Went in with a broken collarbone. The doctor said (without even looking or testing range of motion or asking me a single question) that it was dislocated. I could feel and see the bone protruding. They told me to go get Motrin and give it a couple weeks. I demanded X-rays. The X-ray showed it was broken as well as my elbow. Then they again told me to leave and buy Motrin. This was from a scooter crash I had open abrasions all over me and they didn’t even treat anything not even a bandaid. As I was leaving in excruciating pain I was screaming and holding up my own broken arm (no cast no sling, nothing) while the doctor, the horrible good awful nurse, and 4 other staff members stood within 5 feet of me and no one helped at all. The nurse just told me be quiet and the security people laughed at me. No discharge paperwork. Just turned me loose humiliated with a snapped collarbone. Going to Midwest today hopefully get some of this treated. I’ve never been treated so dangerously and recklessly in my life. That hospital is filthy and the ER needs to be shut down. That nurse has no business dealing with patients. And if those are doctors, I’m Oprah Winfrey.
My mom was in the ICU for a cardiac arrest this hospital I do not believe specializes in cardiac arrest. The the resident doctors told me my mom was brain dead without sufficient proof they did no scan to prove she was brain dead and keep insisting on me signing a do not resesitate. when I asked for additional test the doctor told me that I couldn't afford certain tests and it be expensive. when my cousin who is studying to be a neurologist spoke to doctor she's called him a minority because we are latino! The front emergency room department is rude and I couldn't even get the transfer for my mother because they refused to transfer her becuase of there lack of care. So now I have no option to deal with this place and icu was rude to family members as well. Icu had many deaths and it seems as if they really dont care about saving lives. My mother died after this post and I feel they were negligent also a man next to her died as well because when they were given him a defibrillation the staff nurses dropped him on the floor. Terrible hospital that kills people of color because we can't afford it!
The intake lady made me go back outside to where there was a box of masks, even though I was definitely a fall risk, as if I was visiting a doctors office and not the emergency room. I then sat there and signed a ton of paperwork even though I could barely hold a pen. And while I was in the exam room still waiting to see a doctor, she came back to collect payment. I cannot stress this enough, the intake lady was awful. I was lightheaded, dizzy, my arms were numb, I was naseus, my heart was racing, and I couldnt breathe. I was having a severe adverse reaction to a new drug that I just took for the first time. With this knowledge, the ER doctor concluded I was just having night terrors. That was after waiting 3 hours to see her. I do want to acknowledge the EKG guy and nurse, Ian and Ahmed (I think). They were wonderful, but I won't be back. Who knows what would've happened if I accepted that ridiculous diagnosis and took my medication again.
My dad was admitted to the ER and then to the third floor. He is unable to talk or move. The staff seemed to be avoiding patients. I was in the room with my dad for four hours and the nurses rarely checked on him. I pressed the nurse button several times, but it took about 25 minutes for someone to come in. I finally walked out of the room and looked around. A few nurses saw me and I pressed the button again. Then they came in. When I asked the nurses questions, they seemed like they didn't want to be there. My questions about my dad were disregarded and unanswered. A male nurse said he would get back to me, but it's been four hours and I still haven't heard from him. The staff is super rude when I ask simple questions, like how many visitors are allowed in the room. One guy just said, "I don't know, ask the nurses." This is a terrible experience. The staff seems like they don't want to work.
This review is for the women's health center. I was a patient of Dr. Butler-Mooyoung. Her nurse frankly is not very competent. I spent 10 minutes with her on the phone trying to explain a simple issue in a way that she could understand and take a proper note on. It then a full week for me to get a "response" on a very urgent message regarding my health. I messaged her and the doctor online as well as called them several times just to be told that I would have to make another appointment for an inquiry that can easily be taken care of over the phone. The inquiry was a simple birth control question. I cannot afford to make an appointment every time I have a question, nor do I have the time to constantly be taking off work for appointments. I will be going somewhere with more competent staff and compassion towards their patients. So frustrated and disappointed.
I expected this to happen in the near future; but still taken aback tonight in Weiss' ER. I give 1 star for a wait time under 12 hrs, I give 1 star for the pleasant personnel. I give nothing to the nurse who smelled like he was vaping. He disconnected the IV without clamping it, got the fluid everywhere including my street clothes. I jumped up and told him to get away from me, and that I wanted another nurse. It's sad to see people get addicted to marijuana. Willing to jeopardize their jobs, their homes, families, etc. This nurse or could be responsible for a life and he can't come to work without getting his high on!! Completely inexcusable. I went to Weis due to chronic illness and thought it best to not wait until Monday. I won't make that same mistake again.
My 88 year old mother took a fall and was taken to Weiss Hospital. My expectations were low because of the location of the hospital. It was the best experience I have ever had with a hospital. The communication with every team of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, caseworkers, etc was so quick and efficient. Every test, scan, etc was done immediately (no waiting) and the results were reported back quickly via a direct phone call to me. The staff is friendly, kind, and supportive. The hospital is clean and orderly. Being a University of Chicago teaching hospital means there is a lot of support staff. The hospital is not over crowded at all. My mother’s stay at Weiss Hospital was a 10 out of 10. I commend the hospital for their standard of excellence.
An ER doctor attend to my mother one time. She’s asthmatic and was going through lung problems. My mother was crying out for help and the nurses kept telling my mother to be quite. And then soon after that, the doctor had security take my mother outside while she was in a wheelchair and left her outside… I’m not going into details on what happened after. This hospital is poor and have bad doctors. They don’t care for your well being. It’s just a job for them really but they treat you like you don’t matter. Don’t go here.
The worst hospital I’ve ever been to. The nurses are lazy, the doctors are clueless, & it’s not a good experience being there at all. Don’t go to the ER because they won’t take good care of you. I was never a patient here at Weiss but had relatives there & it was very stressful because they don’t care fire patients like they should. A lot have to change here like attitudes & providing better care for the people that is less fortunate than others. Quality over quantity.
Horrible. The staff is inappropriate and unprofessional. Trying to be seen by someone was a 5 hour wait. (Tried to give the benefit of the doubt as they are clearly understaffed). When I was finally able to get checked out the doctors wouldn’t even give me the time of day to answer my questions, ultimately ending in me spending thousands of dollars on unnecessary testing. I would’ve rather google my symptoms and listened to that advice instead.
Easily the least competent hospital I have ever dealt with. Everything from their appointments to their recordkeeping is a nightmare. You'll have to call several times before they'll even pick up, and then they'll redirect you to the wrong department (this has happened 3 times) so you have to keep starting over. The operators have limited English skills so everything will be harder than it needs to be. Just avoid this hospital at all costs.
The worst experience, the attention is horrible they make you wait for hours, to be honest I would prefer die before go to this hospital. In addition I need to pay for my hospital bill and they gave a phone number where they told me they don’t have any information about me, and still I’m reading my medical bills in my box email.. I feel frustrated with this people… I never come back again to this hospital..
Weird experience with the reception. My dad was in ICU at the time. I called to check on him and it was New Years day. Thr lady said " Weiss memorial. Happy New Year" I said may I have the ICU please? Long pause then a snarky voice says " I SAID happy new year" Clearly not everyone is having a happy new year and to be insulted i didn't even think of it when a family member is in ICU was extremely childish.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A $0 BALANCE. I happened to move after my ER visit at this hospital, didn’t receive any of the co insurance bills left on my balance. Then boom i check my credit and it’s down THREE HUNDRED POINTS. Over not even $1k really? The care wasn’t even worth it, i waited in an empty ER waiting room for 20min throwing up & they hardly checked on me after.
The ER is terribly maintained. Don’t have enough actual rooms so some patients are placed in chairs alongside the wall. Also the staff discusses other patient health information out loud so we were able to hear a lot of details regarding other patients- not sure if that violates hippa but we definitely heard things that we wish we didn’t.
I always have such great interactions with nurses and staff here. I had a surgery done recently and felt so comfortable and cared for. Very thankful for the team I had in my side. Even with new nurses, registration, and the clean-up crew I run into walking in the halls, they never fail to make me smile. Thank you
Weiss is an amazing hospital place to work with. We have built a strong working relationship with their Case Management and Social Services team. They are very professional and very hands-on with their patients. More power to this group. They’re being lead by a great leader. (Dana F.)
I was working late today and when on parking lot, I realized I don’t have my car keys. The cleaning crew were in my Radiology department and located the key immediately ( it was close to 6-6:30 pm). They just made my Friday! All of my coworkers are great. Many thanks again!
Weiss is excellent in many ways, with many dedicated professionals. In the past couple of years I was a patient there. I observed many areas where improvements could be made. For all patients, I especially hope this is done for the greater community.
The best community hospital on the N side of Chicago. Wait time s reasonable. Staff were friendly and know what they r doing.
