New City Moving may be highly rated and recommended for Chicago area relocations but they are far from being ready for long distance moving business. I moved from Kildeer, Illinois to Melbourne Beach, Florida in June of this year. The packing crew was efficient and friendly (at the time of preparing my household goods for the relocation). I stored my goods in the Chicago warehouse until my home in Florida was completed in September. When the crew arrived in two Budget rental trucks (not the expected New City vehicles) I was a bit surprised to say the least. When I found out that I was being charged an additional $750.00 for the second truck I was surprised even more. I had no prior communication indicating that I was being charged for the additional vehicle. The only explanation was that the load was “overweight” – my furniture weighed far less than the 40,000 pounds that a semi is authorized to carry. Unpacking was fairly uneventful until the crew leader approached me and showed me where my antique clock was damaged – he specifically stated that it was improperly prepared for shipment in Chicago. I was not happy with the fact that this 150 year old clock that was given to my grandmother for her 6th birthday had been damaged – and they lost the key that has been used all that time to wind it once a month. The move-in continued until the crew leader approached me again and asked me to follow him into the master bedroom to show me more damage. The ends of the footboard of my custom-made king bed had been "intentionally ripped off" (the crew leader’s exact words) – apparently to facilitate storage or transport. I contacted New City, sent pictures of the damage and complained and was advised by business owner Brian that his attorney would be contacting me to settle the matter. I was once again very surprised that contacting an attorney as the first step in a Customer Relations Management issue was New City’s service protocol. Brian advised me not to publish a poor rating for his business and accused me of “blackmailing his company” if I did and he would sue for defamation. IF anyone reading this review is considering a long-distance move, I would strongly suggest that the moving company options available be thoroughly evaluated – Including New City as an option would, at this point in time, be the last resort for me.

Exercise Caution: Unsatisfactory Experience with New City Moving I recently had the unfortunate experience of using New City Moving for my relocation, and I feel compelled to share my story as a cautionary tale to others. Upon the arrival of their driver, I was immediately informed of significant damage to one of my large furniture pieces. This initial setback was distressing, to say the least, and raised questions about the professionalism of the company's movers. What's more, the driver went on to express dissatisfaction with previous movers from New City, emphasizing their poor performance. Ironically, this came after it took an excessive 6.5 hours to wrap and move furniture out of my 800 sq foot apartment. The inefficiency added unnecessary stress to my moving process. However, the most disappointing aspect of this experience was the company's response. It took them over three weeks to propose a solution, which, in my opinion, was inadequate. They offered a mere $55.00 in compensation for the significant damages incurred during the move. This response did not align with the extent of the damage or the costs I had to bear as a result. I believe in accountability and customer satisfaction, values that should be the cornerstone of any reputable business. My experience with New City left me deeply disappointed and compelled me to share my story.

1000sqft to 1750sqft move from Chicago suburbs into Chicago. I got a quote for full service packing, moving, and materials. The sales team is professional. The estimate process was convenient, Heather video called at the scheduled time. She’s professional and was great. I adjusted the move date only a few days before the move and also requested the quote be readjusted as I removed about 10% of my items. They moved my date no problem and (correctly) assured me the final charge would reflect less time and items. Crew leader Francisco and crew Derrick, Juan Carlos, and 4th guy (sorry bro) were all professional and careful. They arrived early and conveniently waited until the stated start time so I was not rushed. These guys are experienced, they were efficient and careful. Tip your movers (they work hard, they know where you live, and they know what you own). Francisco said he’s done over thousands of moves. Your hardware stays with your items, my full 1 piece glass coffee table made it in 1 piece. They’ll even unpack and set up your furniture for you, just realize you’re paying the hourly labor rate if you request them to do so. Very convenient for things like a bed frame and mattress. It’s not cheap, but I had more expensive quotes come in. It’s fair, and my back thanks me. 5 stars, I love you New City Moving.

All our prior moves were in the suburbs. Although all moves can have difficulties, we were concerned about the challenges we'd face by relocating out of a condo right in the City. We got a recommendation to go with New City Moving and we're glad we did. From the initial phone call with Stephanie, we got the reassurance and confidence that we needed to book our move with these movers. We were never made to feel like any of our questions were too trivial to ask. The estimate was very accurate. We received confirmation texts and calls before the move. On the morning of the move, we received a call from Jeremy giving us an update on their arrival time. No sooner than a few minutes later, they pulled up to our condo building and got the truck in the perfect position to not block traffic or pedestrians. Jeremy and his crew were terrific. They were all introduced to us and then, got right to work. They were pleasant and efficient. We felt so confident in their ability to take care of the contents of our condo that we just went about finishing what we needed to do. Our items are going into storage and we feel very confident that when they are moved to our new home, we will again, be very satisfied. Thank you!

I don’t normally leave reviews, but this warranted one. I used New City Moving at the recommendation from a friend. Seeing all the 5 star reviews gave me comfort. How wrong I was. I have moved many times and never had any trouble until this short 1.9 mile move here in Chicago. The movers wrapped my virtually new ivory colored sofa, dining room chairs and stools in their dirty blankets and put a black sheen of dirt across them all. They also somehow got black specks of dirt embedded in my ivory alpaca carpet. These items have never been moved and were only 1.5 years old at the time of the move. Now they are soiled and tainted. So disappointing that their staff can’t do even the simplest things like covering the sofas in wrap first to protect them (they said they did this, but I have evidence they did not). Really poor customer service afterwards to get this issue addressed. I wouldn’t use them again if someone paid me!!!

I would never ever hire this company after I reviewed them on yelp and the owner claimed he has no record of ever having me as a customer despite using them for at least four to five moves. Everything went fine for the first two moves. But the third move their crew out my vinyl record collection that I stored at the time in a milk crate at the bottom of a stack of other items. Red flag #1. You do not stack anything on top of vinyl!!! Red flag and final problem is they cracked my at the time 8 month old TV during transit. Then when I pointed it out to the head guy, he licks his finger and tries rubbing out the crack like it was a smudge. So then the TV was cracked and also smudged. I purchased insurance but the company wouldn't honor my claim too. Avoid at all costs. Any single issue and they get shady.

This is the second time we have used New City Movers and we were very satisfied with the service. They arrived on time (even called about 10 minutes before arriving to let us know their status) and got busy right away. We appreciated the extent they went to in order to protect our furniture. Everything was wrapped in blankets and some in blankets and plastic. They took great care to move the furniture and not make contact with the door frames or walls. They really went the extra mile to make sure our items were safe. Both times we have used New City the three man teams were courteous, friendly and efficient. They moved so quickly that each move came in well under the quote. I have recommended New City Movers to others before and will continue to do so. #NCMLive

I can’t say thank you enough to New City Moving team. They made my move just as smooth, easy, fast, efficient, and stress free. I had a lot of inventories. I also had a storage bed frame from IKEA. They disassemble and assemble again like nothing. I was extremely impressed. I booked a team with 3 guys, they completed the task in 3 hours. I feel bad that we moved on the day with excessive heat 106 degree but all of them were very nice, polite, happy, professional, make sure everything is good. They did an excellent job. These movers were amazing! They arrived on-time and ready to WORK! They moved so fast we couldn't even help them. They took great care of our furniture and made sure everything went where we wanted it in our new place. They didn't fuss about the stairs (we moved to a third story) or about where to park their truck. They made everything so nice and even made it look easy. I am not kidding one of them STRAPPED our big couch to their back and solo carried it up our stairs. They took things apart and put it back together and were way under the quoted amount of time. We have worked with several moving companies before, but will never look at another again. Hire these people and be prepared to tip them well, because they deliver!

Had a move with NCM last year, and everything went smoothly. Noticed about a week ago my bed was sagging in the middle and took off the mattress and box spring to reveal that the movers must have lost a screw while moving and just attached my bed frame together with tape. WITH TAPE. No one disclosed this during my move - and now the whole thing is so bent I have to replace the whole thing. Very frustrated at this experience. What's the best way to submit customer feedback? I already filled out the inspection sheet, attached - but clearly this isn't something I could have seen.
