The Bean, or Cloud Gate, is an absolute must-visit when in Chicago! This iconic sculpture located in Millennium Park is a true marvel of art and architecture. As I approached, I was immediately captivated by its gleaming stainless-steel surface reflecting the city skyline and its surroundings, making for the perfect photo opportunity. The seamless curves and smooth surface of the sculpture create a surreal and ever-changing mirror effect, drawing visitors from all over the world. It's incredible to see how people interact with the Bean, posing for pictures, touching its surface, and gazing at their own reflections. The design and concept behind the Bean are ingenious. Created by the renowned artist Anish Kapoor, it serves as a symbol of unity, connecting the diverse communities of Chicago. The reflections symbolize how the city embraces its residents and visitors alike, inviting them to be a part of its vibrant energy. Visiting The Bean during different times of the day offers unique experiences. The morning light paints the city with warm hues, while the evening sun casts mesmerizing shadows on the surface. At night, the city lights dance across the sculpture's form, creating an enchanting spectacle. While the popularity of The Bean attracts a considerable crowd, I found that the atmosphere was jovial and friendly. Visitors were courteous and willing to take turns for that perfect shot. The park staff does an excellent job of maintaining the area, ensuring it remains clean and safe for everyone. Though The Bean might seem like a simple reflective sculpture at first glance, it embodies the spirit of Chicago and represents the city's rich cultural diversity and artistic innovation. Whether you're a tourist or a local, spending time with The Bean is an enriching and unmissable experience that will leave you with fond memories and a newfound appreciation for public art. Overall, The Bean in Millennium Park is a gem in Chicago's cultural landscape. It's an extraordinary blend of creativity, engineering, and community engagement. I highly recommend visiting this iconic attraction

The Bean (Officially "Cloud Gate") is a large outdoor public work of art, situated in the Millennium Park of downtown Chicago. Though it's official name is the "Cloud Gate", it is popularly called "The Bean" due to its bean-like shape. It's exterior is highly polished and smooth, and is like a huge elongated convex metal mirror. It was built by Anish Kapoor, an India-born British sculptor who is famous for large outdoor art structures. It was unveiled in 2004, and very quickly became a very important tourist attraction in Chicago. It is 66 feet long, 42 feet wide and 33 feet tall, and weighs 110 tonnes. The exterior of the Bean is composed of 168 pieces of stainless steel plates which are seamlessly welded together. The Bean's surfaces are actually metallic mirrors, and they reflect the surroundings clearly. It is really an awesome sight to view the reflections of the sky and clouds and the skyscrapers surrounding it. People are allowed to touch it, and at all times a huge number of people gather around it to see and photograph their own images as reflected on its surface. It has become the most well-known iconic art structure of Chicago.

The park itself is a lovely oasis amidst the bustling city, offering a serence escape for locals and tourists alike. Cloud Gate, with its distinctive reflective surface, is a fascinating and iconic structure that draws visitors from around the world. However, it's worth noting that due to its popularity, the park can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons. This may affect the overall experience, as maneuvering through the crowds can be a challenge. Additionally, visitors should be prepared for a security check before being allowed to enter the area surrounding Cloud Gate. Despite the crowds, the beauty and uniqueness of Cloud Gate make it a must-visit attraction in Chicago. Its shimmering reflection of the city skyline and interactive nature make it an engaging and memorable experience for all who visit.

Overall, the cloud gate is unique and renowned. It is also located near some great parks and landmarks (Dailey Park, Navy Pier, etc.). Parking is also made easy by the structure located basically underneath true park complex. There are some eateries located just adjacent to the “bean.” However, expect to pay a premium at these establishments for mediocre products. While cloud gate is an interesting feature with a great view of the cityscape behind it, the pure busyness is a major, compelling reason why it may not be worth it to visit. It is famous, yes, but dealing with the hoards of other tourists is both annoying and will spoil any chance you may have of trying to get a pristine photo of the renowned landmark.

Cloud Gate ( also known as the Bean) is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza at Millennium Park in the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. The sculpture and AT&T Plaza are located on top of Park Grill, between the Chase Promenade and McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink. I went here recently and it was crowded, and hard to take a photo without people randomly coming into the frame. However it’s still a neat place to come and view this iconic piece of art in Chicago. Parking is a bit of an issue, So be prepared to walk a bit to get close to it. There is a ramp to get up closer to the bean, so it’s wheelchair accessible.

We brought our young children to view this iconic sculpture, and it was a bit disheartening to find it temporarily inaccessible. However, once we got past that initial letdown, we were still able to appreciate its greatness from a distance. The Bean's unique and captivating design is truly a sight to behold. Its reflective surface, mirroring the city skyline and the people around it, is nothing short of mesmerizing. It's an art piece that continues to amaze, even when you can't get up close. While our visit may not have been exactly as we had hoped, The Bean's charm and allure still shone through. It's a must-see attraction in Chicago, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting!

Cloud Gate, located in Millennium Park, Chicago, is a mesmerizing work of art that captivates visitors from all walks of life. Designed by Anish Kapoor, this iconic sculpture is affectionately known as "The Bean" due to its shape resembling a polished, reflective bean. Its mirror-like surface creates stunning reflections of the surrounding skyline, inviting visitors to interact and take captivating photographs. The sculpture's seamless integration into the urban landscape and its ability to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity make it a must-visit destination. Cloud Gate is a true masterpiece that beautifully combines art, architecture, and the vibrant spirit of Chicago.

I visited in February on a solo birthday trip, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Cloud Gate. It’s how I expected, but honestly much cooler than I thought. Beautiful to watch the sun glint off the sculpture and the ice skating rink is lovely to people-watch. I went on a Saturday and arrived about 11am via the subway — it wasn’t unbearably busy or overcrowded but obviously expect other tourists to be there most of the time. I didn’t have any security check but did see them doing them later in the day. Plenty of restaurants nearby and the park itself is gorgeous. This truly is a can’t-miss!

“How do you rate a bean?” Is what my girlfriend just asked after seeing it last week and it being in my recent locations. Well, let me tell you. This is a GREAT bean. Like a 10 on 10 bean. In all honesty, I didn’t care to see this bean at first but was told you have to when your in Chicago. We walked to this bean with a coffee one morning and once we got there I completely understood why it’s an attraction. The mirror of it is cool, seeing everyone looking around being happy is awesome, everyone is just like awww cool this bean! Walking under it was fun, this bean was surprisingly one of the many very enjoyable things we did on our trip! Great bean, would go again. The rest of the park is also nice from what we saw.

A must see tourist attraction!! Very cool piece, and fun unique pictures you can take. We went on a Friday afternoon -- still pretty busy but not too bad. There are people who will want to take your picture and then charge you for it - just beware of that. Not everyone will but be cautious. We didn't have any issues this time I went. Parking is always an issue and we went when they were getting ready for the Taylor Swift concert and had all entries to the Millennium Park blocked instead of the entrance on Michigan. We had to pay $5 for parking and walked for 5-10 minutes.

The sculpture and AT&T Plaza are located on top of Park Grill, between the Chase Promenade and McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its shape, a name Kapoor initially disliked, but later grew fond of. Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet (10 by 20 by 13 m), and weighs 110 short tons (100 t; 98 long tons).

Cloud Gate offered an incredibly fun and exciting feature within the park! Even though the area surrounding it was pretty busy, I didn't mind squeezing my way through to snag a few awesome photos. The park where Cloud Gate is located is absolutely beautiful, and I can totally see myself coming back. But you know what? Next time I visit, it won't be just to see Cloud Gate again. There's a whole bunch of other attractions in the park that I'm excited to explore and make the most of my tourist adventure!

The Cloud Gate in Chicago is a must-visit attraction for anyone in the city. I highly recommend going early in the morning to avoid the crowds, as it can get quite busy during peak hours like 6 pm. Despite the crowds, the Cloud Gate and its surrounding area inside Millennium Park are simply stunning. If you have time, be sure to explore the many other nearby parks and take a stroll along the picturesque Michigan Lake, which is just a 10-minute walk away. Public transportation is easily accessible, so it's best to avoid cars and take the metro to make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

The must-see Chicago landmark, Cloud Gate, is located inside Millenium Park and is just as amazing and fascinating in person. Also known as "Bean" of Chicago. It's often packed, so if you want to obtain views and images that are nearly unobstructed, be there before 8am. Take your time to capture numerous pictures that are worthy of being on a post card because every aspect is distinctive and different in its own way. Parking is available at North Gate, and it's affordable and secure compared to other parking lots. You can park and see everything near there.

It’s always fun to finally visit iconic sites you’ve seen and heard about for so long. Cloud Gate was no exception. We went in February knowing full well weather could be an issue but that crowds would be down and we lucked out on the weather having been a brisk 40 degrees but bright and sunny. The Bean was very interesting and my childish wonder came out das we looked at the structure from all different angles trying to “figure it out.” I guess it snowed recently which cause some streaks to show which wasn’t ideal but it was still a sight to behold.

  • Michael Allamby

I passed by a few times throughout the year. Winters and Summers are vibrant there. I couldn't tell you what the purpose of this mirrored bean is. And for some reason I never researched it. But its cool to go and look and make your own interpretation of it. Maybe, ask others what their thoughts on it is. There's other thought provoking public art installations to see nearby along water front. Visit during the night and day.

Great place to take photos, iconic and should be on your list if you are planing on visiting. The bean gets crowded after awhile but you can still get great photos, especially with the city in the background. My only concern was that they are many scam people around, some of them will try to force a bracelet or some sort of item, and then tell you to pay, so make sure you return their things and ignore them.

This is one of the most iconic places to visit while in Chicago! It is amazing how smooth and reflective it is being so enormous! We went on a Monday afternoon in March, but it was still very busy. We were still able to get a few great pictures! Parking is kinda complicated at first, but not too bad. It is all underground, and there are very few signs to tell you where to go (this seems like a very common thread for Chicago). The only signs once you park just say, “Pedestrian Exit”. It is a bit of a walk, so wear good shoes.

  • Tommey Liang

I found out "The Bean" is actually called "Cloud Gate" officially. Even some of the people who live in Chicago don't really know it as Cloud Gate and simply call it The Bean. It's a really nice structure - also a huge lightning conductor. When I got there it was already raining, and then came the storm so park staff had to tell everyone to evacuate the area. Loved looking at the reflections and seeing how durable The Bean is. Pretty photogenic spot and one of the most popular attractions in Chicago.

  • Bridget “Bee” Keller

Four stars for public artwork & just the beauty of it all. It is a little crowded mid-day mid-week, but that wasn’t a surprise to myself or the friend with me. It was definitely nice to check off of our Chicago trip bucket list! Minus one star for the artist of the Bean himself — we all know he’s a jerk. Some people have talent but not the humble attitude or grace of others!

I visited last week. It is under construction and you are unable to get close to it. A local mentioned that they were doing renovations to make it more handicap accessible. You can snap photos through the gate and make the best of it. Since the leaves are changing and still falling, I saw plenty of people taking great photos between the trees with the Bean as the background

An iconic location for Chicago visit. It’s always packed with tourist. You just have to wait your turn to get your spot. Forewarning, just pick the day without rain and pictures will turn out great. I think selfie stick is a must for this location. The park is clean and well maintained by law enforcement. Parking is challenging for sure. Recommended public transportation.

We made a special trip to the bean to find that it was gated off and under construction. I'm sure it would have been a much cooler experience otherwise. So if you are looking for photos opportunities right now, the best you will get is sitting on the ground in front of a poster banner until "well into 2024," according to an article that we looked up afterward.

At 9/14/23 - 9/16/23 , the cloud gate is under construction. The whole park is actually, so limited on viewing the sculptures & other things for the public to see. It's a nice viewing area but I suggest not touching it, licking it or kissing it once it is open. Lots of bacteria, viruses. Other than that, not much really besides your "Instagram story" of it.

Really cool place to visit and see. There are typically a lot of people taking pictures, so it’s hard to get a shot of just one person. All said, it’s an iconic monument and a must see when in the windy city. While it’s a very cool visual, there’s no need to spend too much time there - once you see it, it’s not worth spending more than 15 minutes there.

This is a great park to take lots of pictures in lots of locations! The Bean was okay. Lots of people there, so it wasn't everything the cool pictures make it out to be, but if you go there for the full park, you will definitely enjoy it. HOWEVER...make sure to bring your own toilet paper. They were out everywhere in the park. That is typical advice I would give for any park outing, so don't be out off by this. It's just good tourist advice for wherever you go.

Wasn't thrilled about my experience at Cloud Gate, under construction, and impossible to truly see. It is understandable that any piece of art needs maintenance, but to essentially obscure the view entirely of one of Chicago's most recognizable landmarks is ridiculous. Poorly planned by whoever overseen that. Hope to visit in the future and see it for what it's worth.

Visiting the 'Bean' was on my Chicago bucket list. Currently it is closed behind construction fencing until early 2024 but it was still slightly visible. I spent a few minutes walking around Millennial Park which is very pretty. There were a lot of people out & about even on a rainy Sunday morning. It was $26 (up to 2 hours) to park in a nearby garage.

As of Thanksgiving 2023, it is still closed to the public due to maintenance. I was told that the people from Chicago weren't thrilled with "the bean" when it was first built, but it has become an icon. I love how you can see the reflection of the city on it. You can still get a good photo if you find a good spot. It is free to the public.

Definitely a sight to see if you’re visiting Chicago. It’s a unique structure and a fun shape. The only thing is that the entrance is a little confusing to find and after 10-15 minutes of initial excitement and taking photos, you’re basically done. I would say don’t go out of your way to see it however, if you happen to be in the area, then it’s a cool photo opportunity.

It was a beautiful day and a great time to see this wonderful piece of art! I can admit it looked cleaner on TV, but it was a fun illusion and a great way to make photography friends. My wife and I enjoyed our dinner on the steps, while doing some prime people watching. This is just one part of a very large park system Chicago has. Let this be your appetizer to a scrumptious world public beauty.

Been here in day time and night. You get two separate experience when doing this in morning and another experience during the night. The weather is another thing that decides which time is best. The place is huge and you would love it. Right in the middle of busy downtown but you have a place to enjoy some quiet time with nature and enjoy some green cover, and enjoy the Chicago time line.

  • Joshua Roberson

Nice place. Was clean and well kept when I was there, and I would go back. There were people from all walks of life mingling together, what a great experience. If you get the chance go, you will not be disappointed. Nice park surrounded by old buildings. Spend the day walking around, enjoy the paths, and also check out the fountains. Go with a group and/or family to make memories here.

I can't say why I was so entranced and transfixed by the 'Bean', but I was. Maybe it was the simplistic elegance, and I don't use the term simplistic in a negative way. It is just unreal and by the size of the crowd, I knew I wasn't the only one who thought that. I overheard one lady say that she underestimated how amazing it was. Bottom line, go see it!

Visitied this place after 16++ hour drive yesterday during Thanksgiving. It is still UNDER RENOVATION with fences around it. Find a gap between two fences, zoom in, and you will get a better look of this bean-like sculpture. I enjoy the place and city!

Great area to visit, they do security check upon entering. I was told not to visit or walk around downtown area after sunset or night time, because they might be some people try to mug you(wasn’t sure whether it's true) Beside that, it's a must to visit

It's a great place to visit. Please know it will be crowded most of the day. Don't forget to go at night because to me it has a better feel at night. Just take your time and the people will move and then get your picture.

Landmark location in Chicago. Free to visit. Right now the city is doing work around it so there is an 8 foot fence denying access. You cannot get too close, but neither can anyone else. No pesky people in your pictures!

On a Sunny day it will be crowded. Forget about a clear shot with the bean as it will inevitably be crowded as in these pictures. The park is nice though. Constantly with different attractions and a good place to relax.

Totally awesome! Sculpture by British Indian artist Anish Kapoor. Make sure you go all around and under it to see the reflection from all different angle. It gives you a distorted perspective of the city and yourself. This is has become the iconic symbol of Chicago, and there's a reason for it. So don't miss it. Or you'll regret it.

  • Ivan Loh

An icon of Chicago not to be missed! You've seen it in movies and shows, and it looks just as spectacular and intriguing in person. I recommend being there before 8am to get almost unblocked (by people) views and photos. Every angle is different and unique in its own way, so take your time to take lots of postcard worthy pictures.

  • FejiVA

Cloud Gate, an iconic part of Chicago! This sculpture is a unique look to any city comparably around the world. I truly recommend to come at any moment to view this sculpture! A must come for family and friends! Come on out and see "The Bean"!

I had no idea this thing had a name! I've called it the bean forever and everyone always knew what I meant! It was a cool attraction and the area around it is neat too! Fun little adventure in the city!

Finally I saw the Bean which I have seen many times in movies. Surprisingly it is smaller than what I imagined. There are a lot of great spots to take pictures in or near this square. Here is Chicago.

This was well worth seeing. I love how Chicago has outdoor art all over and this one is memorizing. If you are in town and have the time to see some local outdoor art this one is worth the visit.

Thousands of people come to Millennium Park in downtown Chicago just to see this huge giant bean, I guess you can say it's one of the many remarkable landmarks in the city, you can see both your reflection and the skyline of the city, people literally lineup just to enter the park all for just one giant bean

  • Joseph Powell

I don’t want to give this less than five stars because it doesn’t deserve it but it was closed and I want able to see it. Outside of through the fence that is. But I will take what I can and be happy I was able to get a taste of what the artist intended. I wonder how he feels about it being called the bean?

  • Sean Hunter

It’s a sight to see. Things to know before you go there. It’s gated right now and there is a lot of construction going on. That makes getting a picture difficult since it’s hard to get close due to the ground being dug up. Was there 10/1-10/8 Lucky for me I was tall enough to take a photo over the gate.

  • Liane Vaz

Worth a visit if you've never seen it! The walk through millenium park is quite nice too. From a distance it looks very crowded but there is always room to snap a good photo both outside and inside in the reflection of the cloud bean. not to mention, just marvel at the lack of seams on this thing!!!

  • Caterina Bassano

Best icon of Chicago, the bean is really impressive and beautiful especially on a clear day with blue skies to appreciate the reflections. Make sure to walk under it, it's fun to try and find your reflection from there! Gets super busy so it's a good idea to visit at quiet hours to avoid the crowds.

  • Josh Bittinger

It was fairly busy while we were there, but I get the sense that it's nearly always going to be busy. We were able to walk around the statue a bit and get a couple of good pictures.

Everyone calls it the Bean because of the shape but Cloud Gate is British artist Anish Kapoor's first public outdoor work installed in the United States. It is amazing to see.

Seeing the bean was one of my wife’s desired tourist attractions in Chicago while we visited with family, but it was a bit overcrowded. Make sure to either get there early or during the weekday etc. It’s located in a nice park area though, take time to walk around and enjoy the scenery.

  • Arthur Mccray

We went to this place during the city pride day which made it busier than normal but it was still a great experience. Lots of things to take pictures of for later memories

Without a doubt the most iconic place in Chicago. I would recommend visiting it early in the morning, thats the only way to avoid crows otherwise this place is always filled with tourists in all seasons. Each season has a different charm to this place so all seasons are good to visit.

Definitely a part of Chicago now! Go underneath and photograph upwards. Try to find the spot that rewards you with the greatest number of reflections of yourself.

Can’t go to Chicago and not meet the bean. It was a lot dirtier and not as shiny as I expected lol. Maybe I just went on a bad day. But you get what you expect, pretty cool art! It seems to be always very busy so I recommend going super early.

As one of the most iconic landmarks in Chicago, Cloud Gate (also known as "The Bean") is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the city. At first I felt it was over hyped, but when I went there it looked stunning. One interesting fact

  • Tom Burton

First time to Chicago. There was a noticeable police presence down town. Meridian Park was fenced off and you had to through security to enter. It was well worth the wait. I felt safer in downtown Chicago than I do in downtown Portland Or

  • Shannan Clarke

I almost missed one of the most iconic spots in The Windy City and would’ve been so disappointed if I had! Before heading to the airport, I asked my driver to quickly swing by “The Bean!” How can something so, seemingly, simple bring so
