I am deeply disturbed and utterly appalled by the disgraceful treatment I received at this location today. I have been a frequent visitor to this store due to its proximity to my college. However, what occurred during my recent visit was beyond insulting and unacceptable. Upon leaving the store, I was accused of theft and subjected to a degrading search of my personal belongings by a security guard whose actions were blatantly racist. Despite being a loyal customer who has always visited this establishment alone, I was wrongly accused based on a mistaken identity, with the guard claiming I had a history of stealing with a kid—a completely baseless accusation. This experience was not just humiliating but a stark example of discrimination and profiling. The security guard’s invasive actions made me feel violated and deeply embarrassed. It is clear that this location has a pervasive issue with discrimination, evident to other reviewers. (Which are being ignored!!!) The unprofessionalism of this staff is inexcusable. Whoever made the decision to hire such a prejudiced individual must be held accountable for perpetuating an environment that is hostile and unwelcoming, especially to minorities. This behavior has no place in any establishment, let alone one associated with learning and community. I have decided never to set foot in this establishment again, and I strongly advise others, particularly minorities, to do the same until meaningful actions are taken to address these disturbing issues. Discrimination should never be tolerated or brushed aside, and I strongly advise there be immediate steps to rectify this situation and ensure that every individual feels safe and respected within these premises.

Beautiful store, poorly organized. Customer service was nonexistent. I was looking for the Science books section. Customer service lady passed me by, talking on the phone, I asked her for help, but she never came back. There was no one else around, so I decided to ask one of 2 cashiers. Here is a dialogue that followed: Cashier- Science Fiction? Me- No, just Science, Physics, Math etc. Cashier - OK, but we don't sell textbooks . Me- I don't need a textbook, just Science section thank you. Cashier- go to customer service, they will tell you . Me- she's on the phone and she's busy, there's nobody else to help in the entire store, so that's why I figured I can ask you... Cashier- Go to customer service. (After I left, to my back) Well, it's not holidays anymore! " Really?!! It's not holidays anymore? And that's the reason you can provide poor customer service? This is just sad. Turned out, the Science books were stuck all the way back behind Children's books, next to crying babies leaving after children's event...

This is probably my favorite Barnes and Noble in the city. It isn't the largest one (I think the Union Square location takes that honor) but it has some of the friendliest staff and it is in a great location. It has a good selection of books and various knickknacks that are great for gifting. As mentioned, it isn't the largest location (only one floor) but it is certainly big enough and you should be able to find most of what you are looking for. A couple of times a year they put out a large clearance section and you can find some real gems there. The cafe is also great. The baristas and other employees are always very friendly and it is generally not too hard to find a seat (although it does get a little crowded in the winter months and around the time that schools get off since it is near several schools). One thing to note is that it serves Starbucks coffee but it is not actually a Starbucks cafe so your Starbucks gift cards and membership won't work here.

Worst barnes and noble I’ve ever step foot in. Staff was extremely rude, security guard follows you around for AWHILE. I’ve been going to this store for 3 years or more at this point, and I’ve spent a gross amount at this location, and I continue being treated this way. I honestly feel like they discriminate against me, because they’re so attentive to any white customer. I’m a teenager and I guess they assume I won’t be buying anything, but also treat me like a criminal. I’m almost never left alone in this location. :). The cafe isn’t great either. You can hear staff laughing at customers from the seating area, not only that they get audibly angry at customers and raise their voices. Would not allow my Starbucks drink from a different location despite me paying for food at the cafe. I honestly don’t see how they would care, and I’ve been able to bring in drinks before Overall just feels like they like humiliating you

This Barnes & Noble store is one of my favorites. I know they all look the same inside, but there's something very calming about this one. It's never very crowded and there is a Starbucks inside. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I work nearby and I like to go in just to duck in to get a few minutes of peace, see what new books are out, and get a cup of coffee before I head back into work. There are tables near the Starbucks counter where you can sit and eat if you would like to. There's a small selection of food as well as the usual Starbucks drinks. This store is also a good place to stop in quickly for a last-minute gift. There is a really nice assortment of journals and other gifts. I usually go to this particular Barnes & Noble store instead of going to the one closer to my home because it is more relaxing.

This location's racial profiling and blatant discrimination of my classmate is extremely worrying and completely unprovoked. The security guard's assumption of her shoplifting based on her appearance is absolutely horrifying. She felt targeted and deeply disturbed by this encounter, rightfully so. Barnes & Nobles must take accountability for this discriminatory incident and make sure such racist treatment is never repeated towards customers. As a minority, I no longer feel comfortable entering this establishment and will advise others to do the same. Measures must be taken to penalize the employee responsible and train staff to be more respectful and conscious of their customer service.

The Barnes and Noble staffer I engaged with was polite, so the low rating is the fault of the middle-aged black man responsible for closing the front door of the building last Thursday 7/21/22 (but I hope not everyday): he closed the accessible doors first, which doesn't strike me as ADA-compliant (or at least not ethical), rudely muttered "You see me trying to close up here" when I attempted to open the door, and was on his phone viewing nude photos while he blocked one of the two stairwells. Maybe the building management should create a separate icon on Google Maps so they can receive feedback on their staff...

Four floors of books in Union Square for sale or for you to peruse at your leisure. You can spend lots of time in the bookstore browsing and you can go to the magazine area and look at the periodicals there. They have a coffee shop on the periodicals level in case you want to sit down and have a coffee while reading. There is a toy section on the children's floor that is filled with different games and toys but seems out of place in a bookstore. I'm not sure how many books you have to sell in order to pay the rent in this area but that really isn't my problem. I just enjoying hanging out here.

  • Arl3tsie

I go to this store a lot like every other day. The security man is horrible!!! I got followed 4 different times I’ve been here by the same guy. I like this store cause it’s close to my school, I come here to work on my laptop or during breaks. Honestly most of the staff is rude and disrespectful, and have you followed for no reason.. I don’t buy anything in store anymore since I can never find what I want in stock, but I used to spend a lot of money here, but I have a feeling they think I steal cause I walk around a lot.

  • Chris M

It's a good store. Don't get me wrong...go find a local book store instead...but with print media going under just buy a book! Anyway, I'm here for reviews so here we go. It's hard to find. The door is on the side of a building opposite of the windows. You have to find it, go up an escalator, and then you'll be there. Inside, it's pretty big. Lots of kids books and toys. Probably half the store is kids stuff. There's also a big area they use for book signings and lectures. It's pretty cool.

  • Brittany Caceres

Super full all the time. People were sitting on the floor everywhere but when I tried to do the same in a corner the security guard came and was rude. I was confused because I saw him walk past whole groups sitting on the floor. The actual Barnes & Nobles is really nice but not worth the rudeness and selective reprimanding. The seating situation could be nicer instead of having a bunch of seats crowded in one area having them spread out so people can sit comfortably in different areas.

B&N has always been my favorite book store even when Borders was still around. They had more selections to choose from. They were always helpful in getting books they didn't have in stock. Although I do have a Kindle it does not stop me from walking into a B&N if I have the time to peruse the aisles. My experience if you reserve a copy of a book online for store pick-up I normally am able to get it that same day at one of the cash registers. Always a pleasant experience.

  • M& I

This Barnes & Noble is located perfectly, next to the Kellogg's store, the pet shop, theater, Union square Park, it's just great. Also, this may be the largest B&N in Manhattan, with 4 floors of books, unique toys, and games, the cafe, and excellent customer service ready and willing to help on each floor. The selection is excellent and you can normally find what you want here ...it's also surprisingly so well organized, considering they are such a large store.

  • Pet Puppy

Visiting Barnes and Noble stores became a staple activity for me throughout the pandemic because books always calm and nourish my being. Not only do the stores stay open throughout the health crisis under challenging times, Barnes and Noble upped its game providing amazing selection of books and improved store display aesthetics. Cannot do without my delicious Starbucks hot cappuccino and cafe mocha from its signature BN.com app enabled cafes too!

  • DSK1NYC

One of the last places to actually buy a book in person. I can walk around, browse, find new books I may not have known about. They have a huge selection, it's a very large store. Very extensive magazine section also which is nice. Not everything translates well to an iPad. I personally like to hold a book & magazine when I read. I'm not a weirdo, I have books on my iPad/phone also but sometimes it's just nice to turn an actual paper page.

  • Robert

Good Starbucks cafe inside with small tables making them personal. Limited amount of books, but that is because of the size. Some staff are super super helpful, some which I think its the higher up staff like managers aren't helpful and just worried about leaving on time, so don't go their late and expect good help if the managers are there. Other than that i find the place really good place to check out books and to enjoy.

  • Dane Douglas

I'm a college student, and usually during the gaps between my classes, I go here to read comic books. I enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the respectful people, and the friendly staff. The environment is very clean and orderly. Its a great place for parents and their toddlers to play in, with the stores large stroller parking area. In all, this a great place to relax and catch up on readings, with their wide variety of books.

  • Jeffrey Kruger

Great beverage and wine selection. Decent technology section. The security people can be annoying however, not sure if they’re unaccustomed to people purchasing multiple books. Nevertheless they followed me around for 45 mins. I would have this store one star as a result but the books I found I haven’t found in any other b&n. So blah. I made a note of it for the cashier. Doubt he passed it on to management tho.

  • Bea Cruz

Worst starbucks experience I’ve ever had in any city. Staff was insanely rude and unwelcoming. Raising their voices in a rude way when they didnt understand what the customers were saying. Even made fun of my little sister when she was unsure of her order. You can hear them laughing at other customers from the seating area. Definitely does not reach the standards of what starbucks is known for.

Although the store is smaller than the one located at Union Square, staff are more polite and more prepared to work with customers. I've found and amazing tarot- unique I'd say - inspired in Salvador Dali , and an amazing book with the complete works of Michelangelo - priceless! And the granny-lady in the cashier, the noblesse in person! Extraordinarily polite, educated and smart !

  • Kimberly Heideloff

My local B&N was not selling signed copies of a book I needed desperately. The employees there helped me out, put a book aside for me so when they went on sale the next day I’d have one. I called back the next day and they sold it to me and shipped direct to me. I am just so thankful! Thank you to the employees of the Tribeca B&N for helping me get my DISO book.

  • richard chun

How is this place still able to pay rent? Nice to be able to browse, good for kids to have a place, better enjoy it before it becomes extinct. Executives at B&N need to do something fast. Retail experience is lacking and is nothing more than a library at times, with inconsiderate non-customers using it as a library, destroying merchandise.

  • Marion NYC

It’s finally open again! This place has a huge selection of books, toys, gift ideas, magazine and stuff! The place is clean. If you’re looking for a place to grab a snack and coffee while browsing books and magazine in the Tribeca area then this place is a great place. A couple blocks from the WTC area too. Highly recommend this place.

  • C P

Excellent store! I reserved a book here online for in-store pickup. The wait in line was about two minutes. The lady who checked me out recommended two related titles that were very relevant to my purchase. She was clearly very passionate about books and social issues. I highly recommend this location.

  • First Name Last Name

Managers and shoppers BEWARE of individuals promoting MLM scams inside the store. This individual is dressed up nicely and has severe alopecia. Please get this waste of oxygen off your store. He spends his time in the self improvement section of this store but I've seen him on other locations. BEWARE!!

  • Stephen Taylor

The staff was very helpful! I was given hello finding my books quickly and the staff was friendly and you could tell they were passionate about books. The cashier also helped a lot. In the end I left with a membership 'cause it's a great store with great people running it. Glad it's so close to work!

  • Darby Green

Barnes and nobles is great for finding all the kid books imaginable. Your able to sit in a designated area for reading kids books without being bothered. But, if you even carry in a drink not purchased at b&n or sit on the floor you'll be asked to leave or to move. Good location, slow staff.

  • David Kaiser

One of my favorite Barnes & Noble. It’s a very pleasant atmosphere with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The café area is relaxed and quiet, which allows you to get work done. (Unlike the Union Square location, which tends to be a bit more chaotic.) Overall, a nice addition to Tribeca.

  • Yevgeniy Kizhner

It's a very nice bookstore with a cafe and they also sell music besides books there. It is nice that it's close to the Brookfield Place shopping mall center. It is rather convenient for me since I travel to that shopping mall from my home in Brookfield occasionally.

  • nastia ymanska

Love this place. Very convenient location where you can chill and relax! You can get coffee at Starbucks that's located inside the store and dive in in a virtual book world. Amazing children section where kids can play and run freely, read and enjoy snacks .

  • Halim Tansug

Great spot to shop for books&glfts and spending time to read. The coffee section has a good variety of coffees and cookies and other edibles. Thanks for always being there:) the magazines section is definitely worth a look with so many titles available.

  • Andrea Aquines

Great store. There is a wide selection of books and the staff is great. They have a starbucks and a good area to sit down at. Foe being in the city it's never extremely busy. It's very peaceful and I highly recommend coming here for books and coffee.

  • M1K

As one of the few brick and mortar bookstores that's left in America, this one is refreshing. Bright, spacious, quiet, but without the corporate chain feel, this store is one where you can get lost in reading and shopping for your favorite books.

  • Ryan Cipriani

Huge selection, love the kids section where they can read books, or play. Good selection of STEM toys. Convenient cafe with Starbucks. Couple blocks away from battery park, and same building as a whole foods make the location quite convenient.

  • Roli Garg

Always a good experience.. best among all other B&N stores. Friendly, helpful and courteous staff. While here, also try their cafe's chocolate chunk cookie warmed up.. definitely a must-try if you're a chocolate lover.. worth the calories ;-)

Nice and clean looking, but why no Starbucks inside? also this is not a B&N you can come to hangout at and do some work or just lounge. There are very few chairs and the store is small. …
