I have thought long and hard about writing a negative review about St. Joseph Hospital because the nursing staff is exemplary as are the phlebotomists, NCTs, imaging technicians, unfortunately this is where the good ends. My orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Scott Ackerman, treated me with indifference to my input. Lest you think I am a know-it-all, I am the recipient of four, now five joint replacement surgeries both hips, both knees(a re-do on the first knee)I believe that makes me a patient emeritus. I know exactly which medications are successful for me and which are not, I know this through trial and error, long conversations with my physiatrist(pain specialist M.D), and extensive reading. I am diligent in participating in not only my recovery but the shape I am in preoperatively. I discussed my preferred anesthesiologist(ignored by Ackerman), as she was my doctor through the two previous surgeries and believe me when I tell you that not all anesthesiologists are the alike, in fact if your anesthesiologist will not allow you to ask questions or request the cocktail of drugs required for surgery, carefully explain why one drug is preferred over another makes for a scary situation, which I had. Post-surgically I was in tremendous pain due to a .2mg. dose of dilaudid, 1.0mg. is the industry standard. When pain is not controlled, you cannot heal as well, be as successful at physical therapy, which is essential to a successful outcome. Ackerman displayed what can only be called arrogance, his response was casual in fact cavalier regarding my intense pain. I told him what drug and amount had best tamped down my pain level based on my four previous surgeries. I was in such bad shape due to pain that it prevented me from sleeping more than two hours in a row. You cannot heal if you cannot sleep and I could not sleep due to the pain, which was a fifty on the all-to-familiar 1-10 pain chart. Even in this day and age, the one where the media outlets have labelled all opioid use as being in league with the devil. Not even the newspapers, television reporters et al take issue with painkillers post-surgically. If any of you have had joint replacement surgery then you know exactly what I am talking about. It took my nurse, Bridget, to plead my case and get me on the medicine I needed and even then it was done grudgingly by the attending physician. Additionally there were other complications. One was the swelling on my legs which had always been controlled in prior surgeries by wearing compression stockings, which makes ALL the difference in the world and goes the distance for pain management. When I came to my senses I ordered my own heavy duty(standard medically appropriate)compression stockings from Amazon and the overnight shipping charges which by the way was on my dime. Tights such as these have always been the standard gear from every hospital for post-surgical joint replacement. But not anymore as these are expensive and the new company, Amita 'Health', is on an obvious mission to trim the budget fat in any way they can. As the months have elapsed I now have severe pain in my foot of the operated leg, mobility and articulation in my foot is so severely compromised that I cannot do simple point and flex exercises, again Ackerman ignored the fact that I have a ruptured tendon on my right foot, due to ballet pointe work. When I showed him my foot he referred to it as a 'flat-foot' which it is not and I thought he understood that...apparently not. 12/12/20 As it turns out upon consulting two other prominent orthopaedic surgeons that the prosthesis is not stable and no doubt has caused me so much angst and pain. I do not know who will do my revision as this is now not a simple straightforward bread and butter surgery. My life's work, passion, and dedication to my career of teaching a ballet technique exercise came to a screeching halt. And that most of all has broken my heart.

On May 5, 2022, at approximately 6 am, I checked into St. Joseph’s hospital to do a fibroid removal. I didn’t eat 24 hours before to eliminate any surgical complications. After the surgery, I slept another several hour leading me closer to midnight. Fortunately, my surgery was successful because my doctor was. Dr. Williams who is a well-established and highly recommended gynecologist. After my surgery, I was placed in my room. I was still knocked out, however, after awakening at 11 pm, I got my first meal for that day which I couldn’t eat because I didn’t have much appetite. After waking I noticed a nurse who was black standing at my bed. She came to my room about two times because she was scheduled to do as such. There were no occasional visits although during surgery I was told that I had a higher blood pressure than the norm. During her visits she was kind. She didn’t talk much but she asked what I needed. I thought these positive interactions were going to continue into the next day. However, after 5 am she got off her shift everything changed. The first thing I noticed during the day is that no one checked on me. However, at noon I requested immediate assistance to no avail. It was a white hospital and I noticed in my environment they had one black nurse. After the removal of my urinary bag, I wanted help several times and I was ignored. I started crying because they had removed the catheter from my vagina and I called for help but waited for several minutes holding my pee which gave me a burning and uncomfortable experience. After 30 mins and pressing the nurse assistance buzzer 6 times, one person came and said what do you want and I replied some help, please. She explained to me that she couldn’t help me but another person would. The other help took at least 10 to 15 mins to arrive. Finally, the nurse came and I told her I wanted to leave as I felt ignored and mistreated. It was noon as I explained to the nurse and I did not have anything to eat from 11 pm the night before. She apologized and handed me a menu that should have been handed to me a day prior or the night before but right there I knew what they were doing. They had skipped my breakfast and lunch with no explanation but only apologies because I was another black patient. Furthermore, I was not rude, disrespectful, or demanding. Not providing dinner and lunch to me with no explanation is unacceptable. I pray I never go back to St. Joseph’s hospital or get sick again but die due to natural causes. I am 41 and I don’t take any pills or medication nor do I have any underlined illnesses. I trained myself not to become sick developing a high immunity because I have always heard about hospitals treating people unfairly. Now I experienced it for myself and it was an eye-opener. I will make sure to implement a healthier lifestyle so I won’t go to this or future hospitals. It's incredibly sad that although I complained I still got minimal attention throughout the day. Moreover, I was to leave a day after and I requested to leave immediately after the doctor release me. I am saddened and uneasy about this experience because I didn’t know they would have treated me like this. It is 2022 and no matter how many laws are implemented, and how much diversity training is executed there will always be racism embedded in many human beings' way of life and behavior (which I may never understand because humans are humans), especially whites.

I spent altogether 6 hours just to get a chest X-ray, which includes transportation there for two trips. The first time was the Monday holiday which I had not been told, nor had the check-in person on the first floor been told, nor had whoever was supposed to lock the doors to the radiology department been told, was a holiday for radiology. I was interviewed at great length in order to enter me into the computer system. The people interviewing me were nice. The sheet printed out after all this, so I could go over to get the actual X-ray, contained the address from a place I had moved from 24 years previous. The person doing the actual X-ray was very nice. The requisition to the radiologist who read the film seems to have listed only 'dyspnea' as the reason for the X-ray, and the Radiologist to judge from his report seems to have understood that to mean 'acute dyspnea' since he said the x-ray was 'negative' and mentioned there was no sign of pneumothorax. Actually it was for dyspnea on exertion as my doctor had written on the requisition. Despite the prominent signs indicating that there would be no hidden costs and that the costs would be divulged in advance, nobody told me the costs of this x-ray, and nobody has sent me a bill yet, unless of course they sent it to the place I moved from 24 years ago, or the place I left 21 years ago, or the place I left three years ago, none of which are forwarding my mail at this time. So much for computerized idiocy and depersonalization ruining medical care in this country! But this place actually lets me say what I want in this evaluation! Also, I know they have some good doctors here, and that is why I chose this hospital. I have brought my husband and a friend here. The staff is much more polite than the staff at some hospitals near me, that I can say. So, if you need health care and you don't have a time machine, I recommend this hospital.

I just have to write with a good review of this place, especially in contrast to a horrible experience I had at a different hospital. I took myself to the ER here for something that came up following a severe illness (the one that got me to the other hospital). The first thing this hospital did was the person at check-in got all my personal information correct. Wow! I know, it’s basic stuff. And they continually check it to confirm, which is also just a thing I think hospitals are supposed to do. But after that being completely botched in the other location, I was super impressed by them doing it here. And yeah, I get it. Some people have had difficult experiences here. But also, hospitals are difficult places. Doctors are human, and it’s where people go to be sick - or worse. But my experience on this day was that a) the building itself was very pleasant and clean. Instead of only harsh white, they use some wood and softer colors, which puts you more at ease right away. B) The staff were EXTREMELY nice. And so was my doctor. C) They let my friend come in with my for emotional support, which also made the experience nicer. And not only was my doctor kind and friendly, but she was gentle, and when she explained things to me, she somehow managed to do it in such a way that I could understand what she was saying without dumbing things down to me. This, again, in stark contrast to the other hospital I had gone to, where I had followed up just two days before this visit at St. Joseph. There, the doctor basically abused me when I went to her for help. So I walked out - and ended up here two days later. And I’m glad I chose this place. So, to anyone who had a bad experience here, I would say: I believe you. Probably something went wrong. But it’s possible that it could have been very much more wrong somewhere else.

I’d give this place zero stars if I could - I’m always getting lost in red tape hell. I’ve had three scans here over the summer - every time, they can’t find the fax. I have to ask my GP to fax it to them four times - for each scan. And now, I cannot get them to release my medical records to a competent hospital. I feel like I keep getting lost in a system I don’t know how to navigate and there’s nothing I can do. No one ever has my charts, no one ever knows what’s going on, no one is ever there to explain what I need to do to move things forward. It’s heartbreaking because everyone is so nice but I can’t put something so important into the care of a hospital that cannot get anything together. Problems I’ve run into: - misdiagnosed as GI issues for a gynecological issue by a gynecologist - writing the incorrect amount for a prescription, then making me come in the day after surgery to get the right prescription, only to have it be the wrong one - AGAIN - wait times that balloon into hours after the appointment - unable to make appointments due to the office only being available during a three hour window, two days a week and not even being there during this narrow timeframe - waiting to get scheduled for scans long, long after they’ve been assigned - again, nothing will get done without at least three faxes from your doctor - one always needs to get faxed while you’re standing there If I can ever get my charts released to someone, I’ll leave this place in hell where they left me.

Simple procedure that was supposed to be 20 minutes. Upon leaving, I desperately stated something was wrong. I was ignored. I blacked out in the parking lot and was taken for observation where I was left alone for several hours until my hemoglobin dropped to 4 and I was given 18 units of blood and spent 3 weeks in the ICU. Subsequently they wouldn't provide my medical records. I attempted contact 16 documented times (and more undocumented) receiving every excuse from flooding to "we already sent them." When I received them they were out of order and missing pages and I was charged. Further, the billing was inaccurate and egregious, not matching services and obviously fabricated for financial gain. I spent the next 2 years trying to get in touch with one patient advocate and over dozens of calls, emails, and letters the only response I got was when I sent a message stating I would have no choice but to contact blue cross regarding the erroneous billing. Only then was I contacted by billing department who notified me I don't owe anything (they took all my money before so I knew that), and they couldn't help with a patient advocate. I would get teased that if I didn't sue, I would receive someone to discuss my case to save future lives but they obviously played their cards to wear me down. The very first thing anyone should do is immediately go to the press. This hospital is dangerous and my experience is one of many.

I’d advise you to seek medical aid elsewhere. In particular when delivering your child. My doctor is part of this hospital but practices else where. My room was not very clean and extremely dated. They sent me home after having contractions 5 minutes apart with high blood pressure and 1 week past my due date. They told me don’t come back until my contractions are so bad I cannot speak. I called my doctor 20 hours later to let them know this info they said go back and tell them to call her if they want me to leave again. I was high risk because of my age as is. They seemed to be short staffed in labor and delivery. The staff after having the baby was very kind and helpful which is the only reason for 2 stars. I had a overall not so great experience with my delivery. I waited 8 hours after asking for my epidural to finally get one. It ended up sliding out because they used the wrong sized tape to secure it( the said out loud it was the wrong bandage) so I had to have a second one. There is so much more to add to this bad review but I don’t believe there is possibly enough room to write everything down. Do your research try to find a hospital that will make you feel safe and cared for . I felt like I was the one who finally asked for my C section after the babies heart rate dropped multiple times and they were unable to stabilize it. I don’t know what more to add other than maybe seek another hospital.

The treatment at this hospital is inhumane. I and a total knee replacement. No rooms available for a scheduled surgery. I was thrown up in the 11th flood with no air conditioning. The room was over 90 degrees. I was given no food or water for close to 30 hours. Told I was not able to get up and move, which is a big no no with knee replacements and unable to go to the washroom which is a basic human necessity. I had zero pain control, and they forgot to hook up IV bag. When attending came in the next day Dr. Hussian, he was the only doctor with compassion, and was very upset with this treatment. He even tracked me down a tray to eat because I was not given anything to eat in over a day. I complained to attending, charge nurse, and head of hospital. The lack of movement and care was neglectful. I received a call a few days later about “policy” review that was it. If you have a loved one, older that doesn’t understand that you must need basic care after a TKR, you must advocate for them or it can up being dangerous for them. Also ask for a breathing machine to prevent pneumonia, I wasn’t given one until almost discharge time and it’s necessary for post op care. I cannot believe the lack of care I received. I feel like I was cheated out of learning to walk, basic care, and put at risk for post op complications. My surgery date was may 10th 2022. If HR reads this and would like to chat to me again.

I honestly think the people that work here could not possibly care less about their patients. My husband has had the unfortunate experience of being admitted to this hell hole. While the people are nice enough, and the nurses in the ER are fabulous, once you get assigned a room forget-about-it, you WILL be ignored. I have had to walk to the nurses station three time over the past two hours for help with alarms going off on myriad machines because they don’t answer the call button, and they must be deaf not to hear the loud beeping of the malfunctioning equipment. They tell you that they’ll be back to check on you, or give you medication and they NEVER show up. I am seriously afraid to leave my husband here for the night, I am very close to taking him to Northwestern. If you care about your family members avoid this hospital at all costs because they may not make it out of here alive. We are still sitting here waiting for the doctor to come take the NG tube out of my husband’s nose. They put it in over six hours ago and have only come to check on it once, that was after I bugged them to look at it. The surgical doctor promised to come by at 6:30pm to remove the tube and as of 8pm they still have not shown up! So far I’ve asked twice for a doctor and been lied to that one is on the way. We are a few minutes away from signing an AMA to get out of here!

I had knee replacement surgery in March of 2015. The hospital staff was outstanding, my issue is with the billing policies. I was in once for a total of 10 days, after the first 3 days I was moved to a different floor. My insurance company paid the hospital over $100,000 for my stay. My policy states I have a $450 co-pay. I spoke with someone from billing in April of this year. I explained that I still have not returned to work and my wife is disabled. I was told that I could pay $50 a month which I agreed to. Today I received a call from the billing department. I was told that since I was moved to a different floor during my stay there were 2 separate bills issued and my co-pay is now $900! The person who called me last month made NO MENTION of this at all! Now these greedy bastards want more money every month. You might think after they already received over $100,000 they might cut me a bit of slack. I must believe they've been stiffed for much more than $900 plus I'm making the payments I agreed to make! As I said earlier, the hospital staff was excellent. Their billing procedures and their attitude needs major work. If you should end up here, go over EVERYTHING with a fine toothed comb. These will people will do anything possible to bleed a few more bucks from a PAYING CUSTOMER!

My 22yr old sister went to the ER Sunday evening 8/14. Unfortunately she miscarried. When we got to the ER, (2 sisters) we were greeted by the rudest, most inconsiderate guy working the desk. Thankfully there was a woman that directed us to her. (She was amazing!) My young brother in law was in the er waiting room crying due to the circumstances and the guy from the desk got up and rudely hit him on the shoulder to put his mask up. It was more than a tap. Now we understand protocols due to Covid. However, how is someone supposed to wipe their face while understandably crying. Please tell me when it became acceptable to to touch people you don’t know?!? When I asked to see her after the doctor officially told her the bad news, she was in the back alone, the guy told me I can just wait because she’s going to be discharged. I said I understand, but I need to be with her. She’s alone and just received terrible news. He declined again. In steps the same woman from above and she took me back. Thankfully! Because honestly, things were going to escalate. You need to have staff that is compassionate. Understanding. Caring. When peoples emotions are high due to a loved one, your staff needs to understand that. Your patients aren’t just a number to their family that loves them.

If I could give St. Joseph Hospital a -4 I would. My husband has been admitted twice in this hospital & each time the experience was horrible. Once he was taken to his room, it went straight downhill from there. Some of the nurses he had were rude and disrespectful. They let my husband be in pain for hours. When he pushes the call button, they take along time to respond. Some of the doctors do not relay information as needed. It seems like the more pain you are in the worse they treat you. The state needs to launch an investigation into this hospital, the nurses, staff & the entire institution. My husband has Stage 4 cancer. They don’t care about the patients. Some of the nurses there need to be fired because of how they treat the patients, my husband included. It’s sad that the good nurses & doctors get wrapped up with the awful ones. But some of the doctors are just as dismissive & disrespectful as the nurses are. I am not going to let this go at all. I don’t care how many people I have to reach out to but something has got to change. I also had to have a few words with a nurse at the clinic for trying to speak to me like I was her child. The disrespect is not being addressed properly & apparently it seems like it is encouraged at St. Joseph Hospital & clinics.

Thanks very much to all the wonderful doctors and nurses and staff at St Joseph’s Hospital. My friend was in the hospital for 12 days and I visited him every day. He arrived in an ambulance on a Sunday afternoon; his temperature was 94 and his kidneys and liver had shut down. They gave him immediate caring service and luckily due to a cancellation they were able to insert him for quick surgery that very day – on a Sunday! There were 8 professionals in the operating room but that’s just an example of the good care. The ER waiting room was actually empty at times! Unlike the big name hospitals. Much thanks to all the great doctors and nurses including surgeons Dr Zhu and Dr Belden, the attending physicians Dr Prasuna Toomganti and Dr Muhammad, The kidney physicians Dr Mohamed Salem and Dr Patel, the urologist Dr Habib. The nurses in the ICU, the nurses on the 8th floor and the 11th floor (I wish I could remember all their names) gave consistent caring attention. Not to mention the receptionist on the first floor, who learns your name within a day or two. Sure, occasionally something went wrong and my friend felt ignored for a while, but before long a nurse would come along and solve the problem. Much thanks to everyone. I highly recommend St Josephs.

AMITA is the absolute worst of cold corporate healthcare for profit. They claim to be "faith based". In October 2020, I was a patient in their ER. There was a nurse who refused to wear his mask. I chastised this nurse, and in retaliation the nurse lied to the head doctor, told them I was throwing objects, and despite me asking for proof of this thrown object and pointing out that I was not being aggressive in any way, shape, or form, I had my wrists and ankles restrained to the bed for an hour. It was originally a half hour, but when a half hour approached and I asked to be let go, a different nurse added another half hour for speaking. I called the hospital and told them of this event. Specifically I spoke to Steven Meier, the manager of their ER. He acted concerned and assured me they would investigate. I received a form letter (no phone call) 4 days later saying that they concluded their investigation on the SAME DAY AS OUR PHONE CALL saying they found no wrongdoing. I called for more detail and he refused to tell me what they found in their investigation or give me any other information. Abusive, negligent, no care at all for patients. Avoid at all costs.

DOUBLE BILL SCAM. I went to Stellar Pain And Spine Specialist next door to the hospitals. They have a scam setup with their billing practice. I was charged $750 by St Joseph and $350 by Stellar Pain before insurance and $220 and $140 after insurance for a simple visit with a specialist. The visit did not include any procedure but just a discussion about my back pain and possible solutions. Stellar Pain is charging visits as if it is a visit to Amita St Joseph Hospital and they charged the visit as if I used St Joseph's services. My total bill is $360 for a simple office visit. In comparison, I went to another doctor for the same type of visit and was charged only my $35 copay. I wound up having a little procedure on my back and my cost was only $330 -- LESS than the $360 combined charge from Amita St Joseph and Stell Pain to just talk to a doctor (no procedure). This is a DOUBLE BILLING SCAM and they know that the patient won't know of costs beforehand. I spoke with Both Stellar Pain and Amita St Joseph but both said they correctly billed the visit. THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE - AVOID STELLAR PAIN AND AMITA ST JOSEPH.

I did not have a good experience. My gyne works out of this hospital, but if I ever need another surgery, I will plead with her to send me elsewhere. From the rude, elderly woman in registration to the neglectful nurses in recovery -- I have nothing positive to say. I literally shed tears before they gave me something for the pain that I felt after my surgery. I told the nurse my pain was a 7 out of 10; she never had a doctor come see me, and I was discharged quickly with no care. No one informed me that this was a "teaching" institution and I had to ask one man who was standing and staring at me if he was a student. No one asked for my consent to be observed. This was a very personal, gynecological surgery -- I dread the thought that a student observed during the whole procedure. By the time the 2nd student showed up in recovery, I politely asked her to leave. I didn't want someone observing me crying in pain. Overall, an awful experience, and I hope I never have to return to this hospital again.

I was admitted to Ascension St. Joseph for nearly one week. I have asthma, diabetes, GERD, high blood pressure, and a few other conditions. During the one week that I was in that hospital they refused to contact any of my prescsribing doctors or provide treatment for the above mentioned health conditions, all of which I told them I had. By the time I was discarched, I could barely breath, and I was vomiting up stomach acid every night. And the "nurse practioner" that I saw prescribed me a new drug that elevated my blood pressure so badly that it almost caused me to have a stroke. The nurses refused to contact the on call doctors to get me a medicine to lower my life threatening high blood pressure, which was caused by a NEW drug that they prescribed and kept me on for two days. I was treated like I was sub-human, like an animal. Like an anused animal left out to die. This was one of the most awful and traumatic experiences I've ever had in my life. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Really disappointed with the policy: The hospital policy at maternity floor is not right. I understand that there should be a limit of the visitors in the actual patient room, but close relatives should be allowed to stay in the lobby/waiting area. I have been at many different hospitals for all my relatives, there was a waiting room for the family member to be there for a moral support. I literally kicked out of the 4th floor lobby. They walked me out like I was doing a violation. Even though I agreed to leave, and called my family to pick me up and they are an hour away. The receptionist told me that she will walk me to the elevator and I have to wait downstairs. They were giving me a sheet of paper to explain the policy. I am business owner and I know there are policies, but there’s a way to explain it. Not being rude and blaming that you’re following the policy. I put one star, because there’s no zero option. Very disappointed that there is lack of emotional support!

They charged me for "urine pregnancy test" which was not performed. Over the last 9 months, I have made endless calls, submitted multiple disputes, and wrote multiple letters to this hospital to have my bill corrected. They never corrected my bill. I have several pieces of evidence that a "urine pregnancy test" was not performed: [1] the room I was put into does NOT have a restroom, and the hospital should have security camera footage that shows I never left the room until being discharged. [2] their doctor note states "patient was unable to ambulate," so it was practically impossible for me complete a serious of movements, i.e. standing up, moving to a restroom, collecting a pee sample, during that time period. [3] they don't have record or test result of a pee sample from me. As a patient who visited your hospital alone and was conscious at all time, I know that I did not pee at your hospital. Your refusal to correct an incorrect charge is unacceptable.

Great doctors and nurses most of them not all. Some CNAs and Nurses are good while others enjoy verbally abusing you especially if you hanicapped and complain about the service and equipment not working. My insurance pays like 26000 for a 4 day stayand the showers dont work and are dirty. Furthermore the CNAs do not do the daily tasks to keep you clean. Heck I have a port for cancer medicine and they dont all follow proper sanitary procedures. Recently stayed there being discharged. The shower did not work. Would give a zero rating. The nurse intervening accused me of screaming when I am hard of hearing her name was Courtney. I would almost chose death over dealing with her again. Courtney very much she discriminates againsts handicapped and sick individuals by picking on them. I really plan on changing hospitals for my cancerand heart care needs. Because of her and a few others like herI would rate the hospital a zero if onlyI could.

I am in severe pain after my surgery yesterday and my postop instructions clearly state to call the hospital promptly if I am not responding to pain killers. I have not responded at all to Norco so I called the number I was given at 4am and it just kept on ringing with nobody to pick up. I finally reached someone at 8am this morning. They said they would give me the number to the oncall resident. I called and the number was for internal medicine. They rerouted me to the operator who said unless I had the resident’s name they wouldn’t page me to anyone. She told me to have a nice day and hung up on me. I finally reached my doctor when the office opened at 8:30 and they told me to double on Norco. It would have been nice if there were actually an on-call doctor at 4am this morning when I called because if they had told me this sooner, maybe I would have actually been able to get some sleep and not be in agony.

I had knee replacement by Dr Jeffrey Ackerman which is another story really quick Dr. Ackerman is simply the best orthopedic surgeon in the business. But I wanted to talk about a nurse in surgery recovery room nurse Maria, nurse Maria was wonderful, hard working, very kind with great bed side manners. She was so busy and she disregarded herself and kept letting other nurses go on lunch and patients kept coming in and not enough patients going out I felt so bad for her and she kept up with everyone and stayed so pleasant at her job she is just a loving and hard working nurse with plenty of experience st. Joseph hospital is lucky to have Maria on staff. I witnessed other nurses not as great as maria but I have respect for all nurses big shout out to nurse Maria thank you for everything Maria you made my recovery very comfortable and pleasant could not have done it without you. Sincerely, Phillip Paul Pedrosa

I have nothing but amazing things to say about everyone we interacted with at Presence St. Joseph. My wife and I had our first child there recently. Every person not only explained to us in understandable terms what's happening step by step, they also had wonderful bedside manner and genuinely cared for us and baby. Even days after, different team members would check in on us. I am profoundly grateful for all these hard working people and I have a new found respect and appreciation for all the various roles in helping bring a new life into this world. In terms of looking at which hospital to deliver at, St. Joe made the choice easy for us with their layout and accessibility. They reaffirmed our choice with their top level doctors and nurse team within minutes of birth. I had no doubt while we were there that my wife and child were getting the very best care. Beyond appreciative!

I recently went to St Joseph Hospital in Chicago for outpatient surgery. Unlike many Chicago hospitals, St Joseph does not have a separate dedicated outpatient surgery center which is strange. The waiting area is comfortable and modern as is the pre-op area. Despite that, I cannot recommend outpatient surgery here because the nursing staff is overly aggressive which results in mistakes. Also, if you are a special needs patient, this is not the hospital to have surgery performed as they apparently have no protocols for dealing with special needs of patients. Nursing staff needs better training and supervision. On the other hand, in-house anesthesia staff is very good, customer focused and effective. From past experience, if you are contemplating outpatient surgery, a better choice would be Northwestern, University of Chicago or Illinois Masonic hospitals.

One of the weirdest and least helpful experiences I've ever had at a hospital. Most of the staff - admin to doctors - were not professional, had very strange demeanors, and explained nothing in between hours of waiting for someone to come tell me what was happening next or what my results of a certain test meant. There would be long periods of waiting and then rushed, empty answers when someone did show up. I saw probably 10 or more different doctors and staff, it was never the same person. There was no sense of urgency, and if I'd not aggressively (meaning repeated times, not anger) asked for answers or to get out of there since they couldn't help me, I felt like even more days would have gone by just charging away for my meals and time in the room. I am supposed to follow up with more specialists there but have no intention of doing so.

The psychiatric unit is horrible. I came in for help and I left feeling even worse and traumatized. Majority of nurses and staff are so unprofessional. You can tell they hate their job and care even less about you. They have no idea how to handle mental health patients. A man named Daniel who ran the floor had confronted me and my roommate in our room (after I had questioned them about our care) and it scared both us (and instead of correcting him) we were both sedated because no one was listening to us. Also during that time, a nurse with pink hair fought with me and asked me if I had a degree (assuming I and probably other patients in this unit are crazy and dumb). Even talked to management after the event on the floor for help and they didn’t care. Do not go here. They don’t respect their patients.

  • Lauren Settle

This is the worst ER hospital I’ve ever been to. There are barely any patients yet the nurses and doctors run around like chicken with their heads cut off. The ER doctors are flat out rude to both patients and nurses. We couldn’t get anyone to actually explain what the issue was and the treatment needed. They would not listen to me regarding my moms past health or medications. It took over 4 hours to get the IV antibiotics that should have been administered in the first 30 minutes. This is a horrible hospital that needs to be shut down. The lack of professionalism, lack of experience and just general understanding of humanity is just lacking completely. If you have a choice, do not come here. I would especially avoid Dr Pak who I personally watched being rude to every person she came in contact with.

I suppose it is hard to post a review for a hospital, as everyone walking through the doors has a different set of circumstances. My journey started eight years ago, with life changing and debilitating migraine and pressure headaches. Long story short, after visits to Iowa City, Northwestern Medical and Mayo clinics, Diamond Headache Clinic partnered with Ascension Medical were the only ones who could give me the relief from the constant struggles and pains I faced on a daily basis. The Doctors, Nurses, Aides and entire staff do their very best to see that my needs were addressed and dealt with on multiple occasions. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing any medical assistance. St. Joseph and Diamond Headache Clinic have been integral in restoring some normalcy in my life!

  • tdib1489

Absolutely terrible experience. Mother with a heart condition that couldn’t stay conscious and the ambulance wouldn’t even lay her down or do an EKG. They moved her into the general waiting room instead of a hospital room and kept her waiting an absurd amount of time while coldly dismissing our concerns and refusing to do tests quickly. Absolutely no concern for her health or empathy for her situation, if this was a heart attack she’d just be gone. If you have ANY ability to go to Naperville or Bolingbrook, do so. Your health, safety, and sanity will thank you. Not to mention that both time she got her tests done they left her alone to stand on her own and spent the entire time complaining about another patient BY NAME, extremely unprofessional and further proved their inability to care.

  • Grant R

Very disappointing experience all around. I was greeted very rudely (despite being in physical distress) by a nurse who had a serious attitude problem and talked to me like I was an idiot. I don't feel like I need to justify my visit to the ER. I was physically ill and this was a horrible start. Then, I was essentially told that the doctor's had someone who is sick, even though I was sick. This was really rude and was basically telling me that they weren't taking me seriously. Very uncomfortable physical environment too, I left after an hour because I received no treatment and told them I would be more comfortable at home because I wasn't getting any help being there. Very disappointing. This hospital really needs to work on the patient experience.

  • Jacob Rowden

Unless it’s an absolute last resort, go somewhere else. Someone very close to me went in with a lung problem that had been persisting for more than six weeks and had begun to prevent her from sleeping. They did no form of testing whatsoever to identify the problem and merely performed an EKG and sent her back, with one of the nurses commenting that the EKG’s were meant for “people who are actually sick” while removing the equipment. Weeks later it turns out she had a very serious issue which has become significantly more severe. Not only are they incompetent, they are incredibly rude and clearly do not care about the patients that go there. The fact that these people have the nerve to self-proclaim themselves “heroes” is an absolute joke.

  • Betsy Lalich

I am a new patient at St. Joseph. But I noticed it is now part of a large conglomerate, which always has drawbacks. The personal attention to this specific hospital is gone. However, many great professionals work there. One disappointment was being called just before leaving to arrive for a series of tests, to be told they had to be canceled due to lack of staff. I was an RN in a teaching hospital for almost 30 years. You never say such a discomforting thing to a patient. More importantly, you always have a "back-up" crew to do necessary jobs. Therefore I am not entirely pleased and disappointed the more personal quality has disappeared. It is not comforting to me, as a patient, and certainly not to the community it serves.

  • Ethan SCAR (E3N)

I’ve been to two hospitals that have been great. This being my second. A majority of the staff that I had the pleasure of meeting were great. The male staff were motivating and the women were just absolute sweethearts. The communication wasn’t terrible and they always did what they could to make sure you were good n’ adjusted. There were some staff that could improve on their communication but for the most part I have nothing to complain about because (again) this was the best hospital to go to. If your mental health is declining please take the five days out of your week because this place opened my eyes up in three days and helped me confirm that what I was doing to better my mental, was in fact working.

  • Daniel “Vishera”

I had real good experience here in the Nurology department. The receptionist, Sue was very helpful, respectful & clear explaining things I needed to sign & giving me information for scheduling upcoming appointments. From checking in to getting into the doctor's office was only a 5 minute wait. My doctor here was very good. Much better than my doctor at Northshore hospital. This doctor talked to me, explaining things very well & listened very well too. He was able to answer all the questions that I had. Explained my condition on point, better than my previous Northshore doctor. He scheduled the next appointments I needed, an MRI & EEG. Happy to say this is my new hospital I'm going to over Northshore.

  • Cindy Maturo

Horrible experience at the ER, son was seen but they did not do the proper tests that the triage nurse even wrote on his chart. They discharged & then I was told we had to re-register to be seen so they would perform the needed tests not the expensive CAT scan they performed (which will not be paid). We registered & waited over 4 hours for him to be seen again. When he was seen they once again did not perform the needed tests. All in all we were there 9 hours and they refused to perform the needed test. I would never use this hospital. Once they were bought out by Amita Health, patient care is non existent has and only profits matter. We will be filing papers against the bill and the lack of care.

  • Miguel Angel

This center has been good to my mother. I've been here and they have treated her with respect and patience. The place it self looks nice and clean and both address 2845 and 2900 are both the same building. We visited the fifth floor and from start we have been treated well. The doctor explained the procedure. I really like that they give you a business card with a number and while waiting you can see in a couple of TVs the progress on the person you're waiting for by looking at the number on the screen. The one thing I didn't appreciate much is that when the procedure was done a nurse kept insisting on getting dressed right away and basically leave. She went mean but felt rushed out of The place.

  • Marija Sjenicic

I gave birth to our son in SJ hospital! Amazing expereince, bedside manners exceptional by all Drs, nurses and all the staff. Our son was born prematurely, so he had to stay in NICU for 10 days. Overall expereince, considering the fact you are talking about the hospital, met all our expectations, exceeded some. I was admitted thru ER, instantly checked and after several hours it was decided I had to deliver in 34 weeks. All other services in this hospital, lab tests, my OB practice and visits are exceptional and recommended. Communication and care by all members during those 4 days in the hospital and later visits to our son helped us through this period. Thank you!

  • Cynthia Newhouse

I recently faced a very scary medical emergency with complicated evaluation and slow response to attempted treatment. The ER, admitting process, doctors, nurses and support staff were all human-focused and treated me with compassion and excellence in standard of care. I felt everyone went above and beyond in the coordination of my care. I am so grateful I chose Saint Joseph’s and I will be returning again. I would, and will, highly recommend this hospital over other facilities local to me downtown going forward. Dr. Weinstein, Dr. khan, too many excellent nurses (Malan, Edgar, Kate, etc) all met my expectations beyond imagination, to name a few! Food was good too!

  • Elena Andino

Do not work at St.Joesph Hostipal for Food service position!!!! Management very poor…. I had thee worst experience and only work there 3 1/2 weeks and Quit..They like playing with peoples hours and money so be careful…The employees that been there longer are stealing pop coffee in the back room and they don’t like working/they wanna hide like we here to work and not play around..Some employees are smoking weed outside of workplace and coming to work smelling like weed.. This place needs to do better cuz Everyone who trying to work there, they quit right away .. The place is dirty and needs inspection to look around cuz it smell like rotten inside…

I give the Ascension St Joseph Hospital Chicago ultrasound department one star for overbooking appointments when they are short staffed which necessitates cancelling patient appointments several times. They need to do better, have a back up plan and hire more staff to minimize appointment cancellations. On the other hand, I give one of their ultrasound techs Leilani, 5 stars for her great personality, the way she puts customers at ease and for her professionalism. Hopefully the ultrasound dept doesn’t lose more staff. In the interim, I might suggest that patients needing an ultrasound go to a different hospital until these problems are corrected.

  • Susan Kuhn

The staff nurses could use an overhaul. My mom is a patient there now. I'm hoping her dr's are better than this. My mom has difficulties picking up the phone. They refuse to assist her. I called the nursing staff and asked if someone would hand phone to her. They don't know her is the response. I didn't ask that. I'm her POA and daughter. Asked a nurse to call me back. No call back. I called back again, nurse is checking patient out. She finally calls me back, 4 times and hangs up on me all 4 times. Seriously? Never calls back after that. Bad service. Simply asking to speak to a patient and nurse update on mom's condition. Can't even get that.

  • Joe Carlson

I had an emergency last weekend and ended up in the ER at St Joseph’s Saturday Morning/afternoon. It’s never a great time to go to the ER but with COVID19 I was extraordinarily nervous. I nothing but great things to say about all the staff especially the nurses and doctors. I wish I remember the nurse that was with me most of the day, he was excellent, attentive and kept me calm. I ended up having to be admitted for surgery and spent the night. Nurse Rita on the 11th floor was so great as was my surgeon Dr Klingbeil. The whole time I was there everyone was careful to keep distancing between patients. I heard others but didn’t see any.

  • ann

surgical appointment that was scheduled for this morning was canceled with no notice at all. i received a phone call friday confirming today's appointment from the time, the procedure, and a reminder to take the prescribed medication prior to surgery. then all of a sudden it's like none of that ever happened. incompetent staff and hospital. nurse named chris claimed it was because they didn't have the surgical equipment, then later said that the surgical equipment was being used for something else. i am so speechless..if you're going to make up a random excuse, at least choose a plausible one and stick to it because really??

  • Teresa Gallardo

My son went to the hospital this morning because he needs a Detox so that he can be treated at the H.A.S. clinic. Unfortunately they denied him the service for not having health insurance and being undocumented. He needs to be admitted soon because he has a bed reserved for Monday. I wonder, how is it possible that a person who is willing to recover and change his life is denied the opportunity because of his immigration status? Please, this is a mother who is willing to do everything necessary for the recovery of her son. I don't have money and he doesn't too, have to have some kind of charity for situations like this.

  • Erin Powell

I had a UTI that was not getting treated by immediate care and I knew it was getting worse. I went to the ER and was nervous about contracting covid while I was there, but there were directions on where to go to be separated. They took me in quickly and got me set up and made sure I was feeling comfortable and that they could prepare an IV. After I was admitted and spoke to the doctor, they gave me antibiotics and precautions to take since it had become a kidney infection. They gave me detailed instructions and paper scripts and I have never felt more cared for or heard when going to an emergency room/care facility.

  • Sharyon Cosey

I had an unpleasant experience while waiting to have a procedure at St. Joseph's about three weeks ago. I sent a message via email to the head of the hospital but have yet to hear back. Also still playing phone tag with someone from patient experience team. Will soon be writing an update. UPDATE: I had to go to St. Joseph Hospital's ER two nights ago & am happy to say the service I received was great! Everyone was welcoming, professional & helpful, even security this time! I'd highly recommend St. Joseph's to others but still hope their entire security staff ended up receiving, in my opinion, much needed training.

  • Lillianna Blair

The nurses at the desk in the emergency room might want to quit gossiping, we overheard them talking about patients, each other, and other departments. While we were waiting for hours they were belittling and yelling at each other constantly and yelling over the phone with other departments. The nurses and doctors were all very rude except for one male nurse who was helping cover for someone else. The doctor we had rapid-fire asked questions, cut off my friend while she was answering, and kept repeating back info wrong like she wasn't listening at all. Scary place to have an emergency, go anywhere but here.

  • Megan McIver

Okay, let me just thank all of the staff for taking such good care of me when I was literally on deaths door. The ED staff was quick and competent. Sarah was my nurse and she was so good. You could tell that she understood how sick I was and needed help immediately. Dr. Lim was also very good understanding that my diabetes complicated my persistent nausea and vomiting. When I was transferred upstairs to my room my nurse Jeb was great. He gave me nausea/pain meds and let me sleep. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Thank you for taking such good care of me during my 3 day stay.

  • Donna DePhillips

My daughter, who has substance abuse issues, AND some sort of parasite infection, who was already terrified to go to a doctor/ER/detox program went to St Joseph Monday evening, April 10, 2023. The person who was checking her in stated that her skin sure did look ugly and didn't think they could help her. She left in embarrassment and is currently still untreated. She had finally reached out for help and the heedless words of a rude person probably will keep her untreated. So much for "compassion ". It is so difficult for her and her family and my guess is you will deny it happened.

  • Andrea van den Boogaard

I would not recommend Ascension St Joseph. I have consistently been snapped at, cut off, and spoken over by staff (practicing doctors, nurses, and admin workers), there are communication breakdowns between admin offices and doctors every time I visit, and I have consistently been kept waiting for 50+ minutes for all of my appointments except Dr. Tam's (who has an amazing practice!). There are religious crucifixes everywhere - Not just crosses, but full crucifixes with Jesus - And that includes in their ultrasound rooms as well, directly in front of the patient's bed.

  • Leon Azrikan

Had to bring my 90 years old mother in for observation due to some issues she was having we had to go in through an emergency room to sign in, staff at the front desk emergency room not pleasant at all in fact rude the way the talked to us! We pointed out that there is a cigaret but under the chair in the waiting room, they didn’t care or bother to call someone to clean it, this is hospital we are talking about and no one cares about getting floor cleaned. How ever, doctor and nurse who attended to my mother inside emergency room were very nice and pleasant!

  • Pujan Pokharel

Worst hospital ever .when we are on time usually waiting time will be more than 2 hr but just for 1 time we were late for 8 min because there elevator was not working so was not able to check in on time they said either to reschedule the appointment or they changed the appointment time 1 hr and 15 min later .They don’t care about the patient health nor patient time.We went to hospital for regular 1 year visit at 9:50 and can you believe out from hospital at 2:30pm just waiting waiting and waiting .Please don’t visit this hospital incase of emergency .

  • Stefani Holley

So here’s my update. After spending 2 weeks in The Diamond Headache unit in the hospital, I am headed home. I am feeling so much better and prepared with a toolbox full of medicines, treatments and insights. The unit is known worldwide and I met some amazing people who truly understand the pains and barriers of unrelenting headaches. I have a list of things to follow up on and have appointments already scheduled. The care, compassion, empathy, attention and understanding are by far the best care I have ever received. Blessings

  • Susan Schaefer

The doctors and all the health care providers are attentive to questions, give information in lay language, and are personable. I had stage one breast cancer in 2020. I felt respected and nurtured by every person who worked in the Mark Connelly Cancer Center at St. Josephs, from the receptionists to the surgeon, Dr. Connelly. I told everyone I knew that my breast cancer experience was positive. (I had no post-surgery pain and I meditated during my radiation treatments.) My post-appointments, including my mammograms have been equally as easy.

  • Sista' Joy

I was having difficulty with my breathing and went to the Emergency Room at Saint Joe's. I am so glad that I did because they saved my life. I had a very serious problem with my lungs and they caught it just in time. I was in intensive care for about 15 days and their nurses and doctors were excellent. I was so thankful that they knew exactly what to do in helping me. Not only were they professional but also kind. I highly recommend this hospital and the doctors who are on staff there. I, quite frankly, wouldn't go anywhere else now!

  • Darron Tillman

The staff is rude and loud literally one of thw loudest waiting rooms in my whole entire life. We were on the 3rd floor and im guessing there was some type of admin Meeting...alot of guys in suits. They were talking to each other very loudly, total disregard for any of the family members in the waiting room. Who cares if youre loved one is havi g a tumor removed i need to tell my co worker at the top of my voice what im going to do with the left over turkey!! If this is yhe level of care here i wouldnt have a bandage changed here

  • Joanna Moraitis

Had my annual Mammogram, friendly, professional service, as always! One thing you can count on at St. Joe's, your not just a number at this hospital, no matter what I have been treated for any of my family members....you are always treated as a person with needs, not a number!!! This world has become quite cold and not User friendly especially when your sick...but St. Joe's still has that caring, person touch and caring staff & I really appreciate them all. Keep doing the great job you guys are moving in the right direction.

  • Stephanie P

My mom recently had colon cancer surgery at St. Joseph Hospital, and I'm disappointed to say that her post-operative care on the 11th floor was far from satisfactory. There was a nurse named Caroline, who was assigned to her, neglected her duties, leaving my mom unattended for extended periods. Additionally, the discharge process was rushed, and the after-care instructions provided were inadequate. This experience left us with serious concerns about the quality of care and patient safety at this hospital.

  • David Rudziewicz

What happened to this hospital? It used to be a friendly place where a patient was treated like a person not a commodity. Complete confusion from scheduling to receiving treatment. What happened to customer service and the human touch? St. Joseph is probably embarrassed that his name is associated with this train wreck! The employees do try. Management is to blame!. Shame on you! Follow up Two days ago I responded to request to call St. Joe about my review. I left two messages. Thus far, no return call…

  • Diego Tarazona

Came to this place to have a hand surgery. Even though it was a minor surgery, the entire team was super super advocate to take care of me. But I mean the honest care. I felt really welcomed and warm. Everyone, from the front desk to the nurse who walked me to my relative, drove me through the whole process, in a kind, professional, and courteous way. I have nothing to say but recommend this place to my friends and everyone else. This beautiful people is gonna take care of you from they hearts.

  • Elaine Batson

I have found since St Joseph’s is now under Ascension the service is horrible. The third party customer service is not an efficient way to do business. The customer service people you speak with are no longer at the hospital and they have to reach out to the hospital or clinic staff first when before the patient could call and speak with department or clinic staff directly. This leads to miscommunication and is waste of time for the patient. This new system needs to be reevaluated.

  • Jacqueline Neiman

I have some issues that require a team of doctors. Each is compassionate and clearly communicates with me. Whenever I've had an outpatient procedure, I've found everyone involved, from the admittance clerks to the surgical team competent and kind. The most important factor for me is that I am able to reach my doctors' offices directly, without having to endure a call center for the entire system. I've been a St. Joseph's patient almost my entire adult life and intend to remain so.

  • Magda Favale

I took a 2 hour lunch to complete the covid 19 test. I had to leave as I was there for 30 minutes and not a single person was called. There were 4 individuals in front of me. I also had to cancel the pulmonary test scheduled for Friday, as they need a vivid test results. All my life St Joseph has been nothing but 5 stars. The last 3 times I've been for different tests, I noticed the service is not the same. I hope it is a temporary situation, I don't want to change hospitals.

  • Jan figueroa

I was admitted to 10 floor after surgery for hip replacement. From beginning to end I couldn't have been treated better. Young was my day nurse, Sarah was my night nurse. I don't remember everyone's name, sorry about that because they all deserve recognition. Hospital work is very demanding, but everyone that was part of my care team, PT, OT, Dietary were the best. I would not hesitate for a moment to return to St. Joseph Hospital for my medical needs. Love you guys♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

  • Angela E.

This emergency room experience made me terrified of ERs. I have genuinely never been treated so horribly. I was in a lot of pain, saying "someone, anyone, please help!" over and over and over while being ignored. I got dizzy, I was too shaky to fill out the forms and in frustration and pain dropped the clipboard and started crying. A nurse came out and YELLED AT ME THREATENING TO HAVE ME REMOVED for "throwing" the clipboard. That was the only human interaction I had.

  • joseph valdivia

Went to pick up a patient who had back surgery. Nurses were rude and more concerned about their chicken dinners than courteous professional behavior and the smooth release of the patient. They never informed me until the very last minute concerning the time and day the patient was being released. I told the Patient to let them know I would be there within two hours of the notification. When I arrived earlier they complained to the patient I spoiled their chicken fest

  • Kenneth Costan

Had a gastric endoscopy scheduled today at Amita-Health, all the way in Chicago. First they tell me I'm not on the schedule and try to ask me if I can come back, I tell them absolutely not. Then when they get me in the OR they tell me its delayed because of my insurance, when in fact I was sent to this hospital because its the only one that would accept my insurance. Then they start pushing me back from my scheduled time at 8am, to 10:30, 12:00, and 2:00.

  • Suzanne Reade

Through family and friends I have had the opportunity to experience many of Chicago’s hospitals. Amita, perhaps in large part because of the Catholic orientation, does not try to impress with fancy public spaces. The focus is on providing very capable, truly caring staff members who enjoy interacting with patients and improving their health. If you are eating there I recommend the vegetable omelette and baked apple slices.

  • Stomacoil Dry Mouth Remedy

Terrible facilities, treatments and attitude. Went to ER and waited 2.5 hours to get to a room after being told I need to be admitted. Small hot closed off room where the tV didn’t work and they didn’t answer my call for assistance after two hours staring at the walls unable to breathe. They were not busy. Went to another ER that day and got effective urgent care and admitted to a room within an hour to start treatment.

  • Michele OLeary

I have never had a bad experience at this hospital. My physical therapist Virginia Mora is exceptional in every respect and my pain management doctor Dr Rivzi is compassionate and professional. My doctor Dr Lee has been my Doctor since 1996 and there are no words to describe him-I would surely be dead without him. Everyone on the nursing and scheduling staff and the people who clean the room have been great

  • Paula Milhizer

I enjoy going to St. Joseph's testing center on 331 Surf St. in Chicago. It is easy to register on your phone, and the people are very pleasant and helpful. Although I waited 35-40 minutes before I realized my name wasn't being called. I went back to the desk and asked if I was in the right place. The fellow immediately fixed the situation, and my test took place 45 minutes late, but corrected immediately.

  • MaDonna Belvo

I stayed a week in the Diamond Headache Unit. The care I received was outstanding. The Drs., PA-C’s, nursing care, Nursing aides, psychology department, pharmacy staff, nutrition services, food service, health unit coordinators were amazing and helped me get through a difficult week for me. They met my every need. I am so blessed to have been taken care of by such an incredible team. THANK YOU!!

  • tanja husic

Every time I come to the Cancer Center on the 1st floor, before I even see my dr. (Dr Kozma-would highly recommend) , there is a young man drawing blood. His name is Chris G. Such a positive person, very skilled at his job, always tinely and professional, serene and optimistic. I wish there are many more people like him all over, but especially at the places of care, such as this one. dKozma i

  • Joey

If like waiting long wait times, and being treated rude and it being hot with no temperature control and also them never having beds available go here. Also you get the dog food they serve You now you have no menu choics you get what you get Edwards was going to build a hospital here God I wish they did I don't know how saint Joe's figured out how to block it from being builtbut it's terrible

  • Valerie J

Best Hospital ever! I had surgery two days ago I had the best care ever! They were very compassionate! Every nurse and doctor that I had took very good care of me they were very kind/nice and friendly. Made sure I felt comfortable and most importantly the least pain as possible. I will forever be grateful for everything they did for me!! ! Thank you everyone at St. Joseph Hospital❤️

  • Marc A

I was asked by my doctor to have a heart ct scan because of my high cholesterol and my age. I called the number given to me and scheduling was so easy. Then on Sept 4 when I visited i was impressed with the cleanliness, efficiency and courtesy of all the staff. The attending nurse was so re assuring and explained everything to me. This is now my hospital of choice

  • Jose Adal Slas

Nurse told me that I was not Jewish because I’m not white I’m brown. She said that she was Jewish and she was certain that I was not Jewish, when I asked her questions she didn’t know the answer for basic Jewish questions.. this is totally wrong. And if you go to the from desk you will find a some sort of police ofrecer screaming and treat you like garbage.

  • Dan Fisher

Outpatient surgery center is the best I have ever seen. I was never left alone, especially after surgery. Pain meds were administered immediately, the nurses there are so awesome!!! They were so caring, concerned, and genuinely wonderful. Always checking to see if I was ok, explaining everything they were doing, just the best experience ever with surgery!

  • Laura D. C.

Overall my experience was good in the Emergency room. Staff was friendly and understanding, with the exception of one doctor. Dr. Parr was rude and disrespectful, she had no bedside manner/etiquette. She came in to ask me what was going on; I began to explain my symptoms and she started walking out as I was still talking. Terrible way to treat a patient.

  • Durshun Shah

Rita and Maira were both extremely lovely! Made me feel especially cared for throughout my stay. I did not appreciate the discussion about staff morale and turnover while getting settled into my room and beginning my treatment - it was poorly timed and unsettling. Wish there was more consistency between AM and PM shifts when it comes to professionalism.

  • Sheldon Levenbrook

If you’re referring to where I had my Covid test ER the staff was great but the environment was dark and depressing the space needs to be remodeled in addition body temperature was never taken. For outpatient surgery that’s a whole different picture and a different building everyone was very nice and the environment was bright and up to date.

  • Diane Kuta

I'm glad my doctor, Mark Vexelman, recommended Amita's Center for Orthopedics & Specialty Care to help me relieve the pain I felt. My therapist, Virginia Mora, has 18 years experience and makes my workouts almost a treat. With each session, I feel more confident that I will soon be able to keep up with my grandchildren!

  • Young Pablozy

I don’t take my time to write reviews but the hospital outdid themselves, from hospitality to respect and consistently assuring you to do the best. The whole over night ER CREW July 30th May God bless y’all and the whole crew that work that worked with me the following day on main floor y’all appreciated bless ya

  • Eva Drake

The security guards are rude. The ER is hit or miss depending on the doctor. Having had to be admitted the nurses were amazing, the hospital clean and neat, even the food was good. However the people doing the cardio stress tests very unprofessional and unfriendly. Otherwise most of the doctors are exceptional!

Last month I had outpatient surgery twice at St. Joseph's and all the Staff were AMAZING!!!! They were very comforting, on top of everything, made sure I was comfortable, administered pain meds efficiently, and I felt safe... For my first surgery, my recovery Nurse Maria A., was the BEST!!!!!!!

I highly recommend this hospital to anyone!! The wait for the ER was literally minutes. I got in right away. The doctors and nurses are very pleasant and take VERY good care of you. I don’t live anywhere near this hospital but I will drive the distance just to have their medical care!

I received stellar care at Amita St. Joseph's Hospital. My entire care team was spectacular. I had one little issue where they forgot to remove the needle from the epidural and the tape surrounding it. I also have visited a few hospitals in Chicago. St. Joseph's is by far the best.

Receptionist to Administration are nice and helpful. They answer my questions and directions. I went to Audiologist for hearing test. This is my second time. Nice and clean hospital. I went to the wrong building. Parking is hard to find around there but they have valet parking.

I was very pleased with the medical care I received, however the parking rules need to be more clearly explained. I was referred to someone to have my parking validated, but she waved me on with no explanation. I ended up paying $18 for parking when it should have only been $5.

As someone who has chronic health conditions, this ER is one of the best ones I’ve been to. Their staff is always kind & they get you in & out quickly. Their nurses go above & beyond. As a fat person, feeling safe & respected at an ER is often not the case, but it is here!

I have been to this hospital more times than I would have liked, and every time I met with terrific, caring doctors, nurses and staff and was treated respectfully and well. I had a 5-day stay in September that turned out well and I was able to communicate with everyone.

Try and call the Billing Dept. and automated system just hangs up on you. Impossible to correct a billing error without spending 5 hours on the phone on a wild goose chase, multiple transfers, new numbers to call, and endless cycles of hold music. Be better.

We loved visiting this hospital. It's in a great area and it's clean and beautiful. There's a lot to do here. You can enjoy the activities on Lake Michigan. There is a chapel on the grounds, too. Some rooms have a great view of Lake Michigan.

Procedure suppose to be at 12:00 noon. Equipment not sterilized. Procedure done 4 hours later. No food beforehand of course. Used to be a good hospital, not any more! Too much money spent on new buildings instead of quality staff!!!

This place refuses routine medical treatments because of their “Catholic beliefs” i thought it was a joke at first but no. They operate in archaic times and ignore the needs of women. Do not support this absolutely awful nonsense.

OMG, What a professional and outstanding hospital and the Service is Supreme. I was seen in a timely manner and everyone's personalities were marvelous. I absolutely love my hospital Doctor choices; Great, Great, Great People.

The staff was very nice and patient. They explained everything to me. I am fresh from a surgery and they assisted me with all my needs. Nurse Alaina was the best as well as Kate, Rita, and Yolanda from housekeeping.

When I arrived on the 3rd floor to check in the person who checked me in did not greet me nor did she ask me for my name. She just asked me for my date of birth. I felt as though I was not. Important as a patient.

Most of my time was spend on the 9th floor in a specialized care unit. They also have another floor dedicated to addiction treatment as well as a maternity ward. Lots of beautiful babies to see going home.

I arrived on time and was registered and taken back for my ultrasound within a few minutes. The test was scheduled for 9am and I had the results of the test by 10:30. It was easy, fast and safe.
