So, my bike has problems. I'm aware it has problems. I can't go more than a month of riding it regularly without the rear tire going, and it's always a pain to walk it on the front wheel because the inner tube gets tangled up. Normally, when this happens, I take it to a bike shop to get the inner tube replaced. I do it this way because I'd rather pay $17-$20 every month instead of the $100-$200 it would take to fix everything and disrupt my other living expenses. I just had the brake pads replaced and the tires unbent and that was a big amount for me. It has never been a problem for me to have the inner tube replaced, ever. Since I work in Union Square, I walked my bike 6 avenues (on the front wheel) to this place to get the inner tube replaced like I've always done. The time that it would have taken was instead spent listening to a lecture by the owner about how bad shape my bike is in and how they won't service it unless I agree to pay to fix everything. Also, when the employee brought it inside for a minute the front wheel was suddenly leaking when he brought it back out so...I guess anything could have happened. I'm sure the expectation was that I should pay for the other tire, too. The final straw for me was when the manager insisted that the bike might not even make it out of the shop if they didn't service it the way they wanted (read: if I didn't spend the money they wanted). I've been riding the same bike for 3 years that he talked my ear off about for 15 minutes, and I didn't tolerate everything else up until that point to be insulted with hyperbole. TLDR: I went there to have a flat short-term fixed, I walked away with two flats, and I'm of the opinion this place is scamming customers.

Full-service bicycle store with extraordinarily knowledgeable and helpful staff. I highly recommend just coming and having a conversation with an employee, they are all very helpful and experienced and can make recommendations about what gear you might need without being at all pushy or selling you on stuff you don't need. I purchased a bike fitting with Matt, which I highly recommend if you have any discomfort while riding - I had large amounts of back pain while climbing. He spent several hours with me and was able to fix several glaring problems in how my bike was set up for my body, including several components being broken or installed incorrectly. For example my seat was broken (the rails were completely bent), and he recommended a simple $35 replacement. The seat post was also installed incorrectly - it has a weird connector, which he was familiar with even though its a 17 year old bike. He re-greased and fixed the seat post issue at no cost. Finally we spent a lot of time tweaking the seat height, saddle fore-aft, and handlebar angle to make the bike fit my body. The final result of these changes was absolutely massive - I have no pain and have gained easily 40 watts on my FTP. Matt also made some recommendations on some routes, races, and organizations I could get involved with in the NYC area.

Bicycle Habitat is the truth. Matt and Taylor were both exceedingly helpful. I needed my bike stripped down to the frame and fork for a repair and I needed the service done same day. Matt not only got it done for me and within the time frame I needed, but wrapped all of my bike parts extremely carefully. Beyond my experience, I could also just hear from Taylor's interactions with other customers in the store a helpful kindness and attention. Taylor entertained conversations about bike lights, pedals, and bike pumps with the same vigor and care he did for my request. Matt, equally, gave attention to every customer no matter how big or small the task or question. An older gentleman needed someone to simply see if he had attached his bike rack properly to the back of his car, Matt went above and beyond and confirmed he had installed everything properly. I would go back to bicycle habitat's Chelsea location in a heartbeat. In fact, I plan to have my bike re-assembled there once the repair is complete. Thank you for creating a friendly atmosphere, where truly EVERYONE is welcome.

Today was the first time I had anything to do with Bicycle Habitat, and I was really, really, really happy with my experience. I was interested in the Avail Advanced 2 S, but I had a lot of questions, and I was concerned it might make my long-time back pain worse. (My previous bike, a Cannondale, had been retrofitted to keep me much more upright.) Bicycle Habitat was the closest store that had the Avail I was considering, so I called the store. A guy named Matt answered, and instead of being annoyed about all my questions, he answered them super clearly and super patiently. He was also very honest, saying what he could & couldn't do to make the bike suit my grumpy back. He encouraged me to come to the store so I could try out his various workarounds, but he wasn't pushy at all. Once I got there, he spent a lot of time w/ me and my husband, trying a bunch of things to get my back comfortable. He was amazingly helpful, super attentive and so good at explaining stuff. I bought the bike!

Don’t wast your time! So the other day I took my bike to the shop to get worked on because the gear was not shifting properly. They flushed out my shifter. Also, I bought a new seat… now today I’m having an issue with the chain, jumping that was not happening until my bike was in their shop! so I called in and I talked to someone named Kyle and first off It seemed like he had an attitude. kept telling me I was saying things that I wasn’t saying like I knew where the chain was jumping and he asked where it was jumping that’s their job not mine.. now he’s telling me I have to bring the bike back in and they’re gonna charge me labor to look at it! Should be pretty cheap labor anyway seeing you have illegals working on the bikes anyway that I guarantee are not licensed bike mechanics! Lesson learned!!! be aware stay away!!! won’t be surprised if my post gets taken down! If it does, I will be sure to repost it, so everyone can see!

I'd been to a couple of other shops looking for a bike, and not had the best experience, but in stepping in this store, from start to finish, the service was nothing but exemplary. Rather than going to a 'standard issue' selection, the team listened to what I needed, and then recommended bikes based not only on my requirements, but also my geometry too. What made the experience even better was the fact that they made a special exception to order another bike up from the SoHo store and have it built for me same-day, meaning I didn't have to commute into the city again to pick it up. A real personal, five star experience and as a result I'll be always going here for anything I need in the future. It's this kind of experience that sets independent bike stores apart, and these guys excel at what they do.

Much better than it used to be. I bought a bike from their Lafayette St location (now closed) years ago. Anytime I went back for service or accessories, the staff was indifferent to the point of rude, so I took my business elsewhere. Now that they are in Chelsea, I gave them another shot. I must say the experience is vastly improved over my last visits to Lafayette St. The staff are attentive, and customer service has improved by leaps and bounds. I've only paid a couple visits to this location, but it has always been positive. This review would be 5 star, but sometimes the information you get over the phone is different than what you get on-site. I'll revise this review after I've made a few more visits. So far, I'm quite pleased with this location and its staff.

I had a fantastic experience at this shop. I brought my bike in for a free gear and brake adjustment, but soon realized that it was going to need a lot more work. The staff was patient and thorough. They explained everything in terms of what needed to be done and why, they pointed out the damage and ways to avoid it. They answered all my questions along the way. The work order was complete way earlier than I expected. I came back the next day to pick up the bike. All the work had been done perfectly. I even had a chance to speak to the technician who did the tune up, and he was happy to answer more of my questions.I'm glad that I made the trek to Chelsea from Astoria (in the rain), to ensure that my bike was repaired properly, making it a safe and smooth ride.

I had aTriumph-Raleight 1968 3speed roadster and my tire got flat , they fixed it fast . After that I ride it for 1 block but I feel my speeds loose and they weren't working as they did ,so I returned and ask them if they can tune the speeds as they were working , they treat me as if I was lying about the pre-condition of the speeds. They were not able to fix them ! As I was sure they were working perfect I tried to fix it by my own so I loose a small tube from the cable that makes the shifts , and the speeds start working again not as they were but they were acceptable... Maybe they know how to fix new bikes but definitively why don't know about old bikes , and the most important thing they were not polite instead the were kind of rude .

  • chris cappe

I went in for a meter for my bike a few weeks ago this spring. The employee recommended me a few from their shop and I settled on one that was suppose to do everything I wanted. After they installed it on my bike I took it out for a ride. The meter was not the meter I wanted at all. After my ride I returned to the store where I told an employee this isn’t what I wanted/paid for. Clearly agitated they refused to give me a refund and now when I went in to buy a few things at the store with the credit I was only given the refund for the item. I believe I should’ve been given a full refund since this was an item that they messed up on. I was told “it’s The owners policy.” Not at all the review I wanted to post about my local bike shop.

While searching for a bike during the pandemic... Bicycle Habitat was able to locate a bike for me. Initially they didn't have my requested color but Matt gave me a few other colors options in my size. 3 days later the bike was ready for me to pickup. He also honored the original purchase price. Seems specialized is raising prices across their entire product line. For some strange reason (might be because original color bike was refunded) I wasn't charged for the bike when I picked it up. In essence I had walked away with a free bike. But that would not be right. I authorized Justine to charge my CC, The bike rides great. Might go back in a month or so to make required adjustments. highly recommended shop

  • Flow Thartist

I have been here multiple time with decent enough experience but after a phone call with Justine I will never go back or recommend them to anyone. She was absolutely disrespectful and couldn’t simply tell me the average cost of a spoke. I was aware she couldn’t give an estimate and tried to ask what the part typically cost and her response was so unprofessional. I told her she was being very rude and I was simply trying to gather as much information as possible before I came in and she made it very clear courtesy wasn’t her concern. What’s worse is she claims to be the manager. She needs to be fired. Her attitude is absolutely inappropriate and no where near management level.

  • Mahlon Stewart

I only go to Bicycle Habitat. The staff know what they’re doing, are helpful, and the owner and staff have a long history of advocating for cyclists and cycling culture in the city. I’ve purchased more than 6 bikes here for me and my children over the years. My most recent visit was with a bike I did NOT purchase at BH and the staff were immensely helpful. I learned so much about the problem I was trying to solve (how to deal with a non-healing tubeless tire puncture). They’re recommendation worked! They have great merch as well. They’re one of the oldest Specialized dealers in the US so they get the good stuff early. I heart BH. Rock on.

  • Felipe Caballero

Unprofessional, overpriced and extremely rude. I brought my bike in on a Sunday for a basic tune-up and was told I could pick it up the following Thursday. When I showed up to pick it up, they snapped at me that it wasn't ready and that it wouldn't be ready for ANOTHER entire week. I came here because it was close and convenient, but I'd rather go a little further to receive decent customer service. When I asked if there was a manager I could talk to, the extremely unprofessional employee told me "just do it online." No problem, here's me doing just that. FYI I took my bike to another shop nearby and they were able to fix it in a day.

  • sal v

I did not have a good experience at this store. I went to buy a cycling shoe and they didn’t have it in my size. The guy made me pay before they ordered the one in my size. Seemed shady to me. But ok, I paid. I get a call that the order is in and when J got k pick it up it’s the wrong size. Wait 3 more days to order the one in correct size. This one does not fit too. At this point I asked first my money back and the sales guy refused saying all sales are final when they actually never made a damn sale. They were trying to con me by not refunding my money. The owner stepped in and refunded my money. Shady business. Avoid at all costs

  • Michael

Bought my Trek 8.5DS from the SoHo store and it was time for a good cleaning and lube job. Brought it to the Chelsea shop and they were very helpful. I was looking to get an annual tune up, they inspected the bike with me and recommended new disc pads and a new tire for the rear which I agreed with. Also suggested that I may need a new chain but it wasn't urgent and didn't pressure me to change it. Finally had a chance to take the bike out for a 25 mile ride this weekend and have to say it rode better than new!!! Hal Ruzal did an excellent job on the tune up. Rides like a dream.

  • Alex Kliment

I've written before but writing again: Bicycle Habitat are the best. Recently had some trouble with bottom bracket and chain tension on a single speed bike i bought from them 1.5 years ago. They fixed it within two hours, and since the bike was from them, they wouldn't even let me pay for the repair (i tried, I swear.) I recommend BH to any/all cyclists I know, from beginners to seasoned alleycats. BH are total pros, treat their customers really well, and are just a cool crew of people you want to support. Can't say enough good things about them, but go find out for yourself.

  • Zoe Verzani

Matt was incredible! I am very new to biking, and he took the time to answer all my questions; he was incredibly patient and made me feel very comfortable. He did a bike fit and tuned up my bike to ensure it was properly adjusted to fit me perfectly. I chose this bike store because of the fantastic reviews I found online, and my experience went above and beyond what I was expecting! He even kept my bike overnight to fix some issues from the manufacturer and then stayed after hours the next day to let me pick it up since I didn't have time during store hours to come.

  • Stephen Sherry

Truly a 10/10 bike purchase experience in the age of Covid. Spoke with Nicholas over the phone in the morning, confirmed that the online inventory was correct, put a deposit down, and they had the bike built up in a couple of hours! Was expecting to wait a few days, I think I just got lucky with the timing. When I arrived, I waited outside for someone to help. They wheeled the bike out and I was riding away in less than 10 minutes. That's about 1 hour less than any other bike purchase I've ever made. Thank you Nicholas!

  • Michael Flynn

I've bought a bike at Bicycle Habitat, bought one for my kid, bought gear, had repairs done, etc. Have visited the Chelsea, Prospect Heights, and Park Slope locations. Almost without exception the staff are friendly and helpful, and in some cases they are really stellar, like when I was getting panniers at the Chelsea location and the staff member (I wish I remembered his name) really educated me on what to look for, the pros & cons of panniers vs. baskets, how they fit onto the rack, etc. Count me as a happy customer.

  • Inga Romanoff

Thank you for your exceptional service. From the moment I called to schedule an appointment - spoke to Aaron, who clearly explained the services to be performed on my Yuba Fastrack, timeline, and where/when to drop off my bicycle. The check-in was easy and helpful. The pickup was a breeze, I knew exactly what was done and got a few maintenance tips. I always ask questions and got a thorough respectful responses including how to remove the DRS on my own. So, thank you. I will be back. And 5+ stars!

  • Alex Aboud

TOTAL RIP OFF! Take your bike elsewhere. I was told there were no significant problems with my bike and that it just needed a “tune up” for the gears and brakes. Exactly what expected. Left my bike with them and was charged $90!!! After telling them I had purchased my bike at the store, they discounted it to $50. Based on their advertised prices a brake and derailleur adjust should be $27 before the “Get your bike with us? Free brake and gear adjustments” promo. Take your bike elsewhere.

  • Jose Nicolas Reyero

I bought my Trek 820 from Bicycle Habitat in 2000. The only thing I’ve had to change is tires and 2 or 3 chains through those 20 years! Maybe some cables once over. Its been a rock solid bike all along. I couldn’t be happier with purchase then, and now, and I was happy to support the same independent business 20 years later on a new set of tires. As always, great customer service, since the day I first test rode my Trek in SoHo, Spring of 2000, to this year’s purchase. Highly recommend!

  • Math Tutor

I had nothing but great things to say about Bicycle Habitat before today. After speaking with the “Manager”, Justine Valle, I wouldn’t recommend a soul come here. They were very rude and too busy for their own good. I can tell they treat everyone under them horribly and it’s such a shame that I came in today. I asked that I speak with the associate helping me before and I was met with disregard and dismissal. I would rather fix my bike myself than talk you again Justine. Cheers.

  • moshe amint

I went to Bike Habitat yesterday to choose a new bike for myself. I spoke to a guy named Frank who was so patient with me after i asked him dozens of questions. He also must have switched the seat for me about a half a dozen times until it felt right. I was truly blown away by how helpful and nice all the staff were and of course the cheapest price in town for my bike (Trek 7.4FX) All in all a 5 star shopping experience. I would highly recommend this place to all my friends.

  • Bren Nazareth

I dropped my bike off, they said they would call me with a price that day, they did not. I called the next day and they said it was ready. They did the opposite of what I asked. They redid it the way I wanted and when I picked it up they charged me for both. The girl said that’s the price and nobody was there that could do anything about it. I have 5 bikes, and do most work on them myself. Occasionally I will bring to a bike shop. Honestly this is the worst one I’ve been to.

  • Hrodgær

Got my bike here a year ago, and always go back to it when I need accessories and tuning, the staff is awesome, it’s a cool group of people; good assortment and convenient location. I love my bike, best investment I made in the past few years, and shopped around a bit before purchasing there. These guys know how to assemble cool wheels, just explain your biking needs/ customs and they will fulfill with competitive prices and sharp look on their product.

  • Valeria Rubinstein

Avoid this bike shop! Horrible customer serve and they say whatever comes to mind to make a buck. I assembled my daughter's $50 balance bike and had the bearing for the handlebar in the wrong place. To move it and tighten it with an allen wrench cost me almost $20. Took the repair guy less than a minute. When I spoke to the front desk person about it, he said "I really don't care". I think that sums it about about this place. They "really don't care".

  • Cori Marquis

I came in to purchase a bike (my first since I was a child!), and Adam took time and care to listen to what my needs were and make a recommendation. He met me where I was with my (minimal!) level of bike knowledge while sharing his deep knowledge and genuine passion for biking. He helped me get changes made to the bike same-day so I could ride the bike home--I am thrilled with my new wheels! The whole experience was a delight. Thank you!

  • Leona

Thank you Matt from Bicycle Habitat in Chelsea. He went above and beyond to help me get sized up for my Diverge ES5 with multiple adjustment to make sure I was satisfied with the sizing. I also ended up picking my bike 5 days earlier since it was supposed to be shipped to Park Slope. Since I was in the area, they were able to assemble it in Chelsea...it was ready to go in 15minutes. Saved myself a trip! Thanks, Matt + the team. 10/10.

  • M J

My back wheel started tweaking while I was riding in the rain- super unsafe, I also realized I had left my wallet at home but I tried my luck. The gentlemen at the front desk didn't mind and were willing to help me regardless. Ceaser blessed me and fixed my bike and even explained to me what had happened and gave me tips on how to care for it. Thank you so much for your kindness. I will be coming back here for all my bike needs!

  • Jacob Rheinstein

I bought my first tri-bike from eBay a few months ago and had it fitted by Matt with support from the rest of the team. Matt was extremely thorough throughout the process, which took a few tries to get right and he even leveraged personal connections to get a part that was out of stock. They run an honest, professional shop here and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new bike, service, or apparel and accessories.

  • Ilya M

Lester was awesome! My bike SANG when I picked it up. I swear, it hasn't been this clean, hasn't run this well, hasn't had this kind of love since I bought it. Lester was patient and explained things to me and confirmed for me that Bicycle Habitat generally hires good, knowledgeable, overwhelmingly friendly people. Lester, man, whatever sorcery you applied to that cassette and gear shift is much appreciated.

  • Xunjing Wu

Taylor was super helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in helping choose my bike. They also allowed me to go on several test rides before I made up my mind. I was also glad that I was able to find a helmet that fitted me well here, which doesn't always happen easily . I'd highly recommend this shop to anyone who's looking to buy a bike or other bike related services. Thank you Taylor and Bicycle Habitat!

  • Chas Hoff

I located a hard-to-find item on their website (Ortlieb Ultimate 6 high-vis handlebar bag), and placed the order with a lot of skepticism as I had ordered the same item from other shops only to later have the order cancelled due to poor inventory control. These folks came through. They literally shipped the next day, and I had it in my hands much sooner than expected. Well done team Bicycle Habitat!

  • Carole Maisonneuve

Highly dedicated team: despite’s the fact we brought in our bike at 6.30pm for fixing (the store closed at 7pm), the staff spared no effort to find a suitable solution to allow us to use our cargo bike the next day for the NYC Century Bike your. The staff tried three different ways to fix the bike and finally managed to find a solution, we’ll after the official close of the store. Thank you!

  • Jesse Jones

Went in for a quick tune up and minor repairs and overall safety check for the bicycle since I just bought it used from private party. Staff was friendly, plenty of inventory, great prices. I knocked a star off as chain wasn't lubbed, seat post wasn't tide down, and not even included a valve stem cover cap with the quick tune up. Minor details I suppose although still a good bicycle shop!

  • Julio Cesar Rios landabur

I was robbed, they overpriced me an extra 50 dollars for an alleged “labor force” or whatever they called , also the person who attended me at the entrance was terribly professional. a service that in M&C downtown costs more or less $40 bucks as it is a change of brakes and screws, these thieves charged me a total of $93.67 I do not recommend that you’ll waste your money in that place.

  • Alex Robinson

This review is only based on the accessibility to get air for my tires. I have never stepped foot inside. Outside they have a sign labeled air and the best part about it is that it's compressed air pump. So you can fill your tires fast and keep moving, unlike the traditional manual pump which is the equivalent of churning butter. I really appreciate this aspect of Bicycle Habitat

  • Zephan Fischl

Highly recommend this shop and their staff who are always helpful and knowledgable. Have been coming here for 4+ years since buying my Specialized Tarmac from them and keep coming back because of their customer service, good product selection and overall wanting to do what's best for their customers, rather than selling you something you may not need. Highly recommend.

  • Melanie Tosik

10/10 experience. I was looking for a bike to get around the city and be more active while the lockdown continues on. I emailed the shop and they recommend the Specialized Sirrus 1.0 which I ended up ordering last week. Picked it up this morning and it’s perfect!! Shoutout to the extremely friendly staff, quick turnaround, and the safe and easy curbside service :)

  • Hjordis Linn-Blanford

User Hjordis Linnblanford No nonsense, straight forward advice/suggestions. Real people who are down to earth & know about bicycles work here. I've been a customer since the 80's going to the Lafayette St original location with my dad. Hal fixed my bike after a minor crash & before I did a long 3 day ride from NYC to Boston. Habitat is my go to bicycle shop

  • Simon Bloch

A fabulous bike shop. Been a loyal customer there for years. Worth the trip from Brooklyn. Obviously unforeseen issues with an old bike will always pop up but you can't blame a shop for this. You can only hope the problem will be clearly communicated and and handled intelligently+professionally. Bicycle Habitat achieves all of this and then some. 10/10

  • C. Soto

I've been going to BH since 2014 and was completely unaware of this location! Needless to say Denis took care of all my repairs, Matt pointed out all of my bikes deficiencies and got me back on the road without had having to spend more then 200.00 bucks (after not having my bike serviced in at least 2 yrs). Great place for bike enthusiast!!!!!!!

  • Tyler Mariano

Normally such a positive experience here but last visit left a bad taste in my mouth… Didn’t have parts in stock to do the job and the technician become super rude and kinda nasty speaking with suchhh vitriol as if I wasn’t in the room two feet away, about my bike? unprofessional. Obviously I’m taking my bike to you because I can’t ride it…

  • Shintaro Muraseh (SM-SYaKo)

Fixing my bicycle was very good. The staff was very friendly and kind. He explained to me what he fixed. There was no problem after it was fixed. The only reason this is my rating is the assortment of the bicycle lights. There was a product that cost over $90 and about $20. I wanted some kind of product that is priced and worth in between.

  • Megan Averbuch

Excellent experience! Lovely staff, very friendly and VERY helpful. Knowledgeable staff that made shopping for a bike very easy. Matt (I believe that was his name and I believe him to be a manager) was extremely helpful and I am grateful for his help and the whole team at BH!! Thank you! I recommend this place for all of your bike needs

  • Doug Jensen

Matt provides amazing service and attention. I first starting going to Bicycle Habit a few months ago for minor repairs on an old bike. He personally helped me. It led to me being the proud new owner of a Specialized Allez road bike that he secured for me (and two months earlier than predicted). I’m happy with my new perfect bike.

  • Rob Ganton

I travelled to New York for a holiday. While here I thought I would try to find a gates belt for my 2011 norco diamond. I have tried for 2 years in Canada to find one. Matt at Bicycle Habitat not only knew what I was talking about but found 1 for me. AND delivered it to my hotel. That is service way above and beyond! Thank you!

  • Fletcher Huntley

I was quoted $30 for changing my brake pads. When I went to pay, I was charged $64 and when I asked why, the person at the register told me with a combative attitude that that was the price. I would’ve gone somewhere else had I known the real price if the service from the beginning. And the guy at the register was rude.

  • jessie mayfield

It was very crowded and intimidating but the staff were so nice, Arron took me to the other side where they put the bikes together and they had amazing cruisers which is hard to find in nyc bike shops. They put together online bikes from Electra and Public. Two companies I’ve heard good things about. Glad I went there.

  • Katherine Long

Bicycle Habitat is and will always be my bike shop of choice!:-) Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and the best staff and mechanics around. This is a bike shop that cares about the community and always gives back. They are the best! If you are looking for a new bike, parts, clothes or need a tune up, they will find it!

  • Karina Glaser

A great bike store! The person who helped me, Lia, was incredible at making sure I had everything I needed for my bike. She navigated social distancing when I was at the store and ran back and forth to show me various options at different price points and styles. Lia is a great salesperson and deserves a huge raise!

  • leandro artigala

Amazing bicycles and all related products, above all the staff always willing to help. Eduardo guided us through the whole trading/purchasing process, even a month ago when we did stop by to ask/check on the new and available bikes. Finally got a beautiful black 28” V brake Specialized Sirrus. Bicycle Habitat rocks!

  • Dan McElroy

The knowledgeable staff were able to see the details of my previous purchase of a bike from their Brooklyn location on Vanderbilt, and based on that info selected & assembled a new set of wheels for me. The wheels were exactly what I needed and came at a great price. Much appreciated, would've been lost without BH!

  • Birni

I really love my bike and I’m thankful for the lady that helped me! I didn’t catch her name but she was so nice and helped me with my bike . I haven’t rode a bike in so long so her being so informative helped my nerves. I came from Jersey to get this bike and I’ll do it again just because of her. Thank you love!

  • Alexandros Dakas

Purchased a bike here yesterday and the experience was everything I could ask for. Staff was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, & super friendly. Ari was so amazing to work with & the mechanics built my bike straight out of the box & helped me get setup on it with the trainers they have in the shop. 10/5 Stars!

  • Carson Link

I have been dealing with Bicycle Habitat for like 15 years now and I have bought three bicycles from them over the years. They are the only Bicycle store, that I will go to because I always get excellent service very courteous and they're very personable and that's a real treat when you live in New York City.

  • James Johnson

Not a nice place to go Kyle has a big attitude problem! Called in on the phone about repairs on my bike. Wanted to get my electric bike serviced! He acted like he couldn’t understand my Spanish accent! Sad plus they were going to charge me double the price another shop quoted me stay away overcharge warning!

  • alexander melas

I was having trouble putting my scooter tire back on my rim. They explained what they planned to do and why it was so difficult to put on which I always love also how to change the tune myself for next time if needed. Very cool! And the price was more than fair and service was fast. Thanks bicycle habitat.

This is the place to go to when you need a fix! I needed my escooter's front tire & inner tube to be replaced and they did just that. As long as you supply the parts of course, they also adjusted the front handlebars for me. They fixed my scooter for only $40. That's a steal! The staff is also very nice!

I ordered some bar tapes online to pick up in-person when I visited New York, but got covid and had to cancel the trip. When I emailed the shop, they offered to ship the tapes. The tapes arrived, I kid you not, the very next day. Looking forward to dropping by for more stuff next time I'm in nyc!

  • Arjun Roy

Absolutely loved the warm welcome and help I got from Justine. Totally wiped the "new purchase anxiety" outta my mind. Love the variety of bikes and accessories you have at your store. Will definitely recommend my friends and peers to head to Bicycle Habitat for all their biking needs. Kudos!

  • Giulia Ballotta

Best bike shop ever! They supported me and my father to solve all issues related to remote organization from Italy. We wrongly ordered the bike in the wrong shop two time and we discover that on the foreseen picking date and they supported us in every way. Thank you guys, you’re a good team

  • J. W. S

I found exactly what I needed and was guided through the selection process by a friendly, knowledgeable, and unrushed employee. I felt very taken care of! They went out of their way to make sure the shoes I was selecting would be the right fit, and I feel confident I spent money wisely.

I had a terrible experience with a tune up. Even guy at cash register thought it was odd I had to come back as gears weren’t working as before I dropped it off. This was a while ago. But I get upset whenever I think about it. I had a great experience at the Soho location prior to this.

  • DeLany McFate

I bought my bike here and had good service. However, it costs way too much to have any work done. I like the place overall, everyone is friendly and would buy parts here, but their labor charges are a little exaggerated and will probably end up doing the work by myself in the future.

  • Dave Shichman

Super helpful, friendly, patient with my newbie-bike questions. I'm really happy with the Bicycle I purchased and the lifetime assistance. Great store! They offered to just lend me a tool instead of making me purchase it. I wanted to own one myself just incase, but really helpful.

  • Karl Letcher

Justine was very helpful. She was careful about following COVID protocol, and found the accessories I needed promptly. She also helped me find a suitable helmet within my price range, and offered to order a part that wasn't currently in stock. Altogether a great experience.

  • Rich Mintz

Excellent experience. Knowledgeable staff member made an emergency repair to my bike on the spot at no charge, explained how the problem had occurred, and described exactly what they would do to fix it when I came back for the permanent repair and how much it would cost.

  • Carlos Lopez

This is hands down the best bike fit experience I’ve had. Matt is a fountain of knowledge: methodical, careful and receptive to working with you. The staff were superb: helpful, cordial, and all around nice people. Service was very good. Will definitely be coming back.

  • Ruby T

I had a flat a few blocks away. I called the shop and they asked me to bring it over. I arrived and was greeted by really friendly staff. They had many customers but worked fast. Bike was repaired in 15 minutes and the price was reasonable. Great place and great staff.

  • Adam Ingersoll

Gave very helpful, friendly advice. Sold me a bike that I loved but turned out to be too small. I then had to get the right size elsewhere. They exhibited no hard feelings whatsoever, helped me build and kit out the replacement. Justine Valle in particular was awesome.

  • Arben Perkolaj (He Him)

Picking up my brand new bike and signed up for a custom fitting. Despite a scheduling snafu for the fitting, Justine and the team there all went out of their way to accommodate, while juggling a million other things. Real people, who love to ride, positive experience.

  • Rick Muller

The staff is helpful, friendly and cooperative with each other to get everyone's job done expeditiously; as an old-timer, I am ever grateful that wherever Habo goes, there goeth Hal, who has kept me rolling on a few iterations of Kickbikes, a Dahon and now a Brompton.

  • Sarah Diminich

Just the best staff - always. No matter who works with me, they are professional, detail-oriented, ensuring that I get the most personalized service. Most recently, Ari was amazing, and Matt is always, always attentive and extremely knowledgeable. I love your store!

  • Lucky Torres

I really appreciate the kind and helpful attitude of the staff at Bicycle Habitat. They’ve helped me with my biking needs since the start! I feel very comfortable asking questions and seeking their advise because they know so much! Thank you, Bicycle Habitat! 10/10

  • Vivienne Bailey

My bike came super fast, it was set up immediately and everyone was really helpful and kind and answered any questions I had and made sure to let me know to reach out if I need anything, and to let me know what my benefits were with buying the bike from them/Giant.

  • Max Noy

Amazing service, Matt talked through all the questions I had and even ones that I didn't. This saved me from destroying the new bike on my (unsuitably-configured) bike rack. Thank you Matt!! This is bike #3 purchased from this location and we'll be back for more.

  • Guillaume Mear

Arielle was incredibly friendly and helpful in showing me the different bikes and equipments, taking the time to set up several bikes for me to try, all well within my budget. Bicycle habitat is very neighborly while offering a very wide range of products

  • James Moriarty

Matt was super helpful and I didn’t feel like I was being sold anything; I felt that all recommendations were in my best interest and he asked questions to make sure I was comfortable and that what he was recommending made sense based on how much I ride.

  • Mrinal Kumar

Great bike shop with super friendly people. Tony is the best. He gives great advice and best part is free tuneup if you buy bike from them. Downtown location has more stock as compared to 7th Ave location. Perfect place to buy your bike in Manhattan.

  • Charles Komanoff

I've been a daily all-purpose bike rider -- commuting, shopping, touring -- in and around NYC since 1973. I'm in my 43rd year of using Bicycle Habitat as my primary provider of bicycles, parts, accessories, service, advice and love. They're the best!

  • David Shih

Caught a flat on way home. Popped in and they were very helpful. $8 for inner tube, $10 for labor. I had my own tools, so I just bought an inner tube. Their mechanic welcomed me to use their air pump. Overall, great prices and super friendly staff.

  • A seban

Great location and very friendly knowledgeable staff! Always ready to help and make recommendations whether on equipment or repairs. Whether you go there to add air to your tires, a full tune up, a repair or buy a helmet they will not disappoint!

  • S7

I went in and put a deposit of a several hundred dollars on a Trek. Something came up, I spoke with them and they refunded every dollar. They said "please consider us in the future for your bike needs." I did and will continue to. Excellent shop.

  • Steven Z

Ordered my first real road bike and called to make sure it was in stock. Justine picked up and all I can say is AMAZING customer service. Super nice and ensuring me the bike is in stock and will be ready for me soon. Couldn't thank her enough!

  • Jose G. Izquierdo

Excellent experience, very busy place with great customer service. If you ever visit, take your time and ask questions. They have a good variety of brands and items on sale. Thought I wish items on sale were advertised better inside the store.

  • Alan Momeyer

Everything! You go out of your way to make sure the job is done right. You put things in everyday speak so the novice is not confused. You do what you say you’re going to do, and more. Bravo! Other service businesses should emulate you.

  • Christopher Vo

I always feel so well taken care of here. Great service. Great education. I always feel like I leave learning a little bit more about how to better take care of my bike. I never feel taken advantage of. Great shop. Matt is the best!!!

  • Derrill Dabkoski

Excellent, patient, and helpful service. All types of bikes and equipment from your serious rider to those starting out riding. If you buy a bike they give you lifetime adjustments and comes with a basic fit. They offer pro fits too.

  • Cam Iadeluca

Overpriced, unfriendly staff. I go back to give them attempt after attempt, but they continuously talk in a condescending manner as if they are the only ones who understand bicycles. Regardless of what I need, not a good experience.

  • MyAndy Novotny

Knowledgeable staff, ample inventory in stock, staff not looking to up sell but helping us get the gear that fits our needs, and timeliness of service. So grateful to Matt, Adam, and Nelson for outfitting us with our first bicycles.

  • Pauly

I got my first bike ever from here. It was a TREK FX 1. If your wondering. Amazing customer service honestly. Staff educated me on the locks and what other locks go well with the best ones. Especially a U-lock and a pos system lock.

  • Connie M. Smith

Decent service, as it should be. But their are some attitudes concerning some of the employees. Other than that, I got what I wanted at a reasonable price. Can't complain, at all. I'll give it 2 1/2 stars... And I will be back.

  • Luge Pravda

Like all the BH stores, served by very helpful, knowledgeable, cycle experts. I happened to be in Chelsea with a cross-threaded crank at 6pm. Replaced and installed by 6:30pm. At a very reasonable price (less than 30 bucks).

  • Steven Harms

This place is great. I’ve been to others but Matt started fixing stuff on my bike (which needed a tune up) before I’d finished my list of complaints. Everything you could want. This place is now my bike’s home for care.

  • Happy Hamburger

I am not from the area and I wasn't able to bring in anything but a single broken part, but workers there were great and incredibly kind telling me what I needed to do, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need.

  • Stephen McBride

I love this place ever since I was introduced to it I’ve been there four times they are always so pleasant even during the lockdown pandemic. They have everything and they really care about the customers. Great vibes!

  • Brendan Parent

Employees are kind knowledgeable helpful rockstars. BH’s policy of free check up post purchase is unique and helpful. BH is also the only place in town that had the inventory during a time when no one has inventory.
