I took some time to visit Sunset & Co Hardware after a recommendation for Benjamin Moore paint and was happy to see a retailer of their products was actually opened on a Sunday. I live close by so it was nice to still be in the neighborhood. The associate at the paint counter was friendly and very helpful with deciding on a new paint color. After he left to ready our paint sample we began to browse around as it had been years since I had visited. Another associate was friendly and asked if we needed help but told her we were waiting for our paint. As we browsed near the chess sets the Cashier gave me the impression that felt like a stare down. I felt uncomfortable and decided we will just wait by the paint station for our sample. When I walked up to the checkout, there wasn't anyone else there aside from the earlier associate we encountered earlier. I found the cahier to be cold and rude beginning with a cold rude tone : "I can help you ever here". Never said hello, how are you...nothing at all that was welcoming.. She finished the transaction and placed the receipt on the paint sample and just coldly said; "There you go". She seemed angry or annoyed. I took our purchase and said Have nice day, which garnered no response. My friend then said: Thank You, and yet again...she didn't bother to say anything else. She really needs to brush up on her customer service skills or find something else to do. This was such a disappointment today and won't be returning back.

I was appalled when my mom told me this this morning. my mother brought some screens to the hardware side to be replicated frame and all. There was a miscommunication and they were rre screened instead. when told if they could replicate the entire frame and screen. Brian at hardware acted like it was a chore even though we would be paying extra for it. it’s your job buddy.... when it came time to install them they were missing a spring that was needed. came back a second time to inquire about the said springs and the man started yelling at my mother telling her not to ever bring business to the store again. my mother is a very polite woman and does not deserve to be treated this way. it saddens me to think your local store whom we’ve been shopping for since i was a small kid could treat anyone this way. Terrible, rude, and impatient customer service. I used to believe in buying local... I will take my business somewhere else. Atte: David Doyle (owner) please reconsider who you have interacting with your customers.

Places that offer Groupons and then act like jerks about it really make me mad. I used their Groupon ($30) to buy a Yeti cup. The total was $41 so I paid an additional $11. My husband didn't want the Yeti (I bought mine a few years ago at THIS store, so I don't need one.) Anyway, I wanted to buy something different using the $41 (and I probably would have spent more) but all I would get for an exchange was $11 because they don't take returns on Groupon. I didnt want a return, I wanted an exchange and the Yeti was brand new, it's not like they couldn't have sold it... Anyway, I will just NEVER shop here again. EDIT - Thanks for responding, but I don't see anywhere in Groupon about this. Could you please forward me the terms and conditions? I'm so curious. Also, could they possibly have any idea what I bought? Are they are keeping track? This makes no sense, I just wanted to exchange a brand new Yeti cup for something different - I'm sure they wouldn't know or care.

I found exactly what I needed. I was looking for that small part to finish a project and the "Big Box" home stores didn't think it was important enough to stock it. I needed a Tee Nut and adjustable screw in "feet" to put on the bottom of bare wood bench legs. The bench in going on the patio and if water soaked up into the legs, it would quickly ruin the bench. Thank goodness the little and overlooked neighborhood Hardware Stores did! We need stores like these to be there when we need them for the assortment of little necessities they carry. Thanks B for a good experience.

Simply a great place to shop for gifts of all kinds & gourmet items not found elsewhere in town. Reminds me of the many hours I spent during college roaming around, buying & having High Tea at the "old school" Scriveners Hardware & Tea Room back in the 80s. Great, friendly & helpful customer service here at Sunset & Co. But, I do so miss Scriveners Hardware &Tea Room that was on 410 at Broadway for decades & the 78209 ladies & that gratis dessert cart the lady pushed around! - the main reason I suspect it was always busy at lunch).

During the so-called 'retail apocalypse' it's rare to find a genuine mom-and-pop store. What was most surprising is I feel like I would receive better customer service using the self-checkout at Home Depot. Hoping this was not because I'm clearly not white and affluent like the majority of neighborhood/clientele, as suggested in another review. In these times and in the friendly state of Texas, I expect (and get) great customer service, but Gina wasn't feeling it today, I guess. Or maybe she shouldn't work in retail.

Just love this awesome & unique store and gift shop. They just have everything from gorgeous personalized wedding gifts like silver platters and wooden cutting boards to small kitchen appliances to beautiful dresses & clothing, old times children’s toys and it’s a hardware store all rolled into one. They also offer cooking classes some days. Such a fun experience to look around & find a perfect gift for someone or for yourself. Do yourself a favor & drop in. You will be very glad you did.

This store has the cutest gifts for any occasion, as well as all your basic hardware needs. It may seem a bit strange to buy pjs at a hardware store, but they have them, and they are adorable! They also have the sweetest baby gifts, seasonal items, all things bbq grills, paint, and almost anything you can think of. If you haven't stopped in, you should, even if only to appreciate the sheer breadth of quality products in one reasonably sized store.

  • Kevin

Excellent neighborhood store with quality items. You can see that every item in the store is chosen with care. The staff is always helpful, and you never feel lost; I appreciate being asked if I need help as I walk through the store. The addition to the store looks great as well; and it always looks nice before the holidays. Glad to see this type of store still exists in the current age of stale, impersonal, big box stores.

Went here yesterday with my wife and two year old. Very nice store with nice stuff. Just wish we weren’t followed and watched by staff everywhere we go lol they thought we were gonna steal or something. And yes we were the only minorities in the store. I am a veteran, husband and father that works hard to live in this nice area of Alamo heights just wish we weren’t profiled. Made us feel very uncomfortable.

Excellent selection of hard to find grilling accessories at this upscale boutique hardware and gift shop. Subpar and lengthy return process…if you have to return anything ordered online for store pickup or curbside, set aside half an hour to be instructed by the store manager to call Ace Hardware corporate to walk the store manager through a lengthy return process using your phone.

  • Leslie Morrison

My favorite one stop shop! Always new merchandise beautifully displayed, fun events and the nicest and most helpful staff. Michael is my honey do and can fix anything from an old lemonade jug my mom left me to a vintage fan of my fathers. I love that they carry Benjamin Moore paint, so easy for my decorative painting company. One of the best stores in San Antonio (and beyond)

Gave this store a third chance, however as some others on the reviews have stated. It seems no matter what worker I try to get to help me, this store seems to not want to even look much less speak with someone that is Hispanic. I really thought it could have been a fluke, but 3 times? It really hurts and makes me feel disgusting just walking in, like I'm not wanted there

UPDATE: This place is awesome! For such a small store, they always have what I need or can order it quickly. The phone staff is also helpful in finding things I need before I go. I purchased something on ACE Hardware's website and picked it up here. Patrick was very helpful getting everything sorted and making sure the product was ready upon my arrival. I will be back!

  • Ellen Gallagher

The place has gotten a major face lift and looks beautiful! They expanded the store and now have a bigger selection of gifts. Fantastic place to Christmas shop and great customer service. One of their employees, a young woman named Reese, helped me search for the perfect Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. She was so helpful and had great ideas. Will be back soon.

This hardware store is so pathetically racist that it is sad and unfortunate for the great city we live in. My wife of 15 years received the worst treatment she has ever encountered in a retail establishment. Needless to say we will take our business, decency, and humanity elsewhere. Clearly this business is catering to one clientele and one clientele only.

  • Jay B

Great little store! I love walking through the store looking at all of the unique stuff they carry. They carry home goods, tools, kitchen supplies, gifts, accessories, seasonal decor etc! The staff never fails to greet you as you walk in, and they are always willing to help. Love coming here and it is made even more convenient that it is located close by!

  • Max

Beautiful store. The establishment is extremely clean. They have a huge variety of items. They often have items that big chain stores do not which makes them unique and also my go to hardware store. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. If you haven't been, it doesn't disappoint. I definitely be back and thanks for all your hard work.

  • Cynthia Bennett

Had breakfast at BOSS Bagel and popped into Sunset & Co for a quick look (1st time visiting). My friend and I were deeply offended as a staff member followed us around the store making us feel very uncomfortable the entire time we were there. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this glorified hardware store.

  • Pia B

Wonderful little hardware store! Whether you are looking for screws and washers, kitchen items, or a gift for a friend, chances are good you will find what you need. The store is well organized and tasteful with knowledgeable employees who will help you find what you need to complete your project.

  • Andrew De Luna

I came here looking to buy a grill and was just amazed at the variety of products they sell. It's hard to pin down exactly what kind of store this is and I love that. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their stock. Staff was also super friendly and helpful answering my questions.

  • Sandy Quinones

Great place with very helpful staff. I called in because I was having a difficult time replacing the florescent bulbs in my DynaTrap. Despite the fact that this item is not available, staff encouraged me to bring it in. Thank you to Michael & Edward who got it working.

  • Angela Morrow

My friend and I had a great time walking around the store. All the folks working the floor were very nice and helpful. But the woman working the cash register was so unnecessarily rude when my friend asked her how to apply a groupon that I refused to make a purchase.

  • Oui C'est Moi ValE

  • David Boyd

this is a nice upscale neighborhood hardware store. The usual basic hardware stuff, from garden hoses to grills to paint to plungers but also a nice selection of good housewares like Miele vacuums and Nespresso coffee machines. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

This place has such a variety of items, it feels like walking into a candy store! You will want to check out everything. Reminds me of those variety stores growing up. They are the only place that had the Bona microfabric pads. Very friendly staff.

  • Patrick Rhodes

How do I begin the review of Sunset & Company but to say they are absolutely the BEST!! My wife and I have been there several times over the past 3 to four months to inquire about Big Green Egg products and to purchase several other items

  • Michi B

I went to the store to return the gift that was purchased. I have the receipt and it it was one day over the 30 days I said I don’t want money. Can I just use credit because this is not my style. The attendant refused to help in anyway

  • Elli Sweet

Ordered some Mr. Bird suet which was impossible to find locally in Raleigh, NC. It was shipped right away and carefully wrapped with bubble wrap. Excellent service. Will be ordering from Sunset again in the future.

  • Isacelia JB

This place is way more than a hardware store! They have super cute stuff, a baby section, jewelry, and tons of Christmas stuff. But it's super expensive, $15 per ornament, $65 earrings, $80 pajamas, etc...

  • Jean Jones

Update: I visited the store last week, and it is still a great place to buy gifts. They have expanded the store and now have an even better selection of hardware and gifts. The staff is super helpful.
