Another brilliant visit to the Black Horse pub! Their Sunday lunches really are the best around, everything is always so fresh and delicious and presented well. Service is fast, but there can sometimes be a wait particularly given how busy Sundays are, but that’s to be expected. Being local, I visited not longer after opening last year and it’s just gone from strength to strength, which is a credit to everyone involved. It’s the ‘go to’ place in Otley for great ales, amazing food and even better staff, all of which are very attentive and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them, particularly Beth & Louie who epitomise this. The manageress, Jen, leads by example, setting high standards and is always so accommodating and welcoming. Otley was crying out for a local warm family orientated pub and this place delivers in the bucketload. They put on great events and live music and I’m excited to see this place continue to grow and becoming an even bigger asset to the community.

For many years the Black Horse has stood proud on its corner in the centre of Otley. Imposing from the outside and full of architectural delight once you enter via the tiled foyer and on through the doors, this hostelry will not disappoint. There is a small step at the front which makes pushchair and wheelchair access difficult but an entrance from the rear courtyard, down the right hand side of the building, gives excellent access. Once inside you will wonder at the decor and begin to appreciate that this is a major part of Otley's rich history. Jess and her staff have recently taken over the premises and transformed the atmosphere with their warm welcome. A good range of drinks are complimented by a very tasty menu board choice which changes regularly. Visit here once and it will become your regular choice of venue,

50 pounds of food wasted; lovely weekend (8/5/2022) with friends ruined; still no clarification from management so far (25/10/2022) despite several calls, voicemails and this feedback. Total incompetence of the manager, that also tried to put the blame through an employee on the cleaning lady, the only helpful person there - so shameful- as she avoided to meet us in person in the afternoon. Moreover, the room is overpriced as: there are too few towels there is no hearing you can regulate the mugs are dirty there is mould on the windows and too rumor from the road shower's drain is not working properly so you must stop halfway to prevent the room from being floaded Better sleeping in your car than there.

Stayed here for 1 night whilst visiting friends in the area, I thought I was booking in to a typical pub Bed & Breakfast but this place is fantastic! The staff were more that helpful, the room I stayed in was very clean and bright with all the facilities one would expect. There is a small car park on site which is very useful as it is right on Otley market square and just seconds waking distance to pretty much everything Otley has to offer. It would be hard to fault this hotel as most things you would require have been catered for. Would recommend a stay at the Black Horse.

New ownership, very friendly staff and great food! Unplanned visit after being let down at another venue, but we were immediately found a table for group of 7 and a high chair. Was very pleasantly suprised at the great quality food. The menue isn't huge but there is a good selection of dishes, everyone in our party found something to their taste. All food cooked to perfection with bags of flavour and big win my book. Reasonably priced definitely recommend, will be back.

Went for a Birthday meal, staffwere very polite and really helpful we were served by a girl called Olivia, I could see she was really busy but took it in her stride, very polite and helpful, the food was excellent I ordered the fish pie it was second to none, my wife had the Steak and ale pie and said it was delicious, compliments to the chef. I would recommend anyone to visit

This place is excellent! It's Wetherspoons but way better, their food is outstanding and the service is amazing. The atmosphere is enjoyable and the look of the pub is the best. The staff are so polite and well mannered and resentful. With covid they have the rule of 6 and staff wearing masks not only that but the place is spotless!

A small hotel like pasaar perfect as a steroid type for a British small town hotel. The rooms are quite small and the decor is old-fashioned. Carpets and old gadgets everywhere. The hotel bar is good and staffed most of the day. Amenities such as irons etc. are available on request. Suitable for those who want to live in the country, a bit like in a TV series and also experience local pubs.

Just a lovely place to spend a few hours. Brilliant selection of beers (not just Kirkstall Brewery). Food is decent too. Special mention to the staff who go beyond just pulling your pint. Try and leave without a friendly 'thank you and goodbye'! Large yard at the rear which gives a great atmosphere when full. WiFi, very dog friendly, walkers welcome even with muddy boots! Solid 5 stars.

  • Timmy Wilkinson

Lovely place for lunch in Otley. They have a selected menu on due to covid which still had great options for everyone. Usually they have a few more vegan options but at least they had vegan cheese for the pizzas and the pizzas are large!! The fish and chips were really large too. Quality food and quality drinks straight from Kirkstall Brewery. Thanks guys had a really nice afternoon!!

Not been back to Black Horse in over 5 years.... Just got to say WOW!! What a positive change. Amazing service and looked after so well by Morgan and Abi (sorry if spelt incorrectly). 3 of our party are/were bar owners and really impressed with the service. Cannot recommend visiting or staying here enough.

Attended a friend's party there last weekend and had a great time. The decor is a little tired and a few niggly things during the night but they were remedied. I was told that the bedrooms were nice but unfortunately no breakfast provided. On the whole, the team are going in the right direction

We had a great night except all the men had to queue for 1 toilet. I asked if they could open the disabled toilet, the answer was No, only disabled people have a key. Then learnt that a chap, who was desperate for the toilet, nipped into the ladies, and was escorted out by security staff, neither of which wear masks. Ridiculous over the top reaction.

This was our first visit since the new management took over and I must say I enjoyed the food, even though it was a little bit of the 'posh' side. The staff were lovely and friendly and helped us with all our needs and gave great advice for our next visit as the mother in law prefers her veg 'well done'. The meat and gravy were sublime.

  • Simon Hewitt

Came here for a meal for the first time. I had the Sunday roast and I really enjoyed it. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portion size is quite big. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere here was really nice. I would highly recommend this pub not only for a drink but also to try the food.

  • Matt Whittle

Excellent pub run by Kirkstall brewery and Brudenell social club. The bar has a good selection of cask and keg (Kirkstall and guests). Food is fantastic and does rotate seasonally (recently had a minted pea burger and it is great, for Sunday dinner there is veggie and vegan option to satisfy everyone.

I only call in for a coffee now and again which is lovely, one of the best made with oat milk in Otley I think, the food always looks nice so will definitely eat in there at some point, I like the look and feel of the pub, got a old look which I love when in a old historic town like Otley. More

Great lunch. Great beer. Friendly staff. I was there for the folk festival and they'd clearly not anticipated demand. Folkies like ale and lots of it . Courtyard as a venue really really worked so looking forward to next year. (I'll be back for lunch in between. Next Otley visit hopefully )

  • Bec Gilray

We came for a drink, it's a nice enough pub and sells a good variety of drinks. It isn't particularly cosy and it's a bit of a Warren of rooms. That's not a bad thing as you can be away from the hustle of the main bar. Toilets were clean and prices were good. Just lacked atmosphere.

  • John Weatherill

The Black Horse is a lovely old building, with an inviting feel to it. We were in for a drink on Saturday evening and although it was quiet (everywhere was on Saturday) you didn't notice it. Good service at the bar, can't comment on the rooms or food. Would go again.

  • Mark Tunnicliffe

Good to see the Black Horse open again; hopefully more long term than previous attempts in recent years! A great range of beer from Kirkstall Brewery alongside some other interesting drinks. A bit noisy (for me) but then if it were quiet, it would shut, so....

  • Howard Dadge

Great atmosphere for the England v Germany game. Obviously very busy but a 45 minute wait before I got my first pint was poor. Thankfully Morgan one of the staff was great after that and service was much better from him.

I wish Kirkstall brewery well. They have breathed a breath of fresh air into this long established hotel. They have refreshed the interior and serve a good range of beers and serve good food. Plans for beer garden, functions in the rear courtyard.

  • Mark Cordingley

Well organised and safe in the courtyard but can get a bit cool in poor weather well located in the centre of town car park oposite

Great pub venue with lovely surroundings and great choice of beer. Good bar staff - but OH the prices of the wine! £18 a bottle? For a pub? Someone is having a laugh. Sadly looks like the last visit from our group of 9.

Lovely staff but the vegan pea burger was so disgusting; really disappointed as the rest of the food sounded great but we wouldn’t come back based on what we had. If you can’t get a burger right...

Otley has several great pubs / bars and this is one of them! Serving great beers in a cosy, dog-friendly environment. Probably serves otherngreat drinks. No idea about food.

  • Tracey Godwin

Kirkstall brewery now own this pub and they have renovated it without ruining it. They sell their own range of beers as well as a few rotating real ales. They also do food.

  • Kevin Gay

Very friendly bar staff good selection of local ales, a big place loads of different seating areas decoration is marvelous all the original features have been restored

My wife and I stayed here in one of the rooms. Very clean. Decor is a bit old fashioned but it's obviously been done to retain the character of the period property.
