"I would have given a 5 star if I didn't see the lady behind the counter used the same hand (with gloves) to touch money, touch the cash register and take my bread! It is not hygienic at all! A simple use of Thongs could have made everything right and proper! Apparently the gloves are there to keep her hands clean than anything"

Bonfire Bread exceeds all expectations on customer service, presentation and food quality. We have been purchasing their jumbo sourdough loaf once a week since they opened which is just gorgeous! The staff there have always been a delight to chat with and always give you the time of day. The first time I tried one of their cinnamon scrolls and was mind blown. This is hands down the best cinnamon scroll to ever exist and I would consider myself a cinnamon scroll connoisseur trying them at many cafes over the years. I can easily say that the bonfire bread cinnamon scroll is the best of the best! I should mention that the price is very reasonable as well what is always a plus. Thank you Karen and team at bonfire bread for making my morning visits always very enjoyable. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit!

Having tried a few of their breads already I would say my favorites here are the fruit buns and the pain au chocolat. I would give those two items 5 stars. I am probably the worst reviewer for bread having lived in Germany for many years and I judge all bread based on that standard which is slightly unfair. Having said all that I find the bread here a bit too airy and lacking density. It’s the way Aussies like it perhaps? Staff are super nice and friendly and service is quick. Prices are on the high side here but I suppose organic and sustainable costs money. I come here semi regularly and buy bread and the quality is better than most other bakeries in the area.

Quiet a humble surprise finding this lovely little place hiding in bare sight on darling street! We got the quiche, bagels and butterscotch scroll (omg so yummy). the quiche was to die for and the bagels were absolutely fantastic with some salmon and cream cheese, the butterscotch scroll however was a warm, melt-in-your-mouth flavour bomb. The fresh pastry was to die for. Not to mention the extremely helpful and friendly staff pointing out what was their best and always loving a chat! Shoutout to Anna and Bianca for their recommendations. So pleased to have run into this bakery and grateful to have this on our peninsula. Will be here every single week!

I would have given a 5 star if I didn't see the lady behind the counter used the same hand (with gloves) to touch money, touch the cash register and take my bread! It is not hygienic at all! A simple use of Thongs could have made everything right and proper! Apparently the gloves are there to keep her hands clean than anything. What a shame as the cinnamon scroll was so delicious and could easily be one of the best that I have tasted.

What a fantastic addition to Balmain. We've tried the flourless chocolate cake, cheesecake, hot X buns, banana bread and the Kalamata sourdough. All of these have been nothing short of fantastic. While in lockdown we are limiting movement, but Bonfire is on the essentials list. And their service is all done with a smile. Thank you for bringing your products and energy to the Balmain village. ♥️♥️

Love this little hole in the wall bakery! Amazing breads that are made with organic spelt flour, huge variety & all are delicious! Love the sourdough, baguette & focaccia! The cakes are delicious too although a small range. The carrot cake is super moist with a strong carrot flavour which I love. The staff are so friendly & helpful. A little gem!

Nice new little bakery in Balmain. I always get a raisin scroll from these guys as it doesn't have that weird glaze on it and it's not too sweet and not crammed with rasins just enough. The cheese cake is for special occasions as it LAF! :) friendly staff too :)

This bread shop is an absolute gem. The bread is always fresh, and very palatable. Often bread is rough on the tummy, however I find the bread from bonfire to be very easily digestible. I recommend trying the Rye sliced loaf - it makes the best toast!

From the Carrot cake muffins, 48 hour sourdough, (heavenly) cinnamon scrolls, to seedy bagels, this bakery is always turning out the most delicious and fresh baked goods. Just go. Your only regret will be having not gone sooner.

Stumbled upon this place by accident and now I can’t keep away. Bonfire has only Fresh, organic and delicious bread, can’t forget their amazing sandwiches and pastries either. Service is outstanding as well. 100% recommendation.

Sourdough, whole wheat sourdough, bagels & cinnamon buns are all amazing (I’m sure the rest is too). Super reasonably priced for such good breads/pastries. I only get bread & bagels from here.

We’ve tried all sort of breads, pastries and cakes and they’ve all been great. Especially love the wholemeal sourdough which has a beautiful crunchy/chewy texture. Great addition to Balmain!

I don’t know what I love more - the banana bread or the 48 hour fermented sourdough. The ham and salad rolls are also really great. 10/10 would recommend.

  • Gorgie Clark

Such delicious goodies, the carrot cake muffins are my favourite. Amazing value compared to other bakeries. Will always come back to this lovely place.

  • Michelle Stowers

There is nothing like fresh bakery bread at 6.30am in the morning. They have every bread and pastry available and even warm delicious Portuguese tarts.

  • David Jeffery

Just the best breas ever...I have been to many bakeries across Sydney and nothing compares. Try their white sour dough 48 hour fermented - amazing!

  • Matthew Veloso

Don’t typically leave reviews however I found it’d be rude not to given how good their sourdough was! Think I’ve found my new local bakery …

  • Andrew Finnigan

Bought an almond croissant there today it tasted stale and the top was very crumbly and so sugary that had to throw it out. Very disappointed

  • Jessica Bruyn

The best sourdough you’ll ever have! Flourless chocolate cake is to die for too!

Have been to this place 3-4 times, and have always got very fresh bread. I really like the linseed sourdough and the sesame bagels.

  • Amber Star

The white sourdough chewy and stale. It used to nice and fresh. So annoyed.

Grabbed a Cinnamon Roll and a Focaccia this afternoon, both were fantastic. The cinnamon roll is one of the best I've had.
