Stopped in for breakfast Sunday, our first time at Brick. Coffee was underwhelming and tasted low quality. Brick uses prepackaged single serve half and half, so I used probably eight plus during our visit. Disappointed that they use single use items like that instead of providing a small carafe poured from a larger container. Blueberry muffin was amazing, highly recommend (make sure you add tons of butter, it's ridiculously good). Biscuits and gravy were average; an order of two biscuits is really two halves, and I may have missed it but did not see that distinction on the menu. Biscuits were just okay, and probably because they aren't made in house. The sausage gravy was outstanding, lots of sage flavor, but was overly salty. Kids french toast was more like croutons and difficult for even adults to eat, either well overdone or just old. Huevos Rancheros were okay but ironically could have used more salt, and the Spanish frittata had a fantastic salsa with it (thinking house made but didn't confirm) and the frittata was cooked nicely but lacked flavor as well as salt. Entrees were good, but not compelling enough to consider Brick to be a destination instead of a fallback in case preferred restaurants are too busy. Service was average to below average, sometimes spotty. The esthetics are nice and the food looks good, but overall I considered the experience to be average considering the high and low points. I can't say we wouldn't go back, but it wouldn't be the first place we think about.

Last Sunday my husband and I were passing through Eustis and saw this restaurant which had a lot of people having lunch there and it looked like a nice place, but it was a bit frustrating. We ordered two sandwiches, at first the waiter who served us was requested. Our sandwiches took a long time to arrive, so far so good. The waiter came to the table only once and brought a refill of my husband's drink. He didn't come back and didn't even ask if we needed anything else. Toward the end I found a huge hair in the middle of my sandwich. Finally when he showed up I told him I'm upset about two things, you didn't come back to see if we needed more booze and my sandwich has a hair. He didn't care and was still rude arguing that I still had drink in the glass which was just ice. He charged for the sandwich with hair, he didn't apologize for anything. We returned the next day to the city, which has a beautiful lake next to this restaurant, but the experience did not make us return to the restaurant. I suggest proper training for this young waiter. UNFORTUNATELY He didn't deserve the tip.

We were a party of 6 and all ordered different meals. The food was fantastic and The Brick has such charming atmosphere. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but Amber, our server was very lacking. I had hot water with lemon and my husband had wine and every time she passed by us she wouldn't look our way as my husband tried to get her attention to refill my hot water and a second glass of wine. He also ordered shrimp and grits and a shrimp ceasar salad to be brought out together and we were all about half way finished with our meals before she brought the ceasar salad, saying they were waiting on the shrimp! Whatever that means. I highly recommend The Brick, it's fabulous, please ask for anyone other than Amber. I would like to say maybe she was overwhelmed cause it was crowded but the seating was less than half full when we arrived and a little over half when we left.

I’ve been to Riverside countless times but I’ve never gotten a chance to eat here. I’m finally glad I was able to last weekend. We went on a Sunday night and it was the best time to go. The Sunday rush was over so we were seated immediately and our server gave us full attention since there were only a few tables left inside. The menu has so much variety it took a minute for me to decide what to have for dinner. I decided to get calamari to start. The calamari is very good! The breading is just right and the inside wasn’t over cooked as some places tend to do. Our table decided to order the Rice Bowl with salmon and a French dip sub chicken and everything came out at a decent time and tasted delicious! Our server was very helpful in helping us make our decisions and made the experience very pleasant. Guess I’ll be back for happy hour!

The ambience is great so there's at least one star. The onion soup was the other star of the show . Our server was good although not present for quite some time considering they had less than ten tables sat. The part I can't accept is the quality of the food. I couldn't cook a meal more bland if I tried. The prime rib sandwich tasted like they put the whole meal In a pot of boiling water and served it. The dip was tasteless as well. I could've added some salt but that's not really my style. If I am laying five star prices I'd like a five star experience. First and last time for us unfortunately. To add to the smell in the entire restaurant was so pungent from the candles they burn we almost left immediately. I should have followed my gut instinct on this one and went to a different restaurant but lesson learned. Edit:

I ordered the Wagyu burger with cheese. A different server brought our food out, but I didn't notice my burger had no cheese before they walked away. Our server came by several minutes later so I told her my burger was missing the cheese. She said she would be right back, but did not take my plate with her. She came back a few minutes later & handed me a small plate with 2 slices of cold cheese. By this time, my burger & fries were cold too so the cold cheese further added to my dissatisfaction. There were 5 of us & our total was over $200. The spinach dip was delicious, but I can't say the same for my dinner.

Cool restaurant, great vibe for a nice dinner! Parking can be a little challenging, but with some patience, you can do it! Clean and spacious inside. Friendly front host. Tonight on a Thursday around 8 pm, for a party of four, there was no wait time. The restaurant was busy, but not extremely crowded. Our waiter, James, was ok. He was quick, friendly, and attentive. All of our orders came out accurately, except for one of them. We don’t like sending plates back to the kitchen, so we just dealt with it since it was something minor. The waiter did noticed the mistake, but we were already done with our plates. He apologized, we didn’t make a big deal about it! The food was very good, fresh ingredients, awesome flavor, great seasoning.

Our first time dining at Brick. Yhe service was excellent from host to server. The atmosphere was good. Quiet enough for conversation but okay to laugh out loud. Family friendly seating with full sized booths. The main meal were good. Mahi, pork chop and lamb was cooked properly. We all felt the dishes lacked a full flavor and seasoning. Very low score on the calamari. Fried far to hard and was greasy. The food was a bit over priced for portions. That being said, we would return if one of party wanted to try it.

The food was decent, tiny dish. Sea scallops and rice. Paid extra for the potato . Limited sides espcially healthy. But for a 60.00 meal I had the wee smallest serving of scallops there were 5 and they weren't delicious just average. The seperate cream dip sauce for them is wonderful though. There was a tiny helping of rice, and a very bland cold bake potato with cups with bacon, sour cream to add. The sea salt on the potato was a nice add. 1 piece of carrot cake but just way too many nuts and sugary icing to enjoy it. And on a take out order no service i explained i didn't have my glasses so the manager offered to add a 20% tip for me. $62.00 and I didn't see dairy free or gluten free choices, to sum it up though it wasnt terrible, next time I'll go to the Blue, or Biscottis.

The wait was minimal to be seated. They are still seating every other space. The waitress was kind but didn't offer any suggestions as this was our first visit, felt a bit rushed to pick a dish. We ordered the Mediterranean salad with chicken and the rice bowl with steak. The salad was large enough to share or split for 2 portions. Both were delicious and offered a variety of tastes. Sweet tea is extra sweet. The booth we sat at had a huge hole in one seat that dipped towards the back making it uncomfortably positioned away from the table. My husband kindly switched seats with me and didn't notice the dip but he's sweet like that. Atmosphere is nice and the noise is tolerable. Parking was easy at 7pm on a Thursday evening. We were happy to pick this as a new venue for our date night. We'll be back to enjoy this place again!

I have been to this restaurant many times and the first time I came I really enjoyed it! It does seem that the quality of the service has decreased and they gotten rid of their drink specials which is unfortunate. I typically get the frittata which I did this past weekend (and was able to order meatless). The food took forever to get to us and when it did, everyone’s food was cold. I can sympathize with the restaurant being understaffed but that didn’t seem to be the issue with multiple tables clearing out at a time. We voiced our dissatisfaction which didn’t seem to mean much. They did try to resolve the issues but not in the most hospitable way. I would say it is a good place to eat, just hope you get a attentive waitress/waiter!

We have always received fantastic service! The food is delicious. We bounce around their menu (all exceptional), but have gotten their rice bowls lately. They are colorful, delicious, and big enough for leftovers. We took our dog for the first time. Although we brought a bowl, staff made sure it was filled with cool water, and gave her a fancy treat! It's those little things that count and they load up the points!

Food was very bland. Calamari was chewy and not crisp, tuna crackers were too small for the price and the crackers too hard, and the french dip had no flavor. Didn't even eat the sweet potato fries because they were soft and flavorless. Tuna crackers were not worth 19 bucks. Wish I could get pics of food on menu cuz I would not have ordered that if it was the case. French dip was not worth 24 bucks. The ones at Arby's had more flavor then theirs. For 24 bucks it is just meat with cheese on a roll... Nothing special... Nothing worth it being the most expensive sandwich on the menu. Don't think I'll go back unless the make changes to the food. Staff was great though.

Parking is a little scarce in the area, but this restaurant has several spots around the side of the building which make it slightly easier than some of the surrounding businesses.

It's been a while since I've sat at this bar by myself. This was a nothing Wednesday so a quiet visit, which is nice sometimes. All of Avondale was a bit quiet which seemed appropriate for the middle of a work day open air weather. I enjoyed a couple of nice Bulliet Ryes and a very tasty baked brie as a little celebration of a new marketing account I acquired this morning. The brie maple sauce was perfectly not too sweet and I enjoyed having soft bread pieces instead of the common crustini. They soaked up the sauce without getting soggy and made a bite with brie, grapes or strawberry garnish (which was sliced super fine to make it practicle to be on multiple bites), a really nice rendition of this favorite.

What happened? We have been going to The Brick for many years and we have noticed it has gone down hill over the years now. This was the place we would take out of town guest. I ordered the Mediterranean salad and it was always big and full of lots of stuff it was a meal itself now it’s not even the size of a side salad. The shrimp and grits are pretty good, but the chef went crazy on the pepper. My husband ordered the salmon and kale salad the salmon was super small! I could see if there was smaller sizes for less money, but it’s not cheap at all. It’s just sad bc it’s such a neat building and wonderful area of town.

Gosh, it kills me to only give 4 out of 5 stars because the food was DELICIOUS! There just wasn't enough of it. My hubby got the wagyu beef hamburger which was a normal size, but he left hungry without as many fries and sides to bulk up on. I had a rice bowl with mango, edamame, steak, black beans... so many goodies! It was delicious! But, like hubby, I could have eaten more. I'd guess that about twice as much is what I'm used to getting elsewhere, when I almost always take home leftovers. My recommendation - plan to splurge on an appetizer or dessert, and then you'll be full and completely satisfied with your experience! Definitely tasty!

This place has a great mix of people and the food is good. I met a friend here for lunch last week and I was very happy with the service I received as well as the quality of the food. I ordered the beef carpaccio and the vidalia onion soup and the soup was stellar. I would go back just for the soup alone.

I love this restaurant. Today was such a great experience. Becky had the Mahi sandwich, we had the mozzarella and tomato, and I had the Porterhouse Pork Chop, with an I-10 IPA. The food was amazing, compliments to the kitchen, of course. However, the best part of the meal was Kelley, our server. She was the most attentive server we've had in a very long time. Great, talented, and people-friendly employees are hard to find. Definitely keep her, selfishly for us! We'll definitely be back.

Located in historic Avondale, Brick is a popular neighborhood restaurant with a lovely sidewalk patio. Our party consisted of three humans and two pups and we asked to sit outside for lunch. The manager was very accommodating and even brought an additional table outside for us since all were occupied. But then a perfect round top opened up on the end, which we grabbed. Our food took a long time to come out, and the table service was just okay. I enjoyed my salmon salad but both my companions, who had been there before, said their dishes were not as good as last visit. For instance, the crab cakes had less lump crab this time. Overall, though, it was an nice experience.

Unfortunately have to really downgrade this place for a recent visit. My wife has a medical condition that requires gluten free food. So when she ordered a vodka martini, they had to give her Tito’s vodka, one of the brands that is GF. This was happy hour and yes we know they typically up charge for a specialty vodka… but when we got the bill, her martini alone was $19 !! The up charge for Tito’s, which is basically everywhere these days was $9! A vodka martini is basically just vodka with one other ingredient and an olive or two. This price is absolutely absurd, we will not return to Brick.

I honestly don’t understand how this restaurant has such good reviews. It’s extremely overpriced for the quality of food you receive, as well as the taste and sub par service. I had to flag down our server 2 times to acknowledge me. We were one of 4 tables occupied in the entire restaurant! The burger tasted like Burger King and even had what they called cheddar, but in all reality looked -and tasted like kraft singles. If you are going to charge $16 for a burger, at least patty it yourself, give it some seasoning, and don’t make it taste like a fake char-grill. Terrible experience overall and won’t return.

Stopped here for a late lunch. I wanted to eat light and saw several Ahi Tuna dishes. I am not a big eater so I ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer with a cup of Vidalia onion soup. It was perfect! Husband had the Ahi Tuna rice bowl. His looked equally as delicious. Given the time of day, the restaurant wasn't overly busy and our terrific waitress, Amber, made some time to talk with us. The whole experience was so much better than expected, especially the food. I left full but not stuffed!

Hit up Brick in Avondale for lunch with some friends, and man, we were all pretty stoked about our choices. Those shrimp and grits? Spot on. Creamy grits paired with shrimp that were just full of flavor. And the bread pudding for dessert? Just the right touch of sweetness. The place had this laid-back atmosphere which was perfect for a midday catch-up. If you’re in Avondale around lunchtime, this place is a solid bet.

Great food and great atmosphere. Casual and laid back with a cafe sidewalk style. Some old favorites with a modern twist. To start off my afternoon, I decided to try the Mango Mojito and it didn't disappoint. The coolness of mint coupled with the sweetness of fresh mango gave way to a refreshing drink and memories of the Caribbean. For my meal, I decided on Mahi Mahi Fish tacos with Cole slaw. The Mahi Mahi was grilled to perfection and placed in flour tortillas stuffed with chopped cabbage and drizzled in Chipotle tartar and ginger soy sauce. Overall, great meal served by an awesome staff...I'll be back for more!!!

We were seated almost immediately inside while the outside seating were filled. I am not used to going to restaurants and we had a toddler who was hungry so I thought the wait time was long. The food was good and there was a variety on the menu. Had we known it was going to take that long we could have been more proactive in getting some food on the table that the toddler could eat. Overall it was a pleasant evening.

The location and atmosphere of the location, is great. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Based on the fact that it's the most popular item I figured how can I go wrong. Here's how. By assuming there's no way to mess up such a simple item. It was a very bland dish. Needless to say I didn't finish it. My son order the French dip Sandwich which he enjoyed. The overall service was very Slow for it to be a slow night. I'll assume they were short staffed. I can't possibly ideal the thought of returning. Fortunately I was in town on business from Atlanta.

I’ve been to The Brick four times. The first two times I liked it, but the food wasn’t something I’d remember days after. That was until I tried the Goat Cheese and Beet Salad. I had that three weeks ago and can say with full conviction that I’ve thought about it every day since. I had it again tonight and it was absolutely incredible. I have dreams about this salad. My boyfriend and I also shared their soup of the day, Shrimp Bisque, and loved it. I’ll be thinking about this salad until I have the pleasure of eating it again.

First off let me say that the server we had was super nice which made a huge difference in this review. The menu was a little incohesive for me... kinda sorta. Didn’t know what concept this restaurant fell under. I ordered the Mediterranean Salad minus the penne pasta which was good with healthy ingredients. I also ordered the blueberry basil margarita which I have to say was super delish. The other thing I appreciated is that they do not upcharge for the shrimp and that's a plus for me! No matter what you order prepare for a pricy tab! Great outdoor dining tho.

First time guests: The drinks (Memorial Park Mule and Blackberry Lemonade) were FANTABULOUS. The crab cakes were awesome and contained NO FILLER. Mmmmm. The Hawaiian Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Our only gripe would be the sides. The Kale Salad was quite dry. I felt like a rabbit eating it. The sweet potatoes fries were good, although it would've been great if mashed potatoes or baked sweet potatoes was offered. Dessert was Carrot Cake with Ice Cream. It was heated for us bc I wasn't in the mood for cold cake. It was DELICIOUS!

Great environment, no long wait on a Friday night after 8 PM. Staff was very attentive. The bar was busy and the game was on the tv. The presentation of the food was okay. Ordered a steak and you were able to get one side. I chose the baked potatoes. The steak was cook perfectly (red not bloody )The drinks were beautiful and very creative, the carrot cake was bland …. clean bathrooms; clean restaurant. Overall good experience ver laidback restaurant for Families, coworkers and couples just missing the wow factor.

They accommodated our party of 9 at a comfortable large table for brunch. A delightful waitress attended to all our needs. Comprehensive menu had something for everyone's diverse tastes. My daughter and I went for lunch recently and we really enjoyed it. I had the rib eye steak tacos that were delish but the best thing was the cole slaw! It's a really nice atmosphere. Had rack of lamb and it didn't have the gamey taste, that was good. The asparagus needed more seasoning. Been going to The Brick for at least 20 years. For a restaurant to consistently get a 5Star review from me, and I go out often, says it all. The Brick is one of Jacksonville's Best. I highly recommend!!!

The Steak Salad was one of the best salads I've ever had! The Steak was cooked just as I asked. Perfect amount of dressing. Just an overall great tasting meal! The waitress was very friendly - she told me the salad me and my girlfriend chose were her favorites. Parking can be hard to find but do a couple of laps and something will open; don't give up hope!

I have been coming here for 15 years. They are consistently above everyone else. Not only in the quality of the food, but presentation, taste, and portion size. The Brick never disappoints. The meditrainian salad with grilled calamari sounds like a salad..but it is so much more. The appetizers are especially good. There is something for everyone on the menu.

Go! The place is huge and extremely clean. The food is delicious, and the servers are salt of the earth friendly. The prices are reasonable and do leave a good tip to the servers because they deserve every penny of it. The cake slices are HUGE! What are you waiting for? Go!

Good food. Service was good . This is the first restaurant I have seen since the pandemic that they don't require face coverings on the servers some had it but most didn't. I hate wearing them myself but they serve a purpose right now. With all the people the servers are exposed to I would think they would have to wear one at least a little while longer. Other than that the service was good.

These Shrimp and Grits were MIND BLOWING! I've never had grits so seasoned and delicious in my life and I'm from ATL. Home if the fish n grits! I mean the shrimp were plump! The cheese was all thru them grits! My God! Whoever back there cooking put their soul in that thang! The Wonton bowl is Genius!!!! You better stop by and getchusum!!!

  • Joe A

The best Calamari in town! The Chef cooked it just right. Not at all chewy, but soft. The Prime Rib was amazing and the chef's cut was easy to share with my neice who loves steak. She enjoyed how soft the bites were and the marbling was perfect with just a bit of fat. Will have to come back for some more Prime. Thanks to the staff who were all very friendly. We enjoyed our brunch!

The Brick restaurant came highly recommended. Unfortunately, the food and the service did not live up to the hype. Perhaps the chef took the day off, and maybe all of the servers were brand new. In any case, my husband and I spent $70.00 on mediocre food and lackluster service. We will not be back.

My first time dining here was a good experience. The atmosphere was relaxed with a great waitress. The food was served hot and tasted good. I thought the prices were a little on the high side for what you get but my appetite was satisfied, and I didn't over-eat. Would definitely recommend as a dining place where you can enjoy your company and get a good meal.

Got together with a old friend and she took me here. It was a great place to sit, relax and have a meal and some drinks. Aaron, our waiter was right on it and kept tabs on us to make sure we had everything but was not instrusive. Prices were good, seating is spaced apart and available inside and out. There is plenty of street parking.

Not my 1st time here. Other dishes I had were good. Today all 3 of us had steaks and they were just ok. Lacked flavor and I chose the Hawaiian Ribeye to make sure I had some flavor. I do not recommend getting the steaks here from this visit but try other things. The pictures look better than they tasted. Bummer for $25+ steaks.

5 of us were seated promptly. Then, we were ignored for 30 minutes. We had a middle table near kitchen so the staff actually had to make an effort to not make eye contact with any of us as they walked by. Never even got a drink order in before we left. Oh and $2 per item to split a check. Lol. Not that we got that far.

  • Emily Baker

Outstanding food and service. Prices were fair for the quality. Creative menu. Adorable neighborhood. Highly recommend! Goat cheese and beet salad was delicious with a well-balanced dressing, making kale taste good! Warm turkey sandwich very good. Calamari had a light batter and sauce had complementary flavor profile.

We went for Brunch on a Sunday and had a great time. Lucky we got there early because parking went quickly. We had the Mango Mojito and BlackBerry Lemonade, both were good. Our entrees were the cookies and cream waffle and french toast which were good as well. Server was attentive and nice. Overall, we recommend.

We had lunch here last week. It was great. A must-visit if you are in Jacksonville. Now I understand why the reviews for Brick are so positive. I had a warm turkey sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and my wife had a crab cake sandwich. Both of us really enjoyed the food. The service was friendly and prompt.

I went on a Sunday evening and there was no wait, this particular time. I ordered a salmon dish, burger (the fries were not fresh, so I was given another batch), and parmesan stuffed chicken. The salmon was the best dish. In my opinion, the chicken needed more/better seasoning and the burger was simple.
