Sunday 2nd: After buying the most expensive and underwhelming coffee up the road a ways on my late lunch break I walked by BSB to grab a couple of plain croissants for home. I checked my CC last night, as I do often, and behold, BSB Newtown charged me $32.32 for two $5 croissants! No other customers in the shop at the time, so a busy store can't be blamed. It ain't hard to press the correct button. I emailed last night requesting a refund. I appreciate it's a weekend so I'll wait a couple of business days. Not cool guys. Saturday 9th update: Jessica from HO reached out and refunded the overcharge. The prompt resolution deserves an updated rating. Thanks team.
Bread and pastries are on most days a yes! I would say 3-4/5 croissants I had there were great but when they aren't good they are proper bad. I cannot recommend the coffee. I got an iced chai latte. Steep price and undrinkable coffee. I walked out the shop and when I took my first sip it was all just syrup. The coffee my friend got was burned and tasted watery. Very disappointing. Especially at that price point. $6.30 for a small Chai in a large cup due to ice cubes... This was the first time I had to throw out a drink. Though I have a sweet tooth, I couldn't make myself drink it.
We went here because of the queue which was stretched out down the road! Items selling out quickly but also restocking regularly. Bought a sausage roll. The customer service was friendly and quick. Very small seating area - would sit about 5 people between the two tables. Great for grabbing lunch on the go. The sausage roll pastry was light and fluffy and one of the best pastries I've tasted. The middle was unusual - almost had a hint of aniseed, and was not a sausage roll filling i'd tasted before. I would eat here again and would recommend to friends.
Twice I got cheese & tomato croissants (not warmed up) and both times the tomato was off and the texture of the tomato was as if it had been frozen and the croissant was a little chewy as if it was a day old. Both times I returned them and I was told I was wrong and that the tomatoes where cut fresh.....I'm not a chef but I do know what a fresh tomato tastes like compared to a frozen going off tomato. Maybe that is why they warm the croissants up without giving you the option - to hide the fact that they are not fresh....
I like this place, I'm a local and I get bread here from time to time. But I just have to say this - there was a staff member there today with long pointy acrylic nails serving. The nails looked great, but it's massively unhygienic to have talons like that when working in food service. I would love nails like that, but I work in a different industry that also requires short, clean nails and it's a sacrifice you make for your job for the benefit of the customers.
I ordered the ginger brulee tart and it’s good to try for once. 10/10 Strong gingery taste. The crust was interesting it was neither flaky nor cookie like, but more hard and crumbly. The crust texture did match with the ginger taste and the crème texture was stiff (in a good way). However, I was slightly disappointed that the burnt sugar top wasn’t crispy at all, it was syrupy and I personally could do without it. Was slightly disappointed that
STAFF NEED EDUCATING... 5/5 for Bourke st bakery being the best for grabbing decent priced high quality bakery food. Minus 1 star because - although I come here really regularly - the customer service honestly is poor, there's maybe one male 20 something who's actually nice when I go in. Working in customer service myself I know it's not hard to be polite to everyone who walks through the door - regardless of their appearance.
I am a huge fan of the original bakery. I have tried this one in Newtown a dozen times and I've mostly been disappointed. The goods are rarely as fresh as they should be from a bakery of this standard. Just after arriving home with 2 croissants at 8.30am expecting them to be flaky and fresh but they are hard and not at all fresh. Into the oven with them to try abd bring them back to life!
Amazing food - particularly enjoy the lamb, harissa & almond sausage roll. Fantastic coffee. The staff are very friendly and kind. Thank you!

Legendary breads and pastries! Bourke Street Bakery is an essential stop for us every time we are in Sydney! This time we visited the Newtown outlet and it was every bit as good as the original Surry Hills store. We love the pork and fennel sausage rolls and the lamb, harissa and almond sausage rolls (with house made tomato sauce).
The baked goods which I understand are delivered from another location are generally very good, however the quality of the coffee & the staff are indifferent, typically more interested in convos with each other then customers. Newtown BSB often strikes as the BSB location that this otherwise excellent bakery group forgot.
Surely the point of sticking your shop next to the station and the bus stop is so that people can grab things on the go. Not wait 10 minutes for a coffee that never arrives and in endless lines. Foodworks has cheaper and more flavourful bread next door and Cafe Newtown and Corellis actually do your coffee order quickly.
Came here with my partner the other day. The iced coffee was very nice and so was a tart that we shared. Neither of us liked either the sandwiches we brought but maybe we just got unlucky. Mine was really oily for some reason. With that said it the other pastries looked very tasty and the nut/fig loaf was very nice
A former lover of their Sourdough and croissants... as the Bourke St Empire and number of stores increased the quality of the bread has decreased. A pity. We still eat and buy here but no longer think it is the amazing bakery it was. Staff are always great and the sausage rolls still wonderful.
I have been going here since it opened in Newtown having previously fallen in love with their Ginger Brulee tarts. I was introduced to them by a coworker and if you haven't tried one, you need to now! Got to say the staff are always lovely and their products have never disappointed.
Nowadays Burke st bakery has many branches and still producing one of best sourdough in Sydney. The daily special bread certainly is a catch, and had tried potato rosemary, fig cranberry. The Hurricane tart was not enjoyed simply BC I'm not too fund of the sweetness.
Great spot and a classic for a reason, yummy pastries and cakes and coffee is delicious. Great for a grab and go bite and coffee and staff are always lovely

Service is excellent, Staff are always friendly and helpful. The food is always top notch and the coffee is made quickly and tastes great. Never had a bad experience for myself or any of the other tradesman on my site who buy lunch and coffee from here every day.
I have always loved Bourke Street Bakery but this photo is indicative of my last few experiences. The sourdough still has the same incredible taste but every loaf lately has these big holes in at least two slices. Success is great but don't forget your roots
We had the beef brisket and chicken meat pies and loved them! The pie crusts were perfect! Hard, crispy, and flaky. The fillings were hearty and satisfying. Also the staff were nice and polite and the cafe has a nice open atmosphere. I recommend this place!
Love the lamb and harissa sausage rolls. The only sausage roll in Sydney that doesn't need tomato sauce! The creme brulee tarts are excellent as well. If i was on a deserted island I could happily only eat these lamb sausage rolls for the rest of my life.
Absolute yum — try the beef, bacon and cheesy mash pie! I’ve always gone for the lamb & harissa sausage rolls but I’ve recently discovered the underrated, less spoken about pie . Also, the Ginger brûlée is great, but average croissants …
Can't get enough of the lamb sausage rolls, beef pies, croissants and great coffee. We've been going to bourke st bakery for years and its consistently great, which is hard to achieve these days. Looking forward to it this weekend already!
Nice place but the waitress said they don't have a croissant hence I should go to another cafe to get it. It not a nice way to market. However, I check the reviews before coming there. Well, I order the wagyu beef and it was okay sandwich.
Got the flourless chocolate cake today and OMG so delicious. There were also 2 staff members working (didn't get their names, one had a fab pink eyeshadow on) and they were soooo lovely! Great customer service, so warm and friendly x
The largest, most delicious, value for money Palmiers I have found so far in Newtown/Enmore area. Staff are friendly and coffee is great. Allow some extra time to wait for top quality as this attracts a large line in peak times.
Easily my favourite cafe in the inner-west. Coffee is always on point. Pastries & pies are delicious. The staff are like a family and always so pleasant and welcoming. Thanks guys! I’ll be back.. of course
Just not my cup of tea a nice classic sausage roll would be good.

It is close to Newtown Station and you can grab a loft of sourdough bread on your way to work. The popular items do sell out quickly. Unfortunately they don’t slice the bread loaf for you.... …
Got a soy and linseed sourdough from here and it is absolutely delicious Looked quaint inside. Service was friendly. Other items in store looked amazing too so I'll definitely be back thanks! …
Pay $5 dollar for a pain au choc… that chocolate is so little in my opinion.. like really little. Quite rip off in my opinion.. otherwise I tried sausage roll before $7.50.. is quite ok
Beautifully fresh sourdough loaves - all vegan. Whether it’s wholemeal, seedy or linseed & soy, they’re simply delicious. We’ve found the staff polite & helpful too. Thanks very much.
More of a 3.5 star. Just tried the Croissant and almond croissant. Almond one had a bit of weight to it and not what I’m use too but it’s not bad. Prices are what I expected to pay
We had Roasted Beef and Peri Peri Chicken sandwiches. The flavors were delicious, and the bread was a delight. The staff were friendly. The pricing was very reasonable.
Ginger tart soggy sugary top, not crispy. The sausage rolls were undercooked, no flaky pastry and only lukewarm and not hot. The worst is the coffee. Not going back.

This place always make incredible pies and croissants! The ginger Brulee tart was definitely an acquired taste but the shell it self was perfect.
Nice little bakery. Tasty toasted sandwiches. Sourdough bread is excellent. Rather expensive but worth the money from time to time.
Consistently good food and coffee and the staff are always friendly. Like that service is quick despite often having a long queue.
Genuinely unique items. Items you know but with twists you won't expect but are pleasantly surprised by. Good coffee too.
A bit inconsistent, some of the baristas are better than others. Always sold out of the croissant toasties.
Love their palmier and vanilla raspberry tart although they aren’t the one to get your hot chocolates from
Exceptional baked goods and breads. Lovely staff with a wide range of sweet and savoury items.
Delicious. Absolutely love the lamb roll. Tastes so fresh and always reasonably priced.
Great friendly crew and coffee I love, my regular when I am in the area
Amazing coffee and staff to match. Great spot to stop in King St.
Best bakery around plus the pork rolls are amazing …
Staff are always lovely. Great coffee and sossy rolls <33
Great food. I had a ham cheese tostie, yummy …
