I chose to check out A-1 Self Storage after being very dissatisfied with my previous experience with Public Storage. I found A-1 online and it being so close to my home, I thought, the location couldn't be more convenient for me! I visited their office and after 2 minutes of just walking in, I knew this was going to be a lot smoother of an experience than I had had with Public Storage last year. I was helped by Wendy who was nothing short than top notch! She was polite, professional and extremely helpful. After showing me a few different units, for size comparison, Wendy was patient and accommodating throughout. The move was quick and painless, thanks to their adequate supply of moving dollies and LARGE elevators! I was especially pleased with how well kept and clean the entire complex was. The public restrooms here were cleaner than many restaurant bathrooms! Superb customer service, exceptional cleaning crew, and easy affordable and convenient storage units! I'm sure everyone can agree that moving is stressful enough on its own, why add any more stress to the process?! For a hassle free experience, go with A-1; the best in the business!

Renting a unit was very easy. I reserved online and came in to complete paperwork and setup recurring payments. A lock was included in the costs. Boxes are available for purchase. Upon inspecting the unit, we found that I had initially reserved a unit with a pipe that took up some of the sq footage, so I was offered a different unit (at an increased price since it has more usable sq ft). I rented for 6 months until I moved into a larger space that could afford all my belongings. In my time renting, accessing my unit has always been easy using the keypad controlled gates. When I no longer need the unit, it was very easy to end my rental. I emptied my unit, went to the front office, let them know i had cleared it out. They gave me paperwork to sign and that was it! I ended up leaving my lock in the door, and they let me know that it was mine to keep or I could donate it back. I was too lazy to go back to the unit so I just left them with the keys. Super super straightforward storage rentals. I have no hesitation to recommend.

I rented a larger unit from May through August for auto and personal property storage for my college age daughter. Patty and Karen, of A1 Storage, have been my points of contact and the helpfulness of both has been great. I live in the Midwest and I've never been to the facility so all of my contact has been via phone, email and Internet. In every instance they provided clear and on-the-spot information, stood by their word and were flexible and accommodating to my needs. All they asked from me was basic personal and insurance/auto information and not much else and all paperwork was done via email. A1 also made it very easy for me to pay my monthly billing online and on time. The whole experience has been pleasant and simple and has transpired exactly as agreed. I give this facility a Five Stars rating and when the need arises I will use their services again.

I reserved online, was driving a truck into town from north of LA. Due to traffic, I showed up at 6:02pm on March 5th. The office closes at 6pm, but the lady who was working there (I apologize that I can't remember her name) saw me looking desperate outside the door and stuck around for another 15 minutes to check me in. Her kindness absolutely saved my move, and left me with a great impression of the service at this location. The facility is clean and in good shape, and the drive-up unit I rented is exactly what I needed. There's a restroom near my unit, which is convenient, but it was locked at night when I was loading, which was a bummer. The only surprise I had was that the unit doesn't have any lights, so we had to point a car's headlights in so we could see what we were doing at night. I came by another day when it was light out and it's fine then.

I'm so glad I chose this particular storage place. I was going to use one closer to my home, but after some shady reviews and an obvious push by whoever "James" in Northpark is I decided to go with A1 off of Friars Rd. It's in a very convenient place just off the 163 so getting in and out is unbelievably easy. Not what you'd expect with a place off of Friars. The facility itself is everything that you could expect from a storage lot, and is well kept and easy to navigate. The front desk staff is very helpful and kind. You never know what to expect from a storage lot when it comes to customer service, but Kaela J was as sweet and accommodating as can be. It's not often you actually enjoy signing paperwork, but Kaela J and the rest of the staff made even that a pleasant experience. This is my new go-to storage facility!

My wife and I needed a storage space. She called and found out what we needed,and I went in to complete the paper work. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Took just a few minutes to complete the paperwork, take a look at the space and put a lock on it. We got a great rate and a free month too. I can't recommend A-1 strongly enough! About 2 months after we got a unit we found that it was too big and we needed to downsize. I went over there and was told that it would be no problem. I was shown a new unit that was just the right size. In about 2 hours, I had moved my things into the new unit using A-1's courtesy cart. The staff was extremely helpful and my account was pro-rated to reflect the lower monthly fee. In addition, as retired military, I got a 10% discount. Bravo A-1!

Initial post was 1 star: Rates creep up regularly without much notice. Mine went up 15% over a 18 month-period, far exceeding inflation or normal business practice. As if it was not bad enough, cancelling was a hassle. Once I had stated my intention to vacate and paid through my last day, I kept receiving collection attempts on my credit card for the following month as if I hadn't cancelled... I had to call 3 times (and go through the process of canceling 3 times) to finally complete the process UPDATE: withing a couple hours of my post, I received a call from the area manager in order to address my post. He was very professional and addressed all of my issues. I'm very impressed and happy to change my rating to 5 stars.

This place is a gem! They have the best customer service and such a streamlined process. Last summer, I was able to set up a storage unit remotely for my son who was a local college student. His experience moving in was equally good. Then, this year.... our son had to move out of his dorm on short notice due to Covid and this place was again a gem! When 1 location was already sold out, they referred us to another location nearby. Their customer service was excellent as well. And my son said move in went smoothly again- which was such a blessing because of the stressful conditions we are all experiencing. The heroes at this place will be on my list of "Who were heroes you experienced during Covid?" Many thanks!

Patty is wonderful!! I showed up about 10 minutes till 6 (which is when they closed) because my moving plans changed and I needed a unit ASAP! I know first hand how aggravating this is from working in a restaurant and having those last minute customers too! Patty took me in regardless! She was quick, efficient and detailed. She showed me the ropes and even took the time to make sure my code was set properly with me. The business is very clean and felt extremely safe. They have a great 25% deal for buying moving supplies when you purchase 10 or more boxes. I am very glad to be at this location and VERY glad to have been helped by Patty! I was a little stressed out, I needed to find a storage facility THE SAME DAY I was moving, and this place turned out to be awesome. Patty at the front desk was more than accommodating - polite, kind, and super helpful. We toured the facility to make sure the room would be big enough for our needs and got set-up right away. She placed us as close to an elevator as possible and with their flatbed carts, moving in was pretty painless! We got a deal on the 1st months rent and getting in and out of the facility with the key code is super easy. I feel really good about choosing this location, price-wise, security-wise, and customer service-wise, and my whole experience was great overall!

For my purposes, this storage location was super convenient! Experience here is a breeze. I thought I would have trouble finding a unit that was suitable for my needs, but I had one that was perfect! It was a top stacked unit like a large locker! The staff sends an emailed invoice and courtesy reminder for payment, which for a paper bill triggered person like me was very helpful! Thanks to Patty and the staff for being so helpful. The fact that I know the first name of a person at a business I've only visited on two or three occasions within a 5 month period demonstrates how easy and personable it is to communicate by phone with this facility. Everyone has been great!

Having to move from Tampa, FL to San Diego, CA I had ordered my unit online. In addition I would not be in San Diego when my belongings arrived. Darlene who worked with me the whole time was indispensable........She took so much time reassuring me that everything could be taken care of with my brother there to assist the movers. Darlene kept me informed of everything that needed to be done each step of the way. The facility is clean and well maintained, and so easy to move your belongings from a truck into the unit. I wouldn't use another facility, this one has my complete confidence. Thank you Darlene for all your help!!!

Having recently rented a unit at another storage place in the Mission Valley area, I can honestly say A-1 is steps above the competition. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. The staff members are very friendly and extremely helpful - especially compared to the employees at the last place I rented. If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that I wish the gate code box was on the driver's side of the car - but that's just me being lazy. Their prices are comparable to other facilities, but the value for those prices is much higher at A-1 Self Storage. So glad I made the switch!

I didn't quite know what to expect from a self storage facility, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The front office staff members were very friendly and welcoming, they engaged with me as soon as I walked in. The check-in process and review of policies was very easy and clear. The lady that helped me check-in was very kind to show me how to access the storage lot as well as my storage locker. Overall I was very satisfied with my interaction with the staff as well as my storage locker facility. I feel that my belongings are very safe in the care of A-1 Storage!

I actually found this place through yelp. I looked it up and found great reviews. I am a person that appreciates great service and after reading the yelp reviews, I believed it was the right place for me. It was easy to find and in a great location. It was my first time renting a storage room and had no clue about how to go about it but they were very helpful and informative. Brad was great, he gave me a great deal and cared about what was best for me. I did not feel ripped off at all. I left smiling and was satisfied with my choice to store my personal belongings there.

It was easily accessible off of the freeway and very convenient. I had plans to leave the state for a long period of time, which ended up exceeding a year. There was no doubt in my mind that my newly purchased furniture and priceless belongings would be safe until I was able to retrieve them. The facility is very secure, clean, and well-kept. It was a few extra bucks more than I originally planned to spend but was well worth the piece of mind. I guess it's up to you if you really want to store your possessions in El Cajon to save a dollar...

I found A-1 Self Storage through Yelp and sent an inquiry. They were fast with a response and helpful. I went in on Sunday, March 1st to make sure I had reserved a large enough unit. Patty was so informative and helpful. She took me on a tour of the unit she felt was going to meet my needs. She was right on the money. The process was quick and I was able to move my stuff in a few hours later. I would definitely recommend A-1 self storage to anyone in need of storage for convenience, professionalism and cost. It was adequate and functional. It got the job done without glitz or glam. I liked that there was enough parking, a clean bathroom and a kind and amenable receptionist. The other users were cooperative as well. It seemed easy to get around. It was a bit difficult to get to though because it was in an area with a lot of traffic. I had to wait at least 5 times for the light before I could turn from the freeway onto the street that the establishment was on :( . So a bit of a bad location but everything else was top notch

I had a last minute move to Santa Barbara from San Diego and A-1 welcomed me with open arms. Karen was the Associate who checked me in, as well as checked me out of my unit. She was extremely helpful, and so were the other staff members I got a chance to speak with. I had never had to do a move like this and get a unit, but they were all very helpful. I want to thank you all so much for your excellent customer service. What I miss most about San Diego, are the people, everywhere you go. Thank you, A-1 Team!

I'm a fan for life! I've rented from a handful of storage facilities over the past 25 years, and none compare to A-1. I've been renting from this Frazee Rd facility for 2.5 years, and the other day I needed to rent an additional unit. Linda was very helpful and friendly, setup was a breeze, I had boxes and keys in hand and was on my way with a smile in no time. Staff was fast, friendly, and professional. Booking/renting my unit online was simple and easy. The pricing of the unit and circle lock (required for your unit and charged ~$10 if you need one) was quite reasonable. The elevators for upper level units are a bit archaic and small, but serviceable. I was expecting there to be a light for my unit (8' x 10') but that was not the case. The hallways to the units are also a little narrow, making movement of larger items into the units a little awkward.

I had called several days before arriving in San Diego and spoke to Patty about a storage space. She was very helpful. When we arrived at the A1 facility on Frazee Road we were fortunate that Patty was in the office that day. She was very helpful and professional. She had described the storage unit and its access by a large moving van perfectly. This location is a very nice storage facility with plenty of room for any size vehicle. Good service and secure location. Pricing is a bit high, but that’s pretty standard for San Diego-it’s almost like paying rent on an apt. in other parts of the country. Also included in the deduction of a star in rating A-1 comes from the insistence that I prepare this evaluation itself. When will companies learn that in order to extract our data/thoughts on their place of business, that consumers should be incentivized to do so? In short, reward your customers for writing reviews!

I was extremely stressed after dealing with a bad and unprofessional moving company who tried to use my belongings to jack the price up an additional $1500.00 knowing It was the 12th hour and escrow was closing/recording the next day, our conclusion was to get a storage space the next morning and keep my belongings on their truck. A-1 was very helpful and professional, got me in quickly so I could unload from that moving company's truck and set them on their way. Thank you!!!!!

Well, long story short I forgot to authorize a new CC for payment and was 1 month behind and in the process of having a lien placed on my unit. I have been with A-1 Self Storage for close to 5 years and when I’ve had an issue a young lady by the name of Patty has helped me as she did in this instance. My partner and I have had our storage unit at list location for a couple of years and were very satisfied. The location is great and central. The place is well maintained and I loved having our unit in the covered, drive up area. As for customer service, Patty was always fabulous!!! In fact, she worked at another location a few years ago and she mentioned she was going to work at this location, which was a huge factor in us choosing the location Patty was moving to.

We had a great experience renting our 10x10 from A-1 on Frazee Road. Every worker that we came across was friendly, helpful and listened to what our needs were and tailored their assistance to us. The grounds and facility were clean, easy to get in and out of and safe. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone wanting to use a space for a short time or long time. It's centrally located in San Diego and was very close for us. They're doing a fantastic job!

My contact person here is Patty and she is an asset to this place. She is very professional and has a great sense of humor and is always smiling!! (which is rare to find these days). I really don't think you can get more helpful than Karen was to me just this afternoon. She fielded my questions on the phone, and, when I arrived there in person, was welcoming, informative in the clearest way possible, and patient with all of my dense-headed clarifying questions. She was cheerful the entire time and earnest to set me up with the right space for my needs. I don't remember the last time I was treated so well in any similar situation.

I would recommend A1 storage to anyone! I actually had an issue with another neighboring storage facility being rude and unaccommodating so, panicked, I decided to call somewhere else. A1 was soooo friendly and helpful. They got me into a storage unit after 6pm with their easy to use kiosk. They helped me pick a unit that was the perfect fit for all my stuff and with a great deal for the month I needed it for. I am so thankful to A1 Self Storage!

When I need storage, I always use A-1 storage! Convenient hours and location, great prices and specials. They've always had the space I've needed. The staff is super nice and helpful. I like that the website gave accurate pricing so I could go in and get what I wanted. Plus you can also reserve the space you want and pay online. Although I can usually find one, they could use a few more carts. All-in all, I would highly recommend A-1 storage!

Overall we are very happy. We recommend an inside 1st floor space, they seem to stay cooler. Very clean and really happy we picked A1 over public storage. Good price, friendly staff. Biggest complaint.....we can ALMOST never find a cart to use. I ve walked one entire building....nothing there. It is VERY frustrating when we have some heavy stuff to move and need to make multiple trips when it could have been done in one.

I found the staff at A-1 Self Storage exceptionally accommodating, from reserving my space for an upcoming date to proactively reaching out to ensure I still needed the space as the date approached. The personal attention to taking a customer to their space and reviewing everything from how to access the space, open it and use the elevator properly was very much appreciated. I also found the facility to be very clean!

My unit location was very convenient, however removing dumpsters created extra burden, & over 8+ years that I rented unit(s) the price increases made it unreasonable to stay there. Also the staff I have communicated with is not very friendly now compared to the previous employees. I guess you consider storage as a transient business, so there is no focus on loyalty to long-term customers... it is a shame!

Great Service, and I felt like the customer service representatives were available and upfront about everything I should expect about renting from them. My only concern is pest control, as both times I accessed my unit I saw bugs (roaches) and a dead bird on the ground near the entrance to my unit. Otherwise, I really appreciated how easy A-1 storage makes it to reserve and rent a space.

I've done a few storage units over the years being active duty military, and I'll be honest these are amongst the best. I do like also that if you check in on yelp you get a reward offer. The customer service was amazing. Only things I wish were longer hours (but I get it) and I wish I had a light inside my unit or at least an outlet to plug up a light. Other than that, no complaints.

I had to move my stuff out of storage due to finally finding a place to live. The staff there was incredibly nice, welcoming and comforting. I am very pleased with this location and I definitely will be coming back if I ever need storage again. Plus its center location from a lot of things in San Diego. I give it a 5star rating. PS. Patty was helpful, nice and caring! She ROCKED!

The facility and staff are awesome here at this location. The process to complete our unit was fast and easy (thank you Patty). There is definitely enough room to maneuver with cars, trucks or moving trucks and there is definitely enough room in the hallways to get your items to your unit. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone needing storage in the San Diego area.

This facility is more friendly to get around. I like the fact that it has flatbed cart available to use for free. Not like other places you have to pay for to their cart. There’s one thing I found inconvenient to me was you have to get out of your car walk up to the key pad enter code every entry and exit gate. Good thing that’s not much rain or never snow in this area.

Excellent experience with this A-1 Self Storage in Fashion Valley! I was able to reserve my unit online and go fill out all the paperwork the next day! The customer service was excellent and friendly. Keep in mind they make you pay a monthly fee for insurance/protection on your unit...so your price will be a tad bit higher than quoted. I went there today looking for temporary storage while my fiancee and I are in-between apartments. Lulu was very helpful. She showed a couple of units until I found the right size. She was very friendly and the prices are affordable. They also sell couch covers, mattress covers, boxes, and other moving/storage supplies. Good Experience overall and I will recommend.

Elizabeth answered all my phone questions accurately, courteously and professionally. When I visited the office, Patty showed me the space and completed the paperwork efficiently and courteously. Customer service of that caliber is unusual today. And from TWO people at the same enterprise. Both Elizabeth and Patty deserve a raise. Well done!

I compared different storage facilities in the area. I walked into the Mission Valley office & Jessica was awesome. Very friendly and worked hard to make sure I had the correct sized unit and the best special she could. I appreciated her attention to detail and her diligence. Renting storage here was easy and a pleasure. Emma suggested we look at the space first and yes, I did need something larger. The facility is exceptionally clean. The entrance, buildings and storage units are clearly marked. Staff is very friendly and everything is explained and there are no "hidden" costs. I highly recommend A-1 at Frazee.

Simple and fast process I bought my unit online. Showed up during office hours to the office to sign my lease and buy a lock for $10. The guy at the counter took me to my unit and unlocked it. Showed me the elevator and how to work it. I don't have any complaints. I wish there were more elevators but it's my own fault for being cheap.

I recently needed a storage unit, as I was in the midst of moving and my new place wasn't quite ready yet. Although I showed up minutes before closing, Patty helped me anyways and got me into a storage unit so I could start moving the same night! I was very pleased with the service I received and continue to receive. Thank you guys!

A-1 Self Storage has been so wonderful to us. Driving our car across country to store was hard enough, but the people there found us a storage garage quickly and easily and were there when we arrived to get us all settled in. The ladies in the office were so helpful and considerate. We recommend A-1 for all your storage needs!

I was upset because I couldn’t understand why I got my rent raised 3 times in less than 2 years. But I went to the office and the staff was so kind, understanding and treated me with respect. The prices are high in my opinion but other than that, I was able to change my experience and I will definitely recommend this company.

A-1 is the most amazing storage place. Its super easy and fast. I was in and put with exactly what I needed and the first month was free! And Brad in fashion valley was really awesome and extremely helpful. I strongly recommend if you need storage quick, friendly, clean, secure, and affordable, no one beats A-1! No one!!!

Excellent service. I feel safe storing my stuff at A-1. The lady at the front desk is super nice and the facility is clean and orderly. My only concern was the lack of flat-bed carts on auction day. If the staff wanted to really go the extra mile, they could have moved carts from other parts of the facility on that day.

Had my storage unit for 24 years with A-1. Never had any problems. Paid my rent on time, they never had any issues with me nor me with them. Just recently emptied out my unit. I was with them for 2 months, I'm about to vacate this month. Nothing to complain about this place, It's clean, easy access, and it's right next to a police station. Before I rented the storage I looked for prices and based off of 4 other places in the area this storage place had the most reasonable rate.

I've rented 2 storage units here for years and I am on the property almost daily for my business. The current staff is excellent and a marked improvement above the previous management/staff. Lulu, especially, is always helpful and cheerful. Even the janitorial/maintenace staff there is friendly. 5*****

Fantastic! They worked with me to get what I needed , showed me spaces and in less than 30 minutes I was set to go with a storage space. The location is easy to access, clean, secure and the people that work there are great! I am going to get another storage unit at one of their other locations too!

A-1 Self Storage is the best! I had a large storage unit for over a year at A-1 and the facility has always been safe and very tidy. Emma helped me close out and was so helpful. The entire Staff is caring and professional. I highly recommend A-1 Self Storage to any person who needs a storage unit!

The staff (Linda) are very friendly and helpful. The facility is clean and well maintained. Access to the storage areas is easy. There are moving hand truck available to move heavy items and a freight elevator for access to the upper floors. Overall, my experience with them was very good.

They were always polite and professional. I had no problems while I was deployed and it was stress-free experience. Tip: keep in mind that they do not offer refunds so if you need to change from a monthly rate to a weekly/daily rate, let them know so that you are not charged beforehand.

I just rented an unit from this facility and from the moment I reserved the unit up to closing, Kaela has been wonderful. She called me as it stated on the email and picked out an unit and she was waiting for us and see it. The experience we had with her was memorable. Thank you, Kaela.

The front office people were very polite, very friendly, very helpful and even took the time to take me to the storage unit that was assigned to me. The storage space was climate controlled with air conditioning and there was a lift to get our stuff up (and down) to the second level.

I went to A-1 Storage today to inquire about a locker situation and the customer service I received from the two young ladies working there was “top-notch”. It is one thing to have a good secure storage unit, but that along with great service makes it that much better.

Absolutely amazing service. I had to change the space I wanted and Karen at the front desk was very accommodating. She took me to see a view units until I selected the one I wanted. She was very patient and made the process very easy. I would rent here in the future.

Great location, outstanding customer service and unbeatable price. Loved their renewal terms and concept of lease signing date as anniversary date. They also offer prorated billing for the last month of bill based on the usage. Highly recommend it for storage needs.

I had excellent service here. No hidden fees, quick replies to email inquiries, easy in and out, will be using them again on my move back to San Diego. Interior storage unit was clean, smelled fresh, items stayed dry and cool even in hot heat (not a cooled unit).

Is a great place to rent a storage unit if living in Mission Valley. Very convenient and easy access without having to get on the freeway. Fairly big facility so seemed to have a wide variety of rental options the time i was there.

I actually have a 911 mergency and the 911 box was locked!!! So I had to drive to emergency!!! And no one to help!!! But I know some is there... I can see the light on and no one answered the emergency ring when I pressed it!!!

So far so good! The storage unit was clean and easy to access, they're reasonably priced and the online website is easy to use! Plus, their hours are great, you can access your storage unit whenever it's convenient for you.

Friendly office staff. All my dealings with them were short and sweet. Once I moved out it was very easy to cancel. My only complaint is that the units are not available 24 hours a day, which would be really nice.
