This is the best sub shop in Ontario. I take issue with a lot of the reviews of this place. "It's a hidden gem!" - No, everyone goes here and for a good reason "3/5 stars, best Portguese tarts in this country but not as good as Portugal" - You did Bonanza dirty and should be ashamed. "I showed up at 11:59am and there were 6 firefighters ahead of me!" - Yes, everyone loves Bonanza and you showed up at lunch. This is like showing up at your favourite concert 2 minutes before show time and complaining you couldn't get good seats. Bonanza is a small bakery surrounded by houses that has been feeding people good lunches since before most of us were born. Have the prices increased? Yes, it's no longer $1.75 for a spamwich and a pack of menthol lights. Is there a line sometimes? Yes, other people like good food. You are part of the problem. Is there hot food, certain baked goods, or other things than subs? Sometimes yeah. This place knows what they're good at and sticks to it. It's the best sub in a city of great subs. The staff are great, the whole process is as efficient as it can be. And if they expanded or changed anything we'd all complain. Do you order this for dinner? YOU CAN, but it's a lunch time staple. Do you take someone for a date here? NO. Take it and go, it keeps so well. Buy more and eat them tomorrow. Any question not pertaining to subs? GO ELSEWHERE. This is a near perfect sub shop.I don't know why other people try opening sub shops in this city when Bonanza exists. I don't even need to talk about the food, it's a sub sandwich and they do it the best. Long live Bonanza

Hadn’t been to the Bonanza Bakery since the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Used to get a mixed sub for $2.50 stacked with meats. Went this day about 15-16 years later. Parking is still condensed and restricted at lunch hour, but we’ll worth the wait. Prices have gone up (just like everything else), ordered the Turkey sub and one mixed sub. The buns were fresh, meat was also quality meat (lean) and a generous amount of meat on both subs. Friendly staff on hand, will definitely return-Closes at 4:30 P.M. though M-F (Not open evenings). Take cash or debit. No credit cards.

How this has such a high review is beyond me. A few hear back ya it was amazing with such a good hot foods section and fresh. Subs cheap. Fast forward to today we are above average for a sub shop 10$. It’s nothing special at all stay away from the dry hot foods and just get a sandwich and desserts and your good. I think it’s the nostalgia that keeps people going there. It really was a staple in the area at one point. If your into this type of stuff i woods say dewartes > bonanzas by a long shot. I gVe them 3 stars instead of 2 because the desserts are pretty rockin.

This is such a great little spot! And, most people wouldn't even know the place exists! (Ask a local Hamiltonian to help you find this place, if you don't know.) First, they make some pretty fantastic deli-style sandwiches (I highly recommend thr turkey bacon club. It was excellent.) The Portuguese buns they make your sandwich on are to die for! (I took a dozen buns home, too.) They also have some pretty fantastic desserts, and breads, and other sinfully delicious fare. (I left after purchasing over $40 worth of goodies.) I will most certainly return for more.

Great food. Reasonable prices. Good selection. Odd location. It's in a residential area and you'd never know it was there unless you knew where to go or happened to bump into it. Street parking only and good luck with that. Many times, I've had to drive right on by because there was no parking. If you changed locations and rented a storefront in a mall or plaza with lots of parking, you would double your business in your first week. It's worth the frustration of limited parking. But it would be nice if you moved to a more accessible location.

Bonanza Bakery is a hidden gem just outside of downtown Hamilton. If you didn't know it was there, you would miss it. But this is one place not to miss. The bakery provides delicious fresh baked goods, including bread and some pastries. A day old bag of buns only cost 2$ and they were fresh as new! This bakery also has inexpensive and delicious subs, all for under 10$. I highly recommend the chicken parm sub, it is super tasty and is good bang for your buck. All in all, this place is highly recommended!

I've enjoyed going to Bonanza Bakery for about 15years one thing's for sure , the subs are just as amazing today as they were 15years ago. An assortment of delicious cold cuts to choose from along with all kinds of savory sub toppings and to complete this master peice Fresh baked buns!!! What more could yo possibly ask for?? If you haven't already tried some of Bo Bnanza Bakerys delicious foods I strongly suggest that you try it. You won't be disappointed.

We have just " found" this great bakery and will surely return. Off the beaten path but worth looking for. The bread is definitely the star. Nice authentic style. They have some pastries too but most are brought in from other places. They also have a hot sandwich bar. Very traditional veal , chicken and beef cutlets, plus other options, with a good homemade sauce and caramelized onions etc. Ample portions. Service was quick and VERY friendly.

One of the best places for a hearty sandwich at a great price. The bread is fresh and so is everything else.The chicken parm comes with two pieces of chicken: lots of toppings to choose from including roasted peppers and you’ve got a huge sandwich on a fresh bun. The mixed sub is was also massive enough to share. The meatball sub is savoury with homemade meatballs that you will love too. Can’t go wrong with any menu option. Enjoy!

Prices are ridic & especially for UberEats. Great portions but Chicken Parm cutlets kinda dry. Sauce should be on the side. Got sauce everywhere & soggy buns instead. Grossness. Some pastries were stale. No wonder their once perfect 5-star average on UE is tanking. I don't even feel bad for writing this. I'm only a Karen where it counts. Really don't understand the hype about this place. Almost rather eat at Ola's.

Absolutely love Bonanza! We always get a sub, cannoli, and natas. Everything tastes fresh and it's very affordable. We will continue to be loyal customers. The only reason I took off one star is because every time we've gone, the service hasn't been great. The staff seem to come off a bit rude and short with us. But overall it's a great place. Definitely the best subs we've found in Hamilton.

Wow! Has the prices ever gone up. To get two sandwiches that are no different than sub shops, it cost me $19.10. Insane... I could go to any sub shop, get a larger sub, with more sub options, and pay less. I used to go there because it was less than going to the subshops, but now! Lol. I won't be returning.

Delicious, simple sandwiches. The custard tarts are to die for. Bread is delicious. The only reason they loose a star... customer service is very hit or miss. Some of the staff is friendly, but some of them seem like they would rather you not be there. Overall I would still definitely recommend going for a tasty lunch and some desserts to take home.

I love this place i got a turkey club and the bun is fresh the bacon perfectly crispy and it is great prices, it is very busy due to popularity so there can be a slight line up just be patient there was 3 ladies working hard behind the counter to offer fast amd perfect sandwiches,their bake goods are great as well i definitely reccomend

Bonanza Bakery is truly a hidden gem worth finding. The sandwiches are literally sandWISHES honestly! Always fresh and the Portuguese tarts are my favourite. I don’t live in the neighborhood anymore it’s worth returning every now again for not only the nostalgia of the neighborhood but to enjoy some great eats. Worth it!

Best subs in Hamilton. I am amazed by what I got for a mere $4.95. Loaded with meat and cheese, on deliciously fresh bread. Served by a very friendly lady who did a fantastic job of diplomatically but assertively enforcing Covid protocol when a maskless gentleman cut in line (I use the phrase "gentleman" loosely).

Awesome takeaway lunch spot in a poor location. I've been going here when I'm in the area for 15 yrs. It used to be solely cash with unbeatable prices on deli sandwiches, pizza and hot lunches. They recently upgraded and with that, so did the cost. Still a great deal for the area. Still best bang for buck around.

Old school!!! Sandwiches for $4.95!! All good food including brownies at amazing prices. Real deal commercial bakery with full hot and cold food bars. Lots of bread and buns. In the hood off the main street. Always lots of first responders there which is a good sign for take-out in my book! Find it and enjoy!!

They make a delectable proGUTO BUT I like MORTANDELLO and they have scalami and a little bit of whatever u want. We also got a canopi but my fiance ate it so no idea how good it was although she said it was great

I love going to this place for lunch on my days off. I often pick up my dinner to reheat later. The bun makes the sandwich and Bonanza’s sandwich buns are the best. I love them. Some of favourite things there are mortadella sandwich, lasagna, carrot cake, cannoli’s and the brownies. All of them are perfect.

Without doubt the best sandwich shop in Hamilton, newly renovated, clean, and friendly this place WILL NOT disappoint you. Also worth of note, is the hot food section, which boasts the worlds greatest meatball sub. I have had many, many, meatball subs in my life, and none can compare to that one. AMAZING!

My husband, myself and our family have been coming here for years for sandwiches and baked goods and every single time they’re consistently great. We love to order sandwiches ahead of time for our beach trips. Their service is always fantastic. A true Hamilton staple. Could not live without.

Love the food here! As soon as you walk in, all you can smell is the fresh baked bread and it is intoxicating. The subs are out of this world! I always say that I am going to try something new but I always settle for the subs! Don't let the exterior fool you! Definitely a must try.

I wish I would have visited earlier in the day.I came an hour before close and got two sandwiches and a cannoli. My whole sandwich was fresh and the bread was delicious. I don’t usually get mixed cold cuts but it was well worth it here!I will definitely be coming back to try more!

They're Sandwiches are awesome (Hot or Cold), Great selection on Prepared meals like Pizza, Pastas, Sausages and Deserts too! Also a great selection on cold Pops, Juices and Sodas too! Long hours but closes at 5:30pm though! Busy at lunch hour! I recommend it whole-heartily!

Food is absolutely amazing. We drive out from Burlington on our lunch breaks often. However, the manager here is quite rude to his employees. We have heard him on numerous occasions belittling and being snappy with his staff. Otherwise the rest of the staff are amazing!

Some of the best sandwiches available in Hamilton whether hot or cold. I particularly like the large hot chicken with spicy red sauce and cheese. It's a space filler. No matter what, you can't go wrong here. Their fresh Italian bread loaves are also outstanding.

Great little mom and pop bakery. Food is delicious. Staff is all so friendly. Best to have cash on you, though I believe there is an atm nearby. Little busy during the week at lunch time, worth the wait on the subs though.

While there isn't much parking, the veggie sandwich I had was absolutely delicious. They also have day-old pastries for 50%, and those chocolate croissants were still fresh (I can't wait to grab more next time I'm there).
