I have lived in the Menai area for 37 years now and I have experienced and dealt with many Licensees at The Bangor Tavern, in actual fact we have developed strong relationships over the years and become friends. Incidentally I was in the hospitality industry for 30 years selling wine, so I do qualify to have an opinion about hotel/restaurants with my experience. I would just like to post a review to say the current owners of the hotel are second to none however they have been in the hospitality industry for a very long time over 40 years. The Micola family are the real deal and their son Adam, heading up the business with Mum Amanda have really taken our local hotel to another level. The food, the beverage variety, the service, the new facilities and the aesthetic updates are just wonderful. Anyone that is not happy with the enormous progress of this licensed establishment must have either, lost in the TAB by backing a very slow horse and done their cash on the ponies or maybe wasn’t intelligent enough to enter the correct answers on trivia night and lost. The Tav is extremely user friendly and a great place to spend time with friends. Go and enjoy, my recommendation.

Had our dinner here to try it out for the first time. I had the Nachos with pulled beef and it was pretty disappointing. Had very little pulled beef. Like hardly any. I was picking on it to try find some. Hello beef? You there? Nope. All I kept getting was cheese, sour cream and guacamole. It had nice heat with jalopenos whatever two forkfull I ate. Here's a picture of the Nachos. The Padstow Park Hotel has way better pulled beef Nachos and they're not stingy of the beef either. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the Nachos with pulled beef here. I hope they read this and make a bit of an effort and care with each meal. Hubby had the $40 steak and said it was okay. It was very thin, like as thin as a McDonald's burger patty or a 2min steak and his chips were cold. I do like the ambiance and decor. A lovely local pub for the area for a few drinks and cocktails.

It's a tavern, which normally are a bit lifeless and have no character. This one, however, is actually decent. Big, dog friendly area out the back with tables, benches and booths to sit at while watching sport on the big screen, playing pool on the pool table or listening to some of the genuinely great singers they have on from time to time. Ample parking. Plenty of people dressed nicely on a Saturday night, groups of old and young, male and female. One thing that did make me laugh though the first time I ever went in, I asked for a beer and a coke. The young lady behind the bar poured half the coke into the Schooner glass and then started to fill the rest of the glass with my beer. I had to stop her and say 'Separately'. Never known anything like that before. I found it hilarious, bless her.

WORST PLACE EVER!!!! Do not waste your money on this dump. Corrupt system and boys and girls get kicked out for nothing. They don't know how to run a place, releasing too many tickets for an event and blaming it on capacity/government restrictions when it was really their fault, so they refunded peoples tickets randomly. I paid for a ticketed event which was meant to end at 11pm but instead they kicked everyone out at 10pm, randomly stopping the music and blaming it on a noise complaint. They've done this before, instead blaming it on the speaker being faulty but really just wanting to end their shift early. Seccys were seen dragging people out. Cops came shoving everyone. Extremely disappointing for the DJ's who waited all night to play in front of their friends. Overall, horrible experience and won't be back.

Edit: At 9:30pm, we spoke to the bar manager who advised that if we would like to cancel our meals we could do so which is what we did. They were apologetic about the issue stating they had a 21st they were catering for. The issue we had was that every time we went and spoke to the kitchen (about 4/5 times) they stated our meals were 5 minutes away. If they were honest from the beginning, we could have made the decision to leave at a reasonable time and eat elsewhere. Original: Ordered 7 meals at 7:30pm on a Saturday night for dinner and it's taken over 2 hours for meals to be cooked- still waiting. Absolutely pathetic service and if the total order wasn't so expensive, I'd have walked. Don't waste your time ordering at this pub if you want your meal before Christmas.

We held our son's 3rd birthday party at Bangor Tavern from 10am-12pm on a recent Sunday. It was a perfect venue to have a kid's party. There was heaps of space, and the enclosed back area with the playground made it very easy to keep the kids having fun in one area. Amanda and the Bangor Tavern team were extremely helpful in making it a stress-free occasion for us. They provided delicious platters of food for the kids & adults, and coffees/drinks were readily available. They also allowed us to bring in a small jumping castle and face painter for the kids. I highly recommend the Bangor Tavern if you are looking to host any event, and particularly if there are families & kids attending. It has everything you need and is hassle-free.

Well what can I say about Bangkok Tavern I stopped there a couple of weeks earlier just for a quick beer and didn't realise it had been done up and how much it changed but then again I guess it it's been about 20 years since I've been there we had food delicious absolutely gorgeous bar staff very pretty ladies indeed plus a massive outdoor area pet friendly and your children as well I didn't go into the gaming room so I can't comment on that reasonably priced food it was nice and it was enjoyable ok everyone you should go there relax and have fun I think it's Sunday might have a band or something on their not enough of the old days with the Sunday sash anywhere in Sydney

I’ve been going to Bangor Tavern for close to a decade. It saddens me greatly that the new management is trying to make the Tavern into something completely different. Firstly the new decor looks like it has been refurbished with items from the $2 shop. It is now dog friendly, I am a dog lover, but what about small children and the chances of being bitten or having dinner next to a dog doing a poo. My husband and I would go to dinner 3 x a week at the Tavern but not anymore. Patrons are voting with their feet, their Australian Day turn out was embarrassing, where as for years before hand it was packed. It’s sad, we loved the Tavern

Bought the big kahoona steak $50. 400g black Angus rib eye. I thought yeah buddy this is gonna be a good one. Asked for medium rare and it came crispy. Still tasty. But burnt as.. you know what… So not sure who to blame there. Here for a Mates birthday… as I stare at the 5 other stakes and ask the boys how there ones are looking, 4/5 are well done when they asked for medium rare. Come on chef! My wife got the barramundi which she loved. Must admit I had a bite and it was really good. Bar service and everything else was great. Good music and atmosphere. Probably have a pescatarian cooking in the kitchen though.

I recently had my birthday at the Bangor tavern out the back on the decking area. The night was great the atmosphere was bubbly and everyone had a great time. Kylie helped me organise the food which was beautiful and everyone comment on how lovely it was. There was plenty of food and the staff were very friendly and nothing was a trouble. I could highly recommend the Bangor Tavern for any function as it was wall organised, professional and every thing went as planed. I was more than happy with the whole function and the area was perfect. Patrice

Nice atmosphere, reasonable food, just not value for money. A salad with prawns added ($7 extra for a grand total of 3 average sized prawns) was $29. $19 for a starter of salt and pepper squid, but barely enough on the plate for more than a mouthful. My daughters schnitzel was tough and she barely ate half of it, which is almost unheard of. Barramundi was the pic of the dishes. $108 for 3 mains and a starter. And that is before any drinks. Can definitely find better value money.

This establishment is one of the few that pose a great beer garden atmosphere this side of the Sutherland Shire. The food is good here having no trouble even in busy periods to cater for you and the family. the beer selection is pretty standard but they do have a couple of craft beers on tap. overall good experience even now that it has had some newer furniture since the last couple of years. Could do with fixing the graffiti up in the mens bathroom and lightening up the inside. Great place for an outdoor lunch in the sun on a summers day!

  • Ronald Notmcdonald

I have been going to The Tav for years but tonight they really let me down. I was using my card and a surcharge of 1% was added to the transaction without any signs up on the bar or on the efptos machine itself. The bar staff quoted me a figure expecting me to diligently just tap and go but when I called him out on it and asked him where the sign was stating the surcharge he stated that it was "on the menu". I know its a minuscule amount but with the cost of living the way it is these days it really adds up

  • monica le

Great surprise find. Dropped in for lunch on a Saturday. Chicken Schnitty was succulent and crispy and the mushroom sauce was A+. We also scored their $15/kilo chicken wings special (bourbon bbq sauce) which is usually only on Wednesdays but since they forgot to take the sign down, they let us order it. Staff were efficient and friendly. Beer garden helps makes the experience Covid safer. Great pitt stop on our way to do the Woronora River Bridge Walk (3min drive away). Would definitely come back.

Since the refurbishment, it is a lot more pleasant with a bright modern interior. The staff were very friendly and the food has certainly improved heaps! Really nice place to hang out now, doesn't have that cheap brown pub vibe it used to have :-)

Went for an early Saturday dinner. Atmosphere was good. Lots of families and live music. The play area is not fit for a toddler (only one way in and its narrow and no access for you to keep visuals on them). More appropriate for older kids. Our mains were nice but don't bother with the $15 sticky date pudding which came out cupcake size and not very tasty at all.

I've ordered caribbean Prosciutto prawn $20 for lunch. It took more than 20 minutes and such a small portion, 4 prawns with little bit of rocket at the bottom. When I bite one of them with dark soy sauce which comes with, it was extremely salty. I tried it again without soy sauce still salty. Moreover I've had stomach cramp after ate them. I will be avoiding that place. It ruined my day.

Not a bad place and lots of investment to make it nice inside and out. Main issue is a little expensive (cost the same as a “posh” restaurant we’d been to the day before), and the food was nice but any salad is absolutely dominated by onion. Just huge amounts so you can’t taste anything else for a couple of days. If you order just ask them for less onion, I guess.

The decor and open space definitely makes this place more appealing than your average local pub. Outside area is really nice. Staff are friendly and love that the boss brings his dog in with him! They lose me at their way overpriced menu and very standard food. Wouldn't be my first place for a feed i had options. Could pay half the price to eat at multiple places within a 5 min drive for a better quality meal.

  • Palolo Tolo Faaoloii

The customer service was professional polite and friendly environment. The Bangor Tavern was very neat and tidy even the restrooms were always clean. The food was sizzling hot & fresh and most importantly delicious. They respected the covid rules and applied the restrictions and even kindly reminded customers when needed. Thank you for helping our family celebrate our sons birthday celebration.

  • Tim Dick

The meal was not good value for money. My wife's Caesar salad barely had any bacon or croutons in it and had a cold soft runny egg in it which she avoided. My $27 schnitzel was the size of a Thursday $12 special and was pre-cooked and then warmed up with a slop of salad placed on top of the chips. This place is good at times but today was underwhelming. Understaffed at the bistro and Bar.

  • Peter Barras

Have been coming to Bangor a tavern for a few years for a pub meal but never again food has become so small and terrible quality. This salmon which was 1cm thick, as it was just the end of a salmon tail, obviously cut in half from a normal size and was so dry and over cooked, it was served with a few grains of rice. This cost $33. I put the fork next to the salmon to show how small it is.

  • M P D

Tripping over children and dogs to get to the kitchento pick up a very nice meal. Music is way too loud to talk over, and you can just walk up anywhere to the bar to be served, therefore people jump ahead. This is no place for children in my opinion. The parents get sloshed and the kids are forgotten about. Shame, it used to be good

Marc and Tiana are my favourite bartenders! All of them are always smiling and happy to help. Not often do you go to places where the bartenders are invested in their customers and it makes us as customers feel more welcome to come each week. Bangor tavern is definitely popular and a well known spot because of their bar staff and their security guards. A very happy 5 stars

  • Peter Mandroules

The service at Bangor was superb. The atmosphere was great and the renovations (as I haven't been there for years) looked excellent. A bonus was the entertainment. The staff should be praised for their friendliness and the way they strived to keep everyone happy. I'd recommend this venue!

We had a group booking for 10 of us last week. We paid $100 per head for a $750 bar tab & all you can eat pizza & wings. All we got were 2 pizzas (to split between the 10 of us) and the reasoning was "the chef clocks off now". We missed out on using our whole bar tab, because we were kicked out for "cleaning" before our booking had ended. Won't be back.

  • Sarah Evans

Been going here for so many years and the recipes never change and I hope they don't because everything is unbelievably delicious and affordable. The place itself is always getting updated and the atmosphere is great. The staff members are always delightful to talk to and are of amazing service. Would highly recommend for anyone, really great place :)

  • Sidonia Kristaly

Had the crab meat and shrimp croquettes with cauliflower and eggplant salad. Unfortunately the croquettes were completely tasteless and small in size with only 3 on the plate, the sweetcorn puree was tasteless also, no corn flavour at all. The salad was lovely. I love the food at Bangor tavern but this was a big letdown.

  • Leah Khoury

Staff are friendly enough but the food is very average. They need to learn how to make a Caesar salad as theirs was drowned in dressing, very salty and the lettuce was shredded. I had to send it back and when they made it a second time it was barely different. I mean how hard is it to make a freaking salad!?

Great atmosphere. Food was not served as described. Found beard hair in beef patty (or at least I hope it was a beard hair and not a pube or an arm pit hair). Burger taste was below average. Schnitzel was decent. Would have wished there were side options instead of being forced to take chips.

Went there last night with the family and my daughters friends. Found all the staff were friendly and happy in their work. Food was good and reasonably priced. Had a DJ there and felt like I was back in my youth - awesome night. …

Not impressed. Ordered from the table but did not get notification that food was ready, despite having notifications enabled. Salt and pepper calamari was cool, over cooked and tough. Thai chicken salad was very nice though.

  • Mick Appleyard

Ordered the 300 gram Rump, was given about 150 to 200 gram rump that was dry and hard to finish, then o saw they have a 200 gram rump special the night before so obviously I got that. Burgers are ok but don’t order a steak.

We have a Dementia Outing Group 2 days a week. And have been enjoying luncheons there for the past three years. The Staff treat us with empathy and respect, but the best part is the range of meals at reasonable prices.

  • Jake Kremers

Good pub, friendly staff, dog friendly. Foods regular pub food and beers are standard. Not a great deal to look at except for Friday nights when the sheilas get about and have a few before making tracks to vinyl room.

  • Bridget Duffy

Food is hit and miss, and it gets a bit crowded and noisy. Some standard pub food not available on weekends. Surf and turf with avocado was good, so was the fish and chips, though the last time was a bit average.

  • Debbie Lidbetter

Ordered the steak which was smothered in pepper. I can't eat spicy food and always read the menu carefully to avoid any spices. Very disappointed with this meal. If people want pepper they can add it afterwards.

  • Lauren Dulihanty

Our whole table were all impressed with the meals. T bone was cooked to perfection, Meat lovers pizza was crispy and loaded with toppings and Parmy was huge. All staff were extremely welcoming and friendly

  • Josh Flecknoe

First time I had been back here for a long time but the menu was really basic and not much to choose from. Ended up with the steak sandwich which was ok but not great. Outdoor heaters would have been nice.
