My husband is part of the booming new business owners who are paying attention to office space at the Gateway. It was so exciting the first time we toured the area to find a grocer with fantastic lunch options and a hot/cold bar. This was the fall, jump ahead to winter and the many times we have gone into the store we both say the same thing almost instantaniously- "It's so COLD!" This isn't like once or twice it's every single time we have gone into the store since Thanksgiving and the temps started to drop. We came once to have some of the gourmet cookies and eat lunch in the little eat-in area with our daughters and had to leave since it was so cold. Today (2/3/20) We were in the store and the poor girl at the front register had her puffer coat zipped up around her legs. She had on a happy face and smiled at us and said nothing as I noticed her coat and got a funny look realizing she was so cold. I made a comment about the fact that the store has a vestibule (this is the double door system that most retailers build to keep a rush of cold or hot air from rushing into the main part of the building, you enter thru two sets of doors before entering the main store) I told her that management should increase the price of their soda refills if they are struggling to heat the place. She laughed timidly and checked us out. I looked and looked and searched for a way to contact management to tell them how sadly disappointed I have been in how cold their store is but I could find no CONTACT info anywhere. Looks like the company is family owned and the only mention of the owners is in a Trib article siting Scotty Niederhauser as owner or operator. This is a red flag Mr. Niederhauser - it's an epidemic. While we were there three other patrons all agreed they hate how cold it is, makes shopping rushed and quick. I have to think that might result in them spending less $ however I may be wrong and the dollars spent on keeping the place a balmy 59 degrees might be the savings keeping you in business. We love your store, so don't go under if the heat is the issue. But I think the thermostat could be re-evaluated!

Taste of the food on the Hot bar has really improved a lot since they opened. Got it tonight and the ribs were finally cooked long enough to be fall off the bone tender. When they first opened they just weren't cooking them low and slow for long enough. Now they are tender and very flavorful. Same with the brisket. Even the sides seem much better as well. Before they were pretty bland but now they seem to have gotten the seasoning just right. So if you tried the hot bar before and were disappointed in the taste like me, give them another try now and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much better it has gotten. Thanks for keeping the fat free milk at only $1.65 a gallon too. Best price in town! Think you'd do a much bigger lunch business if you improved the layout of the store to make the available seating more comfortable like a restaurant. Run two rows of booths along the windows where produce is now. Remove the clings on those windows to allow diners to look out and passers by to see people enjoying lunch in there. Current seating is awkward and uncomfortable because it's crammed in next to the shopping carts with no dividing low wall and all the customers have to navigate their carts around you as you try to eat. So when customers walk in the front door on the right they pass a isle on the right of booths for seating. With the right sides booths along the windows and the left side of booths against a new half wall. Then carts on the back side of that half wall. Then Produce after the carts.

I am coming here for EVERYTHING! First, I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, so I usually go to Costco due to their low cost and great quality. However, when I came here I was amazed to see that they had a great produce selection, BETTER quality than Costco, and I didn't analyze everything, but per unit, they were actually cheaper than Costco! THEN, there was a particular item I was looking for so I asked a guy if they sold it. He said usually at the salad bar, but he will sell me a container for a specific price. Also cheaper than Costco. I was stoked! I then asked how they were prepared because I am allergic to a particular ingredient. Just to be sure he had a cook whip up a batch that was sure to be free of that ingredient. I thanked him and told him I eat them every day, but finding them prepared that way has been tricky. He said he will make sure they always have it in stock, then introduced me to another worker, and told him my situation, so if he wasn't there I could ask him. LOVE THIS PLACE! Not only are they the kings of customer service, they have a really great selection and really great prices. I was very shocked to see others complain about the prices. Where else are these people shopping? 1982?

Impeccable Food, Amazing Prices, Super Cordial Staff! I think that pretty much sums it up. Im in town from california and staying at a hotel across the street for a month. Anyone from another state can attest to the fact that whenever you visit a new state, one cant help but feel like strangers. But coming to this store for the past several days everyday purchasing food makes u believe that you have been around this city for a while. Jesse and another young lady ( forgot her name who helped me on wednesday late afternoon) are both amazing. Every time i have gone to the store, JESSE has been more than gracious, welcoming and helped me with anything i asked for and went above and beyond to provide impeccable service. Food was FRESH, TASTY, WELL PRICED AND ABOVE ALL A+ QUALITY. Been buying sushi here past two days and its fresh, creative, of great quality and the sushi chefs were so kind to accommodate my request for extra ginger on the side. Whether you are a tourist or a local, u must visit this place and try them out. You will not be disappointed. I know i will be coming back again and again till the time im here in SLC. Thank you The store....you certainly are " The Store" for me....cheers

Great place. Nice staff and it's always clean. Highway robbery prices, however. Grab an iced coffee for $5, or get yourself a microwavable burrito for $6 (both are about double the price point at a place like Harmons). I'll come here if I need something quick because I live literally right next door, however myself and most of my neighbors go to Harmons for full-scale grocery shopping. It's just a lot cheaper. If you're in the Gateway and need to grab something quick, this is a great spot. If you live near by and are looking for a grocery store, you're looking at paying Whole Food prices + for nothing really too special. Honest opinion and no offense to those who run this customer friendly store. I know they can't compete with bigger store pricing, but it does not change the fact that the bigger stores are cheaper.

I like the store called "The Store". The original is in Holladay (or Cottonwood Heights?) & this one here @ The Gateway (wgich used to be my favorite mall- oh well things change ☺). Um here's my loot today, though I remembered why I went in after I got out... Elmhurst plant (based) milk.. Will go right back in there & find out if they have it.. Okay, so no Elmhurst (I like em cause they are more natural plant based milks w less additives (if any). BUT (and that's a big "but"), they have this (& it's lookin pretty natural, so I'll try..)[pic included too] & look how cool their sticker stuffs are: (pic) & so much local stuff it makes one happy!

  • Nabeel Ozman

Cashier was disconnected, rude, and not welcoming however was happy to hold a conversation to the people before and after me. Not sure what made that impression, and to leave my bags on the other side of the counter where the cashiers sit and have me grab them, instead of handing them to me or even moving them up front so it’s easier for me to grab. Not even a simple hello, thanks, welcome or happy to assist. Literally nothing. I’m only bringing this up because the cashier was SUPER cheerful and happy to assist both the people before and after me with laughs and smiles. Probably not going to be shopping here again due to that interaction.

  • George SantaCruz

I accidentally forgot my mask and they told me I cant shop without one. I cant believe they charge way too much for everyday items and they cant provide a cheap free mask like Target does? The cashier was so unprofessional about it too and I would have bought a mask if he was nicer! Doesn't he realize that some stores dont require mask now. I honestly forgot mine. I'll never walk in there again! The owner has been so nice everytime to me but her employees are ruining it for the regular shoppers. I would rather pay Postmates to deliver than walk in there ever again!

A small but quite upscale grocery with a deli. The best part is, it was open even on the Thanksgiving day. We arrived in Salt Lake City, and was looking for a grocery store to grab a few stuff. This was a store we found nearest and decided to hit on. The staff working there were very nice and helpful. We found everything that we were looking for. They have a lot of fancy different chips and dips. The fresh baked section was good. The muffins were decent. They have a good collection of essential Stuff, however, I must say, they are a bit expensive.

  • Robert Roder

I love the convenience of this store. They have great customer service and some of the best deli items. I love the specialty items I may be looking for. The meats are excellent quality and the prices are very competitive to big chains like Smith's or Harmon's. This store is a cross between Trader Joe's or Wholefoods. If you live in the Gateway this is where you should shop. Oh, and by the way the Hot bar and salad bar rock. Their in-house bakers and chefs are the best in Salt Lake City.

  • Thomas S

So happy to have this place in the neighborhood. Initially I was expecting this to be akin to a convenience store. Wrong. This is a full blown one-stop grocery store with an impressive selection of typical grocery items, as well locally sourced items, grab and go food, and a delicious hot-bar. The staff is friendly and attentive. I do wish it was open a little later and the prices will sometimes make you wince, but all in all, a very welcome addition to the area.

  • Tyler Scholes (Korundur)

Prices are expectedly high, but there's so many good and fresh foods, plus they have Leatherby's ice cream. They're very conscious of social distancing but there's usually not a lot of people in the store. I would definitely go more if I lived closer, maybe even just to stop in and get some black cherry soda or something from their selection of hot fresh food. It's also nice to have access to farmer's market foods outside of the farmer's market, too.

  • Cassie combs

This place is real charming. They have good Branding , local sweets, treats, shrubs, food and great gift options. Its like a nice market meets a Bodega with souvenirs. They have it all! Including toiletries, animal food and hot prepared foods. The prices of bath products are a little higher than the local grocery store but its the price you expect for a nicer "boutique market". They take EBT! That's so unexpected and a welcomed bonus!

  • Nichole Carmichael

We are so excited to have a grocery store at the gateway!!! We love living downtown and the only thing that could make our neighborhood better was a grocery store. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Of course you’re going to pay extra for convenience and we are ok with it. If your looking for bargain buys stick to the big box stores but if you want to support local business and eat great food, The Store is where it’s at!

  • Matthew Larson

Wow! I have seen a few smaller markets that really try to give the whole big market experience and I must say that the store in the gateway has a really good selection of almost everything to have a nice meal. They had fresh meats a really nice deli salad bar area they had all the ingredients and supplies in their long aisle. It really gave me a New York City kind of vibe with the tightness and knowing that we are in the gateway area.

  • Sijia Zhang

The stars I gave are because the customer service was fine, the place is close, and they sell pastries from fillings and emulsions, my favorite bakery. The prices really aren't worth it for most things, if I'm actually grocery shopping I'd rather go to the rancho markets nearby. Ridiculous upcharging but I guess people go for it anyway because it's close. I was really hopeful when the store initially opened up but I'm pretty let down.

  • GirlgeniusNYC

***Taking the concept of a "General Store" to the next level!! *** They literally have everything you could need. Paper plates. Cotton candy. Kombucha. Laundry soap. Boca burgers. Birthday cards. Socks. Ice. Board games. Popcorn. Gifts. Incense. La Croix water. Potato chips. Toilet paper. Health food. Salad bar. Cookies. Candy. Rice ramen! Donuts! I hope you will have as much fun exploring this store as I did!

  • Thomas Barrett

Treated me as if I were a thief which is not appreciated. I will not go in here again the staff is rude couldn't get any halo stood by ice cream for twenty minutes till employee asks are u guna buy something thing. I should have said yeah I would have bought two ice cream cones for me and the girl here but yeah you guys made me wait 20 minutes and then act like I'm doing something wrong.

  • Desiree Garey

Convenient but some things are super over priced. 2-3 times the price at a standard grocery store. Depending on what you need would be cheaper to just use instacart. Sushi is well priced. In response to the store reply: the tea, some frozen foods, deli sandwiches. Honestly, and not meaning to sound rude, it seems more on you to send out a secret shopper or something to compare pricing?

  • Ryan Briggs

Small and easy to miss, but worth a visit! These lovely folks have a great hot bar that changes daily, as well as a huge variety of craft soda, baked goods, and various baking and cooking necessities. Despite this store's small size, I've never struggled to find what I need. The only downside is that the selection of produce is rather tiny, though the quality tends to be good!

  • Robert Orchard

You guys are going to mess around and get somebody punched in the face. I asked a coworker where he got the retro logo Pepsi from and he said ,"The store." And I was like okay, smart alec which one? Smith's, Harmon's? And he goes "No, there's a place called THE STORE at The Gateway. I kind of felt bad after that but still... Going to have to check out THE STORE at some point.

  • Taylor Rene

Great location, fantastic selection of basic fruits and veggies. My favorite part is their fresh hot food and salad bar. It's a grocery store, not a 'convenience store' but with the same effect on prices of everyday needs. Which is a shame but I guess this is what happens when you have hipsters moving in from California making a good triple what we make here :) God bless 'em!

  • J R

Beautiful little store! With lovely fresh variety. Naturally overpriced for the convenience. BOGOs are the only good deals. CHECK the expiration dates! Seems many things are expired! Check sales prices, they ring up wrong sometimes & make sure you're not double scanned at the checkout. That has happened to me several times now.

  • Rich Kletting

Prices are higher in the same way 7-11 Stores are higher than a Costco or Smiths store. Convenience! It is well worth it to me (I live at Gateway) to walk to The Store and get such a large selection of everything. Can't say how much I enjoy having it so close to anyone who lives or works at Gateway. I'm so glad they came here!!

  • Addison Dover

This place is the best! They’ve got a great breakfast bar that’s always delicious, yummy sushi for lunch and an assortment of delicious treats. They’ve got all of this at a great price with amazing staff that make you feel welcome. If you’re in the area, this place is a great option for those who love great food options!!

  • Evan Dudley

The store is insanely convenient and although small, they have anything you’d ever need! The employees are always so helpful sweet! They have an awesome selection of locally sourced stuff and stuff I’ve never heard of - perfect for trying new things! Could not recommend this place enough - literally there everyday.

  • Jacklyn Briggs

The Store is the best! Lots of variety and selection available to get your grocery shopping done and they still has room for ready-made items when you want a quick bite. Love their focus on local and home-made feeling of their hot bar. Fantastic addition to The Gateway neighborhood!

  • Kelly Mejia

I live pretty close to this place and it’s a nice walk and pretty convenient. However, every time I go in the employees especially the girl cashier never smiles, and the manager seems annoyed that I forgot my mask. I don’t think I want to shop here anymore, stuck up and pricey.

  • Skyfoxmarine (Skyfox)

Living in the Altitude Apartments, this is the only convenient location to shop for groceries without a vehicle. While some things may seem a little pricey compared to big chain stores, most of the prices are fairly competitive; and again, the convenience makes this perfect.

  • Isabell Christofferson

Most of the staff here is super nice except a middle aged white woman who has the worst attitude of any customer service representative lol she is so bitter and mean lol but I’ll still shop here sometimes because it’s convenient and I like the prices and some products lol

  • Chris Midgley

In looking at their website it said they had wood fire pizzas. When I got there they had no idea what I was talking about. It was pretty disappointing. They are a good little neighborhood store. Prices are higher than a full sized store but less than a convenience store.

  • Tara Ogden

A bit spendy, but convenient location. They always have something cute we end up buying even when we went there just for a quick trip. My kids beg to go all the time. Everyone I've met working there has been very polite and great to chat with if I have questions.

  • Shawn Stoddard

The Store is a cool little place for everything you need, from coffee and donuts to sushi and sandwiches and everything in between. The deli is amazing & the staff is really friendly and helpful. Stop by and check out this little gem at The Gateway.

  • Brandon Walter Miller

Great store, amazing staff, a little pricey but worth the convenience so I don't have to go to a bigger store. I love living a block away! $5 sushi on Wednesday. Great breakfast and lunch/ dinner hot bar. Stuff is half off sometimes which is nice.

  • Ditto Scott

Here just about every day just because I live around the block. A bit pricey tbh. Not a fan of the in-store made food, personally. But works for quick grabs and basic grocery needs. Would not do my full shopping here. Staff is always great!

  • Ez Day

Somewhat limited & somewhat expensive selection leaning natural/organic, but they cover a wide variety of staples & convenience items, have a good selection of ready-made food, and the best AND cheapest grocery store sushi I've tried.

  • Alek Hernandez

Honestly I was so surprised when going into The Store, it is so cute and they have some great products. I love being able to have this so close to where I live. Its convenient and always so nice and clean! You have to check it out.

  • Cristina Christenson

The gateway has really upgraded their game! It has lots of street art, outdoor yoga during the summer, cool events, flea markets, The Store (awesome local grocery store), theater with reclining chairs, underground parking, etc.

  • Juan Ruiz

I come here almost every day to get lunch, I usually get a sandwich and a couple appetizers… If you see the guy wearing glasses at the deli go for a sandwich. I like the way he makes those sandwiches look, they all delicious!

  • Chelsea Paar

I bought shallots with bugs and have literally never had to deal with produce being infested like that. I would avoid buying any kind of fresh food here. I also had to throw out hamburger because it had a horrible funk to it.

  • Tim Q

Another reason to visit THE GATEWAY. THE STORE is a microcosm of your favorite high-end gourmet food store. Without the high prices! Convenient location. The staff is always friendly and service-oriented. Check it out!

  • C

This place is a hidden gem. They have great prepared food/buffet and all for a reasonable price. They woman who has consistently worked at the register during the early afternoons has been quite friendly as well!

  • L G

This place looks amazing. They have a good selection of produce, meat, deli items. The staff is friendly. Their salad bar looked delicious. Would recommend stopping by if you are in the neighborhood.

  • Marque Cawdor (Marc)

Good choice of offerings but somewhat pricy; handy to have in this location amidst the surrounding apartments & condos. Sadly, staff wasn't helpful to questions I asked about parking/validations.

  • **

Love this place! Has so many healthy choices and it's in a convenient location. I used to bring my daughter her all the time for lunches or just an easy quick healthy snack. Come check it out!

  • Cami

cute store with a decent selection but they had NO public restrooms which sucks when you have to go badly. the staff was rude as well when we asked them after buying a few (4) bottled drinks

  • Azura Das Kanji

I always love going here. It has a small yet wide selection of your certain needs. It being so small, gives anyone visiting the Gateway a quick fix for lunch, dinner, or a hot bar breakfast.

  • Jeff D

Great selections and offerings. Prices were on point. They had single beer selections as well for $2.50. I wish they had more local brewery selections, but they did have a good variety.

  • Robert S.

The Store is a perfect addition to the Gateway. It's a 3 minute walk from our home, the prices are reasonable, and it's open most hours of the day. Honestly couldn't be happier with it!

  • Sammy

Great place to pick up grocery items quickly, or what I might have forgotten to grab at the grocery store. They have some of the best local treats available, go to place for snack time.

  • Benjamin Webb (Ben)

A great little store in a very unlikely spot. You'd have to see it and experience it see how cool this store is. Great deli food and an unbelievable selection of other things

  • Luis Sosa

I definitely can tell that something changed at this place, this inflation don't have frontiers. The good news is that employees are still having their enthusiasm and smiles

  • Jesse

Good lord! Price gouging and they’re proud of it. Please remember we are in a pandemic and not everyone in SLC can afford 3.99 for an energy drink. The sushi is good though.

  • Brandie NOLA

I really like the Store. A very good selection of merchandise for a small shop. Great hot bar and salad bar reasonably priced. Plus my favorite waffle cone ice cream.

Very few employees wear masks and no attempt at reducing the spread of COVID. Besides that, the store doesn't quite have everything I need to cook.

  • Jordan Brun

A great grocery store tucked in at the heart of Salt Lake. Perfect for an afternoon snack on a sunny day or a night of shopping at the Gateway.
