Even with the bad labeling and awful organization of the books I still consider this bookstore the best bookstore in Arizona - it’s not even close. It’s impossible to find anything and if you are going there to find a specific book - good luck. Having said that, the way I navigate and maneuver through bookstores is probably unique to the common person who comes through the doors. My only objective when entering a bookstore, usually, is to buy a book. Rarely do I go into a bookstore with a specific book in mind. This allows me to peruse through the isles and find books that I would have not have otherwise found if I came to the store with a book in mind. This is what this store is all about. And if you have this mindset when you come in to this store, you will not be disappointed at all. The store has beautiful books and an endless supply of any genre you can think of. The owner is extremely friendly and totally accommodating and helpful if you are looking for something specific. I LOVE this store. And I would say a quarter of my book collection has come from this bookstore alone. I give it 5 stars and hope that other bookstores pop up in the east valley just like it.

Book Gallery is a hidden gem of a bookstore. I say hidden because we were two of maybe five customers in the giant store on a Wednesday morning. Though I didn't spot any recently published books, there were endless shelves and countless titles. Book Gallery sells rare and fine books (per their business card), spanning every genre and category one could imagine. Mike, the owner, spent all the time we were in-store taking business calls, cataloging books, and chatting with a customer about their recent finds. He gave off a sort of wise wizard vibe, very fitting for the owner of a rare books bookstore. I recommend setting aside at least an hour or two to browse, it was more of a museum experience for me. I was grateful for some seating to peruse several treasures I came across, shooting me back in time to when the texts were published.

I shop mostly on Main St. Both locations are exceptional. If you enjoy chatting with talented, versatile book people this is THE PLACE! While shopping I can't help but partially overhear conversations in store and on the phone. I appreciate staffs' attitude. In numerous subjects no one comes close to their variety. No store or library. Even if not usually a reader this is the place to enter into an unfamiliar subject. At this location I have quietly listened to Mike. Many people do. You might think of it as being more lasting than a concert, movie or other entertainment. You may appreciate being able to browse in one place. You will find more than all the libraries in AZ. Condition of books are typically as good, or better, than any other seller.

I want to move in! They have so many wonderful books, I absolutely love this place. The people working there are so friendly and helpful. I was walking around just astonished at this amazing store I had never been to before and a tall gentleman walked by saying very gently that if I needed any help I should just let him know. I went back a few weeks later to see if they had a book I was looking for which they did not but they took my name and number in case they did get it in sometime soon. I then walked around and ended up buying a book that caught my eye during my first visit. Simply driving by the store on the street puts a smile on my face, if you love books I highly recommend this place!

Take in deep breaths as you step into old world. This is what it’s about folks real books. That or I’m just a bibliophile adding to a book collection. Not easy to find a Phoenix book store but this place has a book for everyone. From children’s books to first edition classics, Book Gallery has a neatly organized collection to share. Spend time in the book isle about book collecting in the front, or make your way down to the classics like Tom Sawer. K.W.L., I hope you can try another visit, I would add three stars. No one offered to help but only one person was there when I was at Book Gallery book store. When I asked questions I was helped out.

The people that run the store need to remember that all they are doing is selling books, very nice books but they’re just books. There’s no need to talk down to people and be rude and pre-judge them. Sometimes in book stores people don’t know what they’re looking for until they see a book or section of books and get inspired to peruse further and deeper and find something that they may have forgotten about and decide they want. Heaven forbid you walk into the wrong section and pick up a book because if you do be prepared to get scolded. Arrogant, condescending, rude and out of touch.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Kind of overwhelming at first because it's so big. The woman at the front desk was able to help me find the book I was looking for, I mean she knew exactly where it was. My son loved it also, he's 15 so he's into video games but our visit her really reignited his passion for reading, he picked out a couple of books to get the price of them and now has a goal in mind to work to get them. The smell of the book store is also amazing, nothing like the smell of books. Thank you for the amazing experience definitely going to go back.

You couldn't ask for a finer bookstore of its type. An excellent collection of older books in addition to a variety of sections where you will be delighted by the unique books that you will discover. In addition to the offerings that will appeal to those interested in history, the arts, or other specialized subjects, there is quite a selection of popular novels. On a recent trip there I found a book of Art Deco era paintings, a dictionary of French slang and their English equivalents, and a rare Louis Lamour novel. . .in German. I have always enjoyed my visits.

Best bookstore I’ve been to in a while. I travel a lot and visit bookstore in different areas. This is by far the best place to get a book. The staff do a good job at leaving you alone if you want to look by yourself or if you are looking to find something in particular, they are more than willing to help you out. They are very knowledgeable and kind. Since this is a used bookstore, they have a wide range of types of books from $2 to $100, depending on the book. There is just something different about this atmosphere. A must go for any literary adventurer

  • Thane Chase

Very large selection of many, many books. The owner was extremely knowledgeable about the layout of his store, when I asked, he guided me directly to the philosophy section without getting out of his chair. We went in to sell some books and he went through the two boxes I brought, each individual book and took what he wanted. Decent price, I'll say, considering I know nothing about the value of books. But it was a much needed reprieve from this pandemic. I suggest at least looking at this place.

  • Mazanec Mischief

This is the bookstore of my imagination. It is the place I will bring all my books friends to forevermore. I find a treasure every time I walk through the doors. I stumbled on this place by accident and now I can't stop thinking about it and telling people about it. If you are looking for something unique or hard to find J have no doubt they can get it for you. And even better, the owner knows about books and I learn something when I buy something. Get here as soon as you can!

  • Benjamin Lyle

This is a great place! There's definitely a large selection, going all the way from used paperbacks to high quality signed first editions. The price range matches the selection. The gentleman working was quiet but helpful when I purchased a book. He made a great recommendation on another author who was similar to the book I bought. I thought it was great because I knew the other author's work. And the atmosphere was complete with used book/library smell. ;P

  • Vince L

Never stopped in here for some reason, but finally popped in on a whim. This place is awesome. It’s a bit dark and feels bit overwhelming from the sheer volume packed in there, but what a great collection! Lots of high quality hardbacks with many, many books dating back as early as the 30’s. The gentleman running the store is pleasant, engaging, and seems like the kinda person who genuinely likes to help. Definitely doing gift shopping here in the future.

  • Gavin Halfman

This bookstore is awesome, from the moment you walk in your head will be jerking left to right taking in titles you've only probably heard about. And Mike and his assistant are there to serve and will do whatever it takes to find what your looking for, he's stayed late for us numerous times without a complaint just to make sure we leave happy. So if your looking for a new read or just want to browse a intriguing place book gallery is the spot for sure .

  • Ty Seibel

It's magical. A beautiful bookstore with a huge selection of titles, plus a large collection of curiosities that are just fun to look at - pretty old books, art, maps, posters... The thoughtful owner knows every book in stock and will help you find things and call around if he doesn't have what you're looking for. I left yesterday with 6 books in excellent condition for $30. So happy to have a wonderful bookstore to wander. You could spend hours...

  • Andy Amaya

I come by to check the massive philosophy section. Wonderful collection and very pleasant, and interactive staff. Also they take requests depending on the book! I recently bought a book (it wasn't to highly priced, about $10), it was overcharged by accident, and was given the book for inconvenience. Thank you so much for working with me! Definitely recommend for philosophy and other collectible old literature, and great staff!

  • John Kutasz

What a spectacularly curated selection of books! I'm thrilled to be headed back home with a signed copy of a book by my favorite author. In addition to an excellent souvenir, I had a delightful time wandering the aisles, appreciating their stock, and 30 years of accumulating classic bookcases to display them all in. If you've got a few free hours, this is quite possibly the best indoor location in Phoenix to spend them.

  • Carmen Alderton

Stumbled upon this after grabbing a cider next door and it exceeded all expectations. Beautiful selection of used books, many very old (and in good condition), definitely encouraged me to read outside of my comfort zone and try new genres. The prices are written in pencil on the inside of each book cover, and for the most part were very reasonable. Absolutely will go back again and again, this place is a treasure.

  • Amber Blackmon

One of the best book stores I’ve ever been in! There are so many original copies in excellent condition. The store is very well organized and all books are located in beautiful cases and shelves. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Mike was extremely knowledgeable on the material and was able to answer any questions. I will definitely be frequenting this store!

  • Douglas Marrs

The metro Phoenixs' best bookshop, its' Mesa store is nearly as excellent. If you are a bibliophile or even a casual reader this store has the finest collection of rare books and recent novels. Plan on spending an hour or two perusing the stacks, so many large format books, so make it three. Mark is an excellent resource and guide to this extensive collection.

  • Daniel V

Incredible collection of books. The owner Mike is an amazing resource. If you need a book for school or leisure give the Book Gallery a chance. Support an amazing local business. Prices are very reasonable and if you want a nice edition of a book you love, the Book Gallery carries a huge collection of rare hard cover books. Check it out if you are in the area.

  • Benito Garcia

Good books, the gentleman was very nice. The thin black haired lady working is helpful to take you the direction where you can find books, however she looks annoyed and is rude. No friendliness or welcoming feeling comes from her. I recommend this place if you're looking for good books, but don't expect to feel very welcomed if she's working.

  • Willard Jones

Great bookstore!! This gentleman has been open for thirt years. The bookstore is one of a couple that survived. He has a very unique collection. I stopped by looking for books on or by authors of the Beat Generation. Two shelves were dedicated to the subject alone. I definitely recommend this shop. Will be returning soon.

  • Dakota Savage

Truly an undiscovered gem for book lovers. Looking for rare finds? They have them; need a book youve been searching for? They'll obtain it. The owner and his son are wonderful people who will go tbe extra length for their customers and offer great deals on your next find. I could get lost forever in a place like this.

  • Jon Brinton

Book Gallery has an excellent selection of used and out of print books. In addition, Mike has a great selection of Antiquarian, 1st Edition, Signed and special edition books across many genres, along with personable and helpful staff. An outstanding place to discover new items and add to any collection.

  • L P

One of the rare book stores in phoenix that actually sells books you might want to read. The staff knows the selection very well. Exploring the shop means you may find an awesome treasure (something that cant be done online). This is a place for people who love books and have an array of interest.

  • Cynthia Eaton

This store is on par with antique and rare bookstores I’ve shopped in Edinburgh and Inverness (Leaky’s). Great collection, fair prices, knowledgeable and helpful staff. The bonus is the great ju-ju in the air. Great place to leave the world in your car and lose yourself in the isles if books.

  • Thomas Salerno

Great store with an amazing selection. A great place to find a rare gem as a gift for a bibliophile or something unique for your own collection. In addition to a large selection of fiction, nonfiction and western, they have children's and young adult literature. Prices are very reasonable.

  • William Fay

This is your traditional, old fashioned, musty, dark, used bookstore. Much bigger selection than pretty much any of the other used bookstores in Phoenix. I found the pricing more than fair and in fairness most nicer, newer used bookstores charge a premium which I did not find here.

  • Jessica Ries

One of the best bookshops I've been to; a huge selection of great books and beautiful editions. All the prices were fair and comparable or better than online services for used books (ebay, abebooks etc.). The owner and staff at the Phoenix shop are very knowledgeable and helpful.

  • James Stewart

The staff is extremely knowledgeable and it feels like a place that promotes readers of any kind. The books are varied and range from typical novels to rare tomes of classic knowledge. I Give it 5 stars from the exceptional experience I had for my first time. Thanks Mike!!

  • Jonathan Adler

I thought this would be an average book shop. Instead, I found a huge selection of books on many topics. There are also a large number of quality, hardbound books and unusual, hard to find ones. The store is much larger than average with several aisles. Highly recommended.

  • T

I love this bookstore I like how full it is how many options there are. The gentleman behind the counter is usually the same gentleman I believe he's the owner and been there quite a while. I would recommend this place because you're bound to find what you're looking for

  • Magnus Hawthorne

Book gallery might just be the best kept secret in central phoenix. Mike has composed a masterpiece collection for every human, or book hundred fantastical creature in search of knowledge or escape from reality. Stop in, disappear for a little while. You won’t regret it.

  • Alexis Magness

This is our local book store, and we've been going here for years. Such an incredible selection of books you'll never find elsewhere. Alex is super helpful, listened to my needs and tracked down what I was searching for. Small town feel but World Wide selection!

  • Charles P

Very cool store! Feels kinda like walking through a book lovers private library. So much selection overflowing the aisles. I could spend hours checking out everything they have. Looking forward to visiting again — when it’s not 117°F! …

  • Russell L

Very large store with incredibly large selection of old and rare books. Some of the books are over 100 years old or more. Hence why some are pricey. Very good place to get lost in. Will visit as often as possible. Definitely recommend this place.

  • Carol McWhirter

Central location, well organized book store with very knowledgeable and helpful staff. The owner is on site most of the time as well. Their inventory is constantly changing so it is seldom that I leave this store without finding a new treasure.

  • Rob Wagner

I was in Phoenix on vacation and checking out the used bookstores in town. Book Gallery was my favorite hands down. The owner, Mike, is a wealth of knowledge and generous with his time. Their selection is remarkable. You won't be disappointed!

  • Heather Rivera

Seriously excellent place to find books on in many genres - amazing original prints in pristine condition as well as your unique budget finds for the casual reader (like myself). Highly recommend spending a few hours as others have suggested!

  • Rebecca Rodriguez Keogh

Mike Reilly is the most knowledgeable expert (not just my opinion-it is common knowledge) on so much, but I have only consulted him regarding antique books, and I have learned over several years, that his reputation precedes him, but cannot

  • Frederic Shapiro

This jewel needs to come with a warning label! Don't be alarmed when you completely lose track of time here, then proceed to blow your budget on your new-found treasures. But, it's hard to imagine having more fun anywhere else!

  • Sir Tanon

You'll find books here that you would never find at any other valley bookstore. They have leather bound classics, dusty tomes, and so much more, alongside stacks of modern books. You don't must check it out for yourself.

  • Nick Kulesa

This was quite a find of a bookstore. Large collection of literature books, biographies and collectibles. Not really a bookstore for children, but that doesn't mean you won't find something for them here.

  • Laura Cummings-Leita

Great store! Very knowledgeable and passionate owner who cares deeply for books. Great collection of older books and collectible books as well. Nice bargain racks out front to look for a happy accident.

  • Jeff Blackman

As far as used books, one of the best. An expansive and varied collection of books. The store front belies the large interior. It was hard not to spend hours browsing the shelves. Highly recommended.

  • Emerson “Chance” Keenan

Giant book gallery. Get lost in this place and find a good read. The nice man showed me the lay of the land (gallery) and the rest was history. Place is organized quite well for the amount of books.

Lovely little shop with an incredible selection. Owner and employee, Alex, was very nice and helpful. Prices are totally fair. If you're a book collector in the area, it's a gem.

  • Andres Green

You probably won’t find the latest bestseller on the shelves, but instead an incredible array of literature spanning the decades. Fun place to grab a coffee and wander around.

  • Shae Slaughter

  • Phil Blake

Succeeds well in the two essential attributes of a used book store: large and really interesting inventory and pricing driven by availability and scarcity.

  • Linda Leitz

What a fabulous huge used book store! Staff is helpful, but not in your face. A wonderful place to get lost - physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

  • Mara

This is a unique, homey bookstore. It smells like vintage books. There are piles of new inventory yet to be priced. Honestly, it’s kind of chaotic good.
