Boom Island is great! We love the view of downtown and on Wednesdays we had a hoop jam out there where everyone brings their Light Hoops and Flo toys, the dj sets up the speaker and everyone hangs out together and practices their moves or learns some new ones from a friend. It was really cool. It's died down now a bit, but maybe it will pick back up! Oh yeah, their is a BOAT LAUNCH HERE, so you can travel up and down the Mighty Mississippi in your watercraft if that's your thing. There are also a ton of trails and paths that are great for walking your dog, riding your bike, or just a romantic stroll, perhaps. The park closes at 10 pm so don't stay too long after or your car might get a ticket! Oh, don't forget to give this a thumbs up if this review was helpful! You can write one too! Have fun!!!!
Playground
I don't remember ever seeing a playground here, but I am SURE you'll find one! It's really a great park!
Restrooms
I believe there is a public restroom on site and a couple of Porta Potty's! They are kept clean and not scary at all!
Dog-friendliness
Dogs are very welcome here. Just remember to pick up if they poop! Leashes are encouraged, but if you find yourself alone, there is so much room for your pooch to explore!
Picnic area
There is plenty of room for a picnic rain or shine! There are Pavillion shelters in case the weather plays tricks on you, or enjoy the open grassy areas!

Its a very beautiful park to be at & to explore what the park has to offer to & what not.. Including features of astonishing wonder, All with-in a thriving urban setting. Hour's are: 6am to Midnight in developed area's 6am to 10pm in undeveloped area's The lighthouse is wonderful to look at or to see, One of the Boom Islands landmarks features is the miniature lighthouse that sits on the North side of the park.. There's also a paid parking lot. They even have a Youth-line; Summer kick-off, It's a year-round program that provides membership at participating recreation centers. Boom Island Park should be one of the best parks in the city but it falls flat when you go. There is a lot of potential here (being along the river, the places where families can gather to grill and eat, a Boat Tours launch, etc) but it suffers from a few different things. First is how Plymouth Ave cuts it off from the soon to be built Graco Park and bike/pedestrian trail north. Second, there really should be more tree cover in the park especially since the large green space is not well suited for sports or games except for maybe flying a kite. Third, it lacks a great food option nearby like how the Sea Salt Eatery is for Minnehaha. It looks like the first issue will eventually be resolved by the Park Board and I hope the other issues are too.

This park is sort of weird in that it connects to 2 other parks but it's a really nice place to go. There are modern restrooms, tons of parking, a playground paved trails, and plenty of places to get a good look at downtown as well as the river. The actual lighthouse is king of small and unimpressive in my opinion, however it is well maintained and looks good. There is also an "observation deck" area where you can view the lighthouse as well as a boat launch.
Playground
It didn't look the most modern, but I also didn't go too close to it. I hate kids.
Restrooms
They are in a permanent building and not just port a potties!
Dog-friendliness
I saw tons of people with dogs. I hate dogs.

Upriver from Nicollet Island, this is a roughly 22 acre park with nice riverside seating, canoe and bike rentals, walking/bike paths, play area, picnic area, grill and restroom. A small truss bridge, once used for railroads, now for pedestrians, connects Boom Island to the north side of Nicollet Island. This is no longer an island since the back channel has been filled in, much like Harriet Island. It gets its name from the booms used to direct logs flowing downstream to their respective owner's sawmills, in the days before the flour milling heyday. Terrific variety of views of the Minneapolis skyline, this would be a great place for sunset photography.

Arguably the best park in Minneapolis for views and close to people and fun. Easily accessible and always beautiful. Fun areas to explore by the railroad tracks. A play ground that looks bomb, I always like a good sand pit ‍♀️ the river is a looker from here and tends to be less busy than stone arch and there is actually space to run and play. The summer actually brings quite a bit of wild life such as birds and butterflies. Also I have taken wedding pictures here that turned out pretty bomb. And had my fair share of bbqs.

  • L. Schneider

This park is always very clean and spacious. A wonderful mix of lots of green space as well as picnic areas and stone to sit at. There's something here for everyone. The only thing that I don't like is that the water is still turned off. If all these stores and offices are open, water should also be turned back on. Especially when it's still in the '80s in September. I drank my water and was out and had to leave because I couldn't find any there.

  • Ryan

What a beautiful park right next to the river! There is a lot of space to move around. There are also a lot of paths to ride a bike. There is a small play area but it looks rather old and beat up. I noticed it was made out of wood. There is a parking lot. We actually came from Nicolette Island where a small bridge takes you over the river to Boom Island Park. The sunsets are beautiful. There are a few mosaic pieces that are worth checking out.

  • Vaishnavi Soundar

Great place for running or walking, or just lounging in the grass reading a book. The river view is relaxing and there are great seats along the river to sit and enjoy the view. Spotted a few people fishing there, so guess that's an option as well. Very dog friendly place, and good for picnics as well. Parking is available at many points, and is cheap. If you drive around a bit you can find some free street parking and walk up to the park.

  • Kim Baltimore

Very peaceful place beautiful sight you can see downtown the nature and it just made me feel so good when I came back a couple of weeks ago I live here now and I'll always walk down through boom Island
Dog-friendliness
Yes it's doggy friendly and you can walk your dog and the nice place to take your dog it's that place there beautiful sight
Picnic area
Picnic air is lovely all I can say is a lovely side out here in this area

  • Jenn Left

Boom Island Park is a small park with great views of downtown Minneapolis. All of Minneapolis's parks seem connected to each other and many were quite crowded, but Boom Island Park is separate from them by a bit North of town and few people were there when I visited. It offers a walk along the River, views of a lighthouse on a river island, some public art and a pedestrian bridge to Nicollet Island.

  • kathleen R

I ended up here by accident. It was small but breath taking. Great place to have a gathering
Restrooms
The restrooms were getting a makeover. There was a parks guy painting there. So they will be fresh and ready
Dog-friendliness
Great pleace to walk your dog. I saw a few people with dogs
Picnic area
They has an amazing Firestone thing. So bring some wood and enjoy the fire

  • leo spott

For the longest time I did not know his pro existed. Now that I do I have to say it is one of my favorites. The views of downtown Minneapolis are second to none and this is a perfect place for a summer picnic. Pro tip, leaving from this lark on bike or in a car you have quick and easy access to the really pretty roads running along the river. It is really nice to do.

  • Cheryl Heitkamp

This very lightly city park is vast and on the river. There are some pavilions and tables and a nice walking path that leads to Nicollet Island. They seem to keep it litter free, but this summer's lack of rain leaves the grass very dry. The river is the attraction and never disappoints. But for picnics, frisbee and dog walking (on leash) this is a great location.

  • Chris Becker

As someone that has lived Central Minnesota and never really came to the cities or seen fit to recently moved closer and had discovered this on nearby activities to do on my Google Maps highly recommend it I'm Blown Away by the beauty that our state has in the city in itself not just the outside of the Cities highly recommend

  • Michael O'Leary

This park is fantastic for a picnic for larger groups or a stroll beside the Mississippi. The shelters have cool ovenlike grills inside. Plenty of space for kids to run, fly kites, and throw any manner of ball around. Great view of downtown skyline and the parking lot has never been full when I have been there.

  • Adrian Lundeen-Hornung

A quick walk from downtown or the Northeast business district. Wide open green space with paved trails, great for walking, biking, etc. Cool view of the Minneapolis skyline. Be sure to take the trails over to Nicollet island to see some historic homes and the graffiti art near the railroad tracks.

  • Eric Schultz

Because of the river boat tours no longer in operation, The park hasn't looked the same. Lack of general landscape maintenance and trash along all of the important views of the river/downtown skyline. Really sad/waist of a park that has cost quite a bit of money to the city/local neighborhood's.

  • Jenni Smith

It's a very nice park to walk and/or jog at.. it's got different trails you can take.. the scenery is beautiful.... It's a peaceful, safe environment where you can bring a date, or just find a place to meditate by yourself, and enjoy nature. Either way....I highly recommend checking it out. :)

  • Noel Voss

Very pretty park, in my opinion. You can access trails along the Mississippi River. You can walk to Nicolet Island and St. Anthony Main in less than a half hour. There are bike trails and bathrooms and a couple picnic areas. You need to pay for parking, though. It's pretty easy to get to.

  • Michael Redman

You can step right up to the river, and it has great views of downtown & the riverfront, and big open spaces to play in. I'm eternally surprised it's never a very busy place - but also know people have lots of other great park options, as well. One of my favorite places in the city.

  • Wallace Burchett

It was a festival celebrating polish ancestry. We had fun, but they're really weren't many spots for drinking water and sitting. I try not to be a pessimist, so I will have to say that the view of downtown Minneapolis and being alongside the Mississippi River is pretty amazing

  • Arnold Rossa

One of the best parks located directly next to minneapolis, lots of room to play , great for family's huge and small a playground a cool Lil bridge a boat launch for fun on the Mississippi, just hands down a very chill place to hang out or take a walk. 5 star

  • Rasikanand Harvind

Quite park near downtown. Great views of the city. Parking is paid. There's an ok-ish number of spots. Covered seating with fireplaces available. Restrooms as well. Can get windy being next to the river. Always someone jogging here regardless of weather.

  • Minneapolis Photography

Best Minneapolis Park to get a feel for the metro area. Fantastic views of downtown skyline, Mississippi Riverfront and paths leading to other areas like the Stone Arch Bridge, Nicollet Island and Main Street. There is no Island here, but nobody cares.

  • Quinn Kelley

One of my favorite parks! Such awesome views of the city and many well maintained, paved walking paths. On top of it the park is huge, AND it's connected to Nicollet Island via the footbridge "River Xings" on Google maps. Lots to see and explore here!

  • Pete Boisclair

I’ve been here for many kinds of events including the Autumn Brew Review and for Amy Klobuchar’s announcement for the start of her Presidential campaign. I’ve come here with friends as their dogs and it’s a great place to bike around and through too!

  • Tarun Shetty

Good serene place to watch downtown Minneapolis view from far. The place has a lot of greenery. There is river flowing besides the park which looks so surreal. Good place to spend time with family & larger groups. Also a good place to get your pets.

  • Michael Link

One of the best places to take photos in Minneapolis. Wide open park area with nearby access to biking and walking paths. Frequent police presence makes you feel safe and keeps teenagers from smoking the devil's lettuce and drinking fire water.

  • Bonnie Wilcox

When it is 75 degrees in Minneapolis in November, his can it not be wonderful? I gathered with friends to pray at the new Memorial to Victims of Sexual Violence. Signage to find this work of art is non-existent for now, but worth the search.

  • Narciso M. Salas

I love the view of the city from here. Especially at night when all the big buildings are lit up, it looks majestic. Its peaceful by the edge of the Mississippi river, you can hear the water roll gently, you feel the breeze in your hair. I

  • Andrew Tralle

Amazing park with fantastic views of the city. The playground equipment is old, but in relatively good shape. A couple things need fixing. One swing set is missing swings and one piece of equipment is currently just stairs with a boarded

  • Jodi Olauson

Great outdoor space. Lots of open grass. Shelters weren't bad. We rented a shelter for a grad party. Had to kick people out of the shelter since they had set up in the space we rented. They didn't seem to know that you were supposed to

I love going to Boom Island! I walk my dog there and fish. Caught some good fish there too! There is a boat launch. It's tucked off the current of the river, its easy to load and unload the boat or kayaks or whatever you have.

Such a beautiful park. Plenty of ways to enjoy nature, exercise, play various games like volleyball. Parking cost money but there are some free streets near by. I definitely recommend planning a visit to boom island park.

Nice park! Great place for photos! You can avoid paying for parking by not parking in the park. One of the best boat launches on the river! They also have water taxi's available that will take you on a nice river cruise.

  • Patrick Landis

Beautiful park on the mighty Mississippi with sprawling views of downtown. I'd love to go back in the warmer months. If you're going here to do some walking, the paths are nice and clear, but there are lots of icy spots.

  • Lucas Johnson

Nice boat launch.. other than the conoe/kayak crowd that overwhelms the launch site while trying to put a boat in/out. Parking can be a bit hectic, but free if you park on the road. Nice area to tie up once launched.

  • Musa Ibne Mannan Imon (KP Imon)

It was a great place for having a get together. We played frisbee, football and catch at the same time before dinner. Highly recommended if you have 30-70 people and don't know where to go for a great meet-up.
