Well worth searching out. Having a little time to kill before our family dinner date, we googled nearby bars, and found Burrow Bar to be close by. After walking around the block a couple of times, and heading down a few incorrect lanes, we finally found the place. Note - look for a lane that leads off to the right (and looks like a dead end), and then look on the right for the single door with a large 'B' on it!. Once inside, it feels dark and cavernous, but it has quite a few bar stools and small tables for intimate drinks, and some comfy couches as well. It really is an interesting place, with a huge number of spirit bottles lining the wall behind the bar, plus tons of various other drinking condiments. One of the Japanese whiskey boxes, on the wall opposite the bar, is from a distillery that is no more, and a bottle of the stuff allegedly sells for $10,000, or $400 a shot! The gang ordered a Yuzu Grenade/Old World Flip/French 75/something custom-made, similar to a Negroni, and I had a Young Henry's Cloudy Cider - which was one of the nicest ciders I've had for a long time. Everyone else loved their drinks, and the damage came to $88. The owner of the place has lived in Japan for a number of years, and so have we as a family, so it was interesting to chat about that, while observing him at work. The music is a funky collection of rock and roll, which my adult kids enjoyed, and it gave the place an uplifting feel. If you're looking for somewhere off the beaten track, and have a bit of coin to spend, then head to this hidden gem and experience it for yourself.
This was one of my favourite bars in the city until the last time I visited. Previously the staff have always been friendly, provided excellent service and the cocktails were incredible. I was looking forward to taking some friends to the bar before dinner. We were the only ones in the bar and advised the staff member looking after us (James, I think was his name) that we were only staying for an hour. We were seated in the darkest corner where we struggled to read the menus. We asked another staff member if we could move to another table which he allowed us to do. When James had seen this it was clear he had words about this to the staff member and wasn’t happy about it. Half our group arrived a little later and had to wait 10-15 mins to order drinks and were only served when we could get James’ attention. He told us when we arrived it was table service so did not approach the bar. There was only two other people in the bar at this stage, the bar wasn’t busy at all. We spent a lot more time waiting for drinks and being frustrated rather than actual drinking. The group was more than willing to buy more drinks, however as the service was slow and inattentive, we did not get the chance. James made us feel like he was bothered by our presence. Very disappointed by this experience. It happened about six weeks ago but it still bothers me enough to write a review. Such a shame that it has tarnished all my other great times there.

Love the ambience and the vibe of this basement bar. They’d got lively music filled up the atmosphere and yet not too noisy. We were instantly welcomed with warmth when we got there and seated at a chosen table. We ordered pork and lamb skewers, which were flavorsome and juicy for my liking, though the pork skewers were a tad too salty. We had pho as main dish and it’s good too. We decided to try their cocktail after we finished our meal. We asked the server for recommendations, said we were after something sweet. We ordered their signature Taste Like Disco and it’s kinda disappointing. I was overwhelmed with the sweetness of it and asides from sweetness I couldn’t really taste anything else, not the sweet and refreshing taste I was looking for. However, it’s a good try given the staff’s recommendation.

I’m a solo traveler American male visiting Australia for the first time. Went to the bar to meet some Americans I met in Cairns and was introduced to the world of Chartreuse. Being a scotch / bourbon drinker and wine and Port, chartreuse was a novelty for me. The server at Burrow bar explained the varieties of chartreuse and on a whim I asked if they offered a flight of chartreuse to sample. They didn’t offer it but he actually talked to the bar manager and bartender and came back with a flight of 5 different varieties. Each of us had a flight. They reduced the quantity to half ounce each pour to adjust the pricing. The entire experience and service was top 5 Star Michelin type service. We will be back next year.

Worth Trying. Would Return. A pretty cool basement bar that offers some real treats for food. Unfortunately given the basement-ness, there is some residue damp smell that permeates the place, as expected for a pub. Must try - Pork Skewers. This thing is crack - smokey, fried shallot oils and charred to perfection. I wish there was bread to soak up the sauce. Skip - Pate. I'm not used to pate not coming in a mini-jar French style. Not a fan of the rice cracker implementation. Pate was not very flavourful compared to those in North America. Cocktails - Toronto. Not sure why it called this (maybe maple as the syrup), felt like a weaker old fashioned. Overall a cosy date spot with a strong looking menu for both food and drinks.

Excellent customer service from the employees. We came here and every single employee greeted us as they saw us in a very friendly manner. If you're not too familiar with cocktails, don't worry, the staff will do their best to explain the menu to you. Our server was very happy to explain each cocktail's contents and taste to all of us and we were very well looked after throughout our time there. If you're looking for new cocktails to try, definitely come here, for their creative signatures cocktails

No physical menu! Was instead greeted with a single piece of paper with a QR code. How trashy. When opening the digital menu, scrolling halfway down to find the cocktails, clicking on the cocktail, the description tells a story but doesn't state what's actually IN the cocktail. At that point we left. There's too many good bars close by to put up with this garbage ️. Try "The Swinging Cat" around the corner for great service, excellent cocktails, with real menu's that state what's in the drink
Amazing little hole in the wall bar. Elliott was so warm and welcoming, sat with us to help us pick our cocktails and was so obviously enthused and passionate about his business. Beautiful decor, killer music, and the cocktails! My partner loves Old Fashioneds, and said it was the best he’d had. I had the Pina Colada inspired cocktail, well, 2 actually- you need to try it! Thanks Elliott, looking forward to our next visit
I needed a place to get out of the city hustle and traffic. Burrow Bar was nice and dark with perfect New York cocktail bar tunes. The bar staff made me feel at home and looked after me with excellent cocktails and good chats. The restaurant upstairs caters for the bar so I got really tasty high end Vietnamese cuisine that were perfect as bar snacks. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm up from Melbourne.
Had the pandan waffle, small fried rice and grilled chicken. Everything was perfect and cooked the authentic Vietnamese/ Asian style (the sauce of the grilled chicken was on point!) my friend had the lager beer, which was amazing. The Coupe! Cocktail was a little weird, tasted like cough syrup the first time I tried it. However, the lovely waiters and prompt serving of dishes made up for it. Highly recommend!
Last month was a blast! My experience in this bar are amazing, I really had agreat time here. The bartender has some amazing skills on mixing cocktails. Would love to come here this place is giving you a positive enery just relax and enjoy the night.

Had my birthday event here recently, and I couldn’t have had a better night! Elliott and his team went above and beyond when the bar was already full. The food was phenomenal, we’re still talking about the chicken wings and the prawns! Cocktails were delicious and the vibe was perfect. Thank you Burrow Bar for a birthday to remember!

Sydney's best kept secret! For a real cocktail come down here. They have recently added some new concoctions to their menu and the bartenders are so knowledge about balancing flavours and tested the flavours out personally. I didn't feel pressured but they were very attentive and service was excellent. Great vibes and refreshing to have a good selection of complex cocktails.
Past some iron gates, there is a dark dim lit closed off alley. Look for the black door with 1960 and you go down into Burrow bar. This basement drink hangout hidden from the bustle of the city. Enjoyed a Jamaican alcoholic ginger beer & their OP dark stormy (which definitely lived up to its name). Nice vibe, good music, a drink experience worth exploring.
First time here- Super friendly staff, delicious cocktails - I had “Spring time in Paris” with spring rolls ( bit of a spring theme here on a cold and wet Tuesday night. I was so pleasantly surprised, as I went in with not many expectations. Exceptionally better experience than many other popular bars in the city. Will be back for more for sure!!!!
Cute place i haven’t been to before, was one of the best first bar experiences i’d had in a while. very nice waiter and very yummy food (wings are a must have!) and drinks, highly recommend to anyone!! loved everything!!

Great new location for Burrow Bar (not new, just new to me as I haven't been there in a while). They have really improved their food/dessert menu, we tried the pandan mochi waffle which was delightful! Cocktails always good, they always hire passionate bartenders who enter in competitions, make sure to ask them what their specialty drink is!
I love the size of the Burrow Bar. Intimate yet comfortable. This bar has SOUL. Staff are warm and give very good hugs! Furthermore they mix a wide range of well priced, meticulous cocktails (thanks Jackson) and drinks. I didn't eat tonight but from all reports I missed out. My fellow burrowers rave about the menu. I'll be back.xx
10 stars, by far the best bartenders in Sydney, if you are lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, sit back and watch the magic. Highly recommend!....minor disclaimer...their cocktail menu, I believe, is set up deliberately so you dont have a clue whats in the drink but everything works. They know what their doing!
We came close to 9 pm on Saturday, and it was pretty busy. But we managed to get a table without booking. The drinks menu comes with a nice history/intro for each cocktail but doesn’t specify the ingredients. I guess that is their style. I don’t see a big issue with that. And yummy food for the upstairs restaurant
Hidden underground spot in one of the Sydney streets. Cozy place, back in time vibes with a chill Atmosphere. The cocktails we ordered were quite average for our opinion. Would love to try some staff recommendations next time round. Surely worth the Visit.

This is a very cute hidden bar. The bar is quite small so make sure to make a booking. The staff are very friendly and the cocktails are amazing. The food was epic. I wish I had better lighting to be able to photograph the delicious apple & mango salad and the crispiest spring rolls …
Friday evening drinks. Had no idea this place was hidden down a little lane off George St. Great vibe from the moment you walk in, really interesting and delicious cocktails and the barstaff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for a chill night with great drinks
Had NY style Sazerac, quality mix. Really left a lingering flavour that almost demanded one more. They also have Vietnamese cuisine available. Did not have this but it did look good what came out.

An outstanding mixologist delivers a cocktail that delights your taste buds and liberates your fun side. From the delightfully obtuse menu descriptions to the warm and genuine service Burrow Bar is an absolute gem of a place which I can't rate highly enough. Total legend status!
Awesome atmosphere and super friendly staff that really know their stuff! Huge range of drinks (over 650 bottles) and awesome cocktails, as well as nibblies (and also a couple of hefty meals). Very intimate venue to chill out over a couple of drinks and catch up with mates.
Cozy, quiet, simple and well stocked bar hidden away out of sight in the corner of a back alleyway just a few meters across the road from Wynyard station. Friendly cheerful staff and an owner with a passion for various good rare whiskeys. A true hidden gem in Sydney!
Went here last for a quick drink before. It's refreshing to go to a place and not be forced to use the QR codes. We had 1 drink each which we both enjoyed before heading off to dinner. Would recommend going back.

This is such a nice speakeasy. We had a couple of cocktails which were great and where flabbergasted by the bartender's skills most of the night. Cool setting with nice music and a huge selection of drinks. We're definitely going back again soon!

I went to Burrow Bar with some friends on a Sat night and was so impressed! The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, and even offered to whip up some cocktails that weren’t on the menu! The house cocktails were amazing as well. The
Great little bar tucked away behind George st. Very good cocktails and whiskey selection. Food selection looks great (although didn’t try anything as had dinner plans). Lots of others in the bar getting what looked like delicious dishes..
Had a really great experience here! I'm vegan and allergic to nuts and they were extra accommodating. The waiter could point out any allergens in the menu immediately and it was really reassuring. I ended up getting the spring rolls and
Couldn’t recommend this place more. The bartender, who I think was named Anthony, was so helpful and knowledgeable on all of the bottles he had. We wanted an old fashioned and sazerac and he walked us through different options of base
2 stars for the food and cocktails, the ambience was extraordinary though. Had a misplaced order and the beef dish was chewy. Won't be coming back.

Great little find! We were waiting at bistro papillon and realized there was a black door where people were entering and exiting. We then realize it was a bar downstairs ! Food was served too. We enjoyed it ! Lovely little surprise
Hidden little gem near the Hunter arcade (entry is off George Street). Amazing cocktails, super friendly and knowledge staff and great service. Definitely a must try for anyone around the area looking for a new bar to visit.
Fantastic bar run by friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Has one of the best stocks of drinks in the city and the staff will make anything you can think of. Tricky to find but well worth going, you'll have a great time!
Great vibe, one-of-a-kind cocktail menu that could easily impress any cocktail geek. Best part is, you get to enjoy authentic Vietnamese food right at the bar - an experience I've never thought of before
Best little place so far, hidden in the CBD. Bite after bite surprising flavouring Spring Rolls, House Pickles, Grilled squid, Short Rib, Waffles, and than we didn’t even mention the drinks, just go and give it a try.
Great hidden bar - stylish, cosy, extremely comfortable and excellent selection of top shelf spirits. Highly recommended.

No idea how this bar has 4+ stars. The service was awful, drinks below average, and did I mention the service was awful? The outsourced food was the only tolerable part of an otherwise terrible experience.
We were so impressed by Burrow Bar. Staff were charismatic and friendly especially the two Jacksons and Elliott. Cocktails & food were sensational and so was the atmosphere. We will be back!
Dropped in for a drink Sunday night (Easter) and was greeted by some top notch hospitality. We sat at the bar for two drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere! Absolutely recommend a visit.
Really nice and intimidate bar, loved the rustic basement vibes. Had the Autumnal permanence cocktail and it was so delicious with the pumpkin spice and chai flavours!
It's fairly pricey, and there's certainly a few things I think they could improve on, but it's such a comfortable & pleasant bar, unlike most other bars in Sydney.
Hidden bar in a basement under Cash only and the cocktails there are superb. Recommend the Swamp Water

What is sexier than a hidden speak-easy and sassy personable table staff? Not much. I felt special at the Burrow Bar, more special than Stitch Bar.
The bar snacks were absolutely outstanding. Would be keen to come back and try the entire menu. Cocktails were decent and bartender attentive.
A hidden gem at CBD!! My expectation was not high due to the bad experience before, but the friendly bartender nailed our drinks!! Thank you!

A great little find. Had post work beers here and would recommend. It was quiet but maybe it's because it's new. Eclectic choice of beers.
Very intimate little joint. Difficult to find even when you're looking for it. The bartender seems like a good fella. Worth a visit.

Friendly staff, fantastic drinks. One of those bars you sort of need to seek out, small and relaxed.
