Edited - There are a couple really outstanding employees here, but actually the shop policy is to charge you $20 to install a seat you buy here. They are also dishonest about the return policy: they say return within 30 days with receipt, but when you go in its actually only exchange within 30days with receipt. When I initially came in, there was a lot of pressure (well meaning, I think) to buy the first seat they recommended. This seat caused me a lot of pain so I came back two business days later to return it and buy a new one. I was talking with a very helpful and knowledgeable employee when another employee or possibly the manager interrupted us to accuse me of trying to do free seat trials. He told me that if I wanted to try a seat before exchanging it or if I wanted to have a seat I purchase here installed, he was going to charge me $20 for the 3 min of shop time it takes to change it over. He was not only very pushy about buying a new seat without trying it, he was openly hostile and treated me like I was trying to game the system when what I was asking was to try it for two loops around the back parking lot so that I could avoid taking another bad seat home and having to repeat the return process. I felt extremely uncomfortable and upset trying to find a seat that worked for me here, even though the other employee I was actually talking too was just very kind and instructive through and through. I have spent over a $100 here on gear in the past and the first time it didn't immediately work out I was approached and treated like a thief. I have never felt so uncomfortable buying anything anywhere. Everyone else here has treated me with outstanding kindness, insight, and professionality and taught me a lot but the possible manager of all people has made me feel about one inch tall. I don't know if it's worth it for me to risk coming back for more advice in the future knowing I might have to deal with him and his extremely confrontational behaviour. Previous: Really nice helpful people who helped me figure out a new bike seat as well as new tire! Great prices also
The manager or owner is pretty rude. One of the staff, who was very nice and helpful, had accepted to help me fix cleats after purchasing high-end bikes shoes, for which I paid 400$ — almost the price of an entry level bike. When the manager noticed that the nice employee was helping me, he bluntly interrupted him and started ranting in front of me, which is something I never experimented before, going on about how the employee should be trying to sell stuff to other clients, that if I wanted a cleats fitting, I should pay for it, that shoes don’t come with fitting, and basically ordered him to remove my bike off the trainer and let me fix my cleats alone. All of that in a very rude, uncomfortable and impolite behavior. While I very much understand that employees cost wages and that the retail world in general is not particularly in a flourishing posture, I would have been willing to pay for the service or discuss the price, but the poorly educated manager/owner/employee didn’t even leave that option. It sort of felt as if I was an expendable costumer after having paid the bill for my shoes. I found the shop to have interesting items and the other employees seemed like good people, but obviously I won’t go back to a store held by a guy that’s ready to publicly throw a fit to a coworker just for giving me extra help.
Sleazy! (and ungodly slow service) I went in there looking for a bike tool and instead they offered to do the work on my bike for a little more than the cost of the tool. I'm thinking, 'thats not a bad way to get some of my weekend back!' They must have thought I was the tool because when I came back to pick up my things the bill has skyrocketed to more than damn the bike is worth! They never asked my permission for any of this extra work they decided to do and they just wanted me to pay this grossly inflated bill. When I protested, they tried to belittle me in front of the other customers as if I didn't know how a bike works. I told them none of this extra work was even necessary. They said that it was, and pointed at my old tire which had developed an exacto-knife slash since I dropped it off... In a well-practiced routine you expect to see at an unscrupulous car mechanic, they offered a small discount on this completely unnecessary work or to give me back a pile of broken pieces that had been just fine when they were brought to the shop. Save yourself some hassles folks, just go any other bike shop.
Bikes are good. Price is fair. The sales process is good, the sales staff is extremely patient and fit you properly on a bike. Post sales is below average bike shop standard. I bought two bikes from them. The second bike has some wheel whobbling problem. This shop doesn't provide any breakin tune up service covered but rather blaming customer hitting pothole that the customer is responsible for everything once the bike is out of the shop. In fact I only ride the bike on a bike path for fun and use the other bike for regular task. This bike is rarely used! The mileage is less than 100km and still like 1 month old. I told them my concern but they never bother to contact manufacturer for the warranty but to have customer pay for the parts replacement. At the end I decided to contact manufacture myself and got response pretty quickly with warranty covered. Before you buy bikes from a bike shop, ask why you offer business to a shop? Don't they should stand for their customer support? If they don't take good care of you, look for somewhere else.
I brought my GT bike with a damaged derailleur and a broken derailleur hanger. The bike had a tune-up done last October at another bike shop (with several components changed, like chain, rear break pad, rear tire, etc). Rebec and Kroes told me they had to charge me $150 for a standard tune-up as labor for changing the broken/damaged components, tune-up service which was not actually necessary as well as they changed some parts that were not necessary either (such as the chain). Aside from that if I’d gone to another bike shop I probably could’ve saved around $100 in labor, I can say they are quite good/professional at their job and so far I have no complains about how my bike responds after the tune-up/repair. As a suggestion, I’d just advice them to listen more to what the customer actually needs/wants and therefore be more flexible because I had the impression that they only think/care about how they can inflate the bill, and they care less about achieving customers’ satisfaction/loyalty.
I did not explore the shop for all its goods / offerings as I was passing by for some maintenance. The service however was fantastic and the people authentic. Want to fix two "flats" on my partner's road bike, and I wanted to get a pump, two tires and two inner tubes. I am clearly inexperienced, and instead of ringing up the cash register and send me on my way, the staff helped me diagnose the issue properly and provided advice and recommendations on how to go about the fix. The person was right in their advice, and saved me some money from replacing parts that didn't need to be replaced, as the tubes ended up being OK and the tires only needed replacing. The bike is now back on the road at half the cost I was expecting, and I will definitely be returning to this store for any future needs I may have (I do need to get a bike for myself)! Merci
I recently purchased a mountain bike here. Genuinely great, helpful and respectful staff. They respected my price limit never pushing to purchase something more expensive and let me try as many bikes as I wanted to get a feel for the right one. Staff is very knowledgeable about each bike and their components. I also purchase pedals which came at a discount upon purchasing the bike which they installed while prepping the bike ( 10 minute look over to make sure everything is properly tightened and lubed ) before I brought it home. After inspecting the bike myself afterwards I found that the front brake (disc brake) was slightly out of alignment and needed to be readjusted. I did the adjustment myself but I am sure that if i were to bring the bike back, their mechanics would have done this for me. Thanks to the staff for all their help.
Went to bike shop looking for a specific item after being extremely disappointed in reaction given Me by one of the " larger Bike Shops in Town who left Me with the impression that They couldn't have cared less about MY problem even though I had bought the item from Them only a few days before. At Rebec & Crows within seconds I was approached by a very friendly & as It soon turned out very knowledgeable sales/service person who took an interest in My problem & solved It within minutes! I was Made to feel @ home almost immediately & this chap not only directed Me as to finding the item I was inquiring about but took Me right to IT. VERY FRIENDLY Staff, EXCELLENT selection of Bikes in ALL Price Classes,I noted. I left feeling that I'll be back come bike tune up time! FOR SURE! VERY Satisfied! Earned 5 Star rating!
Last summer I bought a bike from another bike store in Ottawa and fast forward to today and I'm having knee issues because it's too small for me. Luckily I can give it to my daughter but I needed a new bike again. This time I bought one from Rebec and Kroes and the difference in customer service was astounding. Not only did they check my height when we called about my bike but when I went to pick it up they spent about 25 minutes making sure that the fit was right and taking to me about my bike in general. I feel so much happier about my new bike and I know that this one is the right fit for me. They were absolutely amazing and not only will I always go to them but I'll recommend every single person to do the same. They actually care and I'm so grateful to them. Happy Biking everyone!
Updated review: Thanks to Brian and the team at Rebec. Bought by 2015 Norco Bigfoot and with their support got a warranty replacement frame, fork and new hub from Norco. This is why you try to shop local. Looking forward to many more years of riding thanks to Rebec! Original: Great store, great staff. First time in the store on a busy weekend they were both knowledgeable and helpful. Returned the next day as the bike I needed was in the warehouse and they got me set up and on the road after a quick test ride. Great price and good selection of clothes and components. Would recommend you check them out over the bigger stores for sure. If you're in the neighbourhood, check them out first. Brian was super helpful, knowledgeable and thorough.
I wish I could give these guys 10 stars. I took my son's really inexpensive bike to have the wheel straightened. My son is autistic and his favourite colour is orange. The wheels on his bike are orange and incredibly important to him. Having a special needs kid is often challenging and the general public can be judgmental. I'm not sure who I dealt with, but he was extremely respectful and supportive. He didn’t treat it like the admittedly substandard bike it is, it was treated like my son's treasure. I've rarely had this type of experience and I can’t express how meaningful it was. Thanks again!
I bought a Trek WSD women's road bike for my wife, years ago, at R&K. They had her ride it on a trainer in the shop for about an hour while they got it set up perfectly for her. Later when we started doing more multi-day touring we had them (with their advice) change gearing & tires to be better suited to that recreation. Recently we moved to Texas, and had R&K pack our bikes for shipping. Not only did they arrive unscathed, but R&K added tape & notes so the bike could be set up exactly as it had left Ottawa. Fabulous! Good advice; great service; conscientious execution. A great bike shop!
Over the years of going here, I've gotten to know the staff pretty well. They've always been amazing to me and my family, and for that I'm really grateful. I remember one time a few years back getting my bike fixed up and it needing a repair. when I showed up to pick it up, they had negotiated a cheaper price for the part with the manufacturer and made the tab a lot cheaper than I was originally quoted as a result. The fact that they lowered the price when I had already accepted a higher quote really stands to show this is an honest place. I'd gladly recommend it to anyone.
Worked with Bryan and he was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful - found the right bike in stock, made sure the size was proper, and got me kitted out with everything I needed to get back into cycling. He easily identified my needs and tailored the experience to me. Even though the store was busy (right at opening!) he expertly bounced around to help all the customers without ever making me feel like I was left alone or waiting. The whole team was helpful and knowledgeable- great work Rebec and Kroes - I will be back and recommending my friends
I bought a bike here after not owning or riding a bike for over 20 years. I had no idea of what I was looking for or what I wanted. They spent a lot of time with me over a couple visits, eventually suiting me up with a fantastic Cannondale road bike which I love. Now I'm biking everywhere and I'm in better shape than I've been in for quite some time. I'm glad that I went to a smaller shop like Rebec & Kroes, took the time, and spent a little extra to get properly fitted and set up with the right bike for me. Kudos!
Wanted to ride my bike this past weekend but my tire was flat and wouldn’t hold any air. ☹ Called around to bike shops leaving messages Monday morning. Rebec was the first to return my call and tell me they could help. I didn’t know what to expect when I went in. They said it would be finished next week. Next day, I got a call. Bike was fixed and ready to go! Very impressed with their service, understanding and promptness. I would definitely recommend visiting them. Now I need to get in and pick it up!
Kindness, Professional and Expert Staff! Visited June 2023 I’m not from Ottawa, but had 3 places bike shops to visit this being the first stop. Well I didn’t make it any farther, as I was warmly greeted and felt welcomed. Staff asked the right questions to figure out what I needed/ wanted and at what price point. Well done. Product knowledge was exceptional. I was on market for a new bike helmet due to head injury wanted to lowered the risk to my head. Thank you Rebec and Kroes team
Thank you for a great job servicing my bike this spring. Definitely extra care taken and attention to little details like a new sensor magnet. And it has not been this clean in a while. Took it for a spin yesterday...beautiful ride. Rides like new. Love this bike store and would not go anywhere else, wether for cross country ski equipment or bike related items. Knowledgable friendly staff and for a small store it sure is fully stocked and I always find what I am looking for.
Great bike shop! Very helpful to someone like me who doesn't know anything about bikes. Felt like I received honest answers and service, no pressure or upselling at all. I have used their tire repair service, which was extremely fast and well done. Purchased a new bike there and Shane (I believe was his name) was great and patient in going through all the features and adjustments of the different models. Will be back to buy more accessories and another bike at some point!
Bought saddlebags, got good service from the young man who displayed how they worked. While paying for the saddlebags asked to book a tune-up for the bike, and was told it would be a three week wait. Three weeks!? I mean, I get that you're busy, but how many bikes do you have in queue for tune-ups? Anyway, went to Cyclelogik instead and got a 1-day turnaround on a full tune. Not a bad overall experience at this shop, but disappointing that I couldn't book a tune-up.
My husband and I have purchased three bikes from Rebec and Kroes over the last few years. We loved the personal and professional service. In particular, I felt really taken care of when I purchased my first endurance road bike there. They fitted me properly and taught me how to use it and maintain it. We are always really satisfied when we get our bikes tuned up there too. We have enjoyed making cycling a regular part of our lives. Thank you R & K!
I was very happy with the friendly and knowledgeable staff. They took the time to measure me and select the Manufacturer with the best frame for me. Would like to give them repeat business and buy another bike for my wife however their current hours make it tough. 9-5 Monday to Friday. Maybe consider 11-7 a couple days a week? Asked about making an appointment after 5:30 however it was not an option.
The staff at R&K were extremely friendly and knowledgable. Being new to cycling, Nathan was very great in helping me choose the perfect bike and he was also very helpful when it came to making all of the adjustments. I took my new bike out for a spin as soon as I got home and it rode like a dream. I'm super thankful to Nathan & staff for their help. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Encountered a flat on my way to work (roofing nail). With the large sized hole in my tire, I managed to limp over to Rebec and Kroes Cycle. I was there 1.5 hrs before they opened (unknowingly), however they still accepted my bike and had it back out the door in 30min. Incredible service and very kind folks. You can't get any better than this in terms of helpful service. Highly recommended.
First bike in years... now I'm riding on a cloud!! The staff here was excellent! Being out of the bike game it was great that they could recommend a bicycle. They didn't rush me or pressure me into any specific brand. For me it was comfort, durability and, basket friendly. They also brought in a size just for me to try so I got the right bike size for me. I'd recommend this store any day.
The guys at Rebec and Kroes are knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I was in this week to purchase my first road bike and they guided me through the whole process, teaching me able what to look for in a bike and spending time with me on the bike getting used to the gearing system. Honestly I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to buy a bike beginner to expert!!
My go to LBS. Friendly knowledgeable staff who give great advice, and experienced mechanics who can fix any bike new or old. Talked to them about putting new parts on a vintage bike, and they convinced me to keep the original parts on it instead. They respected the bike enough to turn down what would have been an easy sale. Been buying parts and gear from them ever since.
I came looking for bikes and accessories for my family. Not surprisingly, everyone else in Ottawa was looking for a bike at the same time, so their inventory was pretty low. Regardless, I managed to find a great bike and accessoriesfor my wife. Their service was excellent and well adapted to the constraints to the COVID world. Highly recommended.
I loved the honesty from the staff here. They do great work. I came to get my bike tuned up and the repaired it so well it looked brand new. They have a variety of things to buy other than bikes. All of their products seem to be premium as well. Don't expect to find cheap parts that break here. The prices match the products.
I've had a great experience visiting and shopping at Rebec and Kroes. They've helped us find a bike (even during the shortage) as well as an indoor trainer for this winter. Great availability of tools too! I've mainly spoken with Brian, but the staff in general have been super helpful and knowledgeable.
Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I have a permanently damaged right wrist and can't ride a normal bike. Their staff helped me pick out an upright bicycle, and their mechanics adjusted the breaks to be pulled by a single lever. I now have a one handed bicycle and am happy to be out riding again.
Fantastic bike shop, Fabulous staff, consummate professionals, expertise and a real gem of a business here in Alta Vista. Treated me like one of the family, can't ask for more than that. What a pleasant surprise tucked away in the shopping Center near my favourite paint store Rubin's.
Experienced staff for bikes and cross-country skis and boots. Lots of good advice, they care about you getting the right thing, not just the expensive thing. The service department is fast and does good work. They're also nice people to deal with, highly recommended.
Excellent bike shop! Staff was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions. The atmosphere is friendly and not pushy. They will go the extra mile to get you fitted correctly on the bike and make sure that you are happy with your purchase. Highly recommended!
Just got my bike back from its first cables-have-stretched service. Shifting and rolling better than when new. Great work by the mechanics and great advice and product recommendations from staff. Grace under covid19 pressure. Get in line...you won't regret it!
Knowledgeable, great service, no pressure. Thsee guys are very patient and want you find the best bike for you. They have a great selection and know what they are doing. I bought a Canondale Slate ultegra from this store and will buy my next bike here also.
Rebec and Kroes is the top bike store in Ottawa as far as I am concerned. Had my wheels trued and a complete bearing overhaul done in less than 24 hours !! Excellent service, excellent attention to detail and competitive prices. Well done guys.
We bought three bikes and were really good quality. The customer service was even better. I would personally recommend everyone who loves biking to visit this amazing shop and have a great experience choosing the right quality bikes.
Had great service here! My schedule can be really challenging, but the folks at the shop were really accommodating to make sure I could get my bike fixed and get it back in timely fashion. Shout out to Brian! Really appreciate it.
Although under new ownership I have been a customer for well over 15 years. They always have what I need and are very knowledgeable. I now live farther away but always end up going there for any parts, repairs or anything I need

Been going there quite a bit last few years and have to say that every visit has been a pleasureable experience. All staff very knowledgeable and eager to help. Feels like a big happy family ... …
Bad experience four years ago. Called them today and they were extremely helpful over the phone, setup my whole order and I’m going to pickup now. Depending on order quality I may bump an extra star.
I had an awesome experience with Brian today. I bought a new bike and all of the accessories! He took his time, explained everything to me, and demonstrated his knowledge and expertise. Thank you!!!

Purchased my bike from them, absolutely great customer service and recommendations made by them. A special shoutout to Brian thank-you! Thank-you! I luv my new bike!!!❤️
I worked here circa 1990 when they were in their original location down the street. If I didn't live 5000 km away, they'd still be my LBS. Great shop, great people.
I have been to this store many times, staff is very friendly and helpful, and the jobs they do on bikes (tune ups, repairs, etc.) are superb time and time again!

Had an amazing experience fitting, ordering, adjusting, accessorizing a even properly storing the bike in my car for transportation.
Best bike store in Ottawa. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. They care about you and your bike and help out however they can.
Didn't feel well shopping their. Felt as though I was laughed at considering I was shopping fot an entry level mountain bike.
First time coming into this bike shop looking for a gift. Extremely helpful and great return/exchange policy! Will go back.
I urgently needed a super rare part for my bike and they got it delivered 3 times faster than the competitor could offer!
Just bought a bike from there... Amazing service, they really know what they are talking about! Would definitely go back.
