I decided to check out Babette's bakery again, to see whether it had improved since the last time I was there. I am happy to say yes. I ordered a flat white, and it was beautiful. A skilled batista had made it, from top to bottom it was smooth an silky and wonderfully pleasant. Perfect place for a tranquil coffee date. I thought I would try something from their baked goods for the day. I chose their cheesecake. It is not your normal cheesecake, so for those who seek a sugar free almond flour cheesecake - Babette's is where you can get it , freshly made. It is very light and airy and makes you feel absolutely no guilt to eat it. A unique taste. It comes with a berry compote , and a dollop of either cream or ice cream. The only thing I would want to improve in the cheesecake, is the crust and the density, both to be slightly thicker or more prominent. What I can day though is that it is not any kind of assault to your body or stomach. It is gentle and paletteable and unique in the way that its not just anywhere that one can eat an almond flour cheesecake which is also sugar free. I would definitely like to return to try something else on the menu. Over a few months this place has improved tremendously. The staff included. I walked out feeling good and that it was worthwhile going there. See you soon!

As a customer who had high hopes for this establishment, I must say I was let down. Despite the glowing reviews, my takeaway experience fell short of expectations. The gluten-free roasted chicken mayo toastie, which carried a hefty price tag, was disappointingly small (bread and chicken mayo filling) and lacking in flavor. To make matters worse, no sides were included. Although I am willing to pay a premium for quality, this meal simply did not meet my standards. That being said, there was one bright spot in an otherwise lackluster experience: the flourless chocolate cake was truly exceptional. I applaud the bakery/coffee shop for this standout item. As a specialized purveyor of gluten-free fare, I was surprised to find that there were no gluten-free buns or English muffins on offer. Given the impressive gluten-free selection at Woolworths, I expected more from this establishment.

My first time here today, lovely setting. Pity I will not return. Cappuccino was cold, I ordered a roast chicken and mayo ( does not come with salad nor chips) I was actually quite hungry only to take a bite in what was probably the oiliest toasty I have had, when I mentioned this, I was told it was the homemade mayo! Clearly too much oil used, I was compelled to order a salad to balance my meal, never finished the toasty, no apology merely an excuse .No masks worn by staff when it is mandatory made me uncomfortable. I don't care what doctor told you that you need not wear one it is mandatory and you were advised wrong!.

  • Seryosha Padayachee

Very poor service from waitresses, we were ‘forgotten’ or most likely de-prioritized. I had to call the waiter over to order (while they were chatting at the counter), ask for sauce, order an additional item for my kid, and I asked for the bill THREE times! They are low-energy, slow-action and grumpy each time I’ve been there over the past year. And when I paid today, she still asked if I’d like to leave a tip. It’s the same 3 ladies that I’ve seen there over the past year, and I’ve visited at least 4 times hoping each time the service would improve. This time was the worst service hence the review.

Beautiful bakery and brunch spot. Wonderful gluten-free options are available, more than most. Carrot cake is delicious, and flowerless chocolate cake is not too sweet, just perfect. Lovely outside seating for any weather.

Tried again, as our first time was right off the back of lockdown covid so definitely not a time to judge people in a tough spot. Today however still left us blurgh. Tea was luke warm. Ordered food and advised about avo surcharge - not a problem but was then told 10+ minutes later there was no avo anyway. Time was short so just had a breakfast muffin. Unfortunately it could have been a sunlight essence muffin. Soapy bicarb overload. Waitrons looked fed up. The manager looked peeved with it all. Service felt like pulling teeth. The car guard was absolutely lovely. She got the tip.

  • Jani de Wet

One of our favourite brunch/lunch spots in Somerset West. The fireplace makes for such a lovely atmosphere on cold winter days, and the tables under the pergola are the best for hot summer days. Just love this place. Only downside is the parking is always full and/or very tight.

Great little find - good food, gluten free options - fresh juices etc. The day we visited for breakfast, it was very busy - my only complaint is that when busy, they can be very slow - took over an hour to get our breakfast. Overall, a place well worth a revisit. Revised: I have revisited the coffee shop, and the owner apologised to me personally - they had an unusually busy time over Christmas due to all other establishments in the area being closed. I am extreme me satisfied with the service today - and happy to report the service and food is outstanding.

I love this little eatery in our town. Our book club meets there regularly. The food is excellent, and excellent value. I find portions a little bit small and would happily pay more for a bigger portion. It always catches me by surprise when I'm told been told that don't stock Sweetners for hot beverages. I now carry my own, just for cappuccino at Babette's...

Ah my favourite little spot in town! It's small, cute, cozy and has secure off-street parking right outside. I go there mostly for their food offerings. I love their farm-to-table approach to their menu and I honestly feel I can hear my cells thanking me for the good nutrition I'm installing as I eat. In winter their little closed fireplace makes the place warm and snug. In summer you can sit outside on the patio. The staff are friendly and attentive and the coffee is also amazing. My favourite menu items are the burger stack and the pesto

  • Carolyn “Carriesue” Naude

Extremely hot inside. There were not enough fans to cool down the place which I think is wrong because the owner should surely know how hot it becomes in this vicinity during the summer months! I couldn't wait to leave! On top of the heat, the savoury muffin which I ordered was so dry that it was tasteless!! On the whole, a disappointing unbearably hot bakery!!

Had coffee and a scone with my wife , coffee was good but scone was half raw , tasteless and hard to swallow . We informed the staff and manages came to our table to apologize but they still charged us full price . It’s really unacceptable , they had a chance to fix it , they did not , not only do I give them a one star for the food , but I will never support them again .

Nice, French style cafe. It is a little pricy, bit does have a good atmosphere. Low rating is because of the extra charge for alternative milk. This is unnecessary, if a small place like the Wild Eatery doesn't need to charge extra then neither do they. Let's take into consideration the real cost of our choices and not just the financial cost. If you are going to charge extra for milk, then charge the same for all milk options.

I like this place actually went a few times, however would not recommend as on my last visit my friend and I were chatting spent about an hour there (we had ordered both coffee and something to eat ) and then were very rudely asked to leave by the owner because she needed the table. She just slapped the bill down on our table and said I need this table, if you want to chat you can sit outside. *I was at the Andries Pretorius street / St James on the 28th of October around 9:30 ish

Babette's is a gem!! ✨ From the exquisite flavors and generous portions to the charming setting, every aspect is carefully thought through and beautifully executed. I'd like to make a special mention to the manager Sericha, who just elevates the experience and always that extra mile to ensure the experience is a positive one.

While the setting was very beautiful, and the food was good, we were very uncomfortable that not a single member of staff (management or servers) were wearing face masks. This was especially concerning as the staff members often gathered around the counter between the kitchen and restaurant- waiting for meals to be prepared, speaking without masks to one another, over the food. Although a lovely place - we wont be returning until proper covid measures are in place.

  • Debbie Schwemberger

Such a lovely quaint place, so it was such a pity that the service was so poor. We waited for ages for service and then for our food and drinks. The coffee was good and most of the food not bad at all, but the sandwich came with very little filling and no butter. I told the Manageress and she was surprised that this was a problem. We had to ask for butter for the other toast as well. There is so much potential with just better service and attention to detail.

  • Dave “SassyPants”

Poor coffee on par with poor service I had a business coffee here today, the coffee is acrid and the machines clearly need a service. My waitress was no where to be found forgot things I ordered and was generally inattentive. I was never offered a drink. I also had the eggs Benedict which made me sad. White bread is no substitute for an English muffin and the hollandaise was cold... Probably came out a jar. Will be avoiding this place in future

  • Steve B

had over 100 meals at Babette's, and all 100+ were from great to very good. I say very good because eggs on toast can only be so "good", but the lamb curry and chicken wraps are fantastic, and the food is healthy. If the last two years have taught us anything, be healthy (Babette's does not serve coca-cola, it is bad for you), and I agree. I don't drink it and neither do my kids.... get healthy and go eat at Babette's

Babette’s is my go-to local bistro for deliciously tasty food prepared with freshest seasonal ingredients and served with care. The on premises bakery items are to die for. For those just wanting to pop-in the cappuccinos are superb. Menu items are great as takeaways for those ‘I don’t feel like cooking’ days. I love the unpretentious ambience and friendly vibe and knowing I won’t be disappointed.

  • Delita Otto

Always a lovely experiencing. The courtyard is full of the happiest plants and has a magical, tranquil vibe, for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the town. All produce is of the highest quality, sourced with care, and the food is delicious. Amazing gluten-free alternatives available. I keep going back for the rose geranium cordial on hot days, and the tasty gluten-free, buckwheat muffin.

The best coffee in Somerset West. This restaurant has moved down the road from Chelsea village into a more beautiful setting at Frames and Things, with a lovely garden setting where you can enjoy a glass of your favourite wine as well. The old favorites, plus a few new additions on the menu makes for a great breakfast or lunch .Lovely friendly efficient staff, in a beautiful setting .

  • Francoin Visser

Waited more than half an hour for 2 toasted sandwiches, a coffee and a smoothie, while the table next to us that ordered 15 minutes after us received their food in a timely manner before ours arrived. Prices on the bill did not match the menu prices - with the bill being around 15% more than the menu prices. Food and drinks were OK, but the experience aftertaste unfortunately not.

  • Tizane Barber

Very disappointed in the service and entire experience. Went there for a Mother’s Day breakfast. Sat outside but felt very forgotten. Server was not friendly and forgetful. Took long to order our drinks. Food comes in small portions and expensive for what is given. No COVID protocols were put in place, no masks warn by the servers. Would not recommend this place.

  • Richard Hose

Hidden gem for sure! The atmosphere was pleasant & relaxing. The food is fresh & tastes great… had the toast been a little thicker, it may not have been so absolutely hard. I’ll be back, but may avoid the toast next time.

Don’t order the breakfast. Expensive for the low quality food and small quantity. I had a BLT that was a cheap hamburger bun, small pieces of bacon, tomato slice, some avo, and a thin layer of sauce. The pictures add more than you get. Not worth what I paid for at all. Not worth eating there again. Maybe the cake is good.

Unfortunately we could not experience the coffee and food of Babette because NONE of the staff were wearing masks or protective wear during the covid19 pandemic. Terribly disappointing. Especially considering how much disruption and financial strain the pandemic has had on the restaurant industry with lockdown.

Cozy, lovely breakfast spot. They have a fireplace inside and provide blankets for guests in winter. Surrounded by a few interesting shops. Best feature: The half-decent Banting bread/Gluten free, which is hard to come by. Downside: Not open on Sundays! Please thumbs up if you found this review helpful :)

  • Angela Lidgett

Overpriced and really slow service, once I finally received my order it was incorrect and the portion was smaller than a snack portion..as this had been recommended it was a disappointing visit. Won't be returning with all the choice of really good coffee shops and resturants in the area.
