I was very happy to come across this very well stocked bookstore. I bought some discounted books and when I went to pay I saw some Dr. Seuss books on the shelf and asked the cashier if the books were on sale and he said "yes", thinking that they were discounted I bought two books. Only when I left the store did I realise that they were not discounted so within 20minutes I was back and asked if they would credit my credit card. I was told this was not an option and I could have a voucher. This was not an option for me as I live in KZN. The shop assistant was so very rude to me and raised her voice and shouted at me when I questioned the credit card reversal. I have never been spoken to in such an unprofessional way. When I asked for the manager she said she was the manager so I asked for her superior and was pointed to a lady behind her computer and when I approached her she said she would speak to the "manager", she had heard the abuse I had been subjected to and chose to not intervene. When I spoke to her she said she would speak to the abuser. I can honestly say I have never had such unprofessional rude service and as someone else wrote she was maybe having another bad day, unacceptable!!! Unfortunately due to this unpleasant incident I will never recommend this store to friends and family in Cape Town.

Staff not particularly friendly, mediocre at best, and do racially profile you. Whilst the selection is good there, I bought 2 books at a discount as gifts and turned out I had to exchange just one of the two. I was only told then that in order to exchange the 1 book and not pay the full price, I've had to bring back both books?? In the end, I've had to pay more in order to complete the exchange. I've also just went onto their terms and conditions page, nowhere on there it stated how exchanges for discounted books work. Now that Bargain Books is in Blue Route Mall and not only are the staff friendly, you can request for exchanges as well as refunds, the prices are competitive, and you can order books through them as well, it's a no brainer with where I'll be shopping for books from now on. --- Hi Lisa, I'm aware of the 7-days exchange, the problem is that nowhere on your site states that when exchanging 1 book that's part of a 2-book purchase in order to get the discount, you'd have to bring both books back for exchange in order to keep the discount?? How do you explain this? It's fine you do your investigation, but I'm still having to pay more in the end which I honestly do not believe I should. How are you going to address this?

The variety of books stocked is fanominal from the classics to the contemporary, from engineering to the arts. The Staff are always knowledgeable and the prices range from extremely reasonable to close to commercial obviously this depends on the book that you are after. The sections are well defined and most people spend some time in the front the shoppe before being drawn into the depths by the smell of paper and ink. The children's section upstairs always draws the adults aloft as from the past bombard one with tales from The Wind in the Willows to Enid Blyton Box Sets. Definitely a place to loose an hour or two.

I needed a specific book and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The book even cost less here than at other book shops. They are located just off the Main Road opposite the Builders Warehouse in Tokai. They are well stocked and have books for every interest, young and old. They also sell other book related things, games, educational toys, arts and crafts type goodies, educational goods, etc. My kids loved coming here to spend pocket money when they were much younger, then we joined the library and then they discovered the internet. I could spend all day in READERS WAREHOUSE - TOKAI

I'd give it 5 starts except as an amputee having no lift is not only inconvenient but - since they're tenants I don't mind saying it - depraved indifference on the part of the building owners. Upstairs where the children's books are kept is accessible by a narrow stairway with stock either side. Not great for able bodied in an emergency. Dangerous for an amputee on an average day. The stock is always excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and informative. I just wish someone in a wheelchair was employed as fire marshall to keep building owners in line with international safety standards.

Its just amazing for middle grade books, ages 4 to 8 and 8 to 13. Down stairs is where you'll find middle grade book box sets and upstairs there's a little section FULL of middle grade and smaller kids books. Cheap also, found a Land Of Stories book for R130, Enid Blyton Adventure series R599 for all 8 books. And there are LOTS of adult books also. Includes YA. Also sells archie and Tintin also atrixs and a variety of graphic novels.

Nice book shop atmosphere, with lots of reasonably priced books. If you're looking for a less popular or older book you probably won't find it here, but all the latest and more popular releases should be available. Great crime section. Excellent children's section, first stop every time for kids books. Definitely worth a visit, you won't walk out empty handed.

  • Sarah Lovick

Great selection of varied titles to choose from. Layout of the store works well and easy to navigate your way around genres and authors. Staff friendly and helpful and prices competitive. Very good selection of children's books for all ages from tots to teens. It is well worth a visit especially if you, like me, struggle to walk away with just the one book!

  • Kevin Vally

I'm a regular visitor to Readers Warehouse. They have a fantastic range of books for both young and old. Their prices range from excellent to good. You will get popular authors at prices from R 79.00 upwards. Admittedly the older ones are the cheaper ones, but when you start reading an author it is great to get his/her older books at good prices.

  • Craig Lucas

A book lovers paradise, with a great selection of books in various genres. As a "factory store" there is, however, a limited selection of the latest releases, but given the degree of discount offered on the stock, this is not a problem. There is also a good selection of children's books and "book packs" where all books in a series are included.

The service was slow and terrible at this store. If not for the supervisor /manager on duty 26.3.19 I'd prob still be waiting for my order. When he noticed we still waiting he went to investigate. Our order was out of the fryer but no one bothered to check if it was ready or cared that we have been there a while already

  • Marion yi

Did not find what I was looking for which is Manga books. They have a huge variety of children's books and prices are reasonable. They have 2 levels which is great. Thank you so much for your response and will definitely be on the look out for manga books online. Thank you for getting back to me. so excited now.

  • Amelia De Mello Koch

This is one of my favorite haunts, there are always bargain-basement available, a beautiful collection of jigsaw puzzles and a great selection, the staff are friendly, well informed and always ready to help with a smile, my grandchildren jump at the chance to spend some time with me in this store!

  • Shauna Nyman

Awesome service from the assistants. However, The manager might racially profile you and keep watching your kids while they're shopping. She might pack everyone else's books in free brown paper bags and hand you your books after paying without a hello and goodbye. I'm so disappointed …

  • Kashiefa Sedick

Was an awesome quick shopping. My granddaughter was looking all over for a set of Harry Potter books. We went to a couple of book shops and eventually said let's try readers warehouse. Well done readers warehouse we found what we were looking for. Thanks so much and all happy now …

  • R Khan

Great place to browse if you love books of all kinds, decent prices at times, and best of all is their really great range. Kids books are all upstairs though, which is a challenge for parents with prams. They also display tons of signed photos of authors I've never heard of …

  • Katharine Eve

This is a budget bookshop with a range of books, many published some time ago. They also have an extra budget section and these books are cheap to purchase. There are loads of fiction, teen fiction and children's book so if you're looking for something with the basics, this is it.

  • Karen Kotze

Efficient, helpful and interested staff and great value. A staff member offered to order a book I had been looking for, for 6 years. Kept me appraised of progress throughout, and book duly arrived: at less than half the price of Exclusive Books. Definitely worth visiting.

  • Mariska Joubert

Very friendly staff, beyond amazing prices with such a huge variety to choose from, and if what you are looking for is out of stock, they will be more than happy to order it in for you and phone you once it's ready for collection. Won't buy my books anywhere else!

  • mr superbear

For those who still believe in reading an actual book instead of electronic readers this is a definite go to place. Staff very friendly and very knowledgeable. They even stock Archie comics... I am a very regular visitor. Great selections and very good pricing!

  • Meagan H

A wide selection of genres and titles in a welcoming space. Staff are very friendly and helpful and you can find your new favourite book at an affordable price. The only complaint is that you are more likely to walk out with a significantly lower bank balance.

  • Richard Budge

I love reading and i believe it is one of the most important things to teach our children, so to have a place that sells good books at reasonable prices is great. And that they have a dedicated children's section with all of the stories you remember is a plus.

  • Jill Wilkenson

You can easily spend an hour or two browsing the selection of books, puzzles and crafting sets available at this store. Great kid-friendly section - a lovely way to entertain young children. Added bonus is the availability of a clean bathroom, yippee!!!

  • Caroline Esterhuizen

Factory book store at real discounted prices...but with the shopping experience of any high end store. Books categorised, pleasing displays, alphabetically organised and wonderful staff! The store front staff are friendly and helpful and knowledgeable.

  • Graham van der Made

Readers Warehouse is one of the best places to buy books in Cape Town. Besides stocking all of the popular titles, there's a host of obscure and niche tomes ready to be explored. I almost never visit without walking out with a book or two.

  • Shahieda Ebrahim

Well organized and neat book store with great offerings! I went to check out their sale, and got a lot of material for the money spent! Also used their online platform, and had my order delivered to store - process was seamless!

  • Lucy Rodrigues

Can't say I hated the place because they were closed in spite of the website saying they were open. Their address as directed by Google Maps was incorrect. Directions takes you into a suburb bordering Princes Vlei.

  • Jamie-Lee Dammert

Loved the large variety of books... Not really clear on where to look for certain types of books but staff members are extremely helpful and friendly... Quick to help and guide you to the books you're looking for.

best place to buy cheep books its well laid out and has so much variety and the staff are so helpful and kind , just don't expect them to have all the books in a trilogy they always seem to be missing one.

  • Renchia Arendse

Giving it four stars because despite the areas of category marked, some books were hard to find. Important that if a book is not available to update the website to avoid anyone driving the distance
