Since Friday 6/16/2023, I have visited the Barton Creek Mall Location 3 times. My first visit on the 16th as a Father's Day gift was disappointing due to cleanliness, lack of customer service, stale popcorn, and out of stock/unprepared concessions. My second visit on the 18th as a Father's Day gift was disappointing due to cleanliness and lack of customer service. On both days, I observed at least 7 employees behind the counter engaging in conversation amongst themselves, not providing customer service while the line of customers stood and waited. Cleanliness of the drink station was disgusting due to only 2 of the 4 drink machines operating properly on the left side of the theater. My third visit on the 19th is my reason for this review. I brought my oldest son and youngest daughter to see Spider-Man. While they were observing the movie, I decided to inquire about employment. I asked a young lady who the manager was on duty, and she directed me to the front counter. When I approached the counter, a gentleman hiding behind the counter gave me a strange look like I was bothering him. I asked him a couple of questions about how to go about applying to this location and if he could write some of this information down for me. That's when he gave me attitude like I was bothering him and got rude with me about asking him if he could write down this information. I proceeded to ask him for his name, and he refused to identify himself. I told him if he was actually the manager, that surely he could identify himself due to being management. After going back and forth with him, Andy finally identified himself, and I told him that I would be notifying corporate about his actions. He gave a rude remark and stated, "Go ahead and tell them as I was exiting the theater." I would like to address Andy for making my visit horrible and embarrassing due to his actions as Management. If this is how ridiculous management conducted themselves, then maybe that explains why the theater was lacking in its services and cleanliness.

EDIT: I have adjusted my rating to 3 stars. The AMC corporate customer care has done their best to rectify the situation and apparently will be working to address the exact specific issues I experienced. As a result of the 5-star response, I am adjusting my rating to a 3. I will update ONE more time after ONE more visit in the future and will see if this location has improved. .......... I have visited this location for 18 years, and I have been a regular and loyal AMC customer since the mid 1990s. And I just had my last visit. One of the recliners we reserved was BROKEN and at a crooked angle with the foot extension partially protruding; my spouse found it more comfortable to stand in the back of the theater (and to make it worse, this was during a viewing of Oppenheimer). There was filth everywhere, including in front of the drink machines (a massive puddle of syrup). Bathrooms also had puddles of much worse substances. People were sneaking in and looking at their phones to find empty "free" seats, and NOTHING was done after we complained about this. And to make things worse, there were kids standing around "working" and just chatting at the front of the theater instead of lifting a finger to address any of these issues. I guess they have just written off this theater and will let it crash and burn at the cheapest operating costs possible until enough people have a HORRIBLE experience like I did and never return. This has not only damaged my view of this theater, but AMC in general. So long AMC.

We went to a 7 pm showing of Oppenheimer in IMAX last night. The theater was completely filthy. The floors were littered with popcorn as far as the eye could see, in every direction. The food area was disheveled and probably wouldn't pass a safety inspection. The drink section was awful. There was no so spare counter space to put on a lid or a straw, it was covered with syrup, straws and lids. The theater we were in was also very dirty. It felt uncomfortable to sit there during a long movie. The trash was piled up over a foot high outside of the cans. The floor was sticky everywhere. I actually feel really badly for the staff. Most of them were doing their best and trying. There were two gentlemen trying to clean the halls. They made progress because the trash and other areas were addressed by the time we came out. As a manager, I would be humiliated if my establishment looked this way. There was one girl sitting behind the ticket counter who was not helping anyone. While everyone else was trying to work and assist customers, she was staring angrily off into space. She could have been helping her team clean. I watched her for ten minutes while we were waiting in line to buy a drink. She never moved or did anything during that time. A very disappointing movie experience.

We came to this AMC to see Elemental with our family of 7. We spent $100 on tickets and another $100 on concessions for everyone. When we walked into the theater a wave of heat came out. It was easily 90 degrees inside. Many other families were complaining. We (and other families) asked to speak to the manager about what could be done. He was extremely rude and claimed to have fixed the problem but absolutely nothing changed through the 30minutes of previews. We decided we were too uncomfortable to sit in the 90 degree theater, especially since it was 100 outside and part of the reason we went to a movie was cause it was so hot out. We asked the manager for a refund and he started to get me cash for the tickets but refused to give me the convenience fee amount. When I said that was ridiculous, he said we were “being rude” and refused to pay me anything! We also asked for a refund or vouchers or something for the $100 of concessions that we would not have bought otherwise and he refused. He told us to “just leave” and did not refund us anything. I submitted a complaint through AMCs website and they did absolutely nothing to make things right. They didn’t even respond to me. So, I guess last thing to do is leave a terrible review. We will never use AMC theaters again.

Dear AMC theater operator: Your Barton Creek theater is like a ship at sea with no captain at the helm. Enter the restrooms at your own peril. It desperately needs an on-site cleaning crew with brooms in hand, which stays there all day during working hours. Yes, that will impact your corporate profits I paid $17 for my movie ticket & I am rewarded with a trash-filled experience and relentless, unconscionably loud & annoying commercials and clips of a bubbly talk show host asking some poor actor what sport was featured in the movie "Sea Biscuit." 78704 needs this theater to up its game drastically. The theater is clearly understaffed, no one is there to make sure that restrooms are cleaned, popcorn is swept up, answer the phones to help people when AMC app didnt send me my tix. The employees i interacted with (including manager Jaime) were kind & helpful. You will feel like you need to take a long shower after sitting in the seats and visiting the restroom which had no towels, overflowing waste baskets, and used toilet paper all over the place. Even the ticket kiosks dispensing paper tickets were out of paper. The theaters were uncomfortably cold, bring your gloves& hat.

The IMAX theater smelled like urine and whatever was used to try to mask it. We arrived 15 minutes early and decided to get up and come back to avoid the very off-putting smell. The sound was extremely loud, and many people, including myself, needed to cover our ears at times. When seeing Oppenheimer they left the theater lights at full brightness. About 5 minutes into the movie my buddy went to speak to the staff to point this out. They did not offer to comp his ticket as a thank you for alerting them, and as apology for missing many crucial minutes of the movie. The girl checking tickets was extremely rude, projecting unhappiness, and unprofessional. After the movie she did not want to let us back in to use the restroom. However, the guy selling tickets was extremely nice. AMC could do better in informing patrons about how long previews will run. A thee hour movie + minute preview is a long time for many people.

I wish I had read the recent reviews before driving the extra distance to watch an IMAX film here. Simply put, this theater is disgusting. My show was at 9pm, so not at the end of the night, and I was shocked at the state of the lobby. Popcorn on the floor everywhere, stained carpet, bathroom that wreaked of urine. Every trashcan was overflowing. And yet there were groups of employees walking the hallways together laughing and enjoying their evening. The theater itself was fairly clean, but not up to the standards established by the industry. The theater is located inside of a dying mall, which has its own safety concerns. The movie was great, the projection and sound was fantastic, but I have to think that's because of IMAX's strict regulations than any effort put forth by the management here. Overall, hard pass. I wouldn't come here again if I was living next door.

This was my first visit to this theatre since 2019, and unfortunately, I must highlight several concerns regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility. The overall condition was unsatisfactory, with pervasive filth and an abundance of food and trash strewn throughout the premises. Regrettably, the women's restroom lacked essential amenities such as toilet paper and paper towels. During our visit, we witnessed a disconcerting incident behind the concessions area. An employee slipped and nearly fell on the conspicuously dirty floor while we were in the process of ordering snacks. While it is true that the majority of the employees appeared to be of high school age, it is worth noting that many of my friends from high school also worked at this theatre in the early 2000s, and the establishment was consistently clean and well-managed at that time.

  • Danny Romero

Update: It's been remodeled and everything is much nicer and ticket sales happen faster too. It's a good cinema, nothing too great but nothing bad either. Now has leather reclining seats with less capacity but more space per person. If you want to see iMax then I reccomended the Bullock Theater over this since this one is quite small in comparison. 2014 Review: This is your average good AMC Theater. It only shows blockbusters which could be a plus or minus for some. I visit this theater whenever Alamo Drafthouse doesn't have the movie I want to see. The food is okay but the popcorn is good. Sometimes there can be kids that are crying or just being annoying throughout the movie and might disturb so thats something you should go in prepared for (depending on the movie your are watching).

  • Rain Rivas

Movie gets 5 Stars NOT the theater. Sorry but I couldn't stomach to eat anything from concession, dirty counters, floors. Employees all standing around instead of taking a broom, gathering all the leftovers? Too many chiefs & few indians, chiefs don't want to show initiative to clean? Like it's beneath them, well that's a huge problem with older folks like me! Take responsibility for the theater/position you have & try to make it a pleasant experience for folks paying $ to come into your old run down establishment. I could enjoy the movie on an old beat up chair, it's the trash & uncleanliness that grosses us out. Do better, it's a darn shame you're located at a mall with huge revenue and yet your place is disgusting, please have some kind of pride! It's embarrassing .

I am not sure why the health and human services department has not closed this theater yet. I can't believe that it has four star reviews. This theater is a center for diseases. It is disgusting and dirty. The smell is terrible all the time. The food needs to be evaluated here. The popcorn is terribly soggy, salty, and oily. I can't believe how people can eat it. The bathrooms are unbelievably dirty and disgusting. I went to this theater to see a movie with my family. As soon as we walked in, we were hit with a strong smell of garbage. The floors were sticky, and the seats were covered in dirt and popcorn. The popcorn was so soggy and extremely salty and greasy. I would not recommend this theater to anyone. It is a complete waste of time and money.

  • Mallory Brandt

I would love to rate this higher. However, I had chosen this theater due to the comfortable seating they offered. It took a lot of time researching the right theater for us based on comfort, but when we got to our seats, we noticed the recline wasn’t working. I looked to see if it was unplugged and it was, so I plugged it back in hoping that was the issue! Unfortunately it was not, the plug into the actual chair was damaged and instead of replacing the cord, it just was laid behind the chairs. It is a small complaint overall, we were still able to enjoy the movie, but we would have chosen another theater had we known we couldn’t use the seat functionality during the 2.5 hours since that was a top priority.

  • Kyle Gugel

I see a lot of reviews about the theater being dirty, but it wasn't very dirty like others describe. But I was also there for the first showing of the day. The real issue for me is the terrible seats in the IMAX theater. Incredibly uncomfortable seats that are narrow without decent armrests (which you must share with the person next to you) and no recliner. Our seats were also wobbly and felt like they could break at any moment. I came here because I wanted to see Oppenheimer in IMAX, but it wasn't worth it at all. Within the first hour it was so incredibly uncomfortable to sit there. I'm giving it 2 stars just because the sound and picture were great, and the popcorn was pretty good.

  • teresa trejo

Wow. Absolutely DISGUSTING. I went to a 12:30 showing on a Sunday in this theater was beyond filthy. Popcorn up and down the entirety both hallways sides leading to the theater rooms. The soda machine area was a disaster with overflowing ice, dirty counters, and missing lids and napkins. The bathrooms were horrible and not cleaned before or after our movie ended (my friend went before the movie and I went after). Every stall had pee/water on the ground. The trash bins inside the bathroom and in the hallways were so full. Oh, and when I got to my seat there was trash in my cup holder. I will NOT be going back. This place looked like it hadn't been cleaned all weekend.

  • Debbie Hawkins

Don’t waste your time in having anything delivered to your seats. I had to go check on our order twice after the movie started only to hear the staff gave the worn out excuse about being understaffed. Then don’t offer the service if you can’t handle the deliveries. The icing on the cake was when they delivered our soda and popcorn in what looked like a waste basket trash bag and told us they actually didn’t have iced tea as advertised on their website. So ended up having to stand in line anyway - after the movie started. Bad movie experience and won’t be back to this theater.

  • Bob Waxler

when I got there the ticket machine was broken, do I went to customer service and solved that. I am deaf and need closed captioning .the device that they gave me was falling apart and I had to hold it thru the movie. The rediculously priced snacks (popcorn and a soda... $18.00)were ok after I tried 3 soda machines before I got one that had ice. In the theater they had the lights on so bright that they made seeing the stuff at thy he beginning impossible. Needless to say it was not a positive experience.

  • Rachel Phillips

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews. Used to go here all the time as a teen, chose it for Across the Spider-Verse because it was the most convenient time. Seats were comfy, the small amount of interaction I had with employees was pleasant, no popcorn on the seats and everything looked about as clean as you can expect for a movie theater in a mall. Heck, even the child next to me was being polite. Maybe I just came on a good day, or maybe folks should cut the employees here some slack.

  • John Pham

The Dolby Cinema had no sound..no communication from staff or anyone on if it was being fixed or not. Just sitting here silently watching trailers fly by with no subs either. Disappointing experience and customer service. Update: After asking guest services about this they came and gave everyone vouchers for the inconvenience, refunded people, and then rebooked them for other shows. So I’m updating the review for the positive follow up! Just wish it was a little more proactive.

  • Lauren McGuire

Unless you pay more for the A List membership, I'd recommend ordering concessions ahead of time. A List members apparently always get priority over the standard line. Stood at the front of the line for over 20 mins while we watched A List members continue to walk through. Apparently they are not allowed to alternate either. Most of the recliners don't work so I'm not sure what I'm paying more for. Refunds are not allowed either. Should have just gone to a different location.

  • Greg Blackman

You can complain about high ticket prices or concessions, but we all know that's just part of going to the movies. I will, however, complain about the terrible seats in the iMax theater. They're cramped and tight. They remind of the seats at the discount theater that used to be in Round Rock. I would expect that when I pay $2 for a ticket, but not when I'm $18 plus multiplied by 4. The Movie was great, the popcorn was buttery but the seats were horrible.

  • Jeff Merritt

Movies are pretty pricey these days so got the 8.50 matinee the new Indy Jones. Theater could not have been nicer and cleaner. Full leather seats with power reclining back and leg rest with large wide arm rests. The best thing was the sound system and WOW the sound was crystal clear and powerful. Love that!! Sound is soo important to suck you into a movie and this theater has it in spades. I think i was in theater 7. Didn't get any food or drinks.

  • Katie Linford

This is the filthiest stickiest movie theater I've ever been in. The cup holder in the theater was full of old soda, one of the seats recliner was broken. The bathroom smelled horrible and had pee on the floor and was out of soap. The employees were playing on their phones while there was trash and spills all over the concessions area. Just the absolute worst. They also ran out of drink lids after charging me $9 for a drink. Absolutely horrible.

  • Patricia Cruz

We went today for The marvels movie at 10 am. . I appreciate the effort to create a sensory-friendly environment; the lighting was good. However, the movie volume was too high for my daughter with autism. We were informed that the ads had a fixed volume, but when the movie started, the volume remained high. While it may have been adjusted, I suggest lowering it further for a more comfortable experience for our special needs population.

  • Luke Allen

I was SHOCKED to see how filthy this theater was tonight. It looked like it hasn’t been touched in days. Popcorn was all over the floors of the hallway. My feet instantly stuck to the floor. I understand short staffing but there is several contracted cleaning companies you could hire. Just a thought… Anyway going to try to enjoy the movie. I knew the second I sat down I needed to send this in so someone will see the feedback.

  • Jonathan Bane

Wish I could leave less stars. From the sticky floors, broken soda machines, urine smell in the “IMAX” theater, disgusting bathrooms, food all over the floors in the theaters, and employees who could give two flips about any of it, I’d say AMC knocked it outta the park. Wish I could post the photos of the theaters floors but it was too dark. PS be prepared for 20 min of trailers and AMC commercials (Nicole Kidman included)

  • Gladys Chandler

Very good. Got 30% discount on movie. Unfortunately yesterday only 1 employee in the whole theater. Film Dreamin Wild start time scheduled for 10:15 #10, didn't start had to walk out to tell employee at concessions issue. Finally started at 10:28, then the lights were still on another walk to concessions to tell them to shut off. Then I went back to tell the manager the issue doesn't know customer service too young!

  • Paul Macdonald

Went on a Tuesday. Staff was standing around doing nothing as was manager. Floor was incredibly sticky and the place was a mess. Most of the drinks in the drink machine were unavailable. The people at the counter did not know how to work the register. Bathrooms were dirty and smelled badly. Place was not busy but staff just stood around doing nothing while popcorn littered the floor. This place needs a new manager.

  • Tim Golden

Saw Flash in their IMAX (theater 1), screen and sound were great but the seats were HORRIBLE. The one I was in leaned slightly forward and I had to constantly shift positions and by the time the movie was over my knees and butt were hurting like crazy. Will NOT go back because there are way too many places with good seats to deal with these - not worth the larger screen.

  • Brandon

Been going to this theater for the last 8 or so years. It used to be kept in such good condition up until the last couple years it seems. Has funky smells throughout, no very cleanly all over- hallways, theater itself, and around the food concession area. Bathrooms especially. Staff are friendly though! And theater quality as far as sound, picture and seating are great.

  • Benjamin Cordero

The quality of the viewing experience was great but the quality of the theater itself was what led to the low review. Two soda machines were broken. There was butter all over the self serve station. And the bathrooms were the worst part. If they cleaned it up, I'd rate it higher but I left knowing I wouldn't return because of the cleanliness.

  • Brook Bender

the place is disgusting unclean, It is not clean at all. There was no cleaning done in theater 8, the debris from the weeks movie goes is all over the floor. The beverage station is sticky littered with syrup, there is no attention to the concession station. i would steer clear of this theater if you like a clean environment for a movie.

  • Blake Burton

The theater and seats were fine overall, but the lobby and bathrooms were DISGUSTING. The floors were so sticky that the mats came off the ground with my shoes. The bathrooms had (hopefully water) all over the ground. Made me worried about the cleanliness of the theaters aswell. Very gross, no way the floors are cleaned daily

  • Cheyla Price

The bathrooms were virtually unusable. Zero toilet paper, soap, anything. Water, or worse, covered the floor along with trash. Everything about this theater was absolutely disgusting in terms of cleanliness. When you are paying for a luxury theater, you shouldn’t feel as though you need a shower after.

  • Deborah Pfluger

We could not believe the condition of the theater when we arrived. The lobby and hallways were filthy. The floor and carpets soaking wet with soda making it a sticky gooey mess. Popcorn all over the floor, carpets were filthy. The movie was fine but we will find a different theater next time.

  • Jack Ferguson

Horrible theatre. There's better options in Austin, use those. We showed up on time to our movie but ended up being 15 minutes late because we had to wait one at a time in line to have our tickets checked. On top of that the theatre was dirty and the concessions were bare minimum.

  • Mark D

Typical movie theater experience. There were a TON of trailers. Movie was advertised as starting at 11. It started at 1120ish, which is also when my 11am food-to-your-seat delivery arrived. Wasn't crowded. Wasn't particularly clean either. Sound was fine. Image quality was fine.

  • Susan Willi

Probably the filthiest theatre I have ever experienced. The floors were sticky and littered with trash. The bathrooms had water over flowing from the toilets. The seats were very uncomfortable and dirty. With so many other great movie theaters in the area, I won't go back here.

  • red wertens

This location is in serious need of some TLC. The floors around the soda machines was sticky. The carpet throughout is faded and worn. The seat bottoms were worn down enough that you would slide out of your seat. The only good thing about my experience was the movie I watched.

  • Juliette I. Franqueville

Recent reviews are accurate: the theatre is shockingly dirty, especially the lobby and bathrooms. The floors are extremely sticky. On top of that, the sound volume was too high for us in the Dolby theater. Won’t come back. Only positive was the movie itself.

  • Catherine Vance

This place is disgusting! It has trash everywhere. Every surface is sticky. They tell you no outside food or drink yet your options are stale popcorn and one left in stock candy. All other food is unavailable. I will never be going to the movies here again.

  • swaroop krothapalli

This place is one of the few places with an IMAX and Dolby systems. It is an excellent mall, to shop around with lots of options. On the flip slide it is very unclean, no recliners and screens are small. I hope they update their seating with recliners.

  • Chris Wooster

Really needs a refresh. IMAX smelled like a potpurri of locker room, Glade, and two week old queso. No wonder AMC is struggling mightily with experiences like this; Nicole Kidman’s sales pitch upfront overselling the reality that the place needs WORK..

  • Roy Wung

Such a gross theater. None of the surfaces have been wiped in years. The concession stand doesn’t serve anything on the menu other than popcorn (though I don’t trust any of the food here). I feel bad for the workers cause they’re clearly understaffed.

  • Ira Halperin

Multiple screens, easy to navigate and get tickets, lots of concession items, clean, seats recline. Friendly staff. Prices on concession were high however value combos available. Tickets were high but have lots of different types of screens/formats.

  • Manuel “Manni” DeBernardi

One of my favorite movie theaters in Austin! Could definitely use a little bit of updating, but I still enjoy my visit each time. If you’re a movie goer like me, then I highly encourage you to get their AMC Stubbs membership. So many benefits!!

  • Lindsey Eidson

The imax theater seats are so uncomfortable and small. Feels like you are sitting on an airplane & praying that no one is going to take the seat next to you. All their coke fountains were broken, but one. Common area & lobby lacked cleanliness.

  • Josie Cooper

I very seldom have experienced truly outstanding customer service and phone service in life especially in this day in age of automation, however this is by far my best experience I have ever had in my 23 years of life. I have a very tedious

  • Dayna W. Thomas, Esq.

Horrible experience. After waiting for the screen to come on for 15 minutes, we were informed that they forgot to turn on the projector. What?! So we had to wait another 20 minutes for it to start. Bathrooms a mess, even though we arrived

  • Joe Kloesel

As we walked in, it took 3 teenagers, "helping" guests read a number off the ticket. Our theater was #6, but he told us #9. He couldn't even take the time to do the one job he was supposed to do correctly. Then, the guy behind the counter

  • Jennifer Banda

Horrible experience at this movie theater it was probably this dirtiest theater I have ever been to in Austin i was thinking it would be great experience because it's in the mall but NO the young man that served us popcorn was rude no hi

The service was wonderful. Full stop the staff did a good job. My issue was the only seat remaining for the film I wanted to see were front row in theater 12. This in itself is my fault and not worth complaining about, but the front row

  • Robert Jansen

Other posts prove I would not want to eat here. Fortunately, there is a food court in the mall. The seats we chose were broken and not reclining. In general, the Stubs pass can't be beaten, and usually, the seats are very comfortable.

  • Alison Williams

This place is NASTY bathrooms included. Rude employees. I asked a simple question and got scoffed at. I will never come here again. Go to any other movie theater but this one. This pile of trash is from before the movie ever started.

  • Caleb Robertson

It’s a pretty dirty theatre but my biggest complaint is the seating for the IMAX in theatre 1. They have old dusty seats instead of nice new seats. I would expect the seating to be premium with IMAX.. guess not.

  • Gregory Miles

The place is run down. Both of the seats we selected were broken (as were several others in the theater we were in). Does anyone clean this place? The floors and bathrooms are disgusting. The staff was polite.

  • Hailey Faircloth

They don’t offer refunds even if you accidentally selected the wrong date through their website. It’s terrible to treat your customers this way and take their money for a simple mistake. I will not be back.

  • Bob Hitson

I always have a great time going to the movies here. The projection and sound systems are great. The facilities are clean and neat, and the stubs app makes it very simple to purchase tickets or food!

  • Amber Nuchols

The seating needs to be updated for IMAX. It smells like straight pee and It’s like you’re on airplane instead of enjoying a movie. Not worth it in my opinion. I feel bad for the kids working there

  • Zach Smith

We tried ordering from the cinema bar and we waited in line 20 minutes. And had to leave empty handed because people held up the line. Additionally, drinks were poorly mixed in first visit.

  • B Lipka

Nice place to watch a movie. I experienced the IMAX and the reclining chairs. For the most part it was clean, but the recliners sides and cup holders held debris. The staff were nice.

  • Sherri Parker

Movie was awesome, it was 3d the person scanning tickets failed to mention how to get 3d glasses, which was annoying. Also several of our seat did not recline.

  • Ben Rodrigue

Full disclosure, I previously worked at this location several years ago. My showtime was canceled due to a power outage which is understandably not their

  • Stacey Gardner

This theatre is horrendously filthy. I don’t think the lobby has been cleaned in year. It smells. It is sticky. It is absolutely disgusting.

  • Robert Browning

Floor is filthy, theater smelled like mold and cheap air freshener, and seats were from the 90s in their imax theater. Won't go again!

  • A C

It’s a nice theater! Comfortable moving chairs. A bit cold as all of them. The only lose it to Alamo because the other has waiters.

  • Bettie Simpson-Weeks

Old style seating with minimal leg room between seats and sound was way too loud. Probably will stick with Alamo or Westgate.

  • Radhika Venkatasubramanian

IMAX theatres do not have recliners which is strange. Otherwise, great theater at a convenient location.

  • Sai Charan Rachamadugu

Non IMAX theaters have pretty bad sound quality and we got chairs whose recliner function did not work
