cafe I come to now in Birmingham and I have been recommending it to everyone!
It’s my first time visiting Medicine Bakery near Birmingham New Street station. We did not have any booking but we were immediately seated. We came here for a light lunch and there were plenty of choices. I had the sausage brioche and cappuccino and my friend had salt beef Reuben and iced latte. Overall food was ok, it would be better though if the egg on the sausage brioche was on the runny side. I love the look and feel of the whole place. A great ambience but a bit on the busy side. The pricing of food and drinks are ok too. Will probably come back to try other stuff next time.
The best French toast of my life! Food was amazing, bit of a wait to get the food but we did sit down practically as soon as it opened on a Monday morning so everything was just getting going. The waitress confirmed if you want a weekend brunch spot you need to book well in advance as it is packed out and I can see why! We took home some treats, a cronut and cruffin, which was delish! And a loaf of Sourdough as it is by far the best Sourdough I've ever eaten. Also less pricey than I expecte given how popular/instagrammable the place is!
Almond croissant Was the flakiest, nuttiest bite of goodness. Carrot cake was so moist it melted in your mouth. Donuts were a very sweet treat. Would of liked to see some custard filled donuts but maybe next time! We went on a busy day, didn't have to wait long. Staff were lovely. The venue is incredible! Lovely roof and plants.

Had a lovely time here with my family the other week. There was a lovely friendly atmosphere, and it was quite busy despite it being a Monday lunchtime. I really enjoyed the lunch time menu especially the salt beef grilled sandwich! The pasties were lovely the only thing that let it down was a plum pastry we tried which didn't particularly taste much of plum unfortunately. The other foods we tried were otherwise incredible. Definitely will recommend to friends and family.
I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, my experience left me disappointed. The waiting time was around 15 minutes, which was understandable considering how busy the place was. I ordered the avocado toast and while it looked beautiful, I found it lacking in flavor and quite bland. The dish didn't live up to the expectations, and I left the restaurant feeling underwhelmed. I hope they can improve the taste and overall experience for future patrons.
A cafe that used to be an art gallery?!?! The food is first class, service is friendly and without fault and it's a great vibe to sit and work or catch up with loved ones. Prices are on the expensive end of the scale, but you walk out feeling like you've got your money's worth with the excellent quality of baked goods, freshly prepared food and hearty portions. This is a hidden gem, please share selectively! Keep up the great works guys ☺️
When you step inside, it doesn't look like any other place in Birmingham! Greenhouse-gallery-bakery-cafe type of thing The dishes are unique and very fresh, the desserts and baked goods are sickly but ohhh so good (beautiful too!) The people working there have been amazing both times I visited this place. It's not your typical Costa or Starbucks, so not everyone might like the vibe, but I would definitely recommend!!
The place to 100% visit for/breakfast/brunch/lunch/coffee/tea anything you want. The place is really welcoming and very spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful. We ordered the medicine sandwich with hash browns. I got a flat white which was perfect and a iced caramel latte later on. You walk past the sweet treats when you walk in and out. The cinnamon morning bun and raspberry doughnut are both amazing
A hidden gem! Very cool building and aesthetically pleasing decor. Food was delicious. A modern and Interesting twist on brunch classics. Will go again next time in in Birmingham.

Hidden little gem tucked away from the busy Main Street. Quickly became my favourite cafe/ bakery of the city. As you enter, you are greeted with a fresh selection of pastries and moving further into the cafe there are multitude of beautiful plants. The service was good. Prices are higher but reasonable. I would recommend the sourdough and the breakfast sandwich. Definitely worth a visit!
Doesn't live up to the hype. Staff are rude and dismissive. Coffee was cold and the salt beef was luke warm also a VERY small portion for the price. To top this off we found a hair in the 1 portion. Got a £3 cake to say sorry.. Would avoid and not reccomend

What a lovely place! It has a semi-translucent ceiling with plants all over - it feels like one is dining inside a Greenhouse. The staff is absolutely lovely, extremely helpful, & kind. I had an issue with my order and they not only fixed it promptly, but didn’t charge me for it. The food was delicious, especially the mushroom chimichurri toastie, i am definitely going back.
We went on a Sunday night and it wasn’t busy. It was a really cute cafe that’s well decorated and decorated with a lot of plants. It was a nice atmosphere. The kitchen was closed so just ordered a latte and macha. They tasted really good. The customer service was fantastic. I would love to again on a different day when the kitchens are open. The food menu looked so good
Fabulous brunch spot on Birmingham high street that is rather tucked away but surprisingly large and decadent. Great range of options with regards to food & drink, the poached egg on sourdough toast was lovely as well as the Herbal (chamomile) tea. Customer service was also excellent and very accommodating. Would return when i'm next in Birmingham
Amazing place. Really lovely decor with some amazing food. Service was incredible all staff were extremely polite, respectful and attentive. Feels like a place where you're not rushed. Really lovely atmosphere also. Beautiful vintage designs all throughout also. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good food and a nice relaxation spot.
Really nice to see good pastries in Birmingham, love the cronuts! Been a few times for brunch and the service was quite slow, regardless if its a busy saturday or quite tuesday. Had to get their attention to take our orders/ get the bill. Friendly service, just slow when dining in.

Lovely venue and really great food. Definitely worth a visit, especially with the gallery on display. Will keep coming back for pastries to-go, but unfortunately I think the sit down menu is too expensive, and on my most recent visit the staff seemed very dissinterested. Would still recommend for a weekend brunch visit.
Although I have been to the bakery many times, this was the 1st time I have dined in. The food was delicious and the service was spot on. I have the Croque Monsieur and my sister had the bacon, sausage and egg on brioche. We also shared some fries and some buttermilk chicken. I would definitely go back.
Wow, what an amazing hidden gem. A lovely building with great ambience, simple furniture and plenty of green plants. The food choices are superb and super tasty. Be adventurous and choose something you can not get anywhere else. Prices are competitive. There is a takeaway option for cakes and coffee
Came in on a busy Sunday, swiftly sat and served quickly! Despite it being busy Liam our server took our order and was patient with all our questions! He made sure all our dietary demands were met, and his recommendations were spot on! Will definitely return, thank you for an amazing experience!
Excellent fresh tasty food across the menu with good portion sizes. They have a huge cake selection - the cronuts are a highlight. Great venue - airy, light, lots of plants and art work. Staff are friendly, and service was prompt. They do takeaway options too. Highly recommend!
Great experience! Really friendly and attaintive staff, service was speedy and atmosphere was vibrant. My vegan ruben was delicious, I often hear wonderful things about their food anyway! Chose to get a cake to take away, which never disappoint :) A must visit in the city!
Had some breakfast here and it was very tasty! You are greater with a very delicious looking display of baked goods at the top of the stairs and the restaurant is located in a large dining hall. I would recommend the Avo & Sourdough toast. Coffee is good too. Will be back
Just had coffees, a doughnut (delicious) and some toasted cheese sandwiches (also delicious). Service was slow because it was busy but we had a lovely server. The eggs Benedict looked amazing as did all the food I saw others eating. Nice atmosphere, I will be back!

I had a "get together" here & it was a HUGE success. The descor and ambience is a buzz. Pictures don't do it justice. The food and quality of food is great. The staff allowed us to stay and use a large table across 5 hours to meet people as they came and went.
Loved the ambience Totally different from the norm Enjoyed my meal It was quite relaxing Would visit again Sadly it’s not wheelchair friendly if you’re using wheelchair and looking to visit. Except they’ve got a different entrance aside from the one I used.
Been here on a number of occasions — Service is always great, food tastes great but I must say, every time I come here the food and drink does take a long time to come out — at least 30-45 minutes every time. Other than that, good. Just be prepared to wait.
The food looks incredible but unfortunately the service was so poor it deterred us from ordering anything more than a coffee. 15 minute wait for an Americano and the wait staff told us "It's coming, it's only been 9 minutes". Better service in Starbucks.
We had a great time out in Medicine bakery Birmingham New Street branch. There were initially two tables booked for us because we had almost 20 people. However, later on when I spoke with the staff they allowed us to move to a center table
Went on a recommendation as we love trying out new places. Unless you knew it was there, you'd probably walk past. The first thing to greet you at the top of the stairs is the most amazing display of cakes - I was sold before we were even
Overall an enjoyable trip, mostly the food was great and good coffee. Liam was very friendly and provided great service, we were also served by a young lady (I didn’t catch her name!) who considering they were very understaffed did very
Very cool venue. Pastries are up there with the best in Birmingham, maybe the best. Eating in though the food was decent however very expensive. Coffee, tea and fruit juices all ok but again pricey. Service was excellent, one of the few
Wonderful bistro cafe, in lovely surroundings, marvellous food and staff. We've long wanted to try this place on New Street it gets very busy, so booking may be needed, as today was midweek we just walked in. We had Eggs Benedict and
The steamed veggies made the bread soggy and the hollandaise sauce was so thick that it’s already set as soon as it’s served, not enough seasoning for sure. I should have got some pastries instead in a bakery, my bad.
Has to be one of the best brunch places in Birmingham. Throughly enjoyed every bit of it, I had the vegetarian breakfast, I really enjoyed the sauce on the bottom of the plate. Well worth the trip.
went for brunch with my friends here, such a lovely cafe. nice staff and the decor is lush. i got a hot chocolate & the medicine breakfast sandwich. the food was really nice & not too expensive.
Always amazing food! The breakfast and baked goods are all delicious! The menu changes regularly to keep it exciting and everything they do is exceptional! My go to brunch spot!
Didn't feel the price and quality were fully aligned. There was very little smoked salmon on the eggs royale, with a very large piece of uncut spinach that made it hard to eat.
Very much a hidden gem. Upstairs hidden entry to a fantastic art gallery and bakery that serves some of the freshest and tastiest bakes I've come across in Birmingham.
Great experience at the Medicine Bakery. Efficient table service with nice food. The sourdough bread was the star of the show! Beautiful setting. Pastries are AMAZING
The brunch menu is very good, lots of choice, vegetarian and vegan options available. The cafe itself is bright and airy, filled with art on the walls and a lot of
Amazing service, cool and contemporary and great food! Such a great place in the heart of Birmingham! Would definitely recommended for breakfast and/or bakery
One of my favorite spot in Birmingham. Always busy. They have amazing daily bakery and plenty choices for brunch. Highly recommend for friends gathering.
We had a lovely lunch here. Really cool interior. Especially the £5 kids menus were a hit. We bought some cakes afterwards, which were great as well.
Wonderful breakfast. Coffee, French toast and brioche halloumi burger all amazing. Such a nice vibe in the restaurant too, lovely big and airy space.
Been here a couple of times. Food is great. If you’re looking for a light brunch or breakfast, this is the place to be. Also their bakery is amazing
Amazing food! beautiful decor! we were a group of 7 and the food and drinks came so quickly. All the staff were really friendly too ☺️
Amazing place for breakfast! Variety of desserts and pastries. 5 stars service and very welcoming staff! Highly recommended
Had a takeaway Raspberry/white chocolate tart. Think it was the best bakery l've ever had! Wish we lived closer. More
Stunning place and delicious food and drink. Great spot for a brunch or lunch. Definitely recommend! More
Very nice layout. Croissant was OK. Never tried breakfast so can't say much. Reasonable prices.
