"Just another 5 star review for food" or is this place really good? Well, we all love pizza, we all eat pizza and we all have had good and bad pizza. I would say, even to the non-food lovers among us: pizza is a good measuring stick. But where to start with Burruso's? Lets break it down into my a few categories: 1. The actual food 2. Service 3. Decor 4. Overall experience 1. The food: You don't go to Borruso's for the first time and NOT order a pizza. I mean their other food is amazing as well, but a famous and classic pizzeria will be judged on their pizza. From toppings to base I can honestly say I have not had better. I always like to order in the lines of a blue-cheese pizza, because I feel most places just slap on the cheese and expect it to be 'good enough'; so I ordered their blue-cheese and fig pizza to test their mettle. Aaand it was very very very good. The base was perfectly wood-fired, ample amount of (different types of) cheese(s) and most of all BALANCED. Kudos to balancing the sweet and blue-cheese flavour with the richness of all the other cheese as well. Despite the richness, there was balance to be found. 2. Service. Actually a bit on the OTT side, our waitron was at the table as often as can be, to see if we need anything. He was 'real' (so to speak), friendly, polite and efficient with his service - could not hope for better. 3. Decor: Best word for this is 'rustic'. It almost gives the old 'pub' feel, with different table sizes, wooden chairs and a bit on the dark side - with the hearty hymn of laughter and people enjoying the food. I might make it look a bit cleaner imho, but don't remove the rustic feel, it makes it authentic. 4 Overall: Will I go back? Yes! Was it money well spent? Yes! Would I recommend it to friends and fam? Yes! Not often I can say I was happily surprised by my experience. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys good pizza, pasta and just a good time with family or friends.

We've had a better experience in the past. The manager was not forthcoming, grumpy, miserable, unfriendly old sod! When arrived requested a table which was empty, as we were told telephonically that it's a first come first serve. We were meeting 2 friends there. He slammed menus on another table and said "That's for 6!" The table he placed us at was hardly part of the restaurant. My husband refused to sit, and I sat so long. We looked around for our friends and didn't see them. Hubby phoned them and they said that they are in the restaurant. We found them stuck away in a dingy corner of the restaurant with no other people around! Grumpy eventually let us sit at the table for 6. I think he reserves "certain" tables for "certain" people. Our friends had pizza and lasagna, which the say wasn't too bad. Hubby and I had our usual seafood pizza, which used to have prawns on, now have baby shrimps on, which you had to look for. Pizza was good nevertheless. Dessert was our usual Banana Flambè, this one came so burnt that it was inedible, which we sent back. Overall it was a so-so evening. Will I go back? Only if Grumpy becomes more approachable.

We went here for the first time last night where three people with me ordered a small pasta each. The waitress read their orders back to them, reiterating "small" multiple times. A very generous portion size returned. Unfortunately, it was pretty mediocre and none of them could finish it. But this is where it gets truly bad. The bill came and they had given us 3 large pastas instead. We took it up with the waitress, where a waitress we didn't even have claimed that we said large and basically accused us of lying. The fact that she wasn't even our waitress and thought she was our waitress either suggests gross incompetence or just lies. Now, mistakes happen, but we had to fight tooth and nail to not pay an exorbitant additional R60 for something we didn't order. The manager/supervisor accused us of lying, practically, and was incredibly rude, saying that we upset the waitress. A waitress who lied blatantly about first being our waitress and then apparently mishearing us. We finally won out, left the food that we didn't order, and left. Never coming back. Summary: Horrible, condescending and deceptive service. Yes, customers lie sometimes. But in general, it is safer for your business to trust them. You've lost at least 4 people and their families as customers for life. Be better.
Lovely restaurant, lovely server (as they always are) - her name was Sye (most likely the incorrect spelling). The manager behind the counter comes across as VERY rude and stressed. I’m a regular customer and have noticed what I would describe as a decline in his demeanour over the last year. He manages the payments and phone orders to my knowledge. To this manager: Please consider speaking to your staff with more decency. Last night you spoke to them as if they were incompetent - which they are not. I watched the interactions in disbelief. The entire team is working hard and doing their best in a very busy setting - your visible stress levels only add more pressure to the working environment. Might be best to be working out of the public eye if this is the way you manage yourself in a fast paced/high stress environment. Will always be back because this is a special little place to me, but would prefer to not see these interactions and leave feeling horrible for the staff.

Went with family from overseas since we have grown up with this place but also because it is the only pizza and pasta place that is delicious beyond say. Pizza is thin base, with amazing toppings and superb fresh chilli on the side. Favourites are the 'foccaccio' and the 'no name brand', as well as the pasta 'alfredo', which is creamy and so full of authentic flavours. There is a very unique and special quality and character of Borrussos that makes it stand out. From the colours of choice, different furnitures, old victorian style bathroom to the wood fired oven surrounded by money notes, and of course the vintage alcohol bottles and the team pictures throughout the years on display. Lovely owners and such cheerful young ladies and gents working there give such a great vibe and an atmosphere worth wanting more. We have and will always enjoy every moment... Keep up the incredible work and thank you team for bringing smiles to everyone's faces! See you soon, as you will say, pizza will never ever go wrong:) Take care everybody.

Such a lovely dinner out with family on my first visit to Cape Town. In Kennilworth is where this quaint, traditional Italian gem can be found. Think 'Nonna's' kitchen - cozy corners, mood lighting, mismatched chairs, and the chatter of happy customers clinking wine glasses and enjoying generously portioned, delicious food. Perfect pizza - thin crust with lovely quality toppings. I had the blue cheese and fig preserve foccacia to start and the Puttanesca fettucine for mains. Brilliant. My family (who make this a regular stop) highly recommend the Lasagne - I'll absolutely have that next time

Burruso’s has been one of our favourite Italian restaurants in Cape Town. We visited them last night - was seated outside in the garden - we love it - was cold but we insisted on sitting there - Covid & all. Daniel seated us - waitress took a little long to assist due to it being very busy - so he returned to check on us. He took our table over from the waitress assigned - excellent and attentive service from there on. We ordered the Alfredo pasta and we loved it - it was the best we ever had. Pizza - pear, Camembert, bacon and caramelized onions - excellent - but that pasta - oh yummy Excellent restuarant, food and service - we loved it. Please visit them in Kenilworth.

Had a lovely meal. We arrived in their 4hrs of loadshedding, but they are still able to operate! The place was packed inside, but their lovely outside area at the back had some open tables. Because it was loadshedding, it was quite dark outside, and there was only a candle on our table that would blow out from the breeze. The service was quite slow, and it took ages for a waiter to take just drink orders, and once we ordered drinks and meals, it was also quite a wait for the food. However I think it was worth it! Thoroughly enjoyed our pizzas and pastas!

Always have the most delicious food and quick service. We are always in and out of there in 40 minutes because the food comes out so quickly and is so yummy that we eat it in seconds. I highly recommend a big bowl of gluten-free paste and the FAB pizza. This is a go-to pizza spot in the southern suburbs. Update: It's still the best pizza and pasta in Cape Town. The service was so amazing and quick.

Gluten-free pizza bases and pasta are available with additional charge. It's just as yummy and totally delicious.
Amazing pizza and pasta dishes. A big variety of choices to satisfy everyone's tastes and preferences. I like the thin bases and saw pizzas come out with fresh cold tomato added on top definitely will try next time. Our waitress was friendly but service a little slow due to business of restaurant-however highly recommend Borrusos. I had the feta, and pizza (FAB on menu) and added smoked chicken. Excuse the slice taken out pic couldn't wait to dive in.

Food is always excellent and consistent - wood-fired pizzas and fresh pasta - tasty, hot and arrives soon after ordering. Banana flambé is always a fun experience for dessert, I always tip extra if my waiter manages to not burn themselves to bits . Waiters are generally great, some are brilliant (like Matt). They allow you to bring your dog in if you sit in the outside courtyard which is a real bonus. They even bring a bucket of water for your doggo. Overall we have never been disappointed and really enjoy our time there.
Food is so good, service is excellent, but I'll probably never do sit down again. Bar and outside seating area are super run down and in desperately in need of tlc. Outside is honestly a bit ugly and picnic tables dirty, especially between grooves and full of glitter. Received a dirty glass so just drank from bottle. Brooms and chairs on roof. I've been to rustic, this is just run down. Has a lot of potential.

I’ve been going to Borruso’s with my family since I was a child, about 20 years ago. After living overseas for a number of years I had the privilege of visiting Borruso’s again a few weeks ago, and I’m happy to say it has not changed one bit. Still the best service with the best pizza makers (who knew my order without me asking) and a warm and homely environment that screams authentic Italian. I will make sure Borruso’s is on my to-do list every time I come back to South Africa- my favourite pizza place ever.
Extremely well priced compared to most restaurants. Food is definitely up there with other gourmet places. The point of sales system could definitely do with an improvement (replacement) and and cherry on top would be allowing booking for large groups in advanced. All in all, I could definitely recommend to friend and family for the quality and price of food but wouldn't recommend if bill splitting is a required as you will struggle to understand what is what.

We happened to visit on a rather busy Monday dinner service. Staff were very quick to accommodate my table of 6 with delicious pizzas and pastas. We loved the homey feeling of the decor. The only slight problem (not really an issue for others haha) was that we found the wine list quite short and could do with 2-3 more options to choose from. Great place, will definitely visit again with friends.

I ordered takeout through Uber eats. The food is tasty but I ordered a large pasta (they have two options; medium and large) which included chicken livers, I added extra chicken livers to that order and I'm very disappointed in the portion size of both the pasta and the 2x chicken livers. Especially for the price I really hoped they would have a decent portion size....

Really lekker local pizza spot! Food is super tasty and consistently good waiters are friendly and efficient and prices are also decent! The interior & exterior of the restaurant could do with some work (kitchen is very exposed to the public and looks pretty dirty) so that throws you off a bit if you’re a first time visitor. I’ll be back purely for the food! But would warn you if you’re a germaphobe or sensitive to some rough food prep
By far my favourite pizza in Cape Town. With great pizza, pasta and calzone options this restaurant has a fantastic vibe and delicious food.

Wow, how have I not known about you all this time? It is difficult to describe this place... Sort of rundown but fantastic all at the same time. Good food at a very fair price. Received a warm welcome to a full restaurant. Your waiters also need a special mention- I don’t think I’ve experienced any other like them in similar establishments. EVER. You have won a customer and I’ll be back. And bring others!
The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They don't rush you so you can relax and enjoy the visit. You can order a half / half pizza for those of us who cannot decide on just 1 pizza flavour. You can also take your own wine

To wait 30 minutes outside, No problem. Once seated, orders placed immediately, to wait then a further 1 hour 45 minutes, Problem. ..... then an owner behaving like, "AL Capone" that we are the problem, not that the Takeaway Section is dominating their Business, and hence the wait.

This restaurant just proves, NEVER "judge a book by its cover". Once you go, you'll understand exactly what I mean. Awesome atmosphere, the best pizza I have had in a long time, staff are very covid19 compliant. We had the friendliest, funniest, fantastic waitress. Definitely going again soon to try another item on the menu.

Busy place with no table reservations. Had lasagne and pizza, both very tasty and reasonable portions. Service incredibly slow, been there three times and same each time. They seem more focussed on serving the take-way motorbike deliveries and neglecting the eat-in customers….
Cosy spot that's a hidden little gem, great pizza, very rustic and homely atmosphere, always very busy at dinner times so you would need to get there early to grab a table or make a reservation. If you want an Italian family style experience in Kenilworth then give it a try.
Always enjoy my visits here. I especially like the fact that one can hear people talk without a noisy background.

This is one of my most favorite dinner spots. They have the best pizza and pasta in Cape Town. I love the unpretentious atmosphere and menu items are well priced. Such great value for money.
What a fun place, the kids loved it, the pizza was magnificent, truly nothing like it, the staff were brilliant! Love love love the place. I'd have pizza there everyday if I were allowed to!
Another wonderful meal. The lasagne is so good I literally dream about it ! And even on a chilly evening you can still sit outside in the under cover area Family favourite for sure !
Been going for years, pizza has been delicious every time. Totally worth it. A couple more vegetarian pizzas would be nice, but if you're an omnivore, there are loads of options.
This place has stood the test of time and still delivers. Had a few pizzas there the other night and they were delicious. Service always spot on and owner run. Well done guys!
