Let this be your warning. If you care even a little about coffee, do not go here. The ratings this place has just baffle me. The coffee is absolutely abysmal. Coffee roasting is a delicate art that requires close attention as there is a fine line between perfectly roasted and burnt. This tasted like they turned the roaster on high, and then decided to take an extended lunch break and called it good. It’s so burnt and bitter that it might be on par with the 12hr old truck stop coffee I picked up at 3am off I-70 in the middle of Kansas. Yeah, that sums up what we’re working with here. The food was sad too. I ordered a lox bagel and someone must not have ever tasted a caper before. I love them, but they are salty and intense. You don’t need to use a whole handful of them on one bagel. The PB and banana toast was like store bought sliced wheat bread, some skippy (or similar) and sliced banana. In total, 2 sad coffees and 2 sad breakfast items came to about $30 after tip. Oh and then as we’re sitting there with a table covered in trash (it’s all served as takeaway even if you ask for it to stay), I notice burning coffee smoke pouring into the cafe through the ventilation system. Looking at it from the outside you can see that the chimney for the roasters is right next to the ventilation intake on the roof.

Cute atmosphere, but I will not be returning. I ordered two drinks, a breakfast sandwich and a bagel and cream cheese. The hot cocoa was good, the apple cider had a LOT of cinnamon (the last few sips were like the cinnamon challenge), and the sandwich was tasty with a lot of turkey. I was really disappointed in the bagel and cream cheese. I opened my bagel to find that only half the bagel was covered with a small amount of cream cheese. When I asked about getting more, I was told I would be charged another $0.90….for 1 Oz of plain cream cheese?? So I went home and added my own cream cheese, only to find out I was also charged $0.10 for cucumbers. I feel like I was nickel and dimed for breakfast and I get that inflation is getting high, but for almost $4.00 I should get enough cream cheese to fill both halves of a bagel. From what I gathered, I think this is the problem of a cheap and selfish business model. The workers were very understanding, but have to follow certain rules. TLDR: $0.90 extra charge for half a bagels worth of cream cheese is scammy and not cool

I just started working here, and was surprised to find out they serve coffee from I think around 40 countries, for around 30 years! The food is much better than what most coffee shops offer, many Housemade dressings and sauces you’d expect from a more euro bistro style cafe. My personal fave is the Mediterranean Flat bread, Goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes, with Arugala is a nice combo! So far everyone has been very nice and accommodating, I look forward to learning more, I think the roasting, and cacao chocolate bars is the most unique thing. I’ve been dreaming of melting a cacao chocolate bar into my latte, maybe one day! Haha

Excellent place for coffee, tea, hot cocoa and the like with great food in an open and friendly atmosphere. The staff feels like friends and the coffee is excellent. I got a breakfast croissant with egg, cheddar and bacon. It was delicious and my son got a tan mocha which is his usual. They have a reward program for frequent customers and they remember you which gives it the family and friends feel. If you're going to that chain with second rate coffee do yourself a favor and go to Millcreek Coffee. Great location downtown on Main. It's easier to get to the parking lot coming from the south because of Trax.

**Went from 3 stars to 4 stars. Because your employee Heidi was nice and considerate. She sold me a great Chai Latte with a little more chai. Give her a raise.** I come here when it's convenient. My brother lives near this coffee shop, and I absolutely enjoy it. Ditch the gas station and come here for coffee. They have a spacious interior with plenty of tables to sit at. They serve breakfast sandwiches and outstanding coffee. I recently bought some ground coffee and I have to say, when I brewed it with my French press, the coffee comes out smooth. Almost rivaling a cold brew, except it's hot coffee. After my experience here, I'm going to buy more ground coffee when I get the chance. Forget Seattle's best or any other name brand. This is where you want to get your coffee.

This is a nice (simple) place with good coffee, good food, good staff, and good customers. Food: I had a danish (just so-so, very “meh”), and a breakfast Asiago bagel with Turkey and goat cheese — VERY GOOD. The bagel is why food got 5*, in spite of the danish. $15+tip (big city location = big city price) Service: Super nice staff, but the kitchen may have been behind, because it was slower than expected. Still, bagel came out steaming hot. Atmosphere: The decor is a version of Sparse Auto Tire Shop with No Tires, But With a Kitchen. Naked concrete floor, seating was plentiful, and even had some nice metal cafe tables outside. Glad I found this place and, I’ll be back on my next visit to SLC, for sure.

I teetered between 3 and 4 stars here, and after some thought I went with three. My breakfast sandwich tasted good, but I felt a little nickel and dimed to death (and the extra costs were a little unclear as I was ordering $0.10 each for EVERY vegetable topping... really?). And for being an active roaster, my drip coffee felt very "just okay". It's cool to see the roasting process going on buuuut it was also pretty loud when I went in. Not really a place I'd want to sit and chat with a friend or take a call unless I sat outside on a few tables along state street, potentially in the sun. They do have a variety of beans for sale which are probably good, and the employees were friendly.

This place has a fun atmosphere and good espresso base drinks. I haven't tried their drip or other options, but the Mocha and Frappe are good. They roast their own beans, and the roasting machines are here. It is really awesome to see them roasting, and of course it has the relaxed coffee house environment as well. You should at least stop by here to see the roasting, then you might as well grab a drink to try out the roast. The flavor experience for their mocha is a gentle bitter on the rear and sides of the tongue, glazed with a smooth dark chocolate taste accross the tongue. The milk and cream lock in the flavor letting it linger on the tongue. The overall experience is therapeutic. Buy local and support your local economy.

  • Renie B

Cute place and nice staff but meh food and coffee. Paid $14+ (before tip) for a black coffee and a veggie bagel sandwich. They were out of spinach so the worker offered me arugula. The bagel came half burnt (black) and no arugula, a super thick layer of sun dried tomato spread I wiped off as it made the sandwich taste like pizza, and undercooked egg whites that dripped from the bagel as I ate. The French roast coffee was brewed weak but tasted ok. I got everything to-go and didn’t open the bag til I was back at my hotel. Prob ok in a pinch but I’ll try other spots next time I’m in town.

Cool, funky, welcoming roastery with great breakfast choices. Comfortable, clean welcoming place with knowledgeable/helpful staff who smile and are very efficient (which means quick service). I love when you get your coffee before your food so you can relax and start to enjoy. Super fresh ingredients on my breakfast bagel. I was trying to decide between the avocado toast and lox so they suggested putting it together which was perfect! Plus, there is adjacent parking. Great start to my day!

Looks like they changed Bean Roasting and quality standards. The last 2 visits 10 days apart for hole beans. The beans where burnt and mixed with burnt beans and properly roasted beans (1st visit French Roast & 2nd visit Millcreek Espresso), I mentioned this to barista thinking maybe it was an one time occurrence they didn't seem to care "that happens sometimes" & "I don't like our French roast" wow. I will be going to a different bean Roaster, I have been a customer for over 10 years. Good luck

If you go to a coffee shop and order a cappuccino and their response is "what size" then you're not getting a cappuccino my friend. Unfortunately, that was my experience at Millcreek which led to a super milky cappuccino with 2 inches of foam up top. The food is pretty decent for a coffee shop which makes it a slightly higher rating, but the coffee itself was "untraditional" let's put it that way.

Flew into SLC for some photos. Needed to find a place to kill some time before we could check in at our Airbnb. Stumbled upon Millcreek Coffee Roasters and grabbed a coffee and some sandwiches. Tried the Turkey Bacon Swiss and the Chicken Gouda, both absolutely amazing! Wonderful food after some flights and figuring out SLC transit. I definitely recommend it!

I love the environment and that they have outdoor seating. The baristas are so kind, too! Good coffee drinks- though I'd recommend adding an extra shot to your lattes, because only their 20oz is a double. The coffee is delicious-- I definitely need to buy a bag of their whole bean! Their food is also delicious, but don't order it if you're in a rush, as it's all made to order and it might take 15minutes or so before you eat. But the fresh ingredients and tasty bagel sandwiches are worth the wait if you have the time!

  • Benjamin Tschetter

Good coffee (especially the cold brew) and good prices. The food is actually good enough to be lunch instead of being an afterthought like at other cafes. Quick service but can sometimes be loud when they’re actually roasting coffee in the room with you.

I went on 06/25/2023, the man who made my veggie bagel perfected the art of it. The seasoning was perfect and the ingredients were fresh. I also went on 06/20/2023 and the lady who made my garden salad looked so dedicated while making it. The lady with black hair who is at checkout and makes coffee is so chilled and brings calmness to my morning. I would hope the owner could kindly recognize these people, the backbone of a successful cafe. Weldone!

Typically I’m not a huge coffee person, and only really have it with a whole bunch of sugar and cream. I stopped here during lunch and had a caramel frappe and it was amazing. We love Millcreek Coffee! Stacey and her team are fantastic. It's always a nice experience there and the coffee is delicious. We also participate in their monthly bean subscription service which is great as we never run out of beans at home. On the weekends, we venture out for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We've tried dozens of places downtown and have yet to find a breakfast bagel sandwich more delicious than at Millcreek. Thanks for being such a great part of our week!

  • William Oakley

“Oh wow…that’s good.” That was the initial response to the Americano. Temperature was perfect, not bitter, great flavor…and the breakfast bagel sandwiches are legit! It’s like they manage to find the perfect length of time to toast bagels. They were perfectly toasted if that’s possible. Crispy on the outside but soft baked and wonderful on the inside. The chai was good, but different. It tasted like there were hints of apple on there. We would definitely come here again!

  • Dyanna

Today i went in for lunch. I order the italian and omg. It was so delicious. Only if it wasnt too much i would keep buying it. I did not try the coffee but the smell was delicious. You can see how they manage the coffee in the background. The service was really friendly as if you were its friend. Which i loved. I would go back there to try their coffee. I had no concerns when i went in. I would definitely recommend to someone else.

The atmosphere is pretty neat, as you are able to watch the roasters in the back. I didn’t care for the flavor of the vanilla syrup used in my drink, but other than that it was a good experience. The area around the coffee shop can get pretty sketchy if you travel away from the Grand America area. The service was great and the staff was friendly.

Dear Millcreek. I do enjoy your coffee when my son visits SLC. We live in Moab. But my complaint comes from your chocolate. I have had only one bar that has not aged passed edibility. This is disappointing knowing the price of your chocolate bars. I only ate what I did so as not to offend my son who brought the chocolate while I was in the hospital. Thanks for your consideration

Never knew this place existing until today. I’ve been going to another local shop, but I like the atmosphere here better. The coffee is good and food tastes good as well. Service was excellent, polite, and personable. Definitely a new local favorite. I noticed that there were people subscribing to a monthly delivery, but didn’t notice it advertised inside. I found it on the website though.

  • Shikha Bhan

Decent coffee. The tables had crumbs all over them, along with crusted liquid and annoying flies. We were told we couldn't order anything with espresso bc the machine had already been cleaned (this is a solid hour before closing). She forgot our goat cheese honey toast. Thete were no other patrons. After reminding her, we got a soggy, chewy mess (see pic). Would not recommend.

  • Vibhu Rathee

One of the oldest coffee roasters in Salt Lake City, this is a legit coffee shop with some great offerings. As soon as you enter, the smell of fresh roast coffee going on at the back of the shop greets you. The baristas/servers are very friendly and this place feels very welcoming. The accessibility of the place in downtown is an added advantage with its own parking.

Great Coffee! I had a cortado, and it was smooth, rounded, and overall excellent. You can tell they put some work into perfecting their beans. In fact, I could see them in the back roasting, tasting, and perfecting their most recent batch while I was there! I forgot to take pictures before tasting it, so the cup doesn't look as full as it was....

Excellent spot for coffee in a beautiful space. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Goat cheese and honey toast was delicious, but the peanut butter and banana toast left a bit to be desired - could've used a drizzle of that honey to add some sweetness.

We love coming to Millcreek coffee roasters first and foremost for the friendly barista‘s that work at the counter. We always feel welcomed with a friendly hello and enjoy the coffee we get there as well. I tried the eggnog latte from Chloe’s suggestion and it was a perfect drink on a chilly December day!!

  • Todd Hewitt

Coffee is outstanding, location is good, and the inside is clean and comfortable. My only knock is the barista, not very friendly, almost seems annoyed that we came in. both times its been around 4:30 in the afternoon, so maybe its because its an hour from closing. regardless the coffee makes up for it.

Stopped in today to grab some breakfast and everything was amazing!!! Loved the hot latte I got. My husband got a bagel breakfast sandwich, which he said was amazing. We split one of the chocolate croissants, warmed up, and it was worth it!!!! Also the service was amazing!!! Everyone was super friendly

Ray and his crew always do an awesome job. I have been a customer for years and they always deliver a quality delicious product. Their “made fresh food” is always good and their coffee blends are fantastic! Try the Stein Ericksen if they happen to have it available, you won’t be disappointed. More

Great coffee shop vibe. Pleasant staff. Ordered a pour over and purchased Ethiopian blend beans to go. Was not a fan of their beans when comparing to other local roasters I’ve had. Tasted like all of the flavor profile was missing, perhaps over roasted. Coffee connoisseurs may be dissatisfied.
