The Diamond Experience Tour was exceptional. Imraan Abed, our appointed guide, graciously welcomed us to the Shimansky Museum. Imraan’s knowledge of the history, formation, mining, cutting, and polishing of diamonds is extensive and truly a delight for us. He was well-versed, elegant in his presentation, and the perfect representative for a well-prized industry. It was a well-staged 3-part tour, starting at the Secret Room with a chronological historical overview of the diamond industry in SA, then taken behind to witness Shimanksy’s Diamond workshop and diamond polishing where master craftsmen fully transform these rough stones into the brilliant and magnificent pieces of jewelry, and finally taking us to the showroom where these gems are proudly showcased. Viewing is paired with our choice of drink from their selection of wines and liqueurs. This was an experience beyond our expectations. We left with knowledge and a much better appreciation of the art behind one of the most highly sought and esteemed gems.

My visit to the museum was an amazing experience with tone of great information that make you understand why this industry is at that price level, the show room is really nice and behind the scene where all professionals preform their task with amazing work shop to cut and clear the best diamonds was at high level, and more importantly the staff were wonderful, I had the pleasure to meet with Carmen who was by no mean above and beyond, very nice and knowledgeable person, she did her presentation very professionally, she is smart with sharp eye contact at all time and a person you could easily have a good conversation with, I really like the way she listen when talking back to her I truly believe she is a great asset to Shimansky, promotion for Carmen will bring nothing but success to the company so consideration must be on the table because she is the real diamond in that store, again I really enjoyed the tour and I highly recommend this place to be on a bucket list when visiting Cape Town.

We found this a really interesting experience. Gabi gave us a very professional but easy going and informative chat taking us through the natural and commercial history of diamonds, and the many exhibits. Some things we knew, but much we did not know or our understanding was corrected by Gabi, who patiently answered all of our questions. Seeing the actual work areas for the craftsmen making Shemanky’s jewelry was interesting too, although being a Sunday they were not working. The display area for all of their jewelry was amazing as well, but there was no expectation or pressure to buy. Definitely would recommend this as one thing to do near the V&A Wharf in Cape Town.

I had the pleasure of being guided by the lovely Zukiswa. The tour was enlightening. I learned about the fascinating history of diamond mining in South Africa and how it fits into a global context. As well as the intricate process that goes into developing a diamond from rough to wearable. Perhaps the most enjoyable thing about the tour wasn’t the impressive depth of knowledge shared but Zukiswa’s personal touch. She was calm, made me feel comfortable. This was very fun. I highly recommend it. I recommend going during the week if you want to see the craftsmen working.

We had an amazing time at the Cape Town diamond museum! Our guide Wesley was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He taught us about the history of diamonds and the importance of the four C’s when picking out a diamond. It is also very Covid friendly as the tour is private (just your group and a guide). This is an excellent place to go with your partner to learn about diamonds and pick out an engagement ring. However, that’s not the only jewelry they have to offer! I got a beautiful 14k gold table mountain ring with a small diamond. I highly recommend this experience if you are in Cape Town!

It is a beautiful and well structured museum. Small and elegant while providing very good information about the history of diamonds in general but further about the ones from South Africa. It only takes 30-40’ tour and it’s a great place to visit. Plus you can see a huge collection of diamonds (replicas of course) and if you can afford it buy one. The concierge at our hotel gave us a special invitation card to bring along to the museum. When we arrived, we were warmly received and taken on a tour of the history of diamonds in South Africa. We also caught a glimpse of the workshop (the artisans finish work at 4pm so come earlier if you want to see them at their craft). The jewelery collection available for sale was nice. Constantina, my tour guide was absolutely amazing. She answered all of my questions, told me about the diamond history in this region and about the company as well. In Cape Town for the week and given the positive reviews took the opportunity to visit the Shimansky Diamond Museum. A fascinating insight into the geology, history of Kimberley mining and the painstaking process to transform the uncut diamonds into such brilliant, scintillating gemstones. If you enjoy gemstones, go take a look. It’s only 100 Rand and you will get a personal tour. We had Nadya walk and talk is through. She is incredibly knowledgeable and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you, Nadya!
