despite being extremely overpriced they generally have a good range of products, there are things they don’t restock quickly or at all despite being popular & which you’d require multiple of and i wouldn’t buy them unless they have deals like 3 for 2 etc due to the price items on sale are never in the correct place, they’re mixed with similar or the same products from different companies (why are WH Smith original products more expensive than alternatives in the same store) used to go in after using the inpost 24/7 locker outside the store however it’s been moved inside. defeats the purpose of being 24/7 access if the store closes at 5-6, especially for people like myself stopping on the way after a day of work or school and are physically unable to get there any earlier, or if you just happen to be in the area and it’s too early/late for them to be open only giving two stars because they have a wide variety of products and is still located pretty close to the bullring so it’s not too much of a walk from the bus stops near moor street station

Went to buy a card. Ohh my goodness, there's no pattern whatsoever of where each section is. The cards are at the front, middle, back, round corners, ohh I will never go in to buy another card even though I have a 25% off voucher. Shambles ! I asked a young girl where sympathy cards were & even she didn't know. She said she would Go and ask a colleague, but never came back to me. I found her stringing up newspapers. I said did you find out please and she said"oh I forgot". Great customer service that?

This branch is set out over two levels. The ground floor is split into two sections, both of which have their own entrance/exit. Both sections of the ground floor has a selection of magazines, cold drinks and snacks which makes it convenient to quickly get what you want and be on your way. The first floor has a large selection of books, boardgames and stationery. The staff are on hand to point you in the right direction of anything you need and are pleasant and helpful.

Items are overpriced though stock is well varied. The one time I entered, I had planned to purchase a book that I had seen online reduced by half. The book in store did not have a price tag so I naturally assumed it was the price online. Waiting in the queue only to be told that price was exclusively available if ordering online. Something not clearly stated and exacerbated only by the lack of a price sticker in store. Was not happy as it was a wasted trip.

Despite moving into a new location, this hasn't been for the best. Significantly smaller store, poor selection of products. Clearly not enough staff are employed to look after the shop floor - it's always untidy. Prices aren't competitive. Sadly WHSmith has become my last resort if I can't find what I need elsewhere, rather than a first choice for anything.

  • Dean Fisher

A much reduced store now a few doors down from their previous location. Still the best selection of magazines on the High Street. Good section on fiction and educational/learning books. Food & drink overpriced but cheaper options nearby. Staff member I interacted with was helpful but not always the case.

The shop has been there for a long time. But they have moved a few units down into part of the former BHS on Union Street. Magazines / newspapers were on the ground floor. Books and stationary etc was on the first floor. Not sure yet if the new WH Smith store will be on two floors.

If I wanted a bar of chocolate for a £1 I would have picked one up thanks! Why do you insist on asking this every time I buy something? Not satisfied with that you get accosted by charity do gooders blocking the doorway as you leave. Sort it out Smiths, a very poor experience!!

We were shopping at WHSmith for my daughter who needed stationary supplies in anticipation of returning back to school with the new term starting. There were very good offers on A4 writing pad and also scientific Casio calculators which are suitable for GCSES.

  • Raxso P

Unhappy with the service. This is the second time I've been to this store and last time too. The girl over the counter never smiles. My order took too long to find. I eventually had to point it out. Gentleman was apologetic so that's why I'm giving it 1 star.

  • Adam Round

Store layout is pretty awkward, especially for disabled customers. It's an oddly shaped unit and it's clear they're struggling to work with it but it makes finding anything a chore. Staff are lovely though, and go a way towards redeeming the awful building.

  • Michael Want

Unfortunately Birmingham city centre Smiths is a shadow of its former self. It's tiny with a very limited stock. Just been in there looking for three specific items (none of them outlandish) and not a single one was in stock. Such a shame.

  • Saj Tyk

All your stationary needs in one place! If you're not fussy about money and silly things like that then this is the place you can get almost everything! Although I hardly shop here because money is a factor. I've recently bought an item

  • supermullers

Excellent store. Friendly staff. Loads of magazines. Loved the fact they stock Record Collector. Just like the glory days of the late 80's and High Street. Too many self serve tills but that';s the modern way sadly.

  • Andy Smith

To be fair I walked straight in, found exactly what I needed and then was served speedily by a helpful and efficient assistant. But the store just feels a little sad. This whole area of Birmingham needs a revamp.

  • James Le Grys

This new store already looks "tired" (I blame HO not the store staff) - shelves piled high with expensive 'bargains', self service tills rather than human interaction for the customers, a place I normally avoid!

  • Alfaima Solano (FalaF)

There is a lot of variety and good quality items here at good price. There are also interesting sales on stationary, books or even groceries. You can pay auto-service so the check out could be really fast.

  • Shirley Patricia Cooper

staff are polite and proffessional helpful unlike some city centre shops. standards are very high. Good selection of stationary Magazines and newspapers. I don't feel pressured into buying straightaway,

  • Ozy Amir

Standard whsmith store. Only lacking selection of products in store compared to other whsmith stores. Considering location you probably get get everything you need from another store nearby cheaper

  • Diane ANSLOW

Good service, books I'd ordered were there ready to collect, didn't have to wait long for them to be bought to me, didn't have to go upstairs either to get them, were bought down to me

  • A Cocks

Brill yet again. Just one of a few shops that are there for your needs and hopefully not closing down at a alarming rate. Soon there be just food shops with nothing to see or do?

  • David Millan

Despite its recent refit, the shop looked dark and gloomy inside. I needed some help but assistants seemed to prefer to leave the running of the shop to the self service tills.

  • Paris S

James and his colleague working the Sunday shift on 16/05/21 went above and beyond to ensure I was looked after in my visit. Found my book and purchased it! :)

  • Abrar Din Hussain

A well stocked shop. Great customer service. A bit cramped in the shop due to it being well stocked. I'm able to find all the stationary under one roof.

  • David Holmes

Not as much choice of items as the old store. The staff member we spoke to though did his best to help us look for the book we needed but to no avail.

  • sam owen

22/06/19 19:10 Woman on the tills was chatting with a customer instead of serving me, I am severely unhappy with the service and will not come again.

  • Rama Bhardwaj

  • Jit Pundal

Had to buy a present for a "Frozen" fan, nothing available in Bham, but the young lady went to the back to find me something, Thank You

  • Katie Maher

Despite a recent refit, it still feels old and outdated. A wide variety of goods but unfortunately overpriced compared to competitors.

  • Ayesha Squire

Great store good for most books, disabled friendly and very helpful staff. You can get a small boot scooter around or wheelchair.

  • Andrea Valentini

One of the cheapest places to buy books, there's always a good deal. Free in-store collection for online orders can take a while.

  • Howard Ricketts

Since they moved location the shop is obviously smaller but it's still a great place for books, magazines, chocolates and games.

  • Ivan Brosnan

A good store with products clearly displayed and selling all good quality books, magazines and stationery for affordable prices.

  • Asma Parvez
