Buckingham Fountain in Chicago is an iconic landmark that truly captivates visitors with its grandeur and beauty. I recently had the pleasure of visiting this magnificent fountain, and it was an experience I will cherish for a long time. As you approach the fountain, its sheer size and intricate design immediately command attention. The majestic centerpiece, surrounded by four beautiful sea-horse sculptures, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and dedication to creating stunning public spaces. The fountain's water display is a sight to behold, especially during its hourly water shows. The cascading water jets, reaching heights of up to 150 feet, are set to the backdrop of the stunning Chicago skyline. The combination of water, light, and music during the evening displays creates a magical atmosphere that leaves visitors in awe. The surrounding Grant Park provides a perfect setting for leisurely strolls and picnics, offering ample green spaces and beautiful gardens. The fountain serves as a focal point within the park, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists to gather and enjoy the vibrant energy of the city. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the careful preservation of Buckingham Fountain's historical significance. The recent restoration efforts have ensured that this architectural masterpiece remains in pristine condition for generations to come. The dedication to maintaining the fountain's beauty and historical value is evident in every aspect of its upkeep. During my visit, I noticed that the fountain attracts a diverse crowd, from families with children running gleefully through the water to couples taking romantic strolls by the fountain's edge. The sight of people from different walks of life coming together to appreciate this iconic landmark adds a sense of community and connectedness. The Buckingham Fountain is not just a beautiful sight but also a symbol of the city's spirit and resilience. It has stood the test of time, enduring decades of changing seasons and weather, yet it continues to be a symbol of Chicago's vibrant culture and enduring charm. If you're planning a trip to Chicago, Buckingham Fountain is an absolute must-visit destination. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy the city's beauty, this iconic landmark will leave a lasting impression on your heart and mind. Don't forget to catch the hourly water shows, as they are truly a spectacle that shouldn't be missed. Buckingham Fountain is undoubtedly one of the city's most treasured gems, and it will undoubtedly make your visit to Chicago a memorable one.

Buckingham Fountain, an iconic landmark nestled in Grant Park, is a mesmerizing testament to Chicago's grandeur and beauty. Standing as one of the largest fountains in the world, it exudes a timeless elegance and captivates visitors with its grandeur. The fountain's exquisite design features intricately carved seahorses, mythical sea creatures, and cascading tiers that create a symphony of water and light. Its central jet shoots water up to 150 feet in the air, while the surrounding basins showcase graceful water patterns that dance in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Buckingham Fountain serves as a focal point for gatherings and celebrations in the city. The fountain's water shows, accompanied by music and vibrant lights, are particularly enchanting during the summer evenings. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Buckingham Fountain holds historical significance for Chicago. Dedicated in 1927, it was a gift to the city from philanthropist Kate Sturges Buckingham as a tribute to her late brother. As the water dances to its choreographed symphony, it's hard not to be entranced by the fountain's grandeur. The stunning architecture and intricate detailing tell a story of Chicago's rich history and its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. Standing in front of Buckingham Fountain is an experience that transcends time. This iconic fountain is such a much visit while in Chicago. The location is prime, right in Grant Park and very close to the Millennium Park and west of the shores of the Lake Michigan. The fountain itself is majestic, one of the largest fountains in the World. It has four sets of Seahorses representing each of the four states of Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana that border Lake Michigan. Just a 360 walk around the fountain can be entertaining as you can catch various angles of the fountain against the different backdrop of the city and the skyline and the Lake, just magnificent! The water shoots up the fountains so high that on a windy day you could have a nice light shower standing even a good 50 feet away or farther from the edge, depending on the direction of the wind. There are Some food carts around the fountain and nearby and there are facilities by it. You can spend a good hour if not longer at this location just admiring the fountain and the surroundings.

Buckingham Fountain one of the largest in the world, is located within the Grant Park in Chicago. When we visited the fountain in early May morning, one of the most beautiful fountains of America was not operational. I was eager to visit the Buckingham Fountain as I had read many reviews about the fountain and it’s spectacular light and music displays, but unfortunately we couldn’t see it as it was not open for the season yet. I learnt that the major fountain display stays for 20 minutes during every hour. The fountain is made of pink Georgia marble and granite and bronze sculptures. The fountain was installed in 1927 but interestingly the original pumps are still operational. Beautiful garden surrounding the fountain in the backdrop of Lake Michigan and skyscrapers of Chicago downtown makes it so grand. We took leisurely stroll in the garden and around the fountain and enjoyed the beautiful experience. Though, it would have been much better if the actual fountain was operating and alive with lights and music on!

What can I say? Besides its beautiful, classic, & an icon for the City of Chicago ⛲️ I've driven past here a hundred times on Lake Shore Drive, & have always marveled at the beauty of the fountain, but none of that prepared me for the upclose experience. The Buckingham Fountain ⛲️ is something you want to experience in your lifetime. I felt as if I was transported to a past time.. the sheer beauty of it in the daytime is only magnified 10x by the view of it at night. With the iconic Chicago skyline as its backdrop, this truly is a sight that NEEDS to be seen in person. It was absolutely breathtaking.✨️ It's located in Grant Park, which also has a beautiful rose garden and other photo worthy attractions. It's a must-see, in person, for both visitors and locals like myself. When you live so close to a big city, you tend to take the magnitude of it for granted. You really do have to stop, smell the roses , & appreciate what an absolute treasure you have 30 minutes away from home ⛲️

Beautiful fountain in the middle of Grant Park Chicago. No entrance fee! Easy walk from Michigan Ave, We walked to the fountain from the Art institute within 10 minutes. You can also hop on a rental bike or there are many bikers that have carriage rides available for you along the waterfront and fountain areas you can hop on and get a ride if needed. It has a beautiful view of the lakefront on one side and the city buildings as a back drop on the other sides. The fountain is one of the largest fountains in the world donated by Kate Buckingham. The fountain has a beautiful night light show that has 820 lights that are meant to convey soft moonlight. It has three pumps pushing over 14,000 gallons of water per minute through 134 jets. It's a definite must do when in Chicago!

Buckingham Fountain is indeed a fascinating landmark in Chicago. Its historical significance makes it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The intricate details in its design are truly remarkable and worth exploring. The fact that the fountain shoots water up to 85 feet in height is truly impressive and adds to its grandeur. Visiting Buckingham Fountain offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the blend of history and modern attractions in Chicago.

A TOP tourist attraction in the city. I highly recommend going at night to see the light & music show plus all the little carts that are lit up with fun colors, driving around the fountain. With the city lights in the background, over all it’s a great place to walk around or just sit and watch. Lots of great sitting options. There also is several snack carts set up as well as food trucks. Bathrooms available too. As my 1st experience, it was wonderful.

  • Yen Ly

I unfortunately didn't get the memo and the fountain was shut down when I visited. It was sad because of the the magnificent reviews I've heard about the it just to see a dried up well. Here's a tip for those visiting: the fountain will be closed from November to April. Don't spend time walking over as you'll be heavily disappointed like me. I'm not sure when I'll be back, but when I do I hope to see the fountain sprouting water again.

Visited in September, 2022. Buckingham Fountain is one of the most magnificent fountains I have ever experienced. It is very huge and beautiful. Visit Grant Park to see this fountain. This is a nice place to meditate or people watch. There is plenty of parking nearby. This is an excellent spot for taking pictures of the Chicago skyline and incorporating it into photos with the fountain.

  • BradJill

Buckingham Fountain is considered to be one of the largest fountains in the world. Designed to resemble a Rococo style wedding cake, Buckingham Fountain reminds one of the Latona Fountain at Versailles. Unfortunately, the fountain remained out of operation due to cool weather during our early may visit so we were unable to see it properly this time around. Better luck next time.

  • PS

Absolutely Majestic Fountain , spent 1-2 hrs there looking at its beauty and how as night approaches, lights all lit up , it looks more stunning…. The Chicago Skyscrapers and beautiful skyline make it the most perfect backdrop….. loved it’s openness and huge gardens surrounding it ….and the beautiful Lake Michigan on the other side makes it’s even more beautiful

  • Easwar RV

The Buckingham fountain in the park was at its best view in summer. The place was busy, music in different countries from 3 wheel carts indicated the cultural variety, chill winds of lake Michigan and the beautiful city scape at night set the backdrop of this wonderful view of the fountain.
Restrooms
Worst. Located at the north entrance of the fountain.

  • Gabriel Alcantara Melo

The place is surrounded by a beautiful green. The city on the background landscape creates a very interesting contrast and the pictures are amazing. The place is very clean and quiet. Unfortunately on my first visit the fountain was not on. But I'll be back there soon. Anyway they still had the fountain' water where you could see the birds having fun.

  • Maryam Nasser

It's a beautiful fountain. Every hour on the hour, they switch on the top water spout. The water goes up super high and creates a mist, which it very refreshing. It's nice to see the skyline on one side, and the water on the other side.
Restrooms
There's restrooms close to the fountain. We didn't use them, so I don't about cleanliness.

  • Nupur Goel

Gateway to Chicago if you come here you must stop here first day long enough to see all the fountain shoot. They shoot even higher every so often. So stay long enough. Make sure you walk around inside to see every aspect of not just the fountain but the background. The skyline the harbor all the above and just enjoy your time

  • Saiprabhu B

Majestic fountain with the majestic Chicago skyline in its backdrop. The best part is it's totally free. This is one of the largest fountains in the world. Can easily spend an hour here taking a leisurely stroll and observing the fountain from all the directions. This should be the starting point of your visit to Chicago.

Buckingham Fountain is a Chicano Landmark in the middle of Grant Park and is one of the largest fountains in the world. The fountain operates from May to mid-October, with regular water shows and evening colored-light shows. It is also a short walk from here to Lake Michigan and is a spot to get some great photos.

  • Keshav Bansal

Nice place with great scenic view of the lake. It is quite windy out there, and also most from the fountain. Better carry a wind cheater or something even if it’s not so cold. Also you can sometime see a nice fancy eco friendly rickshaw taxies which can take your around with flashing lights and music.

  • Oriane Boudinot

Beautiful fountain, and it is huge! Love the colors they chose, and it's a beautiful setting with lake Michigan on one side and the city's buildings aligned on another. There are many areas to walk through, with trees, and bushes all around. Very cool park to visit!

  • Alexander Parson

To say this place is amazing is too little. Magnificent! The fountain is breathtaking, the views of the city around and manumental Chicago skyline complete the impression. You will make here the pictures that will accompany you for the rest of your life.

  • Arantxa Ledesma

The fountain is so beautiful the park around it it’s very nice to chill and hang out, there’s also a nice spot by the lake to sit. Great view of the Chicago skyline. It can get crowded and noisy on the weekends but still a nice place to enjoy! …

  • Vivian Lee

I’m sure this is very pretty in the summertime, but since it’s off season, the fountain is off. The surrounding area is a huge wide open space, and it makes it very nice to see the skyscrapers and sky line. Even better for the lights at night.

  • Wind Napol

Currently surrounding area are under construction. So getting to the fountain is not that easy. We parked at the millennium garage and walked there. Recommend coming in the early evening so you can see the lights. Day time photos are boring.

  • Cédric Nicoli

Checked out Buckingham Fountain on a warm summer evening, and it was nice, not mind-blowing, but nice. The water show with lights and music was cool, but not something I'd go out of my way to see again. It's a good place to take a break if

So beautiful. The fountain lights up at night. It used to coordinate with music, but it did not tonight. The restaurant was closed, so I'm not sure if there's any food for sale there, or if it was just closed when we went. The city lights

A must to go to when in town. Just a short walk for the Cloud Gate aka bean. The "Married with Children" icon was gorgeous and a lot bigger than I expected. Wish we were able to get closer and sit in the ledge, but had it fenced off.

  • Payal Maniar

Beautiful free public place in heart of the city. Sunset view of lake and Chicago skyline lights after dark are just mesmerizing. Fountain puts up a small 20 minutes show every clock of an hr which is definitely fun thing to watch.
