I loved this charming bookstore and all of the staff I met the afternoon I visited. I was in town for the day, from Kent WA, a 3hr drive ... The door was locked, but when opened I said I did not realize appts were required, but I'm just in town and saw the bookstore and really wanted to stop in. I was invited in, because there was "space available" ... I was duly Covid prescreened, and allowed to shop. I was asked if there was something in particular I was looking for, and I said, "Yes, postcards, as I'm a Postcrosser". Score!! Ding Ding Ding!!! WOOT! YAY!! I was brought to the rack of postcards and was told that many of the postcards are done by a local, in the neighborhood, artist. I bought a small stack of postcards, 3 books, a bookmark, and a puzzle ... They have an incredible selection of premium jigsaw puzzles. Over one hundred dollars later (I was going to go out to lunch, but then decided to just eat the snacks I had packed in my car) because this bookstore indulgence was far more delectable and much less fattening. Thank you Broadway Books! P.S. tho at first glance having to make a reservation seemed annoying, I loved that there was crowd control in place because the shop is small and you really did have sufficient personal space to browse. Thank you again for accommodating my visit last Tuesday. XoXo

I could not recommend this place more. From start to finish, the entire staff (especially Kim - shoutout to Kim!) were incredibly attentive and communicative with me. I ordered two books from here, one of which went out of print with the manufacture and the other the store did not have on hand. I was immediately notified and refunded for the one, and the staff special ordered the other. Both of this was communicated to me within 48 hours of my purchase. Then, I absentmindedly ordered the books for curbside pick up, (even though I live in Minnesota) and upon realizing my mistake, I called to embarrassingly ask if they could ship the book to me instead (it was a Christmas gift). Without missing a beat, they were right on it and got the book sent out immediately. Just incredible! We need bookstores now more than ever, so if you’re looking for a way to support a small business with the most professional, caring, and helpful staff I’ve ever experienced - shop Broadway Books.

Broadway Books is just amazing- their selection and customer service makes this place a true gem. My online purchasing experience was flawless. When one of the items I ordered was unavailable, Elie both called and emailed me so that we could find and ship a replacement item as soon as possible. I later called to ask a question about shipping and the person I spoke with was friendly, kind, and knowledgeable, and willing to go above and beyond to help me. This type of individualized service truly makes Broadway Books special- 10/10 would recommend for any future book/game/fun purchases! I'm so glad that places like Broadway Books exist and I can't wait to visit in Portland as soon as it is safe.

Lovely "Right Sized" book store. Perfect for browsing and finding just what you need or want in just the right amount of time - not too fast, not too slow... Help if you want it, leave you to yourself if you don't. You can pre-order, pre-pay and have the book ready and waiting to pop in and pick up if you want, or you can walk in the front door with only the vaguest notion and walk out with a years supply for the book club. Perfect little bookstore. The people who work there know their stuff and love to share it.

I was looking for a book about Alzheimers. The employee walked me to the that section. She even show me several options and did a little review on each. After I choose the one that suited my needs, I asked her where the Sudoku books were. They were in that section. My husband was happy with the one I decided on. It was a hard/challenging one by Will Shortz, his favorite. Very clean and organized store. I'd recommend this to my friends and family. I prefer to support local businesses. I'll be back.

I had a great time browsing here while I visited Portland recently. I left with a book from the staff picks section that I’d never heard of but had to have called One’s Company and it did not disappoint! To April, who wasn’t there when I chose this book from her recommended section, thank you for the wild reading experience this book provided!! They also had one of the books on my list that Powells did not have so make sure to stop in here if you’re a book-lover in Portland!

I so appreciate Broadway Books and have for years. I love their newsletter! I always find something new from the tables and shelves that invite me. The staff is helpful, and even other customers are friendly. They order books for me (even by phone) and books arrive so quickly and I receive a call, "Your Book is in!" Best neighborhood bookstore. Its in NE Portland across the street from Helen Bernhard Bakery. Buy a book there and then go across the street for the best brownies in town. There really are too few bookstores like this left in the country. They have a wonderful selection of fiction books in particular and I never fail to find amazing new novels I'd never heard of before that they personally select for some of the display tables and shelves. Great greeting cards too!

I am based in London, but wanted to purchase a signed copy of Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I had to get it ordered to a friend in the US who was able to bring it over to the UK on their travels. I struggled to pay for my order online as my credit card is UK-based, but Kim was fantastic in assisting me with the payment and really went above and beyond. I now hold the copy in my hand. Thank you, Kim! Fantastic customer service.

This is such a cute little spot! The staff was so friendly and helpful, too- much much more so than the other places I have been going in Portland. They had a great selection for being in such a small place- I found so many books I had been looking for and more I didn't know I needed! I will definitely be back, and Broadway Books will be my go-to for any book pre-orders I make from here on out.

This is the best place to come if I'm in the mood for something amazing to read. Their selection is excellently curated, and the staff are always happy to help make recommendations. Ask about ordering books you can't find, but go with less of a plan and you'll probably end up with an unexpected favorite! I also usually find a greeting card I can't pass up whenever I go.

I used to be a Powell’s regular, wanting to support local bookstores. As of late, I am now a Broadway books regular. Their service and selection is amazing! I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the bookstore itself but my online experience has been great, books ready to pick up within days! Staff is super friendly! Can’t wait to step inside and feel the magic.

Amazingly awesome customer service! They happily special-ordered a small press book for me and got it days faster than any online sellers would have. The gal I worked with even remembered our conversation on the phone and (free) gift wrapped the book I got. At Broadway Books, you get personalized and thorough service. Worth the trip.

Browse and discover new authors at this terrific small neighborhood bookstore on NE Broadway. The staff always have good recommendations and if for some reason they don’t have what you’re looking for are happy to order things for you (which, to me is much better than an anonymous Amazon package showing up at the front door).

A small bookstore with plenty of calendars, planners, and presents alongside new releases. Alas it has a tiny young adult and fiction section, and no sci-fi or fantasy in sight so steer clear if those are your genres. Also it is incorrectly categorized as a used book store in Google maps, nothing in here is used.

Went in to find a book on grief and inspirational words... Great recommendation from guy working there (didn't get his name unfortunately)...at check out thanked him and we ended up having a great conversation.. Love this store..I will be frequenting often from now on out …

We just moved out of NE Portland, and I'm sad to be so much farther from from Broadway Books. We've loved this place for years, and they really made us feel safe and comfortable with pickups during the pandemic. Before, we could walk. Now we must drive. But we shall!

I visited 8 bookstores while traveling through Portland and this one was my favorite! I appreciated how the books were organized and found the store to be just the right size. The staff was also very friendly (as were all the other bookstores' staff!).

My partner and i love Broadway books - super friendly staff!! During the holidays you can have books wrapped. my uncle lives in a different state and was able to habe a book wrapped and waiting for me - perfect if you're trying to surprise someone!

Great little store! Posting here to help others... You eventually see it on their site but I have books to pick up there and keep forgetting. Curbside pick-up is from 2 to 4 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
