absolutely love this shop. the fruit and veg is cheap but fresh, same for the meat in the butchers section. if you want Asian food of any kind this is the place to visit, and it's all authentic.....no pataks rubbish. the shop always has amazing offers on short dated junk food and the deli counter serves some of the best tasting freshly prepared meals i've ever tasted. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the owner is often in the shop and greets all the customers with a warm and friendly hello. He will also go out of his way to find stock for you if asked (in my case powdered henna, i asked about it in store, they apologised as they didn't sell what i needed. a week later i popped in and the owner excitedly told me he had sourced my henna). the shop is clean and well stocked, luckily for me this shop is right on my doorstep, but in all honesty i would be happy to travel to visit. As is expected of an Asian they don't sell alcohol, but sell tobacco and related items. My only bugbear is that they're limited on coffee choices and don't sell pet food, being able to pop in and buy the odd tin of cat food for the moggy while i enjoy a nice curry would make it the perfect shop.

Poor treatment This place has no respect for customers …!!! I used to shop for 5 years from this place , I would like to share my experience for you , I stopped shopping from this place since now on . staff in this shop doesn’t respect your right and They’re not trained well, I have face with this problem meany times during this period of time. I was about to by some lamb meat as usual I was standing in queue to be served, suddenly one of the staff has served someone else instead of me and I was offended by that . I have reported this problem to the supervisor of the shop and he told me that my staff is right and he ignored it . That is really embarrassing to see this kind of customer treatment.

Absolutely disgusting have reported to Leeds City Council. The ready to eat food section is not fit for human consumption. The samosas and bajis are stale and about a week old. The rice stinks and is clearly several days old. Nothing is cooled or covered. Cooked rice and chicken dishes are on sale on a counter top, not refrigerated or covered. DO NOT RISK THIS FOOD. I have reported problems to the owner OVER 1 YEAR AGO and nothing has changed. I'm making a full report to Leeds City Council. I would not dream of buying fresh meat or veg from this company. They have no respect or knowledge of basic hygiene practises. Over the last 10 years this shop has progressively got worse.

I have been twice in the last 2 weeks. Each time i have been charged more than my shopping should. One time meat shopping has been charged twice. Another, the price charged almost double of that displayed on the shelf. Eg apple. This is ridiculous and not trustworthy. My friend who had the same experience before told me he calculates the prices as he shops in Abubakr. Unfortunately if the you don't have other options, this is what you're ending doing. I would offer even less than one star if available. There must be more options around

Best place to buy Arab and Indian stuff. Busy Asian supermarket in the heart of the main student area. In addition to an excellent selection of ingredients it has a well stocked deli / takeaway counter that does nice food for a good price. Always check your bill twice before leaving. Abu Bakr offers retail and wholesale halal products including poultry, fish, ethnic foods, fresh fruits and vegetables. They also run the Abu2Go hot food delivery service, with dishes including starters, main coursed and sweets.

Went for a look around. What a fantastic supermarket. Top quality fruit and veg. Very well presented and clean meat counter. Cakes are amazing as are the curries. Manager asked us to look upstairs.what a treasure trove of everyday items. Shisha pipes to pots and pans. Staff are very friendly. Only one negative and that was lack of description on curries at the counter and description of cakes (what's in them) but that is easily rectified. Bought quite a few items and will most certainly be back.

This is the best independent food store in Leeds. The fruit and veg is excellent quality and at a very reasonable price. A massive range of food items from all over middle east and africa. The deli counter is outstanding. You can see the food being cooked. If you want to know how much I recommend this shop..... I travel from Northumberland to visit the shop every six weeks and always get a great shop in along with a couple of freshly cooked curries for dinner when we get home.

Love this place, on my first visit all staff were really friendly, the guy behind the counter was really helpful in our choice of food, we got a free salad and the potato salad is beyond delicious! All the food we purchased from the deli counter (£80 worth) was just superb, its quickly become a go to place for the deli counters! I have also bought plenty off the shelves too and not been disappointed with anything, everything fairly priced! Great additional to Kirkstall area.

A fantastic gem of an international supermarket. Putting aside the amazing array of food stuffs from around the world, if you happen to have a dietary requirement such as being coeliac, wanting to avoid gluten, egg, etc.. there are a surprising array of staple alternatives available here for the much better than high street prices. If you're looking for affordable, good quality food staples or an unusual array of fresh fruit and veg, this is a great store for everyone.

  • huma latif

Don’t even give 1 star, very bad store, can’t maintain quality of food. And counter staff is not properly trained, I had 1st experience bad at counter and ignored it but next time I ordered naan and when opened at home, all were smelly and bad. Went to complaint it to manager but he didn’t showed up even after waiting 10 mins. Although they gave me new fresh naan but I will never come back to this store again and will not recommend to it anyone as well.

  • Kulwant Suman

Great place to shop, but due to covid-19 and health issues I have been unable to shop here. Then I discovered they do online and delivery, which has been fantastic. The foods always fresh, wide range of foods from fruit - veg- meats- ready made foods and many more. And the staff are the most helpful, polite and understanding it's unbelievable. If they don't have what you ordered they will contact you. We need more shops and staff like this. Many thanks

  • Sam Scott

Was a regular customer and now I will never use again. Too many violations of the food standards laws. All fruit and vegetables are next to a sign which is “sold as seen”. If I buy a watermelon I can not see inside it so if it is rotten in the middle I cannot return it. I tried to return it and was met with no apology. An absolute disgrace and they do not respond to reviews with any responsibility or reply to the email I wrote to them.

  • Yahya Birt

This non-chain supermarket has an amazing selection of world cuisines and specialist ingredients. Vital for stocking up on rare or difficult to find ingredients. There's a decent selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, halal meat and also a large and varied takeaway section with Indian, Arab, Turkish savories and sweets on offer. Really quite a unique place that is essential for several communities in Leeds.

  • Nailah Donlan

Absolutley disgusting!! If i could leave NO stars i would!! Basically for meat veg fruit ect its standard! Now we got a curry cuz they looked soo nice but OMFDZ it was terrible got the chicken tikka which was VERY RED FROM FOOD COLOURING!! Lots of it no flavour whats so ever except GINGER I MEAN STRANDS OF RAW GINGER THATS ALL IT WAS RED CHICKEN IN RAW STRANDS OF GINGER!!! Never again!!!

  • Sab Man

Good selection of Middle Eastern n halal items but pricey Unfortunately Beef meat is surely not beef.. Doesn't smell or taste like beef. Meat for stew is full of bones, very hard to cook Slimy chicken not sure it's trustable source... Halal doesn't have to mean cheap options at an expensive price, some organic or other choice would help halal meat customers Thanks

  • kasi rasul

Good stuff. Pretty much get anything in terms of food for the prices, and all is halal to suit my needs so if you're a student and looking for a halal food store then abu bakr's will be for you, or if you're any student looking for decently priced goods. I don't buy my meat from here as I was put off after seeing the butcher wipe his nose

  • Sulaimath Subair

I often shop from Abubakar as I could get Asian ingredients but now a couple of times I notice how the staff behave. I'm sorry to say this, but they just added the bill I paid the money and she left the till saying nothing as if she doesn’t care if I take it or not. It was really good customer service before but recently not the same.

  • Bev zielinski

This is the 2nd time I've been stopped at the entrance and told to leave my trolley at the door by a member off staff..the staff need training on people with disabilities..instead off coming straight to you and telling you to leave the trolley near the door..been trying to contact through messenger for last 3 days and nobody replied

  • May Sal

We did an Abu Bakr delivery for the first time, I'm so glad they're starting to deliver my family have been visiting Abu bakr more than 15 years! They were very helpful and efficient, there were certain items which weren't on the website but they added it to the list with no issues I highly recommend Abu Bakr delivery. …

  • The Tomboy

Good - Big shop and has most things I needed. Bad - The shop assistants constantly ask you things when you stop by any aisle. I was asked what I was looking for at-least by three people within the 2 minutes of me entering the shop. I like to look at the shop as well just to know what they sell there, but I couldn’t do that there.

  • Zahir Akhtar

Stopped by to pick up a few things have a great variety from halaal meat to cooked food to go. Very nice and clean store. Was disappointed could not find plastic bags to put fruit and vegetables in when I asked a member of staff he told me to look around there is a roll there somewhere. Would shop there again without hesitation.

  • Ed Clark-Steel

A great store, bigger on the inside than the outside and shelves full of a large selection of goods, both dried and fresh. Some areas felt a little covered in dust, but think that is down to the way the goods are shipped to the store. A good alternative to the Chinese supermarket I usually go to to get my Asian essentials.

  • Bev Charters

Went there for the first time yesterday having recently moved to Leeds. An incredible range of spices and other raw ingredients required to make a curry from scratch. Almost too much to choose from. Also a huge range of teas and frozen parathas. I'll be making visits on a very regular basis. Thank you Abu Bakr.

  • Alfie Noakes

Fantastic place for just about every sort of spice you could ever need, all types of rice, from baked beans to blackeye beans, fresh produce, meats and treats can all be found here plus lots more. A true chef/cooks treasure store that will fill any pantry or fridge with the essential foods and spices of life.

  • Hugo Watters

Fantastic range of all things near and far at great prices. The fresh deli counter has superb in house curries ready to take away. The whole place is clean and bright with good staff. Well worth a trip to stock up on all things Asian. Parking usually available close by. Expect a bit of a wait at checkout.

  • Masoud Dehghani

A great continental supermarket with products from around the world. You can find Arabic, Indian, Pakistani, Persian and other cultures stuff in this supermarket. Halal meat is always available and it is always fresh. The deli section has many of the gorgeous Indian/Pakistani food ready to take out.

  • Arun Devassy

Today we go in abu bakr in queens road... We bought 2 samosa from there... One chicken and one meat... There is only some potatoes are stuffed inside the samosa.. There is no one piece of meat.... Dont go and buy any items like this from there... At least keep the quality for our giving money

  • Arun Kumar Majumdar

I went there quite sometimes now, found it interesting with large ragne of Asian/Indian stuffs. meat store is good and friendly. good collection of spices. a good place for monthly grocery store as when you buy in volume, it'll be less painful to your pockets. staffs are very friendly.

  • UK me

I do not want to mention other shop names. I regret that I did not visit this store except today. It is very clean and fresh smell, never like some shops. Staff, managers and owner (I think I met him) are very attentive, friendly and professionally. Thank you and keep the good stuff.

  • Vivek

Just after entering the shop you get to see many deals on Soft drinks, Chocolates. They offer varieties of Indian & Arabian Sweets and got a good collection of veg and meat curries. Fresh vegetables & fruits are available. Also a good shop to grab meat.Staffs are very helpful.

  • Andrew Bird

This without a doubt is one of the best and friendliest shoping experiences I have ever had and I have travelled a fair bit . The staff couldn't do enough to help . If you're new to Leeds or a student international or otherwise I highly recommend this supermarket.

  • Muhaddin Messbah

Except for the lamb biriyani (tastes may vary from person to person) I have found everything amazing here. They helped me get through the quarantine shopping easily and finally I could taste some spicy deshi food which I was missing in France. Highly recommended.

  • Sheryl Yu

Good location with good selection. The supermarket is big and they have various stuff with good price! They also serve tasty foods and they are actually pretty cheap. It is convenient if you live around and it is a very good option for shopping grocery stuff!!

Great for all manner of foods. Fresh curries, samosas, sweets plus fresh produce and spices/herbs galore. Only spoilt today for me as I went for dates and the display was obstructed by the stack of stuff on special offer so not able to find the dates I wanted

  • Max Holmes

One of the best shops in Leeds. Great variety of foods from all over the world. Fruit and vegetable section is brilliant. Halal butchers at the back of the shop is really good for meat you can’t buy in the supermarket such as mutton. Highly recommend!

I am a regular customer at Abu Bakr. This place was so good that I recommended this place to my friends but after today's behaviour I definitely wouldn't do so. Reason being, the manager named Jalal was rude to me when I wanted help from

  • Gerard Murphy

The staff are always helpful and polite towards me. I buy the curry making ingredients from here which you can't usually get hold of in the mainstream supermarkets. Their naan breads are particularly delicious too. I love this place!

The workers are always helpful. Get my halal meat from here regularly. Unfortunately yesterday my skin-on baby chickens got swapped with the fillets while it put on the bag. Next time I'll double check so it won't be happened.
